Wow, what a find a hidden gem. I own 3 Samsung TV's a 60",55",& 43" I purchased them back in Nov 2014 They have worked will without issue until recently. My 55" screen went completely black, I did my own trouble shooting I couldn't figure out what was wrong. I called SAMSUNG CUSTOMER SERVICE I went through the whole troubleshooting with them and then they tried talking me into buying a new TV. They also referred me to someone around where I live but they were out of business so I found BEN'S TV Repair it turns out they're located five minutes from my me. My family purchased a TV on Amazon in 2021 and thankfully purchased the asurion protection with it. After two years the tv began to exhibit strange dark blobs, mostly visible on bright backgrounds. We contacted the insurance carrier to file a claim, and Ben's TV contacted me to facilitate the claim on behalf of Asurion. Arlene who works in the office is amazing. She contacted me many times while I was at work and I couldn't hear her well, we'd hang up and play phone tag, she'd reach me at home where my two year old became the reason we had a hard time communicating, yet regardless she was always polite and understanding, never made me feel rushed or pressured. She was very nice. She asked me to submit pictures for warranty purposes but the pictures weren't sufficient for Asurion. Bens Tv had two employees come out to take the proper pictures and videos needed to ensure they'd be approved. The gentleman that came in were friendly, respectful, and informative. They scheduled my tv to be picked up the following day. My only complaint is that I was told we'd receive the same Tv just newer model as a replacement, but that was not true. We received the value of our old tv via check after 15 days, Which, because it was purchased two years ago did not give us enough money to buy anything close to as nice as what we previously owned. But- regardless- I'm sure that was Asurion's decision and not Bens TV. I'd recommend Bens tv as they showed tremendous care in handling our claim, the staff is very knowledgeable, and you definitely can tell the owners pride themselves on taking care of their customers. Ben's TV Audio Video is fabulous! I took my 15 year old 50" Samsung Plasma TV to Ben because of intermittent startup. His team diagnosed it and replaced the power supply. Although it worked fine at the shop, when I got it home I found that the problem was still happening. Ben sent his team to my home to pick it up. After another diagnosis, he found it was an unusual problem. Although it is 15 years old, he repaired it and returned it at no extra charge! Now it's as good as new. I was so lucky to find Ben's TV. Sent him pictures of the TV issue and he gave me a couple of things it could be and a price to fix the TV. We had the TV picked up and it was able to be repaired and the price quoted was exactly what I paid. I received calls to let me know the timing of the repair and it was delivered back to us. 2 1/2 yrs ago bought Sony TV from Amazon with Asurion protection plan. TV went dark, contacted Asurion. Asurion sent Bens TV my information. Bens contacted me within an hour of me completing my claim with Asurion. Bens scheduled pick up of TV, and worked around my busy schedule. Bens shop is an hour from my home. Bens fixed the TV and returned the TV in the time frame they quoted. They quality tested TV and made sure all was working before the left. Great experience. As you read through the reviews of Ben's TV and Home Theater, it strikes you that everything is either 5 stars or 1 star. Initially, speaking with Ben, you get the sense of those that rave about this place. No nonsense. Laments with you. Friendly, likeable, gruff old-school guy. Offers an easier solution than you were prepared for, and in effect becomes a problem solver that you were hoping to find when you call any repair specialist. In our case, we needed a quote on a repair for a TV we bought from Best Buy, which came out of our box broken. Best Buy would not take it back (to say the least) and assistance was not much from way of higher levels or different contact methods for Best Buy, the credit card company, social media shaming, reviews or the Attorney General's office. In the end, Best Buy can say that because the box showed no signs of damage, it was post-sale damage and everyone can agree with them and you can have a paper-weight that costs over a grand sitting in a box waiting for resolution. But I digress. Ben was able to verify our TV was broken, and said he would check to see how much the part would cost and would be able to complete the repair. He offered to do the repair for very little money beyond the repair cost. I could see those 5 star reviews in my mind and I was very impressed with Ben. Just as importantly, he said he would provide one of the pieces of evidence our credit card company asked for in our dispute for the charge. A letter on his letterhead that said it was broken, what it would cost to fix and if possible, refute Best Buy's claim that because the box wasn't damage, we damaged the TV. He said he was happy to do it. So I followed through 2 days later, and he said he would call me back. He never called me back so I called the next day. He said he hadn't heard back from the manufacturer, and that I would have to come in to get the letter. The next day I left work early and stopped by Ben's TV as he suggested. He said he would have to do it later and would email it to me......um...why did you have me come in? Why didn't you just....ooooooh kay. No email the following day, and I called again. He says he can't talk and hangs up on me. So I give up on Ben and go to look for a person that merits one of those 5 star reviews, however I am now just about out of time for my response to the credit card company, and because of my dumbness in initially trusting Ben, somehow I am approaching the end of the 14 days I have to get a response, it is looking less and less possible that I would get it in time from anyone. So just as I am beating myself up for my trusting of Ben and his alleged TV repairs and am lamenting all of this, the very the next day he calls me and says he knows the part number. It is not available to order, but when it is, it will cost $389. Because of all I had been through he was willing to do the labor for just $75. BUT BEN....I REALLY need this quote and on a letterhead and with all the stuff about what is broken and how you said that you get stuff that looks fine from the box, but is broken, ALL THE TIME from the manufacturers, etc. This time, he had to move a bunch of things in storage so he couldn't get it to me until later when his son would help him. And again, nothing the next day. Or over the weekend. And on Monday when I call again, he recognizes the caller ID and says Lee, I'll get you the letter, and that no matter what I would have it before they left for the day. That was 3 days ago. Credit card company gets negative 500 stars. Best Buy guys a negative billion stars. I get a zillion and a half negative stars for not ditching Ben at the first sign of trouble and just get the damn quote/letter/refutal from somewhere else while there was still an opportunity, BUT... Ben's TV gets 1 star, because that is the lowest I can legit give them. Thanks for nothing Ben. read more

This place sucks. They don't know what they are doing and only make things worse. I had a Harman Kardan receiver that kept turning itself off. They assured me they could fix it, as they only work on high end equipment. Told me it would take 4 weeks. After 5 weeks of no update I began calling. First I was told it would be ready the next day as all it needed was a cleaning, which kind of made sense since I have cats. When I called two days later I was told they had to order a new circuit board. Four weeks later it was finally ready. I get it home and within an hour of use the same thing happens. I brought it back again and another four weeks later it had another new circuit board. They had supposedly had it turned on for 2 days with no issues by the time I picked it up. Get it home and it worked for three days before it had the exact same issue again. I called a factory shop in Woodridge and they told me it would be a minimum of $50 just to diagnose the issue. I ended up buying a new receiver instead of wasting more money on something 5 years old. Bottom Line: Don't use Ben's TV unless you want rude, lying people that don't know how to fix anything working on your stuff. Ben's wife is a REAL BITCH, and she's the first person you see when you walk in or speak to when you call. read more

AVOID DEALING WITH THIS SHOP AT ANY COST. If you get assigned to this shop for warranty repair, ask the manufacturer to reassign. I had the misfortune to get assigned to Ben's TV for warranty repair of my TV. All started OK with Ben evaluating the problem and promising to order repair parts. In 2 weeks the parts allegedly have not arrived. I went on a business trip for 10 days, and, upon my return, Ben promised to come perform the repair in another 3 days. That day he never called, and when I called he informed me that allegedly his truck broke down. Promised to come on Monday. On Monday he never called, when I called he promised to come in the afternoon. Never showed up and stopped answering my calls. When I called LG to complain, it turned out that Ben has NEVER ORDERED the replacement part. Ben lied to me for 4 weeks and made me miss 2 days at work !!! I surprised that his business exists. Had a claim with Direct TV for warranty coverage. Had to pay $50 for them to come out to present damage claim. A lady from here called the day prior to paid appointment and asked us to send picture of damage. Made special trip back home to take picture. After sending the picture, he said there was a crack in the screen and would not come out for the appoint I paid $50 for. They also advised the claims department that the screen was cracked based on the picture. However, there is NO crack and he would have seen it if he would have come out. A doctor does not do medical decisions based solely on pictures. A auto mechanic does not make auto repair decisions based on pictures but has to see the vehicle to diagnose the issue. How can you trust this repair place if they make a decision based on a picture that affect an insurance claim. Are they getting kickbacks for not doing the task they were paid to do? Why else would they not actually look at it and see it clearly did not have a crack. I will be paying a non corrupt tv repair company come out and look at the tv and will add there determination to this post. I closing, if I were you, I would avoid this place. I am so glad I found Ben's TV - I was actually referred to them by another repair service. The other serviceman said that ONLY Ben's TV is doing replacement of components on LCD TV's. I spoke to Ben personally on the phone, and he found a used replacement part for me. He called me several times to tell me about when the part was arriving and when his men could come out to fix the TV. The guys called ahead to confirm their arrival time and arrived during the window they had suggested. The guys were courteous and professional and confirmed that water damage had ruined the infrared sensor which they replaced with the used part. The TV works again, and the charges were reasonable. These folks can't be beat, just over the top helpful. Turned on my TV today that I bought from Tweeter, and nothing. No picture, then a red light stated blinking by the power button. (Lamp) Okay, I remember when I bought it they said, a yellow light will blink, this gives me about 40-50 hours of lamp left, that I need to call to have one sent, or since I bought the service contract, because of all the other things that can go wrong, it comes with one in home lamp change. So why no yellow light? When I called Tweeter service today, they said, sorry, we can't guarantee the light will go on. I said fine, then when can you be out, not till next Monday, yikes. So then I send, I looked in the book, looks easy can you send me one, then you can save your techs time, just overnight it, or can I pick it up. No to the overnight, no to the pickup. No, no, no, and no. So I remembered Ben's they've been around for over 40 years, worked on my mom's TV and many others I know of. They do in home service, sales and home theater. Today, they were so helpful, not only did they have the bulb, they took the burnt out one from the housing and put the new one in. This saved me over 50 bucks. I called them to see if they had the bulb before going out, and they called back. I waited on the repair a few minutes, got the chance to talk to Ben and his wife, she works the phones, etc up front. Everyone couldn't be friendlier. When it is time for me to buy a new TV or anything home theater, I'll go to Ben's. Imagine that, having parts on hand, for a basic repair. Remember the days, when we used to fix things? Brought my bulb home, popped it in, screwed the door back in place. Done! Yes, you can order the bulbs on line also, tiger direct has them, but then you have to pay for the housing, and if you get no warning, no TV. Plus, by taking it in and reusing the plastic housing you're saving the environment, why throw away a completely good housing, why use up a whole new one each time. read more

Had a rear project 46 inch TV. somehow the circuit board burnt out and called these guys to since I didn't want to fix the hole in my customized hole in the wall for this unit. It cost over 400 dollars for parts and labor and over a week for them to complete . After 4 months, and probably 5 times of watching the TV, it broke again. I called a different tv repair shop and they said that these guys just did a quick and bad soldering work using the wrong cables. Ben told me they had to replace some parts, which they did not do. If I had know it was over 400 bucks the first time, I would have just junked it and got a new TV. Anyways, my new TV repair guy suggested i thrash the thing since it was gonna cost me 300 bucks more for him to fix. Lesson learned.. not worth supporting your local neighborhood business if they are out to screw you. Don't go there!!! read more

My experience with Ben's tv was awesome!! I had bought the extended warranty from Walmart for my 60 " led tv. Ben's tv was the contractor to come out and fix it. They walked my wife through some preliminary tests on the phone and determined that the back lighting had gone bad. They took the tv on a Monday and told us it would be at least 7 days before we could get it back. Considering we live over an hour away from their shop I thought that was a pretty good turn around!! Well to our surprise we had our tv back first thing on Friday morning!! I hooked the tv back up and WOW!!! The picture was clearer and sharper than it ever was new from the store!!! These guys are great. When my 3 year old (just out of warranty, ugh) Samsung LCD TV decided to crap out on me, I took it to Ben's. They charged $30 to do a diagnosis on it, but that could be deducted from any repairs. Everybody was really friendly and Ben even showed me the faulty circuit board that was causing the problem. They called me by the end of the day and said they had the part in stock and would have it ready in the morning. Within 24 hours, I had my TV back and working again. read more

We needed a new lamp for our Samsung DLP TV. Well, instead of spending another $600-1000 on a new tv, we needed a new lamp for our DLP TV. I'm not one to be opening up TVs and inserting hands inside them, but when my wife called Ben's, told them our model tv, they said it wasn't too hard to do and would give us a little primer, and more importantly they are a local business that stocked the bulb we needed - and the actual Samsung brand - not a knock-off. So, we bought the lamp from Ben himself (even got to see an old photo of him back in the repair your tubes in the TV days)... brought the bulb home and within about 10 minutes our TV was as good as new! read more

This is an old-fashioned kind of business. TVs all stacked up all over the place, the Dad doing the work and the Mom holding down the front desk. I took a DVD player in that had a disk stuck in it and they took it apart and diagnosed the problem (the disk from the library had a piece of tape on it that clung to the top of the player), phoned me about what the problem was and when I picked it up, said there would be 'no charge' and that I should only "remember them when I had something else that needed to be repaired." Had an issue with my DLP television, I did some searching on google, and figured out I most likely needed to replace the DLP chip. Just the sort of DIY project that I would have attempted two years ago, that would most likely cause a power grid disruption to my section of Chicago. Not the best way to make friends in my new city. A man should know his limitations. Now, you'd think this would be an easy mission to accomplish right? Call a place, have them send someone out...done and done. Oh no yelp friends, I made at least 11 calls. One guy gave me a quote, told me he had the part, showed up at the appointed time, 7am (!) without the part...then said he wanted a cash deposit so he could go "buy the part". Don't let the door hit you in the butt on they way out of my house. Another guy I called, decided I had no idea what I was talking about and lectured me about the inner workings of a television, interwoven with right wing conspiracy theories. He was an angry man. All it took was one call to Ben's. They had the part in stock (DLP chip), gave me a quote that was what I was expecting to pay after doing my research, and they sent a technician out the next day. I noticed small image burns on my 65" LG OLED tv. I have a premium service plan through hhgregg, so I contacted them about my issue. Ben and staff went out of their way to help us when our newly installed tv stopped working. They came and picked it up for a fee, which was reasonable, and kept us updated on what needed to be done. We needed a new"board"and Ben explained why a refurbished one would be best. After trying it for 2 days in his shop, we got it back today and it works perfectly.
