Solid bagels and will go back, here's why! Food: A Bagels were spot on and the bagel sandwiches (The Works) were great. Everything was made on the spot and loved how much ingredients they put on everything, especially the avocados. Each bite into the dough was chewy and warm. It made you want more, plus the hot sauce made the sandwich that much better. Price: B+ Solid prices for the amount of food you got. For two The Works (both gourmet bagels and one had two extra meats), an everything bagel with cream cheese and orange juice came out to about $26. Staff: B+ They were efficient and kind. They had a lot of customers so they didn't talk too much, but everything was made well and not haphazardly. Parking: B- There was ample street parking and it's right across from the beirgarten. Overall: A- Solid bagel place and will go back. The only thing is they do charge $.70 for credit card so bring cash when you can! read more

I'm from Long Island and I approve of these bagels. The guy who owns the place once even made me a couple dozen special order egg/everything bagels that I missed from back east. They just moved to a slightly Lite convenient spot for me (parking can be a bear on Telegraph but if you get there early enough it works out) but it's bigger and really nice. I love coming here for a bagel, I like to stick to basics.. I come here for a jalapeño cheese bagel with cream cheese and I kid you not this may be my favorite spot for a bagel. I've gone to so many bagel spots in the Bay Area and have not had one come close, the cream cheese here is so good! I've had just about every bagel flavor they have to offer so I can say with 100% confidence if you're looking for a good ol cream cheese bagel come here! Berkeley Bagels is a Berkeley-carb-lovers institution. Its been around for a long time, and produces a good product at a good price. On my last visit (during COVID), there was a sign out front advertising deals that I was told were not available after I waited in line and got to order - this was a bit frustrating. Especially given theprominent posting Don't come here for the service, come for the bagels. The service isn't too good. I'd give it 2.5 stars. You really have to stay on top of them with special requests. And twice I've been handed the wrong order. They don't make conversation and are not friendly. But once again, you should just come here for the carbs. They do come in very very early in the morning and make bagels fresh everyday. They use a traditional "New York" style process that involves boiling and gives the outside of the bagel a delicious smooth and chewy texture. read more

The staff are warm, kind, and welcoming, something you get from mom-and-pop shops. Recommend if you're looking for beagle breakfast sandwiches. My Go-To, convenient, and reliable Bagel emporium, for over 30 years - just about as good as it gets in the Bay Area - certainly 'Good Enough' - and way better than my experience of Boichik Bagels' new Berkeley Sixth Street factory's product. Comes very close to my personal-taste Gold Standard: Detroit's "NY Bagel Company" from 5 decades ago. Their lox is unusual, and great. Very friendly, and very Neighborhood-y. Berkeley Bagels is a good spot for a good bagel. I got an onion bagel with scallion cream cheese and lox and my friend got an asiago bagel with scallion cream cheese and a garlic bagel with chili cilantro cream cheese. The bagel bread itself for the onion bagel was okay, could have been better, but the cream cheese made up for it. It was divine and had a genuine cheesy taste lacking from most spreads. The lox was excellent and not too salty. The asiago bagel was also okay, but the garlic bagel with the chili cilantro cream cheese was much better and an excellent pairing, would recommend for a non traditional bagel choice. We also got thai milk teas and bbq chips, great brand of chips. Overall positive experience and the bagel shop is in a cute area of berkeley and solid overall. read more

My family has been coming here for years. Good bagels. The Seed City is my favorite, chewy and full of seeds. One issue I have had is that they aren't careful about distinguishing between their olive spread and their jalapeño spread. Twice I have ordered olive spread, which is delicious, and ended up with jalapeño. Their Jalapeño is great for people who want that. The most recent time was today when I purchased a container of what I thought was olive from the case. The counter person put jalapeño in my bag. Over 40 years ago, known as Brothers Bagel Factory or Brothers Bagels. Went there for the frist time is years. Nothing has changed. The onion bagel is still delicious with a generous serving of cream cheese. They have the usual coffee and drinks as well as newer items and a more expanded menu for you to look up. OMG two bagels and a bialy were all old and dry as the sahara. If you crave dependably fresh bagels, this is not your place.

I was in a rush so I called ahead to place my order and was told I could pick it up at 9:15. Upon arrival, I was unsure whether to wait in line or proceed to the counter inside since they have a limit on how many people can be inside due to COVID. So I called again to ask what they wanted me to do and was told to wait in line with everyone else. So for the next 25 minutes I waited and when I got inside the rude woman behind the counter told me it was MY FAULT for not just walking in despite me being told otherwise on the phone. She gave me cold bagels (because they'd been sitting on the counter for 25 minutes) and no sympathy. This was my favorite bagel shop in Berkeley but after the awful customer service I won't be coming back. My bagel wasn't even wrapped, it was just half-heartedly thrown into the bag.
