This was my first time coming here. My family brought me here for a surprise birthday dinner. The atmosphere was ok. As we walked up the stairs, we walked in on the chef arguing with a server and telling him that she is his boss & she would fire him. Not once did they acknowledge our presence until she walked away and the server looked up. I ordered the Ocean Juice & a lemonade. The lemonade was very weak & watery. The Ocean Juice lacked juice and was full of rum. Too much rum for my liking. I ordered a calamari as an appetizer and half-way through it I found a piece of hair. That threw my appetite off. My husband ordered the 1/2lb shrimp boil and it was submerged in so much garlic that he spit it out and could not eat it. They tried offering him something else but we were ready to go at that point. My first experience at Ben's was incredibly satisfying. I had the clam chowder which was very tasty. It was more on room temperature but can tell it was freshly made. I also had the spicy, cajun snow crab combo which consist of snow crabs, shrimp, potatoes and corn. Portion is good for two. Overall the food is mouthwatering good, fairly upbeat ambience. Just had dinner at Ben's Crab here in Long Island ( 9/15/2019 at 7pm )... The meals took 30 mins I had the full lobster , while my mother had the Snow Crab legs . Both meals were tasty a filling . The place was busy, the music was loud on the top floor ( a varied mix of R&B ) , the wait staff was efficient but hectic . The lemonade I ordered was watered_ down , but not a deal breaker . Our two meals came out to $79.30 ( A bit expensive ) but ok . The decor is new , subdued nautical themed . All things considered it was ok . Updated review : 2 nd time here, still the best seafood place to have. Love it! Keep it up. We went there on Sunday around 6pm on the first day that the weather hit above 90F, we were thinking the beach but it was just too hot( still don't get used to it yet). That's when we decided to try the new seafood restaurant Boiling Crab. Highlights of that day was the garlic noodle ( nicely done not too garlicky the consistency of the noodle was perfect), sautéed brussels sprouts ( love it when they slightly charred the sprouts, thats how you treat brussel sprouts) brings out the nuttines and caramelized at the same time. Finally the grand finale was the Alaskan king crab and lobster( can't go wrong with both garlic butter or spicy cajun style) will definitely come back. read more

The staff are the most pleasant and accommodating, which is why I return. They are very welcoming. The vibe is very chill, so you can go with a group and not worry about distracting others who may be trying to have a nice quiet dinner, go someplace else for that. Nice afterwork spot to relieve stress or a nice weekend vibe and it's family friendly. Strong drinks, I've learned, though to get my boil steamed plain, sauce and butter on the side. I do this at all seafood spots now bc they all tend to over season. Also I don't have to worry about the mess. Definitely will continue to return. This place is in a great location, very close to a lot of places in oceanside. Lovely decorations. In our review, our experience is based on the fact we ordered on the phone and picked up. We called around late dinner time i'd say 8 - 9pm, we ordered just the Dungeness crab w/ their cajun sauce medium spice and was told 20 min. We got there within 25 min ( in the event they may have been crowded ) Upon entering the place. They had 2 levels and NOBODY was downstairs at the bar or kiosk, so we just went up the stairs where we assumed since it was late, they were wrapping up ( not a great start as there wasn't a greeter or even someone to tell us where to pick up our food ) We went up the stairs and our food wasn't ready, they put us at a nearby table where there were dishes and such across from the bar, to which my thought pattern "was why not sit us at the bar?!?" I was kinda in the mood to buy a drink but oh well. We waited at least another 15 more minutes and received our bag of food, paid and proceeded to go home. -Regarding the food- AMAZING!...we were shocked with how it all looked in a bag but everything tasted VERY well. The sauce was amazing although not very cajuny, the spice could have been a little better but still so good. So I decided to try this place because Cajun bucket was closed and my boyfriend and I never had "seafood boil". Soo first lemme say this place is sooo nice inside, the atmosphere is a nice theme and it speaks very "under the water" or "pirate ship". We ordered combo A and combo E with the Cajun sauce. My boyfriend said that the Crawfish didn't taste to well but I didn't see nothing wrong. The crab in Combo E is AMAZINGG ! I was soo pleased on how much meat that crab had. I enjoyed the atmosphere and music. I ordered a lobster roll and cajun wings which I did not enjoy. The wings were bland and didn't have much meat on the bone. The lobster roll was not delicious. They give you a lot of unseasoned lobster, I didn't like the texture of the lobster. I'm a seafood person and I've never had lobster with this type of texture. If you like seafood and don't mind getting your hands a little messy (BIBS and GLOVES provided), then you will enjoy Boiling Crab. The service was great (Rachel and Donny were very attentive). A heads up-Plastic utensils are used and food is served in a clear plastic bag. Yes I said, a bag, with lots of seasoning and spices, that DOES NOT take away from the flavor of the food. We had King Crabs, Lobster and Craw Fish & Shrimp. All delicious and tasty. Highly recommended this new spot in Oceanside. We will DEFINITELY be back soon. Starting with a positive aspect: The butter and garlic snow crab legs are insanely good. Now the not so great: My friend and I got a few different cocktails at the bar while we waited for our table and the drinks are not made with great ingredients ( as you'd expect a $10-$12 cocktail to be made with) the ingredients are all syrupy and premixed stuff and they used cheap well vodka (Georgi) in my drink, and fake lime juice in my friends drink - not fantastic- not even good. I wouldn't recommend the cocktails. Probably best having a beer. We were also going to get a bottle of wine for the table , but after tasting two different ones available we decided against it. The bartender seemed a bit insulted that we weren't fans of his drinks. But this is New York, and NYC people have certain expectations when it comes to these things. We will pay $20 for a fantastic cocktail.. The food on the other hand is great. The sides are delicious- Brussels, the catfish basket, the Cajun fries- super good, and we left there stuffed! Unique spot to get delicious crab of all kinds! They steam it in the bag with special sauces of your choice. We had the garlic sauce, very rich and creamy, almost too much so. However the king crab was large and succulent, very fresh considering we are on the east coast, they traveled far to get here! The shrimp is also large and quite tasty. We also tried the fried catfish, perfectly seasoned and crispy. Service was a little challenging, we had to ask for everything from napkins to utensils. Wine is very expensive, $8 for a small half glass of ordinary pinot grigio. Overall it was a good experience since I love crab more than anything else. We were double charged (almost - luckily we caught it). Service is a 2. Food is a 3.5 -- too much sauce in my opinion. But...if you are seeking CRAB, this is DEFINITELY a fantastic choice. I have been to many restaurants with same theme. This is by far the worst. The wait staff isn't the problem. The problem is the kitchen. The only thing they don't mess up is steamed lobster. The kitchen sucks! A prime example is the barbecued shrimp getting served so over cooked that it had a consistency like cardboard and rubber. It was disgusting. They also missed the mark with pretty much all the seasonings you can choose for the seafood dishes. I think the owner should visit The Boil in NYC so he may experience what his kitchen should be aiming for. They service from the management is subpar as well!!! read more

My friends and I stopped by here last night shortly after the beach. We were craving seafood, and this was not too far. The food was good, and the service was mediocre, but the wait time was absolutely horrible! We came around 7:00 P.M., and got seated soon, which was great. However, it took nearly an hour or so for the food we had ordered to arrive. There were moments where others were getting their food ahead of us, and the staff seemed more preoccupied with seating as many customers as possible instead of serving the ones they already had. Other patrons besides us were evidently frustrated, as no one seemed to even bother asking if anyone had taken their order until a half hour in. Just as we were about to leave, our food came, which is the only reason this restaurant does not have zero stars. It was good, and the seasoning was delightful. However, I would not come here again. I visited this location for the first time and was not at all impressed. We were asked if we wanted our drinks strong, we agreed no. Halfway into my mango mojito I couldn't feel my fingers, and honestly it scared me. I've never had less than one drink and felt at my limit. The calamari was very dry and wayyyy over seasoned, it made it very unpleasant. Their Cajun blend sauce is super salty and there isn't enough actual sauce just clumpy-ness. And worst of all, I woke up this morning to a fraud alert. Over $650 worth of equipment was almost purchased from BestBuy.com with the same card I paid my meal with. Well we received was 2 over overcooked dried out clusters with some Mayo sauce. with old bay seasoning. He asked for some more old bay seasoning and they charged him $2 additional as "sauce". Then we had a shrimp salad and the shrimp were tough and the salad was ice berg lettuce for $20. Let this all come down to the salmon which was cooked nicely but had no flavor.
