If you're looking for the best possible outcome with your teeth and smile, Dr. Au's a must! I've rarely come across someone so committed and focused on doing all she can to achieve the best results. She runs her practice with keen attention to all details. In addition, her staff are so nice, which adds up to a very pleasant atmosphere. Unfortunately, I wound up here after a bad experience with a previous dentist, reviewed in 2021. Even though I'm not at all interested in having cosmetic dentistry done, a bad chain of decisions on my part, trusting a dentist who I didn't realize at the time, was leading me towards cosmetic work, left me needing it (ironic). That experience led me to change my long term dentist, who in turn, recommended Dr. Au, for work he wasn't able to provide. I resisted completing the work begun by my past dentist for years after my bad experience. Finally, about two months ago, I decided to just deal with it and be done. Prior to that, I just kept coming here every year or two, so that she could make my four temporary veneers look less stained. The idea of shaving down healthy teeth to install expensive permanent crowns for cosmetic reasons, isn't my thing. As I mention in my 2021 review of that dentist, I'm from the '60's, a time when people weren't as concerned about having perfect looking teeth. I actually find real, healthy looking teeth, that have some character, refreshing. I was a bit surprised by how much goes into getting permanent crowns. It's a big investment in both time and money. I feel that Dr. Au made it the most affordable it could be. My four new teeth look great, especially after living with those stained temporary veneers for so long. Hopefully now I can put all this behind me. Be careful who you trust! read more

Dr. Amy S. and her assistants were very nice in helping my dad with his dental work. We were unsure and she took her time to go over all options and didn't make us feel pressured to make a decision that day. You can tell she is very intelligent and detailed oriented to her patients. She asks questions to make sure she understands fully before giving her advice. She is very soft spoken and polite but a leader and knows when she needs to take control. It was $237 without insurance but they let us know that for our insurance we can send the receipt and bill them. Not sure if that applies to everyone but we have Alameda alliance. Parking was very easy and spacious as they have their own parking lot. 10/10 would recommend read more

Dr. Au is the sweetest and most patient dentist!! I'm in the dental field so I'm very particular about my teeth and went on recommendation! I wanted a Prosthodontist (someone who goes to school for an extra few years to learn about implants and crowns) and am so grateful I found this office. Marilyn in the front knows me by name and is always the person I talk to on the phone- love the consistency!!! They are very accommodating and also love the parking lot because otherwise it can be a hassle to find a spot in this area. The first times I came they were out of network with my insurance (Marilyn helped me figure out submitting), with my new insurance they're in network. I had the exact same experience as reviewer from 7/31/2018. I called to schedule an appointment with Dr. Curtis who is in network with Delta Dental. When I arrived for my appointment, I was seen by Dr. Au (out of network) and they did not inform me of this at the time of my appointment. In fact, I just figured this out 10 months later as I am still dealing with this billing issue. Very unprofessional and rude every time I call. I came to Dr. Au's practice new this year. After many years of difficult dental issues, and experience with a series of different dental providers, I can already tell that Dr. Au is exceptional. She conducted a thorough, almost textbook-like, examination on my 1st appt. Subsequently, she gave me 2 fillings - one replacement and one new. She also created a custom nightmare for me. I am a full-time student, and my finances are very limited. However, I strongly value my health, and I use my limited financial resources to take care of my body, as I understand that it is an investment in my future. I had been a patient of this practice since December 2019, at which time I was a patient of Dr. Curtis, who was an in-network provider. When she retired, I became Dr. Amy Au's patient. At no time was I explicitly told by Dr. Au or any member of her staff that she did not take my insurance. It is only after close inspection that I see now that she had Replied All to an e-mail sent to me by Dr. Curtis in August 2020 (that had the wildly deceiving subject line of "Happy Saturday from Berkeley Prosthodontics Dental Office"), where she mentioned that she was "out-in-network". I can agree, she did not withhold this information entirely, but this is a far cry from transparency. This tactic of communicating such an impactful aspect of my healthcare was sneaky, at best. Rather than communicating the very real financial implications of this switch to her patients over the phone or in-person at any time to make certain their understanding, she chose not to, I presume, hoping that people like me would not read carefully enough to know the truth. Further, at our appointment in January 2022, I had mentioned to her that my finances were extremely restricted, and that this would only become more of an issue in the coming months. (Again, this would have been an excellent time to talk to me about how she was an out-of-network provider and I was paying much more for services than I would with an in-network provider, but she did not.) I told her that if there was any dental work she could foresee me needing in the next 3-5 years, I would like to get it taken care of at that time. She told me there was nothing she was watching and that she did not anticipate I would need anything beyond a routine cleaning for the next 3-5 years. However, when I came in for my cleaning last week, she told me that she had been watching two fillings for some time, and that she would like to now have them redone. While I understand that circumstances change, the way she spoke of the issue seemed to suggest that these were issues she had known about and had been tracking, which was exactly what she had told me was NOT the case, just 6 months before. Why she was not originally forthright is unclear to me. When I spoke to Marilyn on the phone about these concerns, she notified me that I have been making all of my payments for the past few years, as if that was justification for me knowing about the practice's out-of-network status. It is true. I have diligently paid for my dental services, and always on time. I have fully held up my end of the commitment. Unfortunately, I was not aware of the terms of that commitment because they were not made clear to me beyond a single sentence in an e-mail that wasn't even originally from Dr. Amy Au. I would expect more integrity from my medical providers, and I will be seeking services elsewhere. read more

I originally went to Dr Au for a several implants, including a couple of tricky ones. All went extremely well. I was impressed with her professionalism and perfectionism and positive attitude. She is also really sweet. Her entire office staff reflects this happy atmosphere. She was very good in outlining costs and options and making sure I understood exactly what was involved with each procedure. I was so happy with the implants that I decided to have her do some cosmetic work on my old stained front teeth; the results were incredible and my new smile has been noticed by friends.
