    Texas trinity.
    Kuniyasu M.

Texas trinity for two. Around ~$70. Portions are small and it is quite expensive. Not worth the hype. The brisket was dry imo but the crust was tasty. The sausage tasted like a giant hot rod from a convenience store. The ribs were prob the best item but again, small. Sauce was tasty and so were the slaw and potato salad but nothing special.

Benny's BBQ Finally made it to Benny's BBQ and it didn't disappoint. I've been wanting to come and try this place for a long while now and I finally got the chance. The food and staff (especially Nicholas) were awesome! I was really happy to see they have some space to dine in after you get your food. The place is clean and spacious. To avoid disappointment, I strongly recommend calling to pre-order whatever it is that you want. They sell out fast. I ordered the day before we planned to arrive. There were 4 of us dining. We pre-ordered the Texas Trinity for 4 and added extra brisket and pork belly burnt ends. We especially enjoyed: - Beef brisket - very flavourful, juicy and super tender - Pork belly burnt ends - sweet and a bit chewy on the outside and very tender on the inside - Pork side ribs - literally fell of the bones and very tasty THANKS Benny's staff! Can't wait to go back! Side note re streets parking - be careful parking on the northern bound side of Yonge Street in front of the restaurant area towards the end of the workday. There is no parking between 4 PM and 6 PM. You can park on the southbound side during those times with no issue. Make sure to read the parking signs very carefully.

Food 3.5/5 Service 3.5/5 Ambiance: 2/5 Hubby wanted to try this place so we went here one day. We had a sampler plate with brisket, sausage, & ribs. It came with two sides. Because of my food intolerances I could only eat the cornbread side dish & the beans. The meats were delicious but a tad over seasoned for me. The cornbread was yummy but a small size. That's why I'm giving them a 3.5 out of 5 stars. Just a note: They only make so much food per day & once it's sold out that's it. It's gone. They're not going to make more. I will say that they get really close to the Texas BBQ style. Hubby & I have been to Dallas & their BBQ places are way better & classier. But Benny's gets close to authentic Texas BBQ. The service was good. It's set up where you make the order, pay & then sit down. They will bring the food to you. The guys manning the order desk were nice, friendly & efficient. The food is just served on metal trays & waxed paper. Cutlery is plastic. The ambiance is pretty basic. I'm not sure what was in this location before. But Benny's has picnic tables and some small square tables near the washroom. The women's washroom was run down, and dirty. It wasn't well lit either. I wouldn't dine in here again just to avoid the washrooms. It was gross. I'd say this place is better for grabbing takeout & eating at home. Me

One of the best bbq places I've tried yetis ribs. On saturdays, they have a beef rib special. I highly recommend getting one if you've never tried beef ribs. They are huge and delicious. The pork ribs were also really good. Smoky and tender. The mac was okay. I'd prefer the cheese broiled on top. I also wish they had fries. Benny himself served me. Really nice guy.

What has me salivating every time I think of Benny's is their St. Louis style side ribs ($12 for 1/2lb pictured). They are some of the best ribs I've ever eaten, the barque wonderfully caramelized containing a hint of sweetness and a bit of spice that lingers. It's so flavourful that no sauce was required, just bites of the tender pork and its juices was enough for me. They're so good that a pound to myself is what I'll need next visit. Everyone raves about their brisket ($19 for 1/2lb pictured) and I can see why it's such a hit. The amount of juice that comes out of each slice is incredible. Maybe it's the cut we received, but there was a sliver of fat running through the centre that kept it moist to the final bites. I did find the brisket's rub a tad strong - overly salty and heavy handed on the pepper - but this does help ensure the entire brisket is flavourful. Next time I'll wipe off some of the rub prior to digging in for the first bite. The smoked chicken wings ($15 for 1lb) are a Friday special and after two flavourful meats, these still impressed. A fair size, the wings were tender with a light smokiness. These babies were perfect for dunking into Benny's barbeque sauce, which has a tangy mild sweetness. Our order arrived with pickled cucumber and onions that were great for cutting through the greasiness of the meat as well as two thin slices of white bread that soaked up the leftover rib and brisket juices. Who would have thought good to the last drop is a slogan that works for barbecue as well? Despite my fill of meat, the banoffee pudding ($8.50) sounded intriguing - a banana pudding with a toffee glaze. While I found the top portion of the dessert slightly gritty, the bottom was creamy and contained chunks of soft wafer. The bananas could be sliced thinner, or the thicker slices halved, so that there's a more even distribution of bananas against the custard. Yet, the toffee sauce was fire, thick and perfectly flavoured.

This barbecue spot will be my go-to from now on. I dined-in on a Saturday evening and on that day the brisket, and most of their sides were sold out. That should be a sign of how much people enjoy the food here! Food: We ordered the Texas Trinity for $50, it comes with 1/2 lb of brisket, 1/2 lb of side ribs, 1 sausage, and 2 sides. The sides we got were coleslaw and brisket beans. Since the brisket was sold out, they substituted it with chopped brisket which was prolly even better in my opinion. The ribs were deliciously seasoned and finger-licking good. The two items I was least looking forward to - the sausage and the brisket beans ended up being my favourites! The sausage and the stew that the beans were cooked in had such great flavour. I can't describe them unfortunately, you'll have to find out for yourselves. Service/atmosphere: They have about 7 bench seatings which can accommodate up to 4-6 people. And a couple of tables for 2-4 people. All the tables are spaced out far apart. The staff here are so kind! There is a washroom here!

This young man has really nailed his product. Best ribs I've had in years. After going to rib fest every day one weekend, they can't compare to Benny's. First time here, tried the Porkie Platter for two. My favourite was the side ribs. The sauce i think was a Caroline style, not too sweet. Should have tried the beef brisket. Seeing the brisket brought a tear to me eye Come early, they sell out. Benny checks on his customers to see if they are enjoying the food, will come back, likely regularly.

An unplanned walk-in that turned, quite happily, into a small celebration. Good Brothers…read moreunderstands that barbecue is less a meal than an event, and it stages one with easy conviviality: a table of friends, a few drinks, and a steady procession of skewers arriving as quickly as you can order them. The seasoning is the triumph here. There is spice, confident but never domineering, and real flavour in the meat rather than smoke standing in for it. The skewers are modest in size, which is a virtue: it invites grazing, and it encourages the table to be adventurous. Service is warm and notably brisk, so the rhythm of ordering and eating never falters. If there is a caveat, it is one of appetite arithmetic. Order generously, then order again. A thoroughly good time.

They gave us the table directly in front of the counter where the cashier stays, so I requested a different table which we then had to wait another 10 to 15 minutes for. This is not at all a complaint as it was requested. The service was good but most of the servers didn't really speak English, which I guess is to be expected in Chinatown. I don't have any complaints about that. The food took about 10-15 minutes once ordered. We ordered the Grilled Squid, Grilled Oysters, Beef Ribs, Chicken Thigh Skewers, Bean Curd Rolls w/ Cilantro, Grilled Eggplant and Cauliflower. Pretty much everything was over flavoured and lots of MSG. The beef ribs were quite good. Not the best I've had but good. The chicken skewers were fine. The oysters tasted pretty decent but I only had a couple bites of one because I'm not a huge fan of oysters. The bean curd rolls were fine but they could have been better if they took the time to put just cilantro leaves in there not the whole stems, which made them take forever to chew. The grilled eggplant was good only because I love eggplant, there was waaay too much seasoning for the thin piece of eggplant. The cauliflower was my favourite but again, the seasoning should be toned down. The Grilled Squid we both took one bite of and could immediately tell it was either not fresh or not good quality so we didn't eat it. They removed it from the bill as requested which we appreciated. They had free self serve slushies which was a cute touch. Overall the staff and service was good but the food was below average, which was disappointing given the restaurant's rating.

The service was ok. I felt like it took a really long time to get our orders. My husband ordered the Pad Khi Mao Spicy Noodles with no spice, shrimp and chicken and he enjoyed his dish. He said it tasted really good but the portion size was small and he was still hungry afterwards. I ordered the XL Tom Yum Soup and it would definitely not serve 3-4 people as a full meal as advertised. It was almost equivalent to a large bowl at my favourite restaurant for Tom Yum Soup and it was $10 more expensive. The soup also tasted extra tangy or sour. I did not love the soup and it didn't settle my upset stomach. I would give the soup 3 out of 5 stars. Would we return? It is not likely we would return to this restaurant. They have a retro vibe, with decorations such as cassettes, records, spool film, old movie posters, etc. You can access their online menu via a QR Code or use a printed copy. There are four dishes that have a limited quantity per day. We ordered the following (check my menu photos for a description of the dishes): 1. Thai Milk Tea ($6.50). 2. "Do Not Disturb" Cocktail ($16.95). 3. Tum Kao Pod ($16.95). 4. Hoy Jor ($20.95). One of their signature dishes. 5. Chick N Chips ($14.95). 6. Lamb Si Klong with Sticky Rice ($34.95). One of their signature dishes. Their food is quite good and plated well, hence I considered it elevated dining, my words, not theirs. They even put some edible gold leaf on their signature dishes! I thought the taste was authentic. The downside is some items were too dry, like the chicken in the Chick N Fries and the Sticky Rice. The service is really good. Because there is limited seating, it is best to make a reservation. The tables are set up for 2 or 4 people. Reserving for 4+ people is a definite requirement since it may be hard to put adjacent tables together. Along with the retro vibe, some walls are illuminated by alternating neon colours. It makes for an "interesting" interior with changing colours. At least they don't affect the colours on your table much. This is a sister restaurant to Si Lom Thai Bistro, which is nearby. There is free WiFi. The restaurant is not wheelchair accessible. There are separate male/female washrooms downstairs, thus they are not wheelchair accessible. There is paid neighbourhood street. There are high chairs for little children. Review 2024-237
