I've lived in the valley most my life, had always passed this place by... figured, after the fires kept it in tact, it's high time I give them a try- & on the Lunar New Year no less! The place was practically empty- white everything with black diner seats & red/floral decorations on the walls. Long, narrow passage- greeted with delayed warmth from a boisterous lady. She recommended "more bang for your buck" combinations, so I'll hafta try the ala carte entrees later. I got the crab puffs (8 for $10.25)- they were fun! Triangles vs those 'purses'. Classic krab & cream cheese, but also has diced onion! A note of freshness & packed to the gills! And the egg flower soup ('small' bowl for $6)- simple, pretty straightforward... not enough salt, so shoyu helped. Some corn, pretty sure that's why it was so thick. The #15 ($15.50) came with pork fried rice, mar far chicken & moo goo gai pan... they did not come to play! The fried rice was a little overpowered by green onion, but that's where their pink sauce really came in handy- talk about balance! Their mar far wasn't little nuggets- they were like a breast, battered & fried, THEN cut into strips! So filling! And the moo goo gai pan was refreshing- big slices of carrot, onion, cabbage, mushrooms & broccoli with slices of chicken. Heartwarming, really. With hot tea (one pot for $1?!) & a fortune cookie, came to $32.75. With tip, overall total sat at just under $40. I'm glad I stopped in- this really was a phoenix rising from the proverbial ashes; Phoenix needs a win after Alameda & this place is helping keep them strong. Highly recommend read more

It's a-ok. Ordered the Combination #7: Pork Fried Rice and Mar Far Chicken based on anther yelpers review. I'm sad. I think it must have been a friend of the owner or something. Mar Far Chicken contains NO VEGETABLES. It is deep fried chicken breast (least flavorful of the proteins) cut into sections. I appreciated that they served the "pink sauce" in a separate container so that it didn't get soggy on the road. Pork fried rice is a hearty portion, not greasy, fairly neutral flavor. They no longer sell won ton soup. That's too bad because I read that theirs was really tasty. ALL of their prices have gone up in the last 4 months; I added updated menu photos. read more

Comforting American Chinese foods. Low sodium, no MSG. May need to salt yourself as needed. The locally made sweet & sour sauce is so flavorful. The woman who seated us in the empty dining room at 5:30 pm on a Sunday evening immediately leaned over the back of our booth and reached through the mini blinds with her bare fingers and began grabbing live flies. She grabbed 4-5 before we got up and walked out. This is easily the most gross thing I have seen a food service worker do in front of customers. No telling what she would do when customers are not looking. We did not even order much less eat here so I cannot comment on the tastiness of the cuisine. read more

Wow, I love this place! All the sauces are made in house. She makes a killer pink sauce. I've been there about four times in the past two weeks. If I lived in this area, I would eat there all the time. Three times I've gotten it to go and the last time I ate there, she took great care of us. Great service and felt like I belonged to the family. The Mar-far chicken is a must try. I also enjoyed the egg roll, pork fried rice, fried shrimp and the house hot mustard. I drove by this place many times. I should have kept driving. The smell of rancid grease meets you at the door. Oregonians seem to think this is a good sign. It is not. Old grease is not a plus. And they are using it, not just smelling up the place with it. The food was mediocre but some things were just awful. The egg rolls were dry and tasteless except for that grease! I've head about Kim's Chinese food Mar Far Chicken since moving to the area. Tried other places - all batter & small pieces of chicken. ***Golden Phoenix is cooking Kim's recipe - big juicy chunks of white meat chicken with a thin tasty batter and Kim's Pink Sauce!!! So good!! You can actually see pork in the pork fried rice. The potstickers are made fresh and so good. Just know - it's a husband and wife only running the restaurant and cooking as you order. I just left, with a full belly of deliciousness! The Far Mar Chicken was next level. I've never had breaded chicken from a Chinese place like this. Normally the breading is almost soggy. Their Far Mar chicken was crispy and the chicken was juicy! And I got more than a breasts worth. Mixed with a little sweet and sour pink sauce and hot mustard.. HOOWEE!! I got a combo of Far Mar chicken, can't remember the pork dish but it was chock full of vegetables a delicious sauce and topped with peanuts. And on the side was pork fried rice. I've heard about this place for years and finally had an opportunity to go. I have to say that the mar far chicken and fried shrimp with fried rice was very good...maybe the best I've had in a long time. Will probably even go back; however, you need to know that the building is old and the smell of "old grease", I assume, is a bit off putting when you first walk in. There is also a section in the back being used for storage. Kind of odd, to be honest. But, maybe COVID has influenced and/or affected the business, and maybe time has changed things for the very nice owner (we were assisted by the wife). If you're not super picky about atmosphere, I think you should try the food. read more

Let's start with the smell of rancid oil that hits you when you walk in the door. I really wanted to like this place but the food was tasteless and heavy and I won't be back. We ordered 4 combination dinners. The spring rolls were double wrapped and fried so you could barely taste the inside for the taste of oily wrap. The orange chicken was thickly battered and oily and had a thick, pasty orange sauce, hard to eat. There was a lot of food, enough for two on each dinner. Just wish it tasted good. read more

They had two visible signs up claiming No MSG. I got the Happy Family meal for four to go. It includes: Sweet and sour pork. The pork was dry, with a thick dry fried batter on it. It was drenched in a very sweet sauce. Mar Far Chicken. Crust was good, chicken a little dry. Chicken chow mein. I've never seen chow mein with dark noodles, but it was delicious nonetheless. Pork fried rice. Dry all around. Fried shrimp. Dry batter, over fried shrimp. Spring roll. Fried perfectly with tempura on both ends. Mashed potato texture inside. Ick. THE PINK SAUCE...... need I say more? I'll try again, maybe during a busier time when the food is fresher. UPDATE: I am doubting their signs claiming "No MSG". Absolutely Rude ( assuming owner). I made a call in order and a item simply got missed. I called when I got home and the woman started yelling at me saying that it was my husband's faults. She would barley let me speak about the small problem and yet told me to "NEVER CALL AGAIN!". I tried to explain further and and she became outraged telling me that I don't understand how they do thing there?. Confused and upset I tried to ask another question and explain and she said "Have a good night, never call again, OK!" Lost not only my buissness but will definitely be passing on to others. I have driven by this little spot many times over the past few years. Yesterday I decided to stop in for some take out. I wish I wouldn't have waited so long to give them a try. I had one of their specials with Chicken Chow Mein, Pork Fried Rice and Mar Far Chicken. It was all fresh and delicious, the Chow Mein was full of veggies vs noodles, very good stuff. Rice was full of flavor as well, first time I have had Mar Far Chicken this way but again it was very tasty. We called back to let her know that's the food that they were making had several ants in it...she didn't believe us and we came back down and showed her and she kept saying it wasn't. So very disappointed in this place. Very weird experience. I have never witnessed an owner run off customers until now. A party of 5 came in and they wanted only soup and rice. They told the owner they were not very hungry. She tells them they have to order more food if they were going to eat at her restaurant, she said the restaurant was too busy for them to take up the table and eat only rice and soup, so she had them leave. She was very short with them. Of course no one else came in to sit at that table, so she lost $$$ she could have made off the rice and soup.
