Such a great working farm. I know because I grew up on a farm. I wanted the same experience for my children. Been taking the kids to programs and camp for past 13 years. Make no mistake, it is not a zoo, petting zoo even though they offer birthday parties, this is a place for people to access farm education in a fun way. It is a very necessary service to teach our kids about growing our own food, tending animals and where our food comes from and how it gets to the table. It also helps kids understand the difference between pets (dogs & cats) and stock that is raised to provide food for families. Kids get it right away. Some adults who have been sheltered, do not understand the cycle of life, really can't make a distinction between animals raised for food and pets such as their dog. Spending time at the Benner's Farm can help. It is a working farm that supports a family through the art of farming, raising fruits and vegetables, and livestock. The lovely family that has owned it for years offers the community authentic camp and education programs so children will know about the art of farming, sustainable food and nature. We are blessed to have such caring and knowledgeable people willing to share their experience and what they love so we all may learn. The culture of farming is centuries old in this area. It is very American to support local growers, family farms and the art of farming. I support Benner's Farm by visiting often so my kids know the difference between pets and livestock and so they know how real farmers live, and that food is better when it is grown yourself and not at a bought at a store. I highly recommend the kid's camp and also the Strawberry Festival which is coming up. We have never had such a great time. It is great to go somewhere to learn and enjoy nature in a caring environment. I appreciate the Benner's opening their doors to us and sharing the farm lifestyle. Ignore the negative reviews. Benners Farm is the quintessential family run, small community farm! I've been visiting Benner's Farm for over fifteen years with my children and husband. As a young family that had a wonder for the outdoors, the Benner's welcomed us on their farm with open arms. All these years later, the Benner's have become our extended family because that's just how genuine and authentic the family is to visitors. They've helped nurture our kids and teach them the beauty of living off the land as farmers do - something many of us don't experience as our small towns and suburbs don't have family farms. We've seen lambs, piglets, bunnies and chicks being born and helped plant and harvest a vegetable garden. We've listened to great music at Benner's outdoor concerts, sheared sheep, made maple syrup, celebrated May Days, been on hayrides and gone to Harvest festivals, swung on the big tire swing, listened to stories on the front porch, had birthday parties, field trips, attended kid friendly camps every summer and enjoyed farm fresh veggies, fruit and eggs. Benners farm is the best! I've taken my children there many times throughout the years, and visited there for educational purposes myself in HS! Our family has learned so much on the Benner farm! The Benner family is so dedicated to open their farm to the public and educate the community as to what self sufficient farm life is like. Every season offers unique and fun events, camps, parties etc. You can definitely tell immediately how passionate they are about what they do, with the love and care they put into the farm, animals, horticulture, visitors, and are always on hand to answer questions and share their vast wealth of knowledge. We really liked our visit to Benner's Farm. I used to go when I was younger and liked it so wanted to bring my kids back. They have a lot of great classes to teach children about farm life. Growing plants, harvesting fruits and vegetables, how maple syrup is made and more. They also have a lot of animals to see and learn from. They can see how the animals grow and change, what they eat and how they interact with each other. They also have classes for adults since they run a working farm they teach about how to live off the land and how to raise animals for farm uses (milking, gathering eggs and butchering). Wow! I had not been to the farm in a few years, but recently went for a visit for one of their Baby Barnyard afternoons. This place is a gem. I'm so lucky to live in the same community as this real working farm. The Benner family makes you feel right at home. Both of my kids attended the summer camp programs here years ago and I can see that nothing has changed on the farm, except for the additional barn building that they build to accommodate their growing class offerings. Benner's farm is a wonderful working farm that opens it's arms to the public for education and fun. The kids love all of their programs and camps. It has been an integral part of the 3 village community for many many years. The baby animal programs in the spring are always a big hit! Please disregard the negative reviews about this farm. They were written by protesters in an attempt to shame the farm into not slaughtering their cow. Remember- this is a real working farm, and the cow was raised for this specific purpose. Benner's farm is an amazing family-run farm full of love, humor, and a deep appreciation for the history and craft of farming. This place is a staple to my community and an they provide and educational experience like no other place on the island. Have been coming here for decades. Don't come expecting a petting zoo....but do expect to handle some real animals while learning about them and the entire working farm. They produce wool, eggs, milk, vegetables and feed their animals nothing but natural feed with no antibiotics or chemicals. Although the farm itself was nice. All the people working there were all very nice. The owner who gave us the class completley pushed his own political agenda the entire time he was speaking with us. We were there with children whom did not need to hear sentences that started with "That Jesus guy...etc. He put down our President. Which is not his place to do. I attended a benefit for Star Island at Benner's Farm in 2007 and have returned to visit ever since. Benner's Farm is a real-deal working farm. This includes humanely raising livestock, maple sugaring, strawberry picking, and more. The family who runs the farm are true educators and love sharing their way of life with people who are willing to learn. Go support them. They are a loving family who shows nothing but love for the animals they keep. I would be glad to take my children here and show them how animals are humanely raised and used for food outside of factory farms if I still lived in the area. Benner's Farm is a great place to take your kids!! Both my older children went there on school trips, very educational, they loved it!! I plan on taking my 4 year old there very soon! It is a wonderful learning experience for the kids to be able to participate in a real Working farm!!! Kids and adults should learn where there food comes from! Benner's farm programs are an amazing experience for children. They teach our children about the "circle of life". My kids have all been through the programs here, and completely understand how a farm sustains it's community and how animals provide nutrition for eachother and humans. Without farms there would be no food. In a place as packed as Long Island where there are plenty of highways, strip malls and shopping centers, farms are rare.
