This place is a tiny walk up door. We tried the beef bento, chicken bento and the Indonesian satay. The chicken and beef each come with one skewer of meat (large pieces) and the satay comes with three skewers. I try to go here every Tuesday for the spicy eggplant and tofu special. Its vegan friendly. You can fill your belly for under $10 here and theres not many places where you can do that these days. I've tried Bento East twice now and I have to say, I am not impressed! Super bummed because it always smells SO good! Each time, staff seemed a bit too busy and that we were inconveniencing them when we came to order! Also, the pot stickers were soggy and soft. The meat inside tasted just fine, but not good enough to help get past the gummy outside texture. Yikes. Not sure how this got 4 stars on Yelp. I can't think of a positive thing to say about the place. This place is literally a hole in the wall - only two people fit inside to order. You must take it to go or sit outside on plastic chairs. The chicken potstickers were mushy, not pan-fried, and only had teriyaki sauce, not any special pot sticker sauce. Best deal on food in Ashland. $6 flat for a large bento with white or brown rice, meat or tofu, etc. 50 cents more for peanut sauce or coconut curry. The chicken is grilled and skewered. You get a lot of food for the money and I always take it right across the street to Lithia Park! The staff is nice, outdoor seating, great location, all kinds of complementary sauces. My only complaint is that sometimes the chicken is a little weird and rubbery. Oh and they only accept cash. Everything else is awesome and I will always go back. Customer service was good - I called before going in, and was pleasantly surpsrised, because I've had a lot of bad customer service experience in downtown Ashland. Chiken over rice with teryaki sauce was yummy - will definitely have it again. The place is dingy and very small, there is only enough room to order your food, but who cares when you can eat right out in Lithia Park across the street?... Prices are very decent for this area, and food is ready to go, so it's super-fast to order, pay and eat. read more

This tiny restaurant on Granite Street serves light lunches that are inexpensive and tasty. Mostly protein and starch, there are spicy veggie potstickers and a tofu plate, Generally we get the chicken or pork filled steamed buns (dim sum) but the teriyaki chicken plate is good if you want a more substantial meal. A porch fronting the restaurant has picnic tables and benches for eating under shelter but in the open air. The adjoining sandwich shop has been replaced by a tea shop that shares the porch seating. read more

Good food plus cheap! They have special menu every friday. The Indonesian red curry over rice is my favorite, with tofu and vegetable. The peanut sauce also the best in town. Good for vegetarian too as they have the spicy eggplant too. Yummm!!!! It is in a very small place, that is why the food only for to go. Or you can sit outside with the chairs that they provide. Love the little local spot. It is the peanut sauce that makes the meal and I love the brown rice option. Potstickers, steam bun, dim sum make it fun.
