I was wondering why the reviews were so low. I've been coming here for years. Over the years it has always been good. We have not tired the groomers. We browse the cats and the fish and live animals. We have always been happy with our selection. The hamster we got for Christmas is still alive and healthy. We just purchased some fish. I feel like fish are tricky. But they are still alive. As we walked around we saw one person at the register and two other people cleaning the mouse and other critters containers. They were busy but they were still friendly. I waited by the fish for help. I didn't get any so I went and asked. They came over to me very quickly. it was a pleasant interaction. We can't help when some people aren't aware of their surroundings but a guy was holding up the line. The cashier answered his questions and was very nice. This guy was apologetic but three people behind you and your complaining about cat food points And buying one thing. I was there for most of the conversation. She answered all his questions and had a lot of patience. But she could've called another person to answer any other unanswered questions. And then move along with the other customers. But another work came up to help. read more

Do not book for grooming services here. I received my dog back today and was extremely unhappy with the outcome. My dog was booked for a regular Bath & Haircut appointment, it includes everything in the screenshot, total is $61. I also PAY for a monthly membership, bringing my total down to $48 for the grooming services. Upon check in and I gave them the details of what I wanted, how I wanted my dog cut and what I wanted done, "teddy bear" style. The groomer then asked if I wanted my dogs nails trimmed he specifically said "nails cut", I said yes as it's included in the bath and groom. See photo. When I picked up my dog, my dog was SHAVED down. I can see the color of her flesh on her top of her ears. The groomers were all gone and it was a regular store clerk who gave me dog and checked me out. I was so upset with how my dog looked and decided I would call the to file a complaint when I got home. Then they charged me $78 for the groom and EXTRA nail services that should've been included. I thought they said $48 and I didn't realize until I actually looked at my receipt when I got home. We immediately called to complain and spoken to the store manager who apparently was the person who checked out our dog and she didn't give us the grooming folder with notes, you receive after the service. When we actually spoke to her on the phone she showed no care whatsoever for me being upset with the services. She didn't even apologize or was sympathetic, just said that it's what was signed off for the dog. I have no issue paying for a service I receive, but not for being charged more for nail trim and being overcharged. I have taken previous dogs to Petco, every dog I've had. Never complained, but the disregard and disinterest of the store manager made me cancel my membership. read more

I'm 9 mos pregnant and practically BEGGED to use the EMPTY bathroom bcuz the customer in the other one had been there for 15 mins already. They kept refusing saying it was for "staff only". Despite being what seems to be shortstaffed, they truly care about animals and the work that they do. I just had the worst experience of my life customer service wise and shockingly at a PETCO! My partner and I shop once a week at Petco and the Greenback location was our go to for as long as we've had our 4 cats but now will NEVER come back considering the horrible experience we had with Sasha this evening. Like I said previously we have 4 cats and shop weekly so it's no small trip; Sasha proceeded to make unnecessary and disrespectful comments about how many items we had and how we were overwhelming her. Her words exactly were "WOW, that's a lot" She proceeded to then scan TWO items and looks at me and goes "can you be a shelf for me" implying that I'm gonna hold the items for her...So you want me to do your job for you? I literally had to ask her to physically put it in the bag!! She could obviously tell that we were not happy so she says "what, not funny?" and continues to make nasty remarks to the point my partner walks out almost says to me we should just leave and go shop at another Petco but she decided to wait in the car while I sat with Sasha and paid. Sasha watches my partner walk away and says to me "oh no she couldn't wait?" and continues to be disrespectful to me when I'm expressing my displeasure with her customer service. What really made this experience the worst for us was Sasha was scanning the cans not watching the screen and doesn't realize all of the cans hadn't been scanned, turns to me asking me what the last thing scanned was and how she's gonna take so much longer now which I thought was highly inappropriate and unwarranted. If I could give it 0 stars I would. I have been coming here forever to buy my dogs food. But today did it for me. My husband was going to buy a Chameleon; he has had many types of animals and cares for them all very well. However, today the Associate Krystal took it upon herself to 1. Bud in a conversation & add her input that I was having in Spanish with my husband about the Chameleon 2. Say she didn't reccommend it as a "starter pet" ( no one said anything about a starter per) it wasn't going to be my pet nor my daughters it was literally going to be my husbands hence him buying it either way that's none of her bussiness. 3. Then lastly as he puts the only available cage they had for it in the cart and tells her he is going to buy it she abruptly says NO!! I do not feel comfortable selling it to you (EXCUSE ME?! Now you make judgment calls?! ) Not only was that disrespectful to the man willing to purchase it, it was highly unprofessional saying it right in front of a 7 yr old. I have been nothing but disappointed with my recent experience of receiving (or lack thereof) dog training services. We were initially receiving dog training services at the Antelope location and had completed 2 weeks of the 6 week course. Upon arriving for our Saturday morning classes, we walked in to find that the training services at the Antelope location had been terminated. There was no communication to us regarding this change. So, we were told that they would then be transferring our training classes to the Citrus Heights location. About one hour later, I received a call from the Citrus Heights location. After letting them know my availability, the dog trainer, Desiree, stated that there are no classes that she can put me in for Saturdays or Sundays. She said that the best she could offer would be to schedule a time and start a new class. However, if another dog parent does not sign up for the same class, then the class would be cancelled - thus postponing another week of lessons. When speaking with Krystal, the store manager, she stated that if a training class is scheduled and another dog does not sign up, then the patron who has already been scheduled will need to be cancelled as a "private" class cannot be done because it "costs a lot more." So, if I had already cleared my schedule and made an appointment for a training session, it can still be cancelled at any time as they are not willing to accommodate the customer. In addition to the inconvenience, this is a disservice to our puppy. This class is meant to be a buildable class -building knowledge on a weekly basis based off of the training completed the previous week. If consecutive weeks are lost, this contributes to learning loss for the puppy. This customer service and lack of continuity of care is appalling as the customer is being cast aside as the staff are not willing to respect the confirmed schedule . Lastly, Krystal told me that I should be taking my business elsewhere. Well, I can assure you that is my plan and I will discourage any of my friends and family from patronizing this company if this is how they treat their customers. read more

This place dose not take car of their reptiles, the iguana I seen looked extremely sick from the last time I saw him( which was a couple weeks ago) he has a black head and is obviously not getting the right light, there was another take with two chameleons one was dead and it looked like it had been sitting there for awhile, due to the cricket that had began to eat it I'll be sending these photos to corporate. This is unacceptable and I will no longer be purchasing products here. You really need to hire someone who cares about your animals more. read more

Took my dog for grooming there. They make me pay before seeing my pet. They were saying how much they worked on my dog, making it sound like they did a fabulous job to lure for generous tip. When I saw my dog, it was a terrible job they did, not what I asked them to do. I asked them to not shave my dog hair short, and of course, they did. The shaves are uneven, and in some area, I can see my dog's skin. Not only that, the groomer shaved the front legs so deep that my dog was very uncomfortable and started to bit his front legs and bled. I have never seen my dog so uncomfortable to a point that he bit himself. My dog usually goes to the Petco at Arden. Due to the holiday, this place was the only Petco nearby available for grooming. There is a reason why they have openings when the other store is always booked. Pet owners, think carefully before taking your beloved pet to this store for service. read more

We took our Pomeranian puppy to be groomed here. It was his first grooming. He looked great. It did appear that his poor testicles were razor burned. But otherwise it was a good experience. I made my purchase on 1/29/2023 so 3/01/2023 was one day over. The cashier said oh you're a day over the 30 days I an unable to return. I explained I had been sick and this was my 1st day out in two weeks. He said he couldn't return. I said I will take store credit and was told sorry. I told him he needed to call the manager. The person in charge said same thing. I called customer service gave all my information and was told I would receive a call from the district manager in 24-48 hours.. Our dog Sophie really loves to take a bath and these large tubs, good soap and the spray nozzle make things so much simpler to get the job done. I just moved to cirtus heights. I came in about 6:20 the other night. They had their doors locked, although they close at 7. I was quickly informed as I saw a few customers leaving that the store was over crowded and there was just two employees there at the time. Understandable, as I'm in retail and understand how hectic, and even dangerous, that can be. Once I came in, the manager, Denise, helped me get all the right things to build my aquarium. She was very helpful in meeting all my needs. I checked out with Sarah (great name), and she was very polite and friendly! She even set me up with the pals rewards which helped me save a few bucks. Honestly my visits to the store over the past year have been pleasant. Usually they price match anything from their online site which is awesome because you get a lot of discounts. But I've recently encountered this individual name Brandon that works at the front counter as a cashier probably the rudest person I have ever had the opportunity of meeting. this guy told me he would give me a hand as soon as his line went down I sat there for a good 1012 minutes looking at him as he picked his nose and totally forgot I existed. It took a lot for me not to throw the collar through his face. Jordyn is amazing! Our pooch, Cami, adores her. She is gentle with our not-so-gentle giant and Cami loves Jordyn possibly more than me or her dad. So sad to see her go from training but can't wait for our first groom with her! The only way we can get her in the car is by asking is she wants to go see Jordyn! As for product, they are knowledgable and make great recommendations based on our dog's picky pallet and her weirdness. Great store, great selection, though it would be nice if they carried rats. We got a couple of American guinea pigs on Jan. 5th, and while they're way overpriced and timid, they're adorable and I love hearing the various sounds they make. We've also gotten bettas from them​. Unfortunately, the crown tail​ betta we got died soon after getting​ him, but our beautiful​, vivid steel blue butterfly betta has been doing wonderfully in the 5 or so months we've had him. read more
