We took our dog in for the yearly blood work and the Lepto vaccine. My dog got ill that evening, restless, shivering, panting all night. We could not sleep at all. We told the vet after the second night of the same symptoms. No word from the vet. 6 days now and we still have the same symptoms, plus now I have severe kidney pain. Now I'm inclined to think the vet infected my dog with Lepto and through the cleaning up of the mess he has created of our house, I believe I have Lepto now. I would not recommend this vaccine administered by this vet. I'm on an antibiotic now and still need to get my dog on one in hopes he survives this horrible episode. He was perfectly healthy when we went in for his annual. We would have been much better to not have gone to this vet. read more

I had an emergency with my Dobie puppy at 7am. My regular vet is closed on Fridays so I called Benson An Hospital. They got me in by 8 am and after a small surgery my dog was home by 2pm. The estimate scared me but the charges came in with a substantial savings. It's clean, reasonable pricing and employees are wonderful to work with. I was impressed with everything about them. I have used BAH many times. The last visit was just to have my dog give a urine sample to check for infection. After waiting for an hour and 15 minutes the receptionist said they had over booked and we couldn't be seen. They offered an appointment the next day, but I had driven 30 miles for the appointment. I said I'd see someone in Tucson. read more

A recent member of the Benson Community when my Poodle Mix decided to attack a pit bull mix. The another dog defended herself and my dog was bit from the top of his head to below his chin. I had already been burned by another vet service and drove to BAH asap. They took me in as an emergency and had to operate twice on him. It took 2 months but the staff was patient; the doctors sat with me and explained all my options; and my dog liked them too. These people are terrific and really care about animals. read more

I wish I had read the reviews prior to going to this Animal Hospital.l I was so elated to find Dr. Toering at Benson Animal Hospital, she seemed to be a wonderful person. Well that sure changed. It appears the staff is the problem, but that may be the management blaming the staff for their actions. I have a dog rescue in the area and I had taken two puppies and one dog in for emergency treatment. They appeared to work with us and they were caring and nice about the dogs situations. We saved two and one was beyond saving, not their fault, it came in really sick from a government shelter. I brought in a puppy, she had a very injured leg. I was rudely told by the staff the vet said they didn't do credit (I never asked or expected them to). The staff said Dr. Toering said that, Dr. Toering said she never made that rude statement. I was told by Dr. Toering the puppy needed emergency surgery, approximately $2500 to $3000 up front and go to an orthopedic surgeon in Sierra Vista immediately. I didn't have $3000 that day. However, I could take the puppy to Phoenix on Saturday for a 7:30 am appointment, it was 10 on Thursday when I was at Benson Animal Hospital. It was insinuated that it would be cruel to wait that long for the puppy to see the Doctor in Phoenix. THE STAFF TOLD DR. TOERING THAT I SAID EUTHANIZE! That is A BOLD FACE LIE! That couldn't have been farther from the truth. I had an appointment in Phoenix. However, if I signed the puppy over to the the, she could get emergency care right away. I thought it was weird, they couldn't help me, only a specialist in Sierra Vista could help me, but they could help the pup if I gave her up. I agreed, my concern was for the puppy. NO OTHER options were mentioned, it was surgery or euthanasia. Of course, I didn't want the pup to die, although I had the appointment in Phoenix, but according to them, it was too long to wait 40 hours. So, I gave the pup up. I am an animal person, I should have said absolutely not, but thinking of the puppy and the emotions of the day. The pup was in pain and I thought I was doing the right thing for the puppy, no, I was giving up my puppy due a misdiagnosis and a few people conspiring to steal my puppy. Subsequently, I found out, THE PUP NEVER HAD OR NEEDED SURGERY. They simply wanted the dog and scared me into thinking the best thing for the dog was to give her to them. This was my pet, my family member, posting the day before and announcing to my friends that she was my latest family member. SO PLEASE: Get a second opinion, they are not correct on their diagnosis's, the staff will lie to cover it up (call me, I will give you more information). They also say in their previous complaints, they don't know who the complainants are, my name is Carrie Wright,602-316-8919, When I read the previous complaints, they are the office procedures told to me on the phone. I used to go there 9 years ago. I left them a while back since I was not happy with a diagnosis and wanted a 2nd opinion. I took an x-ray they took of my dog with me to show to a different vet. When I chose to follow a different vets advice I never returned as a patient nor did I return the X-ray. They wanted it back and called for it and I told them that I paid for it; it is mine. Their reply was: no it is ours. I had the receipt for the X-ray! Recently when I heard that they ownership changed I called to see If I could be a patient again. They finally picked up Saturday hours, which was convenient for me since I am not retired, and work during the week. I called and after being on hold for 15 minutes they came back and said sorry our computers have you as no service. I asked if this could be resolved as the disagreement was with the previous owner and occurred 9 years ago. They said they would get back to me. Well they called me back yesterday with an answer. The Benson Animal Hospital must still live during the McCarthy years. When they called today they told me their policy of no service has a new policy. If you are no service you are ineligible for their services period. (So how was the new from earlier in the week?) I was blacklisted because I wanted to get a second opinion on whether or not our dog Cassie needed an expensive exploratory surgery??? I took the X-ray we paid for to another vet and did not return the x-ray because I liked the second opinion we got. Cassie lived a solid happy 15 years, which is normal for a dog, her size. That was about 5 years more after that visit. When I called back to confirm the message left on my phone the manager was a bit clipped and then said no service but we can give you the name of another vet if you wish. I hung up and am disgusted. Looks like I have to drive twice the distance for a vet with the same office hours. read more

This place is extremely dissappointing. I have had a negative experience with this clinic and so has members of my family. It seems their only concern is money and not the welfare of pets. I had gotten a pup who had gotten very sick after having him for 2 days. According to info on the web, its possible it was parvo. I called this place, told them the situation. They told me I would have to pay $75 to get him in that day as an emergency visit. I couldnt afford that, but didnt want the puppy to die from parvo in case that is what it was. So I had no choice. I took him in, and the entire hour i was there no other appointments were scheduled for that morning. I was the only one there the entire time. So no reason to charge $75 if no other appts were coming in. The tests came out positive for parvo. To save his life, i was quoted over $800. I told them I'm sorry but i don't have those kind of funds. What do you know, when they adjusted the bill to over $500. Same thing, no funds available. Would you believe they then quoted me $220 to save his life? What is happening here? Its called greed, and "Lets see how much we can squeeze out of her first." I then was told to come back at 9:30 a.m. the next morning for a checkup. Again, another $20 bucks. I received a call from a very rude individual who said my appt was at 9:00 a.m. Well i have ears and can hear pretty well and i am absolutely certain i was given a 9:30 am appt. I was treated as if i was a liar. I will not return. My family also had a recent negative experience with this clinic as well. They had a dog that was 17 yrs old, who had a stroke, couldn't walk anymore, was completely bed ridden, and in enormous pain. Its clear, the suffering had to end. They took him in to be put down. This was absolutely devastating to them. This dog was their baby. They wanted him put down and cremated. It was clear that he indeed needed to be put down. So imagine the confusion when the vet said we need to give him an exam and it would cost this much. ?????? Why give an exam to a dog who is 17 yrs old, immobile and in pain and is about to be put down and cremated? Again, greed. Lets see if we can get a little extra out of this person first. This is a shame. They said forget it, this is a scam, and took the dog to All Critters on 4th St. which did a very good job and did not request an exam first. Because obviously that is absurd. Take your beloved pets elsewhere. Its not about their care here, its about money, and the staff is incredibly rude. What a shame. read more

We had never used this animal hospital before. When I called and told them about our dog Sadie, and how we felt, after much struggling, that the time was right to put her down, they worked her in that day. The staff was kind, compassionate and professional. The bill was more than fair for services received. That was 2 weeks ago. Today in the mail, I received a card, hand signed by each employee who helped us through this ...a card saying a donation in Sadie's name had been made to Helping Hands for Pets, and a clay plaque of Sadie's paw. We were more than happy with this Hospital and their caring staff. read more
