I stopped in this afternoon while out Christmas shopping, not expecting for them to have what I was looking for, nor be overly helpful, similar to what I'd been experiencing at other jewelers. For the past couple of weeks I'd been searching the North County jewelry chain stores for a particular bracelet style that just doesn't seem to be made anymore. Each store I stopped into, I would describe what I was looking for only to be met with, "Nope - we don't have anything like that. We DO however, have THIS (completely unrelated product)..." Nevertheless, I was getting discouraged. I walked into Foster's while waiting on my husband to peruse the music shop a couple of doors down and was greeted by a friendly duo - whom I quickly learned are a father/daughter team. Stephen and Ceresa listened while I described what I was looking for, and Stephen pulled out a large catalog to show me a few styles he thought might fit what I was looking for. While they didn't exactly match, they came much closer than what I'd found anywhere else. Ceresa showed me the chain to the necklace she was wearing - a wheat chain - which is a similarly flat style, but still not what I was looking for. My husband came to join me and commented on Ceresa's bracelet, which was delicate and gorgeous - still not exactly what I had in mind but I fell in love with the style right away and we decided to go with that but in a different color. They took down my information and said there was no need to pay until it arrived - which I really appreciated not having seen it in person just yet. Stephen is a fine craftsman, and showed me all of the custom rings and other jewelry he's hand-crafted, as well as taught me about the process which I found to be fascinating. You can tell he takes extreme pride in his art, and I would much rather shop small businesses that do their own in-house work rather than with a large chain that only cares about making a buck. Mind you we had drove from Marina del Rey and we googled jewelers in the Carlsbad area and found Fosters Fine Jewelry. I called and Stephan answered my call and said come on by. When we arrived Stephen was there greeting us with a smile and a hand shake. He immediately got to work and removed the stone from its setting. While we were in his store we saw the most beautiful quality jewelry hand made by Stephen. He is a true artisan skilled at carving wax to form a valuable piece of jewelry.
