I've had ornery tattoo artists in the past, but Matt is patient, a lot of fun, and also a real nice guy. The price was fantastic. I come from NYC where tattoos are $200 an hour, sometimes more. It was nearly half that here. One hell of bargain considering the quality of work, expertise, and relaxed environment. Also I was very happy to see a very clean and sanitary work space. Matt took great care and doing everything by the book. I highly recommend this place. Considering there's not a lot of tattoo shops in the vicinity of Storrs, it's great to know that the one that is, is really great.

I even have a short follow-up scheduled three weeks after my appointment so they can take a look at my ink after it has healed and to go over areas that may need some touching up. I get a real kick out of talking with people who are passionate about what they do, so my hours in the chair with Kevin just flew by. I'm a relative noob (this was only my second tattoo), so I'm sure I must have been asking the most ridiculous questions, but everyone in the shop seemed eager to share their expertise. I have had a few different artists over the years, a couple I stayed with for numerous pieces. Lou is the one I'll be staying with now. He is an insanely talented artist as you can see from my photo (and the rest of his portfolio), with a really wonderfully easy-going personality to boot. His hand is not only skilled but very gentle. I went in slightly nervous after having already done a piece on my spine years ago which hurt like a mother F-er, and he proved I had nothing to worry about... 2.5 hours of sitting pretty with no issues at all. He went above and beyond in every way during my first visit. I could not be happier with how the tattoo came out or how the whole experience was overall! This was my first experience under the gun, and the staff there was incredibly supportive and knowledgeable. The woman at the front desk (I didn't get her name, sadly,) spent a long time talking about placement with me, transferring my design to paper in different sizes and laying them out on my arm to see where they would fit best, how to get the best layout for what I wanted, etc. Because my work was rather simple, I was able to meet with an artist named Lisa immediately and discuss the process further and review some of my options. (Side note - I had already been to another tattoo place in town that morning, and I just hadn't liked the vibe of the place. I'm sure there's nothing wrong with the other shop, as they've got a great reputation. It just wasn't a good fit for for me, and I wanted to make sure I was in good hands for a major step like this one.) Lisa was available to do the tattoo right then, and the entire appointment took just under an hour. I am terrified of needles, so I had anticipated having someone sit on my chest to get me through the ordeal. Not only didn't it hurt, it wasn't even vaguely uncomfortable; I was actually disappointed when the whole thing was over. I'm sure a large part of this was due in fact to Lisa's skill with the gun as well as her ability to keep me talking while the tattoo was being done. I'm an English teacher, and we probably spent 90% of our time together talking about short stories that we love. In all, I could not have had a better experience. At my appointment, I brought in a picture of what I was looking for; he then took my picture and created a drawing for what my tattoo could look like. The pain was to be expected but the end result made it totally worth it. Now I completely understand when people say "once you get a tattoo, you'll keep wanting more". Can't wait to add into my arm band and make it more beautiful!
