A true wealth of knowledge at this establishment. I came in to get my wedding ring fixed as a prong had bent (almost snapped off) from my diamond. I felt very comfortable trusting them with my ring when I dropped it off. Not only was the one prong fixed, but they tightened all prongs and I also received rhodium replating on the ring as well. I have a brand new ring now and it's perfect! Felt like I fell in love with it all over again. While I was there, I learned a great deal about my ring and the safest design for diamonds with different prong settings/types. Also learned a better technique to take on and off my rings. Normally a 5-star review is a kind of comparison with other similar businesses. If there are several different places in the same business, you can compare star ratings if you don't have time to read the reviews. There is nothing quite like Bergmann's. Nothing to compare it to. My five-star review does not mean it is better than some similar four star place, because there is nothing similar. My five stars are because she and her business make me happy and do well what I want them to do. The proprietor Nadja Sapno-Bergmann has been in business seemingly forever. She speaks 4 languages fluently (one of which, luckily, is English). She employs a jewelry technician who does the work, but under her watchful eye. She can tell 14K gold from 18K gold from 5 feet away. If she has ever seen a piece of jewelry she will remember it. Her daughter used to work at this store but now works up the road at the Gemological Institute. If you have jewelry that matters to you and you need something done to it, or need it inspected, take it to Bergmann's. If you want to buy something unusual from her relatively small inventory, look there. If you are looking for the best price on something fashionable, go elsewhere. Nadja loves to talk, and she always has something to say. Don't go in expecting to get out in 10 minutes. Go in expecting to spend an hour, most of which is conversation. read more

I am writing on behalf of someone who was in the store watching your extremely RUDE behavior and attitude towards not only the owner of Bergman's Fine Jewelry, but the customers who were being taken care of before you walked in. First and foremost, its a FINE jewelry store and knock off cheap Chanel earrings that you consider to be "fine," don't fit the mold of the level of jewelry this local business is accustomed to caring for. People have been supporting this business for over 40 years for a reason and have had the utmost satisfaction the entire time. That is because that woman you called old, also has the experience and knowledge to give to customers when they bring in the true "fine" jewelry. Sorry she isn't in the business of fixing cheap and fake jewelry that required glue. Even though she isn't in that business of dealing with your knock of jewels, she still took the time to try and explain everything to you regarding what you wanted accomplished. She also only charged you $9.50 even though the rhinestones cost her more than that. If that isn't called 5 star customer service, than you are blind! She went above and beyond for custom order rhinestones that took time because it was a special order and circumstance. My husband bought my engagement ring and wedding band at Bergmann's, and I am so glad he did. Bergmann's is a family run and owned business and they treat us like part of their family. Their customer service is amazing! With the help of Nadia, who runs the shop most days, my husband chose a beautiful cushion cut diamond for my engagement ring. He was not sure what look I ultimately wanted for my ring, so he put the diamond in a simple solitaire setting. Nadia told him that if I wanted to change the setting to something more elaborate, I could just bring the ring back in, return the solitaire setting, and put the diamond into something else. While Bergmann's is a smaller jeweler, they are able to order or make just about anything special you might want. My husband's family has been going to Bergmann's for over 15 years for all of their jewelry needs. They added diamonds to his Mom's wedding band and designed and made his Sister's engagement ring and wedding band. Bergmann's is a great little shop with amazing customer service! read more

Very poor customer service. Nadia laughed when asked when she could have some time to look at jewelry to apprise and flippantly said, "on her day off". She wasn't too interested in looking at my things as far as getting an appointment. She was not busy but seemed disinterested. She measured my coin which needs a bezel, didn't have a bezel in the catalog the same circumference and said she would screw it down as tight and maybe have to leave some open but secure it she didn't order the holder she didn't ask me if I wanted to order the holder she didn't have any ideas of anything new and exciting. A few years ago, I went to Bergmann's on the recommendation from a dear friend in Carlsbad. I needed my wedding band/ engagement ring repaired. It was a custom set that I designed. The main diamond was from my Mother-in-laws ring...so very sentimental. I used to paint and wallpaper for a living, and never took it off. My bad !!!! The back of the set cracked and split open. I lost a few side stones because of it. Bergmann's made it look like new again. I was ever so grateful !!! The price for all the work done, was very reasonable !!! They are a wonderful Mom and Pop store and are knowledgable, personable and trustworthy. I would not take my jewelry anywhere else. I am not a big Yelp reviewer....I was looking for their phone #. I need to take in a ring for my son. It belonged to his birth father and left to him in his passing. The tiny diamond fell out...and I need to make sure it is repaired correctly. I came here to get my fiances ring finger sized for her engagement ring because I recently proposed to her in Hawaii. My fiance thought her ring finger size was an 8 but she wasn't 100% sure so we went to Bergmanns to get her finger sized. The ring that I got for her started out at a size 7. So, after trying on the different ring sizes it appeared that an 8 was in fact the correct size but Nadja said that 7 1/2 was the right size. As we were ending the conversation she then said that she thought it should go down a size smaller and insisted that a 7 1/4 would be perfect. Her reason for wanting to make it so small was that it would fall off when she was cleaning dishes or washing her hands. No other reasons other than that. My fiance and I knew that this was going to be too small, but since neither of us know much about ring sizing we trusted Nadja's word. Well, we're in Hawaii and I propose to my girl and what do you know, the ring is too small. Kind of ruins a perfect and basically once in a lifetime moment when the ring doesn't fit, especially knowing that you took it somewhere to get it sized. Needless to say I was pretty upset. She tried wearing the ring but it was so tight that she was losing blood flow to her hand. We ended up having to go to a jeweler while in Hawaii to get it resized so that my fiance could actually wear the ring while we were there and not completely lose blood flow to her entire hand and cause even more problems. Of course the jeweler in Hawaii said that an 8 was the right size. I wish I had been more straight forward with Nadja and let her know that it should have been bigger. But like I said, I'm not a ring sizing expert so I trusted her judgement. I definitely will not be coming back here to get the wedding band sized. We have been going to Bergmann's for all of our jewelry needs ever since we moved to Carlsbad in the 1980"s. I was presented with my husband's grandmother's white gold diamond solitaire ring when he proposed to me. After wearing the ring it turned out I had an allergy to white gold because of the nickel content. I brought the ring in to Nadia and she had her father design an exquisite setting in the shape of a rose which draws many compliments even today along with the wedding band that he designed with engraved Tudor roses. I love the fact that Bergmann's offer the opportunity to trade up and at the time of writing this review am in the process of trading in my diamond stud earrings for a larger carat ones.
