This was my cleaner for over a year - they are 1 block from my house and I wanted to keep the business local. I just can't go there anymore or spend my money with them. My weekly spend was $50-$80 for shirts, pants, my wife's dresses, etc. I had to pre-treat any stains and my dress shirt collars because they just would not get the stains or marks out. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I spoke to the older couple that own the shop and their son that works there. I was told that was the best that could be done[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] (my current cleaner gets it all out with out pre treating...). I had 2 shirts and a pair of pants lost over a 9 month period and they argued with me every time saying that there was just a miscount and would not replace the items. The final straw was when I had a shirt collar come back with a vertical cut all the way through both layers of material and there were grease marks on the cut like it got caught on something. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I showed it to the son before leaving and was told "that is normal wear and tear". no it was not. he refused to replace the shirt[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] and I now take $1500-$2200 a year+ somewhere else. read more

Located next to Arco gas station on Harbor and Berkeley, Berkeley Cleaners is a low key dry cleaners with exceptional service. I had to drop off our UGG comforter and shams for cleaning. With 4 kids, we had the usual juice and other stains on it. I brought it in on a Monday and it was ready on Wednesday. While it's worn for wear with kids and dogs on it after 3 years, it was clean and fresh smelling (no chemical smells here). [[HIGHLIGHT]]Service was prompt, with a smile and most importantly, convenience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The ample parking and convenient location will make this my go to spot for my special cleanings. Sure, Riviera is cheaper with the pay in advance requirement, but Berkeley is for those special or oversize items. And having two cleaners isn't a bad thing. Especially when it's on Berkeley. This review is entirely based off of the current COVID pandemic. If you value businesses that respect your health and at least attempt to look like they are following state guidelines, I advise you to go elsewhere. They DO NOT wear masks anywhere at any time inside their shop. The pandemic is hard for everyone, especially small business owners. I understand that. If I can support small business, I will do so any way I can and Berkeley Cleaners was no different which is why I was still loyally going there. However, my safety and the safety of other customers should be the priority. I have never had any trouble with service here before and have been coming here for about 3 years now. I don't want people thinking i am criticizing bad customer service in that sense. I will not be returning because the owner and other employees do not wear masks. I went three times to confirm and both times i actually received service, I saw employees steaming in the back without masks and the owner who rang me up was not wearing a mask when talking directly to me. I drove by a third time and saw no masks again to confirm. To avoid conflict, I didn't say anything. If you also don't care about the pandemic, then you can probably still come here. I won't be coming back even after things are back to normal. To think that they could be sneezing, coughing and breathing all over my clothes and then I can bring that back home to elderly family is outrageous. Also, it is disrespectful to speak directly to me without a mask on when clearly I have mine on. At least make an effort... you have no idea what circumstance I may or may not have to go home to. read more

I have had consistently good experiences with Berkeley Cleaners. There was one time I had an issue: a removable/washable chair cover had an odd odor when I picked it up. I use their tailoring service and the lady who does it is super sweet and the prices are cheaper than other cleaners. She does a great job and the turnaround time is fast! I needed my son's Boy Scout patches to be taken off from the outgrown shirt to be sewn on the new one and she did it within 2 days! Others require at least a week and was more expensive too. This place used to be able to do everything and anything. Apparently, they cannot sew patches on bomber jackets, anything nylon or jerseys. They won't even use a cool iron to at least try to attach the patch then sew it. So, if you are in law enforcement and need a patch on a nylon jacket you'll need to go some where else. I've been going to Berkeley Cleaners for about 2 years after a move to the area. I was looking for a chemical free cleaners and lucked out to find them close by. The fact that they actually were MUCH cheaper than my previous chemical using cleaners was icing! The service has always been been fast, friendly, and problems free. I gave them a challenge last week when I took in a horrible highlighter stained, brand new shirt that I had only word once. Everyone told me it was impossible to get highlighter out, but I thought I'd see what they could do . This shirt was not cheap so having it ruined on the first outing was heartbreaking! Berkeley offered to give it shot. My hopes were not high that the stain could be removed and I was prepared to toss the shirt when I went to pick it up. But today I was shocked to see that the stains were all gone! Unbelievable! I'm so happy and thankful for their great work. Cost for the day? $6. I will 100% not return to a business if they're rude. Unfortunately that's the case with this place. The shirts were cleaned well enough, but the pressing of the collars left them sticking up a bit; not flat. The price was a bit on the high side, although I'm happy to pay for great quality & service. I told them I was new to the area and was trying them out, and I was looking forward to a welcoming attitude. It seems they have plenty of business and don't need mine! I used my credit card to pay and the man told me to bring cash next time. When I asked about writing a check, he said nobody writes checks anymore and he said he would probably just lose it. Just a super strange encounter, so I'm just moving on. We work hard for our money, and I'd like to pay a service provider with the same outlook. read more

Review of the alterations only, haven't had cleaning done (yet). I stopped by with a pair of suit pants that had a split seam below the pocket. I tried to just drop them off, but the woman told me to wait, "I won't be here for a few days and maybe you'll need the pants soon." I asked her how much it would cost. She said "$100 dollars," laughed, and shooed me away so she could work. I walked across Harbor to the bank to get cash. I figured she'd charge me $10 or something. By the time I walked back to the shop, my pants were folded on her counter. I asked her how much I owed, she said "Don't worry, it took 5 minutes. Have a great day." That tells me all I need to know about customer service. She went out of her way to do me a favor, when I didn't even ask for one, and that tells me this is the kind of place who appreciates their customers. If ANYONE knows me really well they know that I have the worst luck with ZIPPERS in the whole wide world. I always take my zippers to be repaired and replaced here. There is one woman who does all the alterations and repairs and she has gone out of her way to win me over. She will replace my zippers with better ones that she special orders and I just think the world of her. She reminds me of my mom and that makes me happy and comfortable when I bring my stuff to her. I have been using Berkeley Cleaners for the past 6 years. I first discovered it when I lived in Down Town and it appealed to me because it was a quick 5 minute walk away. They always do a great job, have decent prices, never lose anything or mess anything up. I go out of my way to bring my clothing here when I need it cleaned or repaired. I have never been to a worse cleaners in my life. They stained several of my dress shirts brown with rusty irons. When I brought this to the attention of one of the employees. I was asked whether I wanted to dry clean my shirt for an additional fee. Let me get this straight: they want to profit from their mistakes. At least three of my shirts have come back with broken buttons. Obviously, I have switched cleaners and am quite happy. The coup de grace happened this morning. I called to speak to the owner to complain. The employee who answered the phone was rude and told me to call back at noon. When I asked what the owner's or manager's name was, I was told that I should know if I were calling to speak to them. Ridiculous. Also wasn't given an itemized receipt, so I have no idea what the cost was for the individual items. Will probably call around to other cleaners for their prices before I think about returning here. UPDATE- Went from 2 stars down to 1 because upon further inspection, the wool coat that was brought in to be cleaned either wasn't at all, or just not very well and the dress shirt looks like it was ironed in about 30 seconds. Terrible place. On two separate occasions I've picked up clothes to see that they haven't been cleaned. There was no apology or anything. I just picked up pants after them trying two times to do their job. Still have make-up on them and the pants are now faded. They have only been cleaned one other time. So they left the stain on the pants and faded them as well. These pants cost $150, and have now been ruined. They gave no response when I pointed out the stain and the fact the pants were faded. They just stared at me. Thanks a bunch. They're rude and don't care. They can't do the one job you pay them for. Do not go here. Don't trust them with anything. My child got sick with a parasite (horrible) and I needed help cleaning blankets, pillows and stuffed animals, as my home washer is going overtime washing bed linens and clothes and I'm not sure I can get it all done in one day. I walked in and asked if they can help with stuffed animals. The man made me feel bad for not bringing them in and said show to show him. I brought it all in and he said he could do the blankets and pillows, but not the stuffed animals. I felt like a fool having brought them all in. He wasn't nice about it. Their ad says same day service. I said I could pick up the blankets and pillows next business day (after the long weekend, so four days out). The woman comes out and suggests four business days later than that. Says they are busy. It definitely felt like they were sorry I'd walked in. I felt like an absolute fool and I wasted my time. I'd give them one star, but I am being very charitable because they seem like a mom and pop, and they seem to value environmentally friendly methods. I have been very happy with the wonderful jobs they did. I love the silk, wool and cashmere clothing I have and always worry that they get ruined by bad dry cleaners based on my bad past experiences.
