Rockin' Jay's looked at my weak soul and said "bet" -- then saved it in the best way possible. Counter girl hit me with a smile so bright I almost reached for sunglasses. The entire all-female crew was straight beast-mode at the open sandwich bar, slinging subs like they were on a mission from the sandwich gods. Atmosphere? Spacious as hell, proper New York deli that moonlights as a 70s rock dive -- screaming reds and greens, green booths, wooden tables, tiled floors, the whole retro package you see in the pics. The playlist was gloriously all over the place in the best way -- Contemporary Christian one minute, 2019 pop bangers the next, basically spanning six decades of straight fire. "Listen to your heart" came on and I damn near did while they built my baby. Every single pick was gold though. I ordered the 12" Capicola & Provolone ($16.69). I yelled "the works -- no mustard, drown me in onions and olives." They dropped an absolute beast of a sandwich... and it came perfectly toasted straight out the gate the way it should be. No sad "can you toast this?" negotiation. Golden, crunchy bread that cracks like it owes you money. Meat stacked stupid high, provolone doing its melty thing, then they buried the whole thing under an avalanche of fresh, snapping shredded lettuce and threw in those glossy peppers on the side like a mic drop. This thing is ridiculously messy -- oil dripping, lettuce flying, pure delicious chaos in every bite. Pro tip: there's no napkin dispenser at the tables, so you gotta go full scavenger hunt by the self-serve soda machine to grab your own stack. Worth every greasy finger and napkin raid. It fed this giant for two meals and left me still full, slightly greasy, and weirdly emotional. My spinach smoothie PTSD? Cured. If your diet has been as depressing as mine, stop torturing yourself and drag your weak ass here immediately. Friendly as can be, killer vibe, and subs that actually deliver. Always my favorite turkey subs, never fails. Honestly never had another turkey sub that beats Rockn' Jay's. And so consistently good is important, never fails. Came back to the store to get the corrected item and the supervisor on duty Came forth and gave us our order but also included some other things to make up for the mistake. He was very kind and the courtesy was much appreciated. Customers are not entitled to receiving things but his recovery was genuine, kind and turned the experience around. Talk about getting your money worth! Purchased a 12 in to share between 2 people. Could have shared with a 3rd person such a big portion. I could honestly say this was definitely a torpedo sandwich full of flavor. The Meat and veggies were fresh and the Italian dressing was top notch, chef's kiss!! Service was quick and very friendly. We ordered the Ultimate Mafia Marriage Grinder, my friend ordered the Hot Pastrami and a 9' pepperoni pizza which was perfect enough for a 8 year old. We were all satisfied with our choices. The place is close to the mall and a good size for a small family to enjoy a quick meal. I'm sure they can make room for a large group but it gets pretty busy for lunch on the weekends. The service was good. They were working their buns off to get all orders ready. The ambience was more like the TV sitcom Sopranos or the movie Goodfellas. I'm not just hamming it up. 1st time trying this deli. All I have to say is YUM!! I ordered a 6in Mafia Marriage & it did not disappoint! I also ordered a side of peperoncinis to enhance the flavor, but the sandwich came with 1 on top already!! I will say I was disappointed in the potato salad as it seemed it was store bought & that isn't what I was expecting with such a great sandwich!! I'll give the macaroni salad next time! I had the Famous Turkey Sub with the Works and it was served, warm and toasty and soooo tasty!! My new favorite sub spot by far! As you walk in, you proceed to the cashier at the end of the hall, place your order and seat yourself. The dining area is spacious, open and airy with lots of room for groups to dine in. I noticed there were a lot of takeout orders also. The staff are friendly and courteous even while short staffed. The cashier excused herself several times to ensure that those who have just placed an order had a clean table before she took care of the next customer! As we looked over the menu my wife chose the Antipasto Salad and I chose the Meatball Sub. First off lets talk about the service from the beginning. The service was amazing. We were greeted when we walked in and we were waited on patiently until we decided on what we wanted to eat. After we sat down it wasnt more than 10 minutes we got our food. My wife said she loved her antipasto salad and my Meatball Sub was hot and they were both fresh and tasty. The establishment was clean and even our seat and table were clean as well. After we got done eating we ordered a Chocolate Chip Cookie and a Cannoli. When they came to us my wife said that her Chocolate Chip Cookie wasn't done all the way but my Cannoli came with 3 of them in a box. I opened the box and at the very first taste of them it reminded me of how my Italian Family would make them. They were small but oh so good. Everything was great quality however my order wasn't right and it wasn't the cashiers fault (see receipt) my Italian sub was missing the onions I asked for, and my salad, there was no Italian dressing AT ALL, I had to go back out to the store for some. Food was great. The bread on the sandwich was fantastic and the pastrami was a perfect temperature. Service went well but we were a party of 4 and it took ages to get one of the sandwiches out. Wow . Order the 9" meatball sub with Mayo & mustard. I just like my meatball subs that way. Bread is fresh and they don't hold back on the sauce and cheese ! Meatballs taste great! As a native New Yorker, this is by far the closest I have felt to home in a long time. I really enjoyed the food to particularly the meatball Parmesan and the Italian cold cut. My wife did a 6 inch. Wandering around this place had some good reviews and we were looking for a hold-over till dinner time. The gals at the counter were pleasant and suggested the roast beef for us. They had a variety of orders to fill before us so the eventual sandwich took about 12 minutes. The bread was flaky yet soft, not to salty. Roast beef tasty and cooked medium. The place was empty however there were several orders to go. They have serval seating and the place was clean and organized. We order the Chilli spaghetti which was different but yummy. Came in to this shop today for the first time, ordered a chicken parmigiana and a hot pastrami sandwich. Both were delicious! I asked for onions in my hot pastrami but they weren't in the sandwich, I didn't really like the Italian dressing they put on it but I can ask to not have it next time. Christian was nice, he offered us water cups because it was hot outside. Inside the restaurant was great, lots of seating available and the soda fountain was in the lobby. So we tried rockin Jays again because I told my fiancé about the Italian beef au jus French dip sandwich and we also got the cheesy garlic bread. I've never had it, but it was AMAZING! it was mozzarella cheese with Mariana and it sad out on top of garlic bread. The side of pickle spears were definitely a MUST. It cuts the savory flavor from the sandwich and the cheese bread and it is a nice refreshing pallet cleanser. The aus ju was the good, it needed salt, but I don't think I stirred it enough lol. The sandwich itself needed seasoning of some sort. It had no flavor, but the sharp mozzarella added that saltiness that the sandwich desperately needed. But all in all I would still order it again, although the outside sign says " Rockin' Jays" I hope they fix it online haha read more
