Came here on a Monday. Barely any restaurants on that strip are opened that day but this one was. Beautiful waterfront restaurant. It was mostly empty so we received the best service! Came here on a Sunday after Jones Beach to get something to eat. The music drew me to the place. That's really the only reason I walked in. There was no roti but curry chicken and I prefer to eat curry chicken with roti - not rice There was no jerk pork There was no snapper There was no fried calamari The only thing we could order was jerk chicken which we did but it was more bone than meat. Little to no meat on the pieces of chicken we got. There was a wait for someone to take our order and even bring our food. But that's to be expected at the Nautical mile on a weekend. I had such an excellent experience here last summer when I went with someone. I'm genuinely surprised at all of these negative reviews. One thing I can do is share my experience. First, this place had the best okra dish I'd ever had (my mom's family is Guyanese, for context). Everything from the flavor to the texture was perfect. The wings (baked, not fried) had this unique taste that built up with each chew, so that by the fourth or fifth chew, I'd experienced a range of good flavors with each bite. The main dishes were great as well. This was on a weekend afternoon, before they were to host a show. I love going to places off hours, so to speak. The service was nice and prompt. The hostess even rebuffed our attempts to get ingredients to the recipe with "why don't y'all come back a few times, then we'll talk about the ingredients". That's my experience. If you're around there, I'd say it's worth trying out. read more

I've visited this place about two times in person and my mom brought back takeout for myself and my husband once. The in person experience is a lot of fun, at least on weekends. There's such a lively feel to the place, it's always so full, everyone is always having a great time, and there's live entertainment (and if not, at least great music playing). The first time we went was during the day, so no live music but it was still packed and the music was bumping - felt really island-y. Unfortunately, the wait was pretty terrible. Once seated, it took forever for our waitress to come and take our order and quite some time to receive our food. When we finally thought okay, we just need to pay now - we probably waited about 40 minutes for the check. HOWEVER, the food was incredible. I got the chicken curry, my husband got jerk chicken with fried rice - both amazing. They did mess up and give him white rice at first, but they quickly remedied that which was fine. It happens. Second time around, my mom wanted to take us out to dinner for our anniversary. The view was amazing at night with everything lit up. There was a live band. We didn't have to wait long to be seated and we didn't have the endless wait issue we had previously experienced. The food was amazing. This time I tried the shrimp curry and my goodness was it filling. I was upset I couldn't finish! My mom had I believe it was the brown stew snapper which she absolutely loved and my husband got jerk salmon or something like that. Again he ordered fried rice but they gave him white (just his luck). We were told that there was no way they could have taken the order for fried rice because they were out of fried rice (but the waitress had read back our order and written it down, so I'm not sure where the mistake was made). However, this wasn't a big deal and she was nice and apologized. I was really happy with our experience and like I said, filling, flavorful, amazing comfort Caribbean food. It's always a reliable place to eat. Now for the take-out. I really think this place needs work on how they pack and send food out. They used round tin foil containers for my shrimp curry - which wasn't even curry, it was just dried down shrimp and what little gravy was in there was spilled. The portion was also especially sad looking. Terrible presentation. Tasted ok. My husband asked for jerk chicken and fried rice. This one was way better presented but also pretty sloppy overall. Started off with fried salt fish fritters. They were large, but doughy, with fish hard to find. Rasta pasta with chicken as the main course was a relative bargain at just $20. It was lovely to look at and tasted it great. The penne pasta was al dente, so cooked perfectly. The chicken pieces and vegetables were very tasty and plentiful. To top it off the dish had an excellent sauce that was like a cross between alfredo and jerk. The dishes came out slowly. My spouse had eaten half of her pasta dish before mine arrived. Service was an afterthought. Wait staff never bothered to come check on us to see if water classes needed to be refilled or if anyone wanted some fresh ground pepper, that sort of thing. Three stars because of the outstanding pasta dish, which was one of the lowest price items on the menu, and for the wonderful Nautical Mile outdoor waterside dining experience, which threw in a couple of swans swimming by as a bonus. read more

This is a new establishment on the nautical mile. This location has changed hands so many times over the last 10 years. We came for an early Saturday dinner. Upon entering the establishment we noticed it was a bit on the dim side but nicely decorated. They also had a nice crowd. We were greeted by the hostess and were seated. We opted to dine outside since it was a nice evening. The hostess wiped the the table and provided us with the drink and food menu. If you are a vegetarian the menu is limited. I ordered the Caesar salad and cheese sticks, I considered the okra fry but it is literally just okra fried. My husband ordered the jerk pork with mash potatoes. My menu was exactly what it was nothing exceptional or terrible, the cheese sticks were no greasy which was nice. My husband liked the jerk pork however the potatoes were bland. We considered ordering dessert but decided against it since they were not made by the establishment, just some boxed desserts. The food was just ok and the pricing was on par with the rest of the establishments on the mile. The service was very good, our waitress was very friendly and attentive she was the only thing that exceptional. We may go back another day to try a few other dishes. read more

Once the host took us to our seat, no one took our order. My cousin and I waited from 7:30-8 just to be asked what do we want to drink. We finally asked to be seated Inside because outside was cold. Once Inside we were offered drinks, I got the pina colada which was horrible. Not one ounce of coconut did I taste plus it was watered down. We placed our appetizer with our meal after 1 hour and 45 minutes. The chef finally came to our rescue took down our order again. Finally it came. I ordered white rice with oaxtail and appetizers was mango chicken. Absolutely horrible. My cousin ordered rice and peas and oaxtail with the same appetizer. The food was horrible. My rice was disgusting. My oaxtail was tender and tough. The chicken was completely tasteless. My cousin meat was not cooked at all whatsoever. Had she took another forced bite her teeth definitely would've broken. The service at this restaurant is horrible. But I must say the staff is working hard and fast as they can, but the management skills is NO BUENO. My cousin was given extra chicken due to her rough and tough oaxtail. We weren't charged for dinks thank God. The only thing good was the ambiance. Live band was on point. The bathrooms is just as nasty and crazy as the service. If I could leave 0 stars I would... horrible horrible service sat down (we were a party of 4) took 20 mins for someone just to take our drink orders. We ended up putting in our appetizers and mains at that same time for fear it would take another 20 mins we arrived at 6:13pm sat down at 6:20 they asked for our drink order around 6:40 (we placed our food order around that time!) 7pm got our drinks........ 8 pm WE STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED OUR APPETIZERS OR EVEN FOOD HORRIBLE SERVICE the table next to use complained about the same issue with the service and they came in about 35/40 mins after us.... AND THEY STILL GO THEIR FOOD BEFORE US.. tried to talk to the manager he was BEYOND RUDE and even went so far to say he felt threatened.... We were ignored several times. We came in famished and ready to have a great time only to be more and more annoyed by the constant dismissiveness from the rude wait staff. This was by far the absolute worst service I've ever received in my entire life! The owner wasn't even apologetic. They did not give us any complementary drinks nor appetizers for our inconvenience. I went to two different bartenders and each one charged different prices. One charged 9 dollars for a beer and 15 for a black and ginger ale. The other one charged 7 dollars for beer. If you going to run a business, I suggest you have a set price on the drinks if not you're not gonna make it on the mile. I can go tropix, Elliot's or Broccos and drink more for less. Then I asked for roti to eat with my curry goat and they did not have it even though it was on their menu....the waitress asked if I wanted rice with my curry goat. I would gave stayed home on Father's Day having to face such a disgraceful excuse for a Guyanese Restaurant. This place should not allow to be open on nautical mile in Freeport because they have NO restaurant standards. They are not ready for Prime Time. This was my second visit to this Restaurant and i was again impressed with the service and the taste and quality of the food, i am a big eater and the portion size was more that enough. My only regret was that they were out of the fried Breadfruit, i did not have a cocktail but the ones that were coming out appeared refreshing, i arrived early and there was only one person who served as Server, bus-person, greeter and bartender, she worked hard and with all the task she had to perform she had time to spread some Carribean Cheer, The next time you want a taste of the Islands and you are in Freeport drop in and give this place a try. read more
