We called ahead on a Monday night for a party of 7. We were told there was no need for a reservation because they had plenty of room. We arrived 15 minutes later and the 3 hosts that greeted us said they didn't have a table and had to push some tables together but there would be a wait. They made no effort to find us a table. I looked in the back of the restaurant and saw a booth big enough for 7 and asked that they seat us there which they did. The server was horrible who seemed angry at us for making her wait on us. This is the 2nd time I have patronized this restaurant. When we last visited the restaurant it wasn't too busy since it was in the middle of the afternoon. We chose to sit at the bar. There were already folks sitting at the bar. It was 10 minutes before we saw a bartender. We had to ask if there was a bartender working? We ordered one of the special drinks that was on the bar menu. Neither one of us finished the drink since it was not balanced and tasted pretty bad. I was just glad to get food in our system. I love all the restaurants in The Springfield Group. First time at Rachel's in a while. I sat at the bar. Had 2 IPA's on tap. Their house made chips with spicy dip as an appetizer is good bar grub. Their specials change daily. Sandwich Special was a Philly burger with onions & mushrooms & provolone. They also had paella today as an entree! Food was good & not too pricey. Ladies room is spacious with good sized stalls with coat/purse hook & decent lighting (this is important to us, haha). Private parking lot. First time going here, was super excited. 45 minute wait which was expected since they don't take reservations. Atmosphere is beautiful inside, the staff is so friendly and polite too. Only downfall I had was my dinner meal portions. Tiniest piece of chicken and the mashed potatoes were slop like a pile of melted cheese. Tasted good, but for the price I was disappointed. As for the desserts though, peanut butter pie and ho ho cake we're both incredible! Huge portion of each, can easily tell was all homemade and quite delicious! I was in Mercer for work and kept expanding my search out to find some place to eat. At 12:30, I could sit at the first come first serve seating in the bar area or wait 15 minutes it was packed. Service was a bit slow and they were out of the first two beers I ordered, but such is the luck of the draw. I ordered a steak salad, medium rare with the bleu cheese vinaigrette. When I have enjoyed halibut at home or in a restaurant, it has been a thick slice of richly flavored white fish. Forceful wait staff Mary reported the fish was indeed halibut. When pressed, Mary responded the fish was "delivered" as halibut. I did notice most of the patrons at Rachels were receiving burgers n fries. First trying based on reviews. The placed was pretty packed but they had a closed in section that was open for maybe carry out or special occasions. The staff was friendly and my waitress was really nice. I ordered wings and fries. The wings were good and seasoned well but a few had a slight touch of softness inside 1 or 2. That wasn't a deal breaker because most would consider them done. I like mine fried extra crispy. The fries were not crispy but they were good. We never knew this one existed. We drove by early in the afternoon and came back for dinner. Nice place. Nice menu. Service was great. Food was very good. My wife had the salmon dinner and she loved it. I had the fish sandwich, large portion, fresh and delicate. Good tartar sauce. My husband and I were staying at a quaint air B&B nearby and stopped here for dinner last night. Since we weren't in any hurry, we decided to wait even though we were told the wait would be an hour. Let me tell you, it was worth the wait! We both had sirloin steak, my husband got the larger one and fries, and I got the Anniversary Special with a smaller steak, baked potato, French onion soup and peanut butter pie. The French onion soup was seasoned perfectly and beefy. The steaks were perfectly cooked, the fries were tasty and the baked potato delicious. The pie was the perfect end to the meal. I'm sorry to say I can't recommend Rachel's Roadhouse. The best thing about this place is the employees who were hardworking and friendly. The decor is laughable, trying to be something it isn't with bad replicas of period pieces and old timey photos. My husband liked it but he never had particularly good taste in decor or women. The worst part by far is the food. The appetizer we were excited to try, general Tso's cauliflower is cooked in the same fryer as shellfish which precluded us from getting it, grateful that the server volunteered this info when we told her of shellfish allergy. The spinach dip and chips was very moderately ok. My husband liked his fish cakes, but again, we question his taste. Came with 2 sides of which there is a very long list, fries were out of question as they are fried alongside shellfish. I thought his broccoli and mashed potatoes were very bland. My main came with one side; I selected the side salad which honestly tasted like poison. My sweet basil salmon was soaked in sauce and overcooked. In part to kill time and also cause I'm crazy about dessert, against our better judgement, we ordered chocolate peanut butter pie which was more like a bunch of chocolate and peanut butter cream... no real evidence of pie. read more

We had an early lunch today with a few friends. We arrived early, so there were plenty of tables, but by the time we left there were a few people waiting in the lobby. They don't take reservations so you will never see me there at prime time. The menu is kind of deluxe bar food, American, and well executed. Four of us had sandwiches and one had a brain cramp and got tacos. Everyone was happy with the food. They offer half sandwiches, a nice feature for us seniors or foreigners who don't gorge like us. The dining room is decorated in a kind of bar/old West style, and pretty clean and well maintained. Service was prompt, friendly, and professional, but the server was hyper stressed and it made it feel like we should be in a hurry. We had a glass of Chardonnay, fairly priced and the right quality for the setting. It was an enjoyable lunch and we will return, but in my opinion it's not a spot for dinner, lacking a wine list, reservations, and a diverse menu. Perfect Saturday night dinner ! Hubby and I had the soft pretzels with cheese sauce and hot fudge to start. The dip options are fun. Pretzels were hot, soft, and salty. I also had a cup of the soup of the day, which was a spicy clam and shrimp soup. Delicious and spicy with the perfect creaminess. After a stop at Grove City Outlets, the man I am seeing and I stopped here for a Valentine's Day dinner. He wanted to go to the sister restaurant, Iron Bridge Inn, but it was a 40 minute wait. Rachel's was a 10 minute wait. We arrived, and were seated quickly. Cash was our waiter, and he went above and beyond. The service was great. I went with the grouper, which was on special. My date went with the filet medallions and shrimp with fire sauce. My grouper was a little dry, but still good. It was encrusted with coconut. It came with a side, I chose a baked potato, which was done well. It was also supposed to come with garlic roasted cauliflower, which I was looking forward to. When Cash brought our food over, the cauliflower was absent. My date asked Cash about this and Cash went to find out what happened. They had run out of cauliflower and he brought over a side of broccoli. He also immediately said that he would give us a free piece of dessert for my trouble. He went above and beyond. I don't know if it was because it was Valentine's Day, and he wanted to make sure couples had a good experience, or if this is a normal occurrence. Nonetheless, it was extremely nice and unexpected. The broccoli would have been sufficient. My date enjoyed his filet and shrimp, and I had a taste and liked it as well. I asked to hear what the desserts were and my date immediately said that there was no question and we were getting the peanut butter pie. It is made in house and he has had it before. We took it home, because we were too full to eat it at the retaurant. The peanut butter pie was the best decision and I wish my date would have gotten a piece for himself because we shared the pie, which was substantial. It had an oat or granola crust and the whipped peanut butter topping was like heaven. I'm not a big peanut butter person, but wow, this pie made my list of food items I dream about. With each bite he took, I noted the amount. It was that good. I wanted equal parts, or a little more of this pie. I even told him that he better leave me a substantial piece, and that was the first time I had ever voiced that I wanted more of this pie. To him, that meant I really enjoyed it and I did. I'm usually not one to watch everyone's moves, but with this pie, I needed to. It is that good. Get two slices. You'll need it if you don't want to fight over the last bite. read more

I am sad to give this review because I am a long time customer of Rachel's but I had the most disappointing Reuben in my lifetime. A round ball of grilled corned beef cheese and a hint of sauerkraut served on 2 avg pieces of rye toast. Not grilled, dry and served alone in a basket. Coleslaw was on the side and that was fine but no pickle and a unappetizing sandwich. Honestly fell more like a fast food joint. I reported to management because not their standard. I hope it gets fixed because I really do like the Springfield group. 5 of us their to celebrate upcoming wedding. Apps were pretty good and service was excellent. We had tried this place before and i figured a 2nd trip deserved a review. One of the few places open late (9 pm) in a sleepy town, it was surprisingly packed for a Monday night. They had all these Covid precautions listed up from of the hostess table, but alas, none of which were followed. We were the only masked people indoors. Servers, hostess, bartenders all unmasked. No social distancing or limited capacity. Quite shocking as where we come from in where all food service is required masking regardless of vaccination status. Anyway, the food is plentiful and large in quantity. It is more than decent for a roadhouse bar and resto. Husband had their sirloin steak which was nicely seasoned and medium rare as he asked. I had a fish sandwich which was well done and tasty. I really wish they were better with the pandemic precautions, because the place was full on a weekday night. And if we were driving through the area we'd consider going again, but NOT if the pandemic isn't taken seriously by people who handle food. Food is 4/5. Ambiance and service 4/5.
