I've passed Ben's crab for many times. It's right next to the highway. So be careful when you drive into it from the back. The Cajun rice with shrimp was amazing for only 19 dollars. They gave me so much shrimp and rice that I almost couldn't finish. And I'm someone who eats a lot. The catfish basket was amazing. The fish was fresh, juicy and tender. The seasoning was on spot. Every corner of the crust had some Cajun seasoning on it. The crab spring roll was a little bit hit or miss. I won't recommend it. The shell was a bit hard. But it's alright. My friend had the gumbo soup. She said it's amazing. It smelled amazing and the serving was great for like 8 or 9 dollars. They were super friendly. The environment is clean, bright and friendly. It was busy but with a good amount of loudness so people don't need to shout across tables to hear each other. The restaurant was also super spacious. Great for group hangout. There's also a bar. They also offer a lot of wine on their menu. We had 2 people ordered about 60 dollars. 30 max per person. Totally would recommend this place to anyone who loves seafood and Cajun flavor. I haven't visited this location in a while. I was craving a seafood boil and I was in the area. I gave this experience 4 stars because there was a smell when I entered the restaurant. It smelled like a wet mop near the entrance. Maybe they were cleaning prior to opening but hopefully they can address that. I made it in time for happy hour. I ordered a lemon drop martini and catfish basket to start. The catfish basket was well prepared. The lemon drop martini was on the strong side but it was good. For my entree I ordered Combo B which consisted of a whole lobster, shrimp, potatoes and corn in the Ben's Special Cajun Blend sauce. The portion was a great amount and I was satisfied with my meal. Everything was delicious and the boil was well prepared. It was flavorful. Next time I won't get a whole lobster though because I had some difficulty cracking some of the shell. I'll do lobster tails instead. Overall I had a good experience and I left there satisfied. The team provided excellent customer service and they were very helpful and polite. I'll be back soon. My best friend wanted to treat me to a seafood birthday dinner after our great beach day on Long Island and he recommended Ben's Crab. He's a true seafood lover so I trust his judgment. I've actually never heard of this establishment until he mentioned it. They opened their first location (Oceanside, Long Island) in 2017 and apparently it was a hit! They have expanded in Long Island since then by opening two or three other locations (and even opened one in the Atlanta GA area). Because of Ben's Crab, cajun seafood became Long Island's hottest new restaurant trend. Drinks: We didn't order any since we had plenty of adult beverages at the beach earlier. We did get water though :-) Food: I must say I really enjoyed it. We each had the bbq honey garlic wings and fries combo as our appetizer. Could it have been the endless cocktails we had on the beach earlier that heightened the taste of the food? Possibly! I mean we were starving and craving for this food. Whatever the case, those wings and fries were tasty and we enjoyed. As far as entrees, I chose their Lobster Mac & Cheese and my buddy chose their Shrimp Cajun Pasta. We both really enjoyed our entrees (evident from our plates being empty). My Lobster Mac was well seasoned, flavorful and creamy. Yum! We also appreciated the fact that our food didn't take long to come to our table. There was a DJ on site playing some great R&B/Hip Hop tunes. The space is large enough to dance. The place is located across the street from Hofstra University. When you first walk in it's a bit chaotic. The flow is all off and they instantly think you're there to pick up an order. It gives off dive bar vibes more than crab shack or a seafood boil restaurant. The food is average at best, the New England Clam Chowder is way too thin and was too sandy. The hush puppies had a unique twist with the sweet corn kernels which were nice but there wasn't enough onion or spices to hit home it was a hush puppy and not a round corn bread. The lobster roll was truly disappointing especially for the price tag a whopping $28 for basically knuckle meat and some tiny ass claw. The lobster was chopped so small and thin it dried out in the pan and was murdered in black pepper. Hands down the worst Lobster Roll I've ever had anywhere including supermarkets. For $13 dollars less continue down Hempstead turnpike and pull into Stew Leonard's where you will be given a over flowing buttery tender lobster roll on a soft potato bun filled over the rim with large chunks of Lobster and full size claws. The wait for the food was also long and the place wasn't packed. Wanted to enjoy a nice seafood meal but was let down big time by Ben's Crab. Four years since my last review/experience with this establishment and it's still amazing! From the food, to the service and ambiance. This isn't a seafood boil that is oily, greasy and flavorless. This seafood boil packs a punch of flavors, it's so delicious and for the month of December they're offering buy 1, get 1 snow crab legs and king crab legs. That is AMAZING! Literally 2lbs of seafood for the price of one. I tried their pomegranate martini, highly recommend. It was a creeper. The peach lemonade with vodka is also very delicious, you'd think it's lemonade with no alcohol but it has plenty. I've been to their other location in and the ambience, vibe and music was much better there. Came here for dinner around 5. It's a little confusing because a big sign says entrance in the back. But when you get to the back a sign says enter through another door. So we literally walked around the entire perimeter of the restaurant before entering. They have ample parking. We were greeted and sat right away. The place was clean and kind of gave diner/seafood shack vibes. Half the tables were empty. The server was nice enough but very pushy when trying to get our order. We kept asking for some time. We had already ordered drinks and apps. They have pictures on the menu so you can see what things look like. There was also things crossed off in marker on the menu. It was happy hour so most of the drinks as long as it didn't contain Hennessy was $9. I know times have changed when $9 is considered happy hour pricing. I got the pomegranate martini. It was excellent and authentically tasted like pomegranate. The martini glass it was served in was big and they filled it to the brim. My date got the blue Long Island. It tasted as it should. He also tried the pina colada. It was served in a Collins glass and that was unacceptable. It was tasty. All the appetizers come with fries and depending on how hungry you are, it could actually double as an entree. My date got the lemon pepper wing basket. The fries had Cajun seasoning, were hot and crispy. The lemon pepper wings were good as well. For entree he got the lobster Mac and cheese and I got the crawfish and shrimp boil. The Mac & cheese smelled good and it was topped with Parmesan Reggiano. Too much claw meat, and it was rubbery to me but he enjoyed it. The boil sauce was full of flavor. I got Ben's special sauce and requested spicy which is just one tier below their "fire". It wasn't hot at all so I guess I need to order fire to get some heat. You get 1lb of each shellfish, and three pieces of corn that could be one ear cut in 3 and three mini potatoes. Some of the crawfish was over cooked. But overall it was good and good portion. Could've gave 2 more potatoes. I didn't like that they automatically added gratuity for a party of 2. Especially since it didn't say that on the menu and that isn't standard. If I've said it once I've said it a million times, Bens just isn't it when it comes to seafood boils. Their seafood never taste marinated in the sauce and it always seems to be lacking. The last 2 orders I placed to go for crab boils didn't meet my expectations. My orders both times, the crabs are overcooked and sticking to the shell. I've never experienced this when I stayed in the restaurant to eat. I was highly disappointed in the size of the corn they give now. They literally take and ear of corn and cut it up into 4-5 pieces. The corn used to look larger in size in the bag. My daughters boil this time as well, had half a cluster. For $45 - the bag should at least have 2 -2.5 clusters. Super cute spot!!! Stopped by a friends House and we got hungry so we decided to look up some food and Ben's crab Louisiana Cajun style seafood popped up. We decided to stop by and check it out. The prices were decent a basket of fried shrimp with fries is $13. I decided to get a side of calamari as well fir $12. Since it is Covid we couldn't sit inside. But from the looks of it it looks like something that I would like to come back to. Definitely looks like a good vibe and the decor is similar to the beach. It's clean and bright with nautical inspired decor. A true crab shack which is kind of unusual in this part of the Island. Full bar was a surprising and welcome twist. The music was way too loud and more suited to an urban club. Private parking lot. If you're planning on ordering one of the mains or combos, prepare to get very messy. We were quite frustrated with the King Crab legs because the so-called cracker only squeezed the shells but didn't crack them open, and they don't have those tiny forks to help dig out all the crab meat. The lobster tails were easier to manage. The sauces (garlic butter and lemon pepper) were really good and medium spicy was plenty kickin'. Seafood was high quality. We ended up taking quite a bit home where we have better tools of the trade. I also had the Kobe sliders and these were excellent with some secret sauce and Bibb lettuce. I would skip the tomato slice though. Get 'em done medium. I had a friend from out of town visiting so I called another mutual friend of ours to come out and they suggested this place. This was the 1st time for all of us. On our way back from Tanger Outlets at Deer Park and stumbled on this gem. The space is well lit, decorated well and we got appetizers to share. There's plenty to chose from fried combo baskets, boils, and classic favorites. My favorite is the soft shell crab basket with the Cajun fries. Everything was good. The gumbo isn't classic gumbo and they should add to the menu that there is okra in the dish. Overall really good service and quick. I would even use this as catering space for a party of 50. Their food, while expensive, usually tastes great! I'd give food 4.3 out of 5. That said, I once order a crab legs combo for $50 and drove 22 mins to pick it up. Then I got home and began to feast- I got through eating a half corn on the cob, before I noticed something was awry... something was missing. It was the CRAB LEGS guys, yes, the main course was missing. I called to let them know and they told me to return to the restaurant with food. I did. The attendant, proceeded to feel up the bag to ensure that what we said was true, then the gave me a separate bag with just crab legs. I was upset. Upset at: 1) Having to travel an extra hour (especially since gas to too darn high); 2) The fact that they were feeling up the food then giving it back to me; 3) The fact that they made me bring back the defective food but then refuse make a new dish (with all the juice mixed together by the chef and such, you know- like I paid them for)- granted, I did start to eat a corn, but after them making a mistake, they should be willing to share in the damages. I mean, I paid $50+, and I spent time, gas, time, car mileage... all based on their promise to give me what I paid for- the FIRST time, but yet it is I who should settle for the short end of the stick? I asked them, if they couldn't make an accommodation, then maybe give me a coupon for a discount the next time... I mean, I've spent over $1,000 with then in the past 24 months. They should do something to show sincerity, right? Maybe $25 off the next meal? Something...Anything.... I asked nicely, and even apologized for asking, because I felt like it was the principal- you don't cause customers to suffer for your mistake, especially since I've been shopping here for so long. To conclude, they said "NO, we don't do that, you can return the food and you'll get a refund." I took that to mean- "we don't value you as a customer- you're little $50+ dollars is nothing to us, if you don't like how we treat you, you can leave..." So I took the refund, said 'thank you' with a pained smile on my face, and I left. As much as i'd enjoy their food in the past, alas, they are now in the past. read more

Fortunately Bens Crab was open for pick up orders and came through in the clutch. My wife placed the order and a just a short time later we were able to pick up and be on our way back home. This is my first time trying Ben's Crab. Unfortunately, it was take out due to Corona. It was good, except I think they should "throw in" the sausage and the corn wasn't crisp as it should be.
