We ordered the Chicken katsu, Three star roll, Black widow roll, Scallop roll. The food was delicious. I really don't have any major complaints about the food itself. The chicken katsu was yummy, nice and crisp. The sauce it came with was good but our server James recommended their house made sesame dressing on the side with it and he was right...so good! I really liked the three star roll. It was nice and light. I love fresh lemon slices in sushi rolls which is why we ordered this one. I do think it would be even better if the rind were left on the lemon slices. Other than that it was really good and I'd totally order it again. The black widow roll. Fried soft shell crab with unagi. Soo delicious. The scallop roll was good. The scallop was really smooth and fresh. The only other things I noticed were: The wasabi had a bluish tint to it, which to me indicates food coloring so we did not eat it which was too bad because we love wasabi and it would've been so good with the rolls. I wish they would use a different wasabi without the blue coloring. I think a bell on the front door would be good to let employees/sushi chef that customers have arrived. Because its kinda awkward to stand there at the entrance waiting. So at least if there was a bell then the sushi chef could greet right away and let people know to sit. I also think some sort of electric doorbell that is attached to the front door but dings in the back outside to let servers outside know that customers have arrived so they can check back sometime. Because I know the outdoor back patio seating is much busier than indoor dining. When we arrived inside, we stood for quite some time before the sushi chef noticed and greeted and told us we can sit anywhere. And then it took awhile until someone came to bring menus because there were no servers inside. There was a lady who was already sitting at a table inside when we arrived and she didn't get a menu until we did. So she waited quite a bit. *and by the way these are not complaints about the servers at all* I know that it was busy outside and that people rarely choose to sit inside. And there's no bell or anything to let the servers outside know that there's people inside, so absolutely no fault to the servers. I just think there needs to be a better system put in place by management. Like if there were 2 servers, have them both dedicated for outside but as soon as indoor dining customers arrive, maybe 1 of the servers serves inside and then also helps outside when they're free? As a past server myself, these are just things I noticed and I think would make the business run smoother and make it easier/less hectic for the servers. Lastly, I think music inside would be really great. It's super quiet and kinda awkward vibes. Especially when customers come in and wait and it's silent. Anyways, the food was great and our server James was fantastic. Did a really great job despite being so busy. Super friendly, personable, and made great recommendations. We would come back. Service was Excellent! 5 Stars. Food choice of the usual Japanese meal staples of Wasabi with sushi meals, or Beef Teriyaki is missing. It was also strange to add Korean dishes as well but I'm sure it tastes fine. I ordered the Poke and it was pretty good. I was happy with the portion and the amount of ahi tuna as well as the seasoning. There was seating outside by a creek but there was a large fire happening nearby, possibly in Medford and hot as heck and people were still out there. My benchmark to drop a 2 star review is if you're at risk for ordering a dud meal. With a menu as thick as a Tolstoy novel, the restaurant struggled with perfecting each dish, especially in a dinner rush situation. Let's start with the positives. The sushi side of the kitchen was their best feature. The sushi chef had flair and the rolls came out plated well with excellent presentation. We ordered the dragon flame roll and the volcano roll. The dragon roll was the better choice, with the spicy mayo and jalapeño accents lifting the experience. However, the sushi rice wasn't seasoned with enough rice vinegar, and that showed in the volcano roll where the flavor of plain rice intersected with the under-seasoned cooked fish. A lot of plain, mushy texture. The hot items from the kitchen were the bigger problem. They had several Korean items listed, which are some of my favorites. I was expecting the spicy pork entree to deliver that kick of flavor you normally expect, but it was more of a salty/soy experience intermixed with softened stir-fry vegetables. It tasted like a dish you would throw together at home on a weeknight. By far the lowest point of the meal was the chicken ramen. It was so flavorless and unseasoned that you could taste the local tap water in the broth. My wife commented that she would have preferred instant noodles. The service was very slow. One server doing his best to cover the entire restaurant at dinner rush. We also received an awkward apology from the waiter because he was instructed by his manager to skip our table and take care of a few others who had arrived after us. It initially felt alarming and discriminatory, but it ended up being the least of our issues. Overall, I think this restaurant's menu is its own worst enemy. They need to simplify and perfect a smaller number of dishes and get the flavors where they need to be. If you need to dine here, I would recommend sticking with the most popular sushi items. That could end up being a 3 or 4 star experience. read more

Great Japanese food on the Ashland Plaza. You can choose the ambience you want - inside the booths in the restaurant or outside by Ashland Creek. There are umbrellas and shade trees. Listening to the Ashland creek water is calming. Service is quick - miso soup is warming. I highly recommend the "avocado bomb" . Amazing food, beautiful front of house, and some of the most incredible service I have ever seen. Little Tokyo in Ashland was closed for quite a while ago, but after some remodeling, reopened in the Spring last year. A friend and I wandered by a few days before opening while they were soft launch testing, and chatted with one of the staff who told us their story. We promptly planned a group dinner for before film festival a week later. We were blown away by the quality of the food! Months later, tonight I went with a group of 7 which later turned into 9 for a special celebration for a friend. The initial group of 7 showed up around an hour before close, probably the closest typical large group timing to rude we could have been unintentionally. Our other 2 showed up 10 minutes before the kitchen closed and the staff were more than happy to take their order and serve! We snuck off to order a surprise dessert for the celebration, and they offered to bring out cheesecake on the house! After our night dining with them, the server even came out and took a photo for us (he just happened to know how to use a disposable film camera as well which was a bonus ) Tonight I had a Tokyo combo (rainbow roll and 6 nigiri) alongside a miso soup and another order of Scallop nigiri. That scallop nigiri (picture below) is without a single doubt in my mind, the best piece of Japanese cuisine I have consumed in my entire life. I spent $60 on my meal (which is on the pricier side but it absolutely shows in quality of what you get) and felt zero hesitation tipping our incredible server 25% on top of the base gratuity. Seven tables with one small bar and a sole waitress and very clean inside located at the heart of the beautiful Ashland downtown offering multiple sushi rolls and bentos teriyaki style! One of the best bentos that I had since Japan trip with Spicy chicken and Korean Bulgogi with tempura and California rolls. The rice is well cooked and rest of the offerings are very good. The service was so fast and house Sake was hot and good. The seven tables were all full but our foods came out all at once and quickly. The prices were reasonable! Not sure why this place is rated so highly. It's pretty mediocre We were starving on Tuesday at 11:30 after a hike to the reservoir. About 60 percent of Ashland restaurants are closed on Tuesdays and the few that are open don't open until noon. So at 11:30 we walked in and we're greeted nicely. It was neither warm nor abrasive but I felt like the hostess would have preferred that we weren't there. We ordered a few bento boxes, a roll, an amber ale and an ice tea. The beer that came out was an ipa and not what I ordered but not a big deal. The second thing to arrive was the Michigan roll. It was quickly prepared and not uniformly cut. This made it a little harder to eat but not the end of the world. The rice on the roll was a little warm likely because we were there right when they opened and this was a bit odd. But we were so hungry we ate it anyway. The last items out were the bento boxes. I ordered chicken katsu as my toddler daughter will usually share it with me. The bento box was mediocre and the chicken Katsu was not good. My wife ordered spicy pork and the veggies were mushy and the pork was tough. read more

Stopped in Ashland while traveling home to California and stoped for lunch. Sushi in Oregon was never on my to do list but we gave it a try. It was hands down one of the best, possibly the best sushi meal I have ever had. Poke Salad, Lithia Roll, and Avacodo Bomb are all amazing. Side note...they allowed me to add wakame and cucumber salad to my Poke Salad and for my taste it took that dish from a 9 to a 14 out of 10. We stopped by Little Tokyo on a Sunday at 5:30pm. I appreciated that the server was honest with us on the wait time being long as they had one chef working that day. We decided the wait wasn't a big deal. Due to COVID there was no indoor seating, but we got to sit outside next to the river which was better than sitting indoors! I don't know of any other sushi places with outdoor seating. The staff was really nice, they were on top of cleaning and water refills. The food was really good too. We had the black widow roll, Shakespeare, hamachi sashimi (very good), salmon nigiri, and one roll I can't remember the name of that had lemon slices on top. All very good. This spot is fun snd flavorful! I extremely picky when it comes to sushi all the way down to the temperature that it is served at and this place hit it out of the park. Came in late night about an hour before close for a little snack on our walk. The service was fantastic as the waitress was cracking jokes. What made this experience fantastic and over the top was the service. The staff was very accommodating to our two fur babies, and got us a spot outside. Outdoor seating is in a great spot. Near plants and a creek. The avocado bomb was delicious. We also ordered some sushi. Sushi was good, not great but definitely above average. They also cooked some salmon without any seasoning and some steamed rice for our dogs, since momma forgot their food in the car. They loved it. Again, the quality of service was outstanding. A good Japanese dinner is always on my list of favorite nights out. I wasn't hungry enough for a full dinner and either was Linda. White tuna nigiri is usually escolar and I don't think it was this tasty fish. Nevertheless it was fresh and satisfied my desire for a bite of raw fish. I am a big fan of Gyoza and these were very good; the wrappers were thin, the filling was nicely textured, and the dipping sauce was good. I ate then all. I offered to share but Linda did not want one.The food is beautifully presented. The interior is attractive. The silver grey walls and the wooden booths and floor warm up the room. There is also a patio which I did not see. The art on the walls and touches of chrome make this an attractive room. How about a pitcher of water and a smile? The waitress didn't seem terribly happy to see us. The food was good and we enjoyed eating it by the creek. But she never checked on us and at some point stopped coming outside at all for anyone else, so we were left without any water refills. The next door restaurant has items for dogs on the menu and the dog definitely got better service than we did, with water refills and all. When leaving we mentioned that we didn't get any water and asked if we could have some to go, at which she didn't seem to care at all and said we could buy bottled water. When the restaurant my husband and I planned to go to for our anniversary ended up being closed on a Tuesday, we continued walking downtown to find somewhere else to grab some dinner. We decided sushi sounded like a great option and remembered that Little Tokyo was a new spot on the plaza we had hoped to try. This may be my favorite sushi in town at the moment. We were greeted by very friendly staff and immediately seated. We decided on three sushi rolls to share. The Boss, Three Star and the Avocado Bomb (which isn't a roll, but found on the Chef's Special Rolls menu). As we waited, we were brought bowls of complimentary sunomono and simply told, "this is a very refreshing, good appetizer!" The pickled cucumbers topped with crab was indeed very refreshing and tasty. On to the rolls. The Boss had tempura shrimp, cream cheese, crab, and cucumber, topped with avocado, spicy tuna, crunchy flakes, spicy sauce and eel sauce. The Three Star included yellowtail, tuna, jalapeno, crab, torched salmon, thin pieces of lemon, tobiko and green onion. And the avocado bomb is a half avocado, stuffed with spicy tuna and crab, then topped with spicy sauce, crunchy flakes and tobiko, served on a bed of crunchy rice noodles. EVERYTHING was SO delicious! Even when we were full, we couldn't stop eating! The menu is pretty large and offers dishes other than sushi, too, including stir-fried noodles, soups, combination plates, and bentos. I absolutely cannot wait to return! read more

I have passed by this place many times and finally gave it a try last night. Our party was seated promptly. As our appetizers, we ordered 1 roll of salmon sushi along with a tempura potato dish. Both items were perfect and tasty. The employees are very friendly specifically the Korean woman and her son who is the waiter. They both went above and beyond to get our orders right even though it was a busy night for them as we have dietary restrictions on shellfish. It came with a scoop of white rice. With the noodles were carrots, broccoli, mushrooms, cabbage and bean sprouts. The food was slightly spiced but tasted mostly of the cooking oil.
