Franklin, PA is a beautiful town, and Benjamin's Roadhouse is in a great location with a large outside area and a view of the courthouse and parks. It's a busy corner, so there's some traffic noise with all of the trucks passing by. It was an easy lunch choice as the menu looked great for two hungry travelers on a sunny fall day with colorful trees all around. We were seated promptly and ordered a burger and a chicken sandwich special, and then we waited. And waited, and waited. It was 25-30 minutes later, still no food and no attention from our waitress. I finally went inside to find her, and she said it would be another five minutes or so as the the first order came out burnt. When lunch finally arrived, the burger was served on a slightly too small plate which made it hard to assemble without the fries spilling onto the table. The burger was tasty and cooked well, with a flavorful but runny barbecue sauce that puddled onto my plate. The sweet potato fries were slightly undercooked - they were warm, but soft and not crispy on the edges, They were served with a sweet caramel dipping sauce that was like a dessert, a nice treat. read more

Tried this place again a few months ago. We were seated then left after waiting 20 minutes for someone to come to our table.

French onion soup is the best around. The staff is all friendly and helpful. Service is prompt and we never feel like we are waiting on food or drink refills. Everything we have tried has been very good with perfect portions. And, we can hear each other without yelling across the tables. read more

The food was great, from the awesome bread and butter to the Reuben that I had and the steak and baked potato and salad that my husband had. I had a pretty good time at this restaurant during the light up night. I look forward to coming back to see how they are with an expanded menu and not just a holiday light up night special menu. I think that it was pretty busy and I take that into account so while it wasn't five stars it was pretty close. We got seated right away and we got to sit in a booth which was perfect because we were able to see the fireworks from where we were sitting. That was the coolest part of the night. We were getting cold and decided to go and eat and we were able to see the rest of the festivities right from the restaurant. I ordered the stuffed pork chops and mashed potatoes and my partner ordered the lasagna. We decided to get my daughter who is two the kids meal with spaghetti and meatballs. The kids meal was definitely very large. She was able to eat some pasta and meatballs but we had leftovers to take home. She seemed to enjoy it and I didn't really have any complaints with it it was pretty normal. But I don't think the meatballs were homemade. The lasagna my partner loved. He thought it was really good and the portion size was really nice. He wasn't able to finish all of it and took part of it home for lunch the next day. I got the stuffed pork chop. I thought that the pork chop was pretty good it was a little tough in some parts but most of it was tender. The stuffing inside was flavorful. The side of mashed potatoes had gravy on it. The gravy was pretty heavy and salty. But the mashed potatoes were great. I don't know if I would get the mashed potatoes again or I would ask to maybe have a little less gravy put on it. But now I know. I think that the only reason that I put it down to three stars was that I also got a dessert that I was really looking forward to because I love creme brulee and when it came to the table it was 100% burnt / charred on the top. There was no crunchy golden layer it was black. I pulled most of the char off and still ate what was underneath. But I was really disappointed. But I guess I could have said something but they were busy and I could still just eat the bottom and that was fine. I think coming during a non-rushed holiday event probably would have been better for my first time. But I think the food and the service would make us go back if we are in town. Over the Christmas Holiday my daughter and I ended up having an extended stay at my mother's due to the Airline issues. Having been here before she took us out for a nice dinner here, my daughter even put on her dress for the occasion. We parked near the park and proceeded to cross the street and made our way to Benjamin's Roadhouse. As we walked up we saw how beautifully decorated the outside was, Christmas Lights and other decorations adorned the one side of the building and the windows had scenes painted on them from different Christmas movies such as Home Alone, Jingle All The Way and A Nightmare Before Christmas! This was a wonderful and artistic touch and I hope you'll do this again next year! The three of us entered to find a spacious dining room which gave off a warm and inviting feel. We were greeted and seated immediately and our server came a few moments later to greet us, bring our menus and take our drink orders which came shortly after. As it was around 5:30 when we got there and they close at 7 they began to fill up a bit and get busy as expected with any restaurant so the service did slow down a bit but we were understanding of this as I work in a Full Service Restaurant myself. The menu had a lot of options to choose from so it did take me a bit of time before I could make a choice though I did start with a bowl of their tomato soup, this soup was the creamiest tomato soup I've ever had and served with those awesome oyster crackers that are a perfect pairing with any soup! For my entree I settled on the Pot Roast with a side of a Loaded Baked Potato and White Rice. My meal was served but the veggies that were supposed to come with the Pot Roast were absent and instead they put the Pot Roast over that rice which was supposed to be on the side and my Loaded Baked Potato was also Absent. I got my server's attention and told her that the veggies were missing, the rice was supposed to be served on the side and my loaded baked potato was missing. She went back to the kitchen and brought me back a plate of mashed potatoes which is not what I originally ordered but at that point I was too hungry and just wanted to eat my dinner. I took a bite of my Pot Roast expecting flavor to dance about in my mouth but was met with disappointment, both the pot roast AND the gravy were absolutely bland and needed salt in a bad way however the Pot Roast was tender. For dessert I selected The Molten Lava Cake with a scoop of that Vanilla Ice cream goodness, the cake was nice and warm and oozing with that good chocolatey yumminess! I know it was only an hour and a half until closing but you do need to work with your servers on Order Accuracy and you do need to improve the flavor of your pot roast and gravy. All in all it was an okay experience and I'd be willing to come in again on my next visit to the area to try some of the other things on the menu. read more

Benjamin's Roadhouse is adequate. Let's hit on the positives. It is a roomy establishment with great table density. Our waitress was very nice. While she was not incredibly knowledgeable about the menu she made a point of double checking ingredients and asking the right questions. I will always support a server who will simply say they don't know something and goes to find out. She would easily get five stars for her service. Everything else is just okay. I ordered half a turkey sandwich which was advertised to be on Texas toast. I was expecting Texas toast - the thick sliced bread that is crunchy and delicious not the Franz answer to Texas toast slathered in butter. It had so much melted butter on it that the sandwich glistened. I think my arteries hardened just looking at it. And while I enjoy cheese I prefer a balance between the cheese and meat so they compliment each other but this was more like a cheese sandwich with turkey as a garnish. I ordered a lemon drop to drink. It is a fairly straight forward cocktail. When our efficient waitress came back with my lemon drop I instantly knew that it wasn't a lemon drop. The glass gave it away since most lemon drops are served in a cocktail glass or a rocks glass if cocktail glasses aren't available. This was in a soda glass and tasted like bad lemonade. It had ice in it. I didn't have the heart to send it back. In the end I was grateful to have a place to meet up with a few friends but I probably won't be coming back. read more

I had a cheeseburger. It was very good. Iced Tea was excellent. I will visit here again. This is a great place to stop to eat on the days they are not busy. If you visit on Sunday afternoon, you sometimes have to wait to get seated. read more

Absolutely one of the worst meals we've ever had. Salad had rotten lettuce in it. Fried shrimp were actually burnt. And I was given Chili Sauce and not Cocktail to dip them in. Applesauce however was not screwed up! Fettuccini came out cold after waiting for over an hour for two meals. It had no taste whatsoever. Bread was fair. Benjamin's, do yourself a favor and whoever was cooking tonight, get them some help............. Waitress did her best to keep things moving but the only offer we had to offset our horrible meal was a refill or a coffee for the ride home. My husband made reservations at 1:00 on Mother's Day for Inside NOT on the patio. We were seated out on the patio. It is loud out there making it difficult for my 85 year old dad to hear. Staff was really bad. Had to ask for silverware and our drink menu. When we wanted more drinks we had to ask the kid wrapping the silverware behind us cuz our waitress was on her phone in the other room. The salads were freezing ice cold, I'm assuming they were pre-made and shoved into the fridge into it ordered. They were so cold it was hard to eat and the croutons were like rocks. The prime rib was awful. 75% fat and gristle. It came out about an inch thick and looked more like a strip steak than a prime rib. No seasoning or crust on it. Edible when you drowned it in the au jus. It was very dead considering how many people were downtown. Should have been a clue I suppose. We had a great experience here! Four of us and every dinner and appetizer was phenomenal. I had the salmon sandwich and it was absolutely delicious. Friends had the fish dinners and the pecan chicken salad and everyone was very pleased. The pierogi appetizer was to die for. To top it off the waitress was wonderful. Food is good but I was highly upset when I arrived finding that my reservations to the patio would not be honored because they overbooked. No one bothered to call and let me know this, no one apologized for their error. We have made this our annual tradition to enjoy the tree and all the decorations on the patio. This was not able to be done with the seating we were given inside the restaurant and made for a less than pleasant experience. The waitress explained unapologetically that reservations are first come first serve to which we understand but it would have been great if the girl taking my reservation over two weeks ago would have said that they wouldn't be able to accommodate us we would have reserved another date. We will absolutely be changing our venue for this tradition going forward. Terrible customer service, no excuse. read more

Staff was great and so was service but honestly first time I have ordered something that I was so disappointed in probably the last time I go here ordered chicken parm the noodles were over cooked and mushy and had so much water on them that the breaded chicken was beyond soggy tried to be polite and just eat it anyways because that's how I was raised but I couldn't get even A 1/3 of the way through it before I just entirely pushed it away between it being soggy dry and bland but at least I can say service was great our waitress made sure we had drinks and hardly had to wait on anything read more

The location is the best part about this place, in my opinion. We came on a beautiful, breezy summer day and sat outside, enjoying the view of the park. The food was decent, although the prices were a little high for small portions. The sauce on the maple bourbon salmon was delicious, but the New England Clam Chowder needed seasoning.
