Rob and his wife both assisted me in the process of designing my engagement ring, from picking out a diamond, advising me how to choose, letting me compare using the loop, and also listening to my preferences on design. Rob was immensely kind and personable throughout it all, and on top of it all charged us half of what we were being quoted elsewhere. I am still in disbelief that I got a custom, local, STUNNING ring. The only thing I will say is that I had to reach out to him a couple different times for updates and timing - I didn't want to be a pest but the lack of communication gave me a little uncertainty with how the ring would turn out, but of course it ended up beautiful and I'm so grateful. If I could give Carlsbad Jewelry 10 stars I would! Rob and his family are so amazing! I met with Rob and one of his partners, Nick on Friday to discuss options for my engagement ring. I was convinced I was going to do a new setting even though I loved the ring I was proposed to with. In discussing options, they both agreed that Rob could take the ring as is and add diamonds to the band. I was relieved with this option as it would keep the integrity of the ring but add my own personal touch. I left that day feeling great about the plan. I dropped the ring off with Rob on Monday morning and later that evening I was happily surprised with a text that the ring was done! Just a simple battery for a Casio watch that was several years old. But he didn't have the large battery needed and would have the correct battery delivered in less than an hour. When I returned he was working on the watch removing corrosion from the contacts. Since I was running late. I declined his offer to set the time. I visited this store after seeing a coupon in Coast News that stated: Free Watch Cleaning; $150 off purchase of $250 or more. I brought two Cartier watches in to be cleaned, and one needed a new watch band. The store owner agreed to clean both watches per the coupon but thought that the watches may need to be serviced. A service is when an authorized Cartier dealer opens the watch and makes sure all of the springs and moving parts are functioning well, and the parts are in good condition. If serviced, a customer is always given a service receipt, date of service, and condition of watch for insurance or resell purposes. The service is then evidenced by a tiny sticker placed inside the watch. So I left the watches at the store with the agreement that the store would call me first with a bid for the service and the band in advance. A month passed, and I never heard from Rob. He finally called and told me that he had serviced both watches and put a new leather band on one. I was surprised that the watches had been serviced because I had left explicit instructions for a bid first. I asked the owner what the cost was, and he told me that I owed him $1,400. I balked at that, so the price was lowered to $1,200. I balked at that, too, and at $800. All I had wanted to know was if the watches needed to be serviced and the cost in advance in order to make a decision before doing anything, and wasn't given the opportunity as agreed. After going back and forth with the owner, we agreed to meet at the store to discuss the price. I was urged to come to pay for and get the watches during a Christmas open house, so I visited the store then. Since I believed that both watches had been serviced and a new leather band had replaced the old band, I agreed to pay the owner $500. He told me later, "Come on, I paid $668, and I'm losing $168 at $568, so would you pay $568?" I reluctantly agreed. After bringing the watches home, my husband asked me where the cartier watch boxes were. I hadn't remembered if I had left the boxes there because my watches were returned in cardboard jewelry boxes lined with cotton. The boxes are worth a lot. I called the store, and the owner told me that he had my boxes. I also mentioned that I needed to get the service records too. It is standard practice to provide customers. I was told that the service records for both watches were at another store, so I agreed to pick them up later when he returned my boxes to me. When I returned to the store, the boxes were returned. I asked for the service records and was told, "I'll call you next week. They aren't here." At this point, I was questioning the integrity of the business. When I began to question whether the watches were serviced to begin with, and politely and calmly told the owner that I hadn't appreciated getting a bid in advance, the owner became verbally abusive, irate. antagonistic, and argumentative. I couldn't a word in without being interrupted. The owner even argued that the dealer who serviced the watches was confidential and none of my business! Since he had no records, because the watches weren't serviced, the owner then began to argue about what his own published coupons stated. It was claimed the coupon I used was never published and instead stated, "Free jewelry cleaning." At this point, I knew that I had been taken advantage of. As we discussed this, two customers came in the store to have a broken chain repaired, so I quietly waited for them to finish in order to resume our discussion. As I was, the owner said to me, "Thank you, we are finished. You can leave now." I objected, and then the owner started arguing with me in front of the customers about the verbiage on his own published coupons, and when I objected, he stated. "You have a lot of problems in your life. You can leave now." A personal attack from a stranger. So I walked outside and told the customers, "I wouldn't do business with this store." I told the owner that I was going to see him in court too. As I sat outside, the owner was clearly disparaging me with the 2 teens, laughing and joking. The teens finally left, and the owner asked me back inside, where he proceeded to argue further about his coupons to deflect attention from the fact that I was there to get two boxes and service receipts. I was interrupted every time I tried to speak. I never got service records because the watches were not serviced. I later learned that one watch is battery operated and can not be serviced to begin with. Meanwhile, the owner was telling me that both watches had been serviced when he knew they had not been. The other watch was opened by another jeweler who informed me that it wasn't serviced either. The owner refused to reimburse me part of the money paid to him. So for almost $600, I got a watchband and two polished watches. wouldn't recommend doing any business with this store or trusting him with expensive jewelry. I have never come across a jeweler like this. read more

Robert really knows how to take care of his customers. I came in for a wedding band to go with my engagement ring. He was very helpful in choosing a style that complimented my ring. He made two bands so I could choose which I preferred. The work was done in a week and the quality was top notch. Before I picked up my prong tip broke off on my engagement ring so I brought it in. He removed my diamond in front of me and wrapped it up so I could take it home while he had the prong tip fixed. When I go back he will set it while I watch.
