He not only got the line cleaned out but spent extra time going over the issue that was causing our line's blockage (collapsing orangeburg pipe) and walked us through options to remedy the situation in the future. Our hot water heater went out so we contacted them. They sold us a overpriced one, and a year later the wiring broke. I called a few times, kept getting their answering service. So we called a different local business and he said the one we have is old, and they don't make them anymore. I called and talked to a technician and he made a snarky comment asking if I have the receipt, I said yes but not on hand. He went on to say their office is closed and can't get to us. these guys have been out yearly to maintain our rental home, sump clean out and repairs. once we had the home inspected it was found out that they don't put back the items to "code" never bolted down, never sealed the lid. I guess it made the next call easier. now that we had to repair for home selling we sent over the documents from the inspector that had exactly what was needed, even called and confirmed with the manager the list that was needed to be done. they still drove out without supplies, looked at the issues and left to get supplies hours away. Had a total re-pipe done on my 1950's house last month, and these guys were recommended by a neighbor. Pedro and his assistant came out and replaced all the decrepit galvanized steel pipes with PVC and PEX in about 4 days, for a reasonable price. Even better, they were very polite, prompt, and communicative every step of the way. Can't complain. They even went above and beyond when I had a couple of special requests. Sorry that others may have had a bad experience with BFP, but I think they're great! read more

Unfortunately we never got past the phone call. The woman I spoke to for a quote was extremely rude. I called for a quote on an inspection and I didn't understand what she said at first. So in asking for clarification she became very rude, just an aggressive and rude tone and enunciating. Had I been asking for a third or fourth or fifth time maybe I could understand some frustration on her part. But not understanding her one vague answer or lack there of, really didn't seem appropriate for her attitude. You would think if someone is trying to get an inspection on a home they are trying to buy that they would be eager for that business and a repeat customer for years and years. Maybe she was just having a bad day. But it left a bad taste in my mouth and I've found elsewhere that was able to give me a generalized quote. (Which is all I wanted... just a ballpark, however broad) I had thought they'd be a good option with all the good reviews but in going to write mine I realize they have quite a few negative 1 star reviews in the "not recommended" section. These plumbers are good, no complaints whatsoever with their work, it is excellent, however, the pricing is ridiculous! It cost my sister almost $1000.00 to have an old dishwasher replaced and a kitchen faucet and that was the labor charge, she already had bought the dishwasher and faucet. We had clogged sewer pipes. Benjamin Franklin came out didn't charge us because they didn't fix anything. They came out a second time and install the clean out that didn't fix anything and charge us $1200. They came out a third time and fixed it again and charge us another $1200. For a plumber who has a two-year guaranteeThey sure don't honor it. Now the technician called me and hollered at me for giving him a poor review. That makes a lot of sense. Called Ben Franklin Plumbing to install new kitchen sink and faucet. The plumber gave me a price quote of over a thousand dollars, and I must say, I was taken aback at that amount. I decided to go ahead with the job. The guy went out to his truck for a while, came back into the house and told me that because of my reaction to the price, he wasn't going to do the job. Now I consider myself civil, and I did make a quiet gasp, but I told him I was okay with the amount. No, he told me, I should think it over for a couple of days, blah, blah, blah. Are you kidding me!! I found myself begging him to do the installation, but came to my senses and threw his ass out. If this is their working model it's a wonder they are in business. Our kitchen sink suddenly became clogged and extremely slow-draining. We live in an area that some places don't even service, or they charge extra to get here. We were able to book an appointment for that Friday on Tuesday. In the mean time, we were trying to find anyone else that could possibly come sooner. Another big name plumber booked us for Wednesday between 9-12pm with a huge additional fee to come to our area. After they didn't show up, we called and they told us they could no longer come. I had an "emergency" with a house full of relatives for a few days--two of three toilets were plugged up! This was during the day time but on a Saturday. Their web site advertised 24/7 Emergency Service, so I called. The lady answering the phone (business like but not friendly) said a tech was on a service call and would call me as soon as he was free. He called within a half hour, but said he could get to me on Monday. 24/7 Emergency Service?!! Right! I called Roto-Rooter. Their tech called back in just a few minutes, arrived at my house within 10 minutes, and solved the issue within a half hour (snaking an outside clean-out). There are definitely not enough stars to be given. We had quite a serious plumbing problem. After just moving from Marin County to Kelseyville two months ago, we found what we think is our retirement home. That being said, we've never owned a home with a septic system. I can't say enough good things about this company. Ken is always so personable and his work ethic is comparable to none. I have had him at my apartment for a clogged sink 4 times now (not his fault btw). He is extremely accommodating to my schedule and makes himself available as soon as he possibly can. It is never good business to talk down to a potential customer my mistake was in thinking that he would give me good customer service and help me decide if this was something that I should consider doing. He sent Kelly who took a look at my tankless water heater and wouldn't touch the small leak on an elbow pipe underneath the heater. It had nothing to do with the water heater! The response for an appliance replacement estimate was quick and professional. Estimator Ken was upfront that BFP only installs a very highly-rated on-demand water heater, and costs reflect that. However, my small rural home uses propane, and the supply is 70 feet of half-inch galvanized pipe. I was replacing an elderly 120,000 btu unit with the same small capacity. I was advised that the line would have to be replaced with a 3/4-inch, for an additional cost $2560. That was on top of $5500 for a 150k to 180k btu unit (nothing smaller from their supplier), including flush kit and descaler. But propane has a unit energy 2.5 times that of in-town natural gas. So I ran the pressure-loss calcs, then confirmed them with well-regarded Rennai's tech staff: both their budget and high-end 120k btu units would operate just fine on my supply line. The high-end unit with flush kit was under $2900, installed. Caveat emptor. read more

Called BFP because I had toilet that would not drain. All other sinks and toilets were draining fine. I stated I wanted BFP to pull the toilet and snake the line. I was told the charge would be 350.00. I sent BFP away. I pulled the toilet myself and found a large bolt in the line the was catching the toilet paper preventing the line to drain. I had called Rotor Router and they arrived after I had pulled the toilet and removed the bolt with a coat hanger. We laughed at the situation and he provided me new bolts to tighten the toilet and left my residence without charging me a dime.....Thats customer service......I will never use BFP from Ukiah Ca......The plumber was rude and disrespectful when I refused to authorize 350.00. read more

Ben Franklin Plumbing advertises 24 hour emergency service in Lakeport, CA. Called at 3:45 AM asking the answering service for a technician call back with a quote to unclog a toilet ASAP. Thirty minutes later I called again because I hadn't received a call back. I was told that "the technician might be sleeping and didn't hear the phone". It's now 8:00 am and still no call back. A business that isn't open 24 hours a day should not advertise that they are open 24 hours a day as it's dishonest advertising. read more

Had a plugged line from toilet to main line, about 3 feet. Had my toiled pulled for him told what I needed took about 10 minutes, 360 bucks. I'd try anybody else first unless money doesn't matter. Nothing I've said hear is untrue, yet het wrote a rebuttal explaining what a professional he is. Yes I used his service, 70 dollars just to show up if I didn't. Last night my water heater died. Not an insurmountable occurrence. So first thing this morning I placed a call to Ben Franklin Plumbing as I have used them before. Well after waiting all morning and into the afternoon, the plumber arrives. I was very glad to see him as we had to turn our water off at the street. I was sure it would not be much longer until all systems were restored. The young man took a look at the water heater and it was decided it would have to be replaced. So the young man went back to his truck to quote a price. After he found the correct replacement water heater, he turned the book around so I could see the price. After blinking several times,the figure finally registered in my brain. $1,458. Yes, that is correct. Now I know business is business. I get that. But seriously. I politely thanked the young man and explained I did not have that kind of money. I said I would attempt to get one on my own. His response, "Good luck with that". It was at this time I decided to call Mendo Mill. I was quoted a price of $329.99 and it was in stock. So in the end Ben Franklin thinks charging $1100 in labor is acceptable business practice. Nice people but when they came out and looked at the problem, the service person implied it would take some time to fix and could cost me up to $518, but might only be $390. The way he e planned it I was under the impression that it would take a couple of hours at least. I agreed to have the work done. Imagine my surprise when less then 20 minutes later he was done. And I was still charged $390! That's more than a surgeon makes! Now less than 3 weeks later, I have another leak in the same area. NOT calling them again!
