I did this as a little birthday present to myself. I've got my ink done by Justin, and it was one of the best experience I've ever had for getting a tattoo. He prefers not to talk which is okay in my book because I don't like talking while I am getting inked. He puts on a movie as a distraction which is also very helpful for me to forget the pain that I have endure for a trypanophobic like myself. Plus, the guy was very supportive when I had the urge of passing out at one point. I honesty think it was really worth the almost $500 for the ink job he done. I just finished my first cover up (1980's tribal ankle mistake) with Dean B. Here and he was amazing. I gave him ideas of what I wanted and colors I liked and told him to go with what would work for the coverup and what he thought would look good. I sent him some picks and he had some stencils done before I even got there. Then hand drew the rest on. My ankle looks amazing and the color is bold and beautiful. I had to do this tat in two trips (since I wimped out and couldn't take anymore needles on my ankle and foot bones and tapped out after 3 1/2 hrs) anyways the next appt he finished in an hr. And did some minor touch up on the other side and then fixed my not so straight stars on my stomach. The shop is clean and the people there are friendly, mouthy and funny. I will preface by saying I was originally attracted to Body Graphic's from seeing great work and hearing about rave reviews about Dean and Gypsy. Please note this review is directed at Justin and Theressa's lack of professionalism and in no way implies Justin's artistic ability is flawed. Trust it takes quite a bit of motivation for me to spend time to write a review unless I feel it is factual and may help others contemplating getting a tattoo. Summary of facts, no skewed emotional opinions. You make your own determination. 1) I called BG (Body Graphics) and spoke to a nice receptionist (not Theresa, not saying Theresa isn't nice, but that this receptionist was not her) and she quickly advised and set up a consultation with Justin for first step with Justin. 2) I drive roughly 45 minutes from Bristol to have Justin come from backroom to quickly ask what I wanted. When an ill timed important call came through and I needed to answer the phone quickly to let them know I would call them back shortly, Justin snapped at me telling me he didn't have time. Literally, I picked up and said I couldn't talk and would call right back, which took all but 5 seconds. He ran back to his room and told me to make a deposit with the receptionist. She was very nice and said he did great work. I should have trusted my instinct that this first interaction would be a sign of things to come, but thought it was worth going through the process if Justin's work was good enough to see past his personality. She confirmed with Justin what time was best for him, and we booked the appointment. She advised to send an email with the tattoo details to the BG email. 3) I send an email a full week before the appointment, with excitement to get my cover up completed. Granted this email was detailed with reference images for inspiration, but I clearly stated I trusted his talent and vision to help complete a finalized design. 4) After taking time off of work to allow maximum healing time, I arrive the day of the appointment 5 minutes early. Justin comes to see me and will not look me in the eyes and tells me my appointment was cancelled without providing an explanation. He said Theresa cancelled it. I ask what happened and he fails to elaborate and simply states another appointment was made in place of mine and rips up my deposit slip ensuring no charges would occur. I asked him to cancel the other appointment seeing that it was their error and I set up the appointment further in advance, and he said it doesn't work that way. He says maybe they will give me a gift certificate or something but that he wouldn't cancel the other appointment. 5) Theresa and I correspond and she nicely apologized for the situation and offered to give me a gift certificate. She said the first receptionist failed to input my appointment. I explained that her explanation was conflicted as Justin blamed Theresaer for canceling it and also explained the first girl had to go back twice to confirm the appointment and gave me an appointment card and held the deposit on my credit card. I appreciated her willingness to potentially make amends for the situation, but explained I would go back for Dean and would never go back to Justin considering his conduct. I asked how much she had in mind for the gift certificate amount and she never corresponded with me back. 6) I followed up with her 3 weeks later and thanked her in advance for looking to turn my negative experience into a positive one, asking her again what the next steps would be regarding the gift certificate, and although she read the message 3 days later, she never responded. This summarizes my experience with Justin and Theresa. After being in customer service for many years I've learned that you could take a initial negative experience and turn into an opportunity to make a happy, satisfied life long customer by taking accountability and and correcting the situation. Justin and Theresa blamed other people and never took accountability for the wasted time and gas money I spent to go there. No corrective action was taken to meet us half way, of which I was very reasonable and understanding. Although Theresa initially offered to make amends with the gift certificate for me to get work done by Dean, she failed to follow through for whatever reason, thus fueling my motivation to write this review. My intention is not to sling mud, but to provide both Justin and Theresa valuable feedback for the future. Thank you. read more

After researching many artists in my area (DC-NOVA) and not finding any with a style I liked, I decided to look in CT because I was going to be in the area for the holiday visiting family. Justin's work (@Markureart on instagram) is incredible. His line work is impeccable. I emailed and Theresa responded super quick and set up the holiday appointment. I had an idea of what I wanted and sent inspiration photos to Justin and his drawing came out more beautiful than I could have imagined. The shop (and Justin) is super clean. (I joked with him about how many gloves he goes through in a day.) The tattoo came out exactly as his sketch looked and it's healing nicely. I came to Body Graphics by the recommendation of my son, who had his second tattoo done there. After researching the various artist's portfolios and then after meeting her, I knew that GYPSY was the best choice for me. My tattoo is a memorial tattoo, in honor of my daughter who was killed the month before I came to Body Graphics. Gypsy spent a lot of time listening to me about what was important, why I was doing the ink, who my daughter was and got the idea of what I thought that I wanted. When I came back in, she had designed body art for me that was WELL BEYOND EXPECTATION!! She had TRULY LISTENED to my stories about my daughter and had incorporated something that I had told her about my daughter's last words in person to me, right into the design! She even used colors that I had mentioned my daughter loved...and captured the essence of my daughter's spirit. I though that I had wanted a small robin in a nest on my ankle (My daughter's name is Robyn), but I ended up with a beautiful robin in flight between my shoulder blades, carrying the infinity symbol, with the number 2 "squaring" it. (Robbie's last words to me were that she loved me infinity times infinity squared) My design is phenomenal! Gypsy did an exquisite job! The "pain" of the actual inking was minimal; she had prepared me well for it, and even had a stuffed elephant (I had told her how I love elephants) for me to squeeze, "in case". The shading, shadows, colors still look fresh after 2 years and I can't count the compliments that I have gotten on my memorial tattoo. If there was a rating higher than 5 stars for the individual artist, I would certainly use more of them. Five stars doesn't even do justice to the experiences I've had at body graphics. The lady's who work the front desk are super professional, friendly, and helpful. The vibe from when you walk in to when you finish your tattoo is great. Personally I've had Lisa as my tattoo artist and she is fantastic. The work I received is exactly what I had envisioned and she is great about getting right back to any email with questions before or after. I had an appointment for my 60th birthday. The tattoo itself was not as important as marking the day with a special activity. I was really looking forward to it. I had a 30 minute drive over for a 1pm appointment. Got there plenty early. The door opens and the young lady at the front desk tells me that the tattoo artist called in sick at 12:40. I told them about it being my 60 birthday. No offer of having a different artist take care of it. They offered to reschedule, but I preferred to cancel. I don't want a free tattoo or a discount. I just want them to know how disappointed I am. They won't be getting any more of my business. read more

This is my first Yelp review, but I felt that I had to create an account just so I could recommend Body Graphics to anyone who is thinking about getting a tattoo. This was my first experience under the gun, and the staff there was incredibly supportive and knowledgeable. The woman at the front desk (I didn't get her name, sadly,) spent a long time talking about placement with me, transferring my design to paper in different sizes and laying them out on my arm to see where they would fit best, how to get the best layout for what I wanted, etc. Because my work was rather simple, I was able to meet with an artist named Lisa immediately and discuss the process further and review some of my options. (Side note - I had already been to another tattoo place in town that morning, and I just hadn't liked the vibe of the place. I'm sure there's nothing wrong with the other shop, as they've got a great reputation. It just wasn't a good fit for for me, and I wanted to make sure I was in good hands for a major step like this one.) Lisa was available to do the tattoo right then, and the entire appointment took just under an hour. I am terrified of needles, so I had anticipated having someone sit on my chest to get me through the ordeal. Not only didn't it hurt, it wasn't even vaguely uncomfortable; I was actually disappointed when the whole thing was over. I'm sure a large part of this was due in fact to Lisa's skill with the gun as well as her ability to keep me talking while the tattoo was being done. I'm an English teacher, and we probably spent 90% of our time together talking about short stories that we love. In all, I could not have had a better experience. I've gotten 2 tattoos from Justin. The first one was a 3.5 hour photo realism tattoo, which included extremely intricate detail and shading. He was understanding as an artist. When requested to change the size or location of the tattoo, he understood very well, which showed excellent customer service, and always made me feel comfortable with him. Although the tattoo didn't hurt too bad (drawn on back of shoulder), I was given the time to get up and stretch if I was ever uncomfortable. As far as design, Justin has great line work, and detail, and takes time to do careful shading, which is why I went back to him for my second tattoo. The shop is clean, and the girl at the front desk is friendly and makes you feel comfortable whether you're getting your first tattoo or 100th tattoo. That's what I liked most about Body Graphics. I went in for a tattoo as a birthday gift to myself. I have 4 small tats already but this one was going to be the biggest of the bunch. I was equal parts anxious and excited. Lisa was the artist assigned to me and after I emailed her what I wanted, she set about making the stencil. It came out bigger than I initially anticipated but I also recognized that some of the detail that I appreciated in the closed fist would be gone if I asked her to shrink it, so I said ok. I told her I was nervous and she immediately set about engaging me in random conversation to keep my mind off the needle. She also checked in every now and again to make sure I wasn't too uncomfortable. In the end, as you'll see below, I was super happy with the end product! I have had my tattoos done here and was extremely happy with the outcome so for Christmas I decided to take my mom for her first one. My mom was quick to just get it done so there was only one tattoo artist available. She was new to the tattoo community by a few years, and I would have rather had my mom wait but we went ahead and had her do it. She didn't tell my mom the proper way to care for it and even though I tried to tell her, she chose to listen to the artist. My mom decided to have it touched up and she felt the work was half hearted and quick. We asked her to just shade her flowers with blue and instead it took up most of the white that my mom wanted to be seen. My mom should NOT have to say oh well I'll live with it. We even showed the photo of how she wanted the shading. I understand some artists want their take on a tattoo and don't want to an exact replica, but my mom is 71, getting her first tattoo, and the picture is what she wanted. The artist was tipped for 15 minutes of work even though it wasn't done correctly. I am extremely disappointed. I know every new artist needs a chance, but for those who don't care what they get, that is when you go to them. I spent a lot of money for something I was originally told was bout half the cost and not the quality, even it was a simple design. She took her time to get as much as she could, cost wise, and then barely took the time to retouch it. I honestly wished I went with my gut feeling and had my mom wait for a more experienced artist like the guy that had done mine. A lesson learned. My mom doesn't know if she would get another, but she said she wouldn't want to go back there even though I know there are great artists there. read more

I went here back in 2009 and got my first and so far only tattoo done by Gypsy on the recommendation of a friend that had been to her around 6 times. It was a great recommendation. I could not be happier. The shop was much nicer and cleaner than a lot of other shops I'd looked at. Gypsy was very knowledgeable and helpful when it came to designing my tattoo and telling me that the size i'd been thinking of wouldn't work. her work was well worth the higher price.
