My initial visit at the Berkeley Eye Center with my mom was excellent. The woman on the 4th floor had her post decorated by the staff to help celebrate her birthday. She graciously helped us with directions for our appointment. Right there we knew the staff enjoyed and respected one another. While we had a short wait for our appointment I walked over to search for glasses. Immediately I was greeted and asked if I needed any help. Our wait for mom's appointment was brief so we moved on. Every staff that we encountered was very patient with our slow pace for mom to walk from one area to the next. During our wait time we could hear the staff talking with one another and they seemed to enjoy their job and respected one another. Our first visit with Dr. Nguyen was excellent. He was very good at explaining his findings and or results from tests. We felt very confident with the next steps to mom's treatments! 2 weeks later we visited again and this time I went in to look for my glasses in between mom's test. Again I was greeted and asked if I needed any help. Roni was extremely helpful in my decision! She listened to my description of style and we ended up going with iGREEN. Had lasik done several weeks ago and I highly recommend Berkeley Eye Center. Wished I've done it long ago, but like most I was scared and afraid. It was a birthday gift to myself so I decided to get several consultations with different centers (as should you). I wanted to make sure that I qualify and that they're not clearing me because they wanted my money (paranoid right? Lol). I also wanted to see the pricing (I made sure that they own their machine). The other places were quoting me $5K for both eyes which I thought were extremely high considered it's been around for over 20 years? Manns Eye quoted me $5K initially but they stopped my at the door and lowered it to $4K after I told them my friend got her lasik done there and did not paid $5K (this really did not go well and seem shady?). Came to Berkeley and never left. Ms. Glenda took care of me and answered all my questions. Dr. Sun did my procedure (which was less than 10 mins...you'll be there for a good 2 hrs that day but most of it is preparations). It was painless. I can see everything clearly the moment she put the flap back! I could have gone back to work the next day lol. They have specials on pricing and offers depend on the month! My cost was $3300 for both eyes with $275 credit that I can use on a pair of sunglasses when I'm done (so really $3K!). Follow ups were easy and quick. 5 stars! Do you research! They also offer care credit with 12 months no interest if you want to go that rout. Definitely check out Berkeley! They will take care of you! It was almost impossible to get this worker to get off of her chair, let alone explain what our insurance covered. My elderly mother went for an eye exam a couple of months ago went for an eye exam a couple of months ago and they forgot to give her a copy of her new prescription for glasses. She called for weeks to have her send it to her. Once she received it she saw they had sent both her old and new prescription. Looking at them we saw her new prescription was was very different from her old one. Somehow her eyes had magically improved significantly. She called and they set an appointment for her to come back. This is not a small thing as she doesn't drive and is high risk if she got sick. I called two days before her appointment to make sure they were not going to charge her again for the checkup when they had obviously made a mistake and was told that wouldn't be the case and they were going to just verify the prescription. Once she gets there they tell her that they are only going to verify the prescription on glasses she had filled with the bad prescription. Why would she have glasses made based on a bad prescription? They sent her away saying there was nothing else they could do. Now my mother has paid for a useless trip, will have to go somewhere else to get a correct prescription and put herself at risk to do so. This place doesn't care about their patients. They can't admit to mistakes - we are all human, it happens, but apparently not to them. They made my mother risk her health unnecessarily. Stay away. They treat people like cattle through an assembly line. read more

Went in for my yearly review on Saturday to find out they had ordered the wrong type of glasses last year so it's no wonder my vision has been so blurry. Picked out my pair of glasses before the exam because I knew I would be getting my eyes dilated. Came out of the exam and sat down to order my glasses and was sent to the cashier to pay and noticed my chosen frames had been marked up tremendously. When I pointed this out was told I would have to wait again to see a tech on the floor or be called on Monday. Told them not to worry about it because this was poor customer service. Guess they figured with my eyes dilated I wouldn't be able to see such a big markup. Really disappointed in the way this matter was handled especially when they were aware that they had made such a tremendous mistake the year prior. read more

My mom needs cataract eye surgery and I found this place for her (found them on Yelp and I was motivated to call them for a consultation due to awesome reviews/ratings). I plan to be my mom's Chinese interpreter. Instead of telling me it's $xxx.00 per consultation, they verified my mom's insurance coverage and it's zero co-pay. It's quite easy to make an appointment with them. Long story short, things changed when I received the confirmation by text 2 days ago, I got to find out that they assigned a glaucoma specialist (Dr. Bac Nguyen) for her cataract consultation!!!! Wow!!!! This doesn't make any sense at all!!! I just called them up and they said they had no clue about the assignment. For all our inquiry/request (by email and over the phone), I never mentioned glaucoma!!!! I left a message for the office manager but no reply just yet. Anyway, due to my tight schedule (work deadline is this Friday), I had to cancel the consultation appointment (losing almost my entire work day for this bogus visit??? Why??). Honestly, my mom was disappointed as she was looking forward to it. I told her what's going on and she got it. At this point, we will just go to other referred places for consultation. read more
