Recently found this place, and will choose this over chain restaurants. Toppings are a lot more fresh, cold, and crisp. Really like the bread choices here: squaw slice or roll, French roll, jalapeño cheese bread, sourdough sliced, wheat sliced, or marble rye sliced. Service is always good, and fairly quick. Personally not a fan of the pepperoncini here. They're a bit too sour and dill pickle-y. read more

I hate to give a poor review but it needs to be brought up. I go out of my way to support local businesses and have been to Benny's a few times. I feel more and more like a burden on the staff as I order a sandwich. No conversation, no smiles, nothing you'd expect from a local shop. I almost don't want to ask for too many toppings because I don't want to inconvenience them. The very last time I was there I was "helped" by an older woman (possibly manager or owner), after leaving I looked at my wife and we both had the same feeling. "Wow, she did not want to be there today." A few days ago a passed Benny's and went to Jersey Mike's down the street. As soon as I opened the door I was greeted with smiles from everyone working there. Jersey Mike's is a relatively big chain but started from the bottom at one point. My wife and I visited Benny's today for the first time, and it was excellent! We split a turkey/avocado/bacon on a French roll; everything was delicious and fresh. Also, the girl behind the counter was very nice and personable, they're lucky to have her as an employee (I'm afraid I didn't catch her name). And the music they played was great, classic rock (but not too loud, so you could easily have a conversation). Overall this is a great find for us, the next time we're near Murrieta we'll aim to drop by! read more

Benny's totally gets an A for effort. It's a mom and pop sandwich shop with freshly made items. Clean and comfortable inside with alright service. Not overly friendly, but not rude. My husband ordered a Benny's Special, basically an Italian sub. I had a salami and cheddar sandwich. The ingredients were tasty and the sandwich roll was good. The roll highlighted my husbands and my differing preferences. It's not big thick hearty bread. Instead, it's less dense and more narrow. I preferred it because I don't like too much bread and it allowed the sandwich fillings to stand out more. My husband prefers it more hearty. The potato and macaroni salads were homemade and good. They could use more flavor, but it was a good start. I'm not sure we would drive from south Temecula specifically for Benny's again, but we'd return if we were in the area. read more

I've been in this area for years and have always past by this place but never tried it out. I finally had the opportunity to give this place a shot and I have mixed feelings. First off, the service was good. The girl who made my sandwich did a great job taking my order and making my roast beef sandwich accurately. The next thing is the sandwich itself. I do like that they have alfalfa sprouts as a topping and each ingredient I received was fresh. However, my chief complaint is the roast beef. The beef was on the tough side and it was dry as well. It tasted kind of like it was prepared a few days beforehand and dried out while sitting in the fridge. Some of the large chain sub shops have better roast beef than this place. Also, the bread was way too thick. It felt as if every bite was 75% bread. The overall flavor of the sandwich was ok, nothing to complain about. Yum! Found this spot on Yelp and Yelpers did not steer us wrong. We ordered the large Benny's special which has turkey, ham, bacon and avocado with your choice of a multitude if extremely fresh toppings! We ordered ours on Squaw bread it was very fresh and tasty topped with oats. Perfect bread for this sandwich. The large combo with chips and a drink was a little over $14...pretty reasonable compared to many deli/sandwich places. Benny and all working here were extremely friendly and helpful, especially since they knew it was our first time here. We were fortunate there wasn't a line when we walked in as the line quickly extended to the door as it gets busy during the lunch hour, but worth the wait. If you are in a hurry maybe order ahead. Only one person making sandwiches made the wait long. Hubs had the cheesesteak which contained jalapeños apparently as he was unable to eat it, too spicy for him. The menu is nothing that's going to knock your socks off, but it fits the bill for a solid sandwich. The inside is decorated in a kind of retro diner feel with a lot of San Diego vintage sports memorabilia. I went with the California Turkey on a French roll which has bacon, turkey, and avocado. I topped it with deli mustard (they have a wide variety of condiments), mayo, lettuce, tomato, sprouts, and pepperoncinis. The sandwich was great! Bread was fresh and all toppings were good. My wife had the meatball special with provolone, Parmesan, peppers, and onions. She loved it and the meatballs were cooked perfectly and molded to the bread. The only reason I didn't rate this higher is the size of the sandwich. I didn't see a menu with the sizes so I went with a regular and it was pretty small, maybe like a 6 inch.
