I really like Benny's barbecue. I've been there twice this week. I have never had barbecue turkey before. Here I had it in a sandwich. It was moist, smoky and delicious. It served that soft round sweet bun reminiscent of Chick-fil-A. The brisket barbecue beans are exactly that. Barbecue beans, with a slight spice to it and some big chunks of brisket. Yum! The brisket sandwich is also excellent. They asked if I wanted it in slices or chopped and I had it chopped and loved it. The barbecue sauce is more in the ketchup beside, but that's fine. Coleslaw is OK. The serving of cornbread is small for the price. They don't serve barbecue chicken, which I found surprising but I love the brisket and the turkey and will be going back for more! Bbq spot in an alley north of Yonge and Eglinton. One server was really nice, one was just there to work lol which isn't a bad thing. We had the tray for one each. My ribs were tender but not enough flavor. The brisket wasn't tough but wasn't super tender either, the fatty part was the best. Again not enough flavor. This came with a sausage, I got the jalapeño cheese which was delicious and dense. The best part of the tray was the mac n cheese. There is bbq sauce at each table which helped add more flavor to the meat. The pace is pretty big with a limited amount of seating inside. But they have a patio area as well. read more

Benny's BBQ Finally made it to Benny's BBQ and it didn't disappoint. I've been wanting to come and try this place for a long while now and I finally got the chance. The food and staff (especially Nicholas) were awesome! I was really happy to see they have some space to dine in after you get your food. The place is clean and spacious. To avoid disappointment, I strongly recommend calling to pre-order whatever it is that you want. They sell out fast. I ordered the day before we planned to arrive. There were 4 of us dining. We pre-ordered the Texas Trinity for 4 and added extra brisket and pork belly burnt ends. We especially enjoyed: - Beef brisket - very flavourful, juicy and super tender - Pork belly burnt ends - sweet and a bit chewy on the outside and very tender on the inside - Pork side ribs - literally fell of the bones and very tasty THANKS Benny's staff! Can't wait to go back! Side note re streets parking - be careful parking on the northern bound side of Yonge Street in front of the restaurant area towards the end of the workday. There is no parking between 4 PM and 6 PM. You can park on the southbound side during those times with no issue. Make sure to read the parking signs very carefully. read more

Because of my food intolerances I could only eat the cornbread side dish & the beans. The meats were delicious but a tad over seasoned for me. The cornbread was yummy but a small size. That's why I'm giving them a 3.5 out of 5 stars. Just a note: They only make so much food per day & once it's sold out that's it. It's gone. They're not going to make more. I will say that they get really close to the Texas BBQ style. Hubby & I have been to Dallas & their BBQ places are way better & classier. But Benny's gets close to authentic Texas BBQ. The service was good. It's set up where you make the order, pay & then sit down. They will bring the food to you. The guys manning the order desk were nice, friendly & efficient. The food is just served on metal trays & waxed paper. Cutlery is plastic. The ambiance is pretty basic. I'm not sure what was in this location before. But Benny's has picnic tables and some small square tables near the washroom. The women's washroom was run down, and dirty. It wasn't well lit either. One of the best bbq places I've tried yetis ribs. On saturdays, they have a beef rib special. I highly recommend getting one if you've never tried beef ribs. They are huge and delicious. What has me salivating every time I think of Benny's is their St. Louis style side ribs ($12 for 1/2lb pictured). They are some of the best ribs I've ever eaten, the barque wonderfully caramelized containing a hint of sweetness and a bit of spice that lingers. It's so flavourful that no sauce was required, just bites of the tender pork and its juices was enough for me. They're so good that a pound to myself is what I'll need next visit. Everyone raves about their brisket ($19 for 1/2lb pictured) and I can see why it's such a hit. The amount of juice that comes out of each slice is incredible. Maybe it's the cut we received, but there was a sliver of fat running through the centre that kept it moist to the final bites. I did find the brisket's rub a tad strong - overly salty and heavy handed on the pepper - but this does help ensure the entire brisket is flavourful. Next time I'll wipe off some of the rub prior to digging in for the first bite. The smoked chicken wings ($15 for 1lb) are a Friday special and after two flavourful meats, these still impressed. A fair size, the wings were tender with a light smokiness. These babies were perfect for dunking into Benny's barbeque sauce, which has a tangy mild sweetness. Our order arrived with pickled cucumber and onions that were great for cutting through the greasiness of the meat as well as two thin slices of white bread that soaked up the leftover rib and brisket juices. Who would have thought good to the last drop is a slogan that works for barbecue as well? Despite my fill of meat, the banoffee pudding ($8.50) sounded intriguing - a banana pudding with a toffee glaze. While I found the top portion of the dessert slightly gritty, the bottom was creamy and contained chunks of soft wafer. The bananas could be sliced thinner, or the thicker slices halved, so that there's a more even distribution of bananas against the custard. Ordered from Benny's tonight and it had been one year since we had last ordered. Will NOT be ordering from them again! The portions have shrunk tremendously! I would have willingly paid more to get the 1lb of brisket that i ordered. I got 5 slices total for an order of 1lb. This was an utter joke! $50 for 5 slices??? Who pays $10/ slice for brisket! This barbecue spot will be my go-to from now on. I dined-in on a Saturday evening and on that day the brisket, and most of their sides were sold out. That should be a sign of how much people enjoy the food here! Food: We ordered the Texas Trinity for $50, it comes with 1/2 lb of brisket, 1/2 lb of side ribs, 1 sausage, and 2 sides. The sides we got were coleslaw and brisket beans. Since the brisket was sold out, they substituted it with chopped brisket which was prolly even better in my opinion. The ribs were deliciously seasoned and finger-licking good. The two items I was least looking forward to - the sausage and the brisket beans ended up being my favourites! The sausage and the stew that the beans were cooked in had such great flavour. I can't describe them unfortunately, you'll have to find out for yourselves. This young man has really nailed his product. Best ribs I've had in years. After going to rib fest every day one weekend, they can't compare to Benny's. First time here, tried the Porkie Platter for two. My favourite was the side ribs. The sauce i think was a Caroline style, not too sweet. Should have tried the beef brisket. Ordered beans but I prefer my beans with a touch of sweetness (like a bit of brown sugar or maple) which these didn't have. But the coleslaw tasted fresh and was slightly creamy with a hint of dill. I've been eyeing on the brisket on their IG page for awhile. Drooling as I watch the videos and photos. Finally, I got to try it today! I ordered the platter for one and chose the brisket and side ribs and the brisket beans for the side. It was soft, juicy and delicious! It's 7:08pm now and I heard the brisket is running low. The Turkey was sold out. The brisket beans was surprisingly delicious. Usually I hate beans but this one, it was a little spicy and not too sweet with chucks of meat inside. When I heard that a new barbecue joint was coming to the Yonge/Eglinton area, I got pretty excited. There've been plenty of Texas-style barbecue places in the city, but none have managed to capture the flavor and smokiness of the real thing. I held out hope that perhaps Benny's Barbecue might finally be able to reverse that disappointing trend. Not so much. I'd been following Benny's on social media and the brisket looked like the thing to get, so I ordered a half pound of the stuff (which turned out to be three slices, somehow). It sure looked and smelled good, but flavorwise I can't say I was blown away. It wasn't really smoky in the way that good barbecue is supposed to be, and, making matters worse, it surprisingly tough and far from tender. The fatty edges were quite tasty, at least. I will admit, however, that when eaten as a sandwich with the included white bread, barbecue sauce, and pickles and onions, this is actually a pretty tasty concoction. I also got the pulled pork to try, and it was awful. It was mushy and flavorless, and I was frankly shocked that they had the gall to even serve it. I'm just stunned that this is what they think good pulled pork is supposed to taste like. For my sides, I got the Brisket Beans, which were pretty decent and packed with irresistible chunks of meat, and the Potato Salad, which was so salty that it was basically inedible. I think there's a lot of potential here and it's possible I caught them on a bad day, but I honestly can't see myself ever returning. read more

I went for the lunch special which is a sandwich and a side for $16.50. I decided on getting the chopped brisket sandwich and a side of coleslaw. I couldn't help myself so I went with a 1/2 lb portion of pulled pork so I could taste test a few items. The sandwich was topped with a massive amount of chopped brisket which was tender and smoky and cooked to perfection. You sometimes got a bit of a piece with the bark that was out of this world. They added a touch of their BBQ sauce (excellent as well). It's all held together by a soft potato bun. Super filling sandwich. The side of pulled pork was plenty for two and they also can top it with the BBQ sauce. It was pulled and smoked perfectly and was tender and juicy. The side of slaw was also substantial and amazing. You could definitely share it with someone. The slaw was light and not too mayo based. A perfect accompaniment to the smoked meat. The also gave a small sample of picked onions and pickles. A nice tangy side to go with your meal. I would definitely be back to try more items as I have my eye on the turkey, sausage and the ribs of course! I also want to try their corn bread. They have desserts but I was stuffed and didn't try them this time! They open from 11:30am (Wed- Sat) until they sell out which is probably not long because the food is fabulous! Meat was all dried up after a 20 mins drive home. The color you see on the ribs are all just solid hard crust that is completely dry. Brisket is actually hard to swallow, sausage is like a bag of meat powder that just goes pouring out after a bite. And on top of all these, the price is quite high costing me about 70 for a 2. Growing up and currently living around Y&E this is one of the best additions to the neighborhood in years. High-quality Texas style BBQ, love the Brisket, Sausage and Pulled Pork. waited a long time to visit Benny's was really looking forward to it but unfortunately it didn't live up to the hype. pros- Brisket was topnotch Turkey was full of smoke flavour Cole slaw and Corn bread are great. cons- sausages were really small over cooked and hard to eat, The BBQ sauce is not a sauce but more of a condiment (ketchup with seasoning doesn't make a sauce) BUT the biggest disappointment were the ribs. Over seasoned and under cooked, you taste nothing but black pepper which is unfortunate considering you want to taste the flavour of smoke and meat but your left with a burning mouth of pepper unless you drown the ribs in sauce. My family surprised me with Benny's for my birthday dinner. Having lived in North Carolina I am very picky about BBQ. Benny's was amazing.
