I have been going to Dr. Cox for almost two decades and adore the office and the care I recieve.

Horrible dentist. Do not go here. Place is dirty. The dentist had the administrative assistant call me two weeks after my appointment alleging that I had a cavity. She did not say I had any cavities when I was in the office. I said I will have to get a second opinion. I went to my former dentist who is amazing and has a clean office in SF. She also examined my X-rays and teeth and concluded I did not have any cavities! My dentist before scam artist Cynthia Cox DDS also concluded that I did not have any cavities. I called the scammers back to tell them I am no longer a patient and please destroy my files, when I received another call from her office that they are having trouble billing my insurance again for a visit in July. WTF. They are fraudulent scammers trying to milk every cent of my dental insurance allotment. I repeat DO NOT go here. They will try and shake you and your insurance down for as much money as possible! Now I will be reporting them to the CA Dental Board and filing a claim with my insurance company. read more

Dr. Cox is the is an excellent dentist. She is highly skilled and and got me over my fear of pain during fillings. I had such an awful experience previously with 2 dentists in the same practice in SF who could not get me numb, to the point I would have to leave and come back again. When I started seeing Dr. Cox she was incredibly patient with me because I was tense to say the least to the point of tears. She had no problem finding the area of the nerve and then repeatedly made sure I felt no pain at all. She is an artist with the numbing needle. She prepped the area of my cheek and gum so well I barely felt a pinch. Over the past 15 years she has replaced my metal fillings, fitted me for a nightguard and replaced a crown. She is down to earth, smart and personable. I have referred at least 4 friends and they all love her. The hygenists are all very, very good also. They all are dental geeks, including Dr. Cox, she loves the science/health aspect of dentistry. read more

Dr. Cox is amazing. I had to have a number of procedures this past year, including fillings, cleanings etc. Along each step of the way, Dr. Cox explained everything to me in a way that was easy to understand but not condescending in the least. It is so difficult to find any doctor who knows both how to communicate information in a way that non-medical professionals can understand but also make the patient feel respected and taken seriously. I've so rarely met any medical professional who takes the time to really explain things to patients in this way. On top of that, she is really friendly and nice! I trust her advice and feel confident that she has my health (not my insurance money) in mind. Dr. Cox also has an amazing network of specialists and referred me to an endodontist and to an oral surgeon for other procedures, both of whom did a great job. Never had a better experience at a dental office. Dr Cox and her staff are super. I have had some old fillings and crowns replaced and they are always patient, accomodating, professional, and gentle. Excellent dentist for nervous patients, as they take the time to explain in detail every step they are going through and let you know what to expect, even during cleanings. It has come to my attention that I only review things on Yelp if i had a 5 star experience. Dr. Cox is no exception. I had not been to the dentist in around 10 years, which is a very long time for someone in her mid 20s! As expected, I had a ton of cavities. Dr. Cox was super nice about it (by far the nicest health care professional I have ever met), and didn't make me feel bad at all. Pia, her assistant, was also very charming. It took 5 sessions to get everything filled, but I didn't dread the visits at all. Dr. Cox is a super interesting person to have a conversation with (as much as you can do while someone is drilling your teeth), and the time passed quickly. I was on the verge of needing a root canal, but she informed me that she had just learned about this new product at a seminar that might prevent needing one, so we gave it a go. Dr. Cox and the whole staff at Pacific Dental is great. A coworker recommended them when in the middle of the day at work my front tooth just feel out (it was a cap from a childhood playground accident). Needless to say I was traumatized and my coworker called her cell and she had me come right over. She was so thoughtful and understanding and she figured out what had happened and fixed my tooth right up. They also have nitrous (which is a bit expensive but worth it when your in for a long procedure), and work with your insurance company so you don't have to fill out any paperwork. I am so thankful I found Dr. Cox, she makes going to the dentist so much less painful. read more

A friend suggested that I call Dr. Cynthia Cox in Oakland (near Neldham's Bakery) for an appointment. I was very impressed with how I was treated over the phone. Ann was willing to answer all my questions and even checked with my dental insurance to confirm what I would have to pay out of pocket. My first visit went very well. Dr. Cox really listened to everything I told her. She went over every detail of the intake questionnaire. Pia, her assistant, is very warm and friendly. She is also a lightening quick x-ray tech and made biting down on all those odd hoobie-dobbies almost bearable. Dr. Cox actually did my first cleaning and I love my shiny, new smile! read more

These guys rock. Simple, clean, fast. Kim, aside from being a fabulous, easy going dental assistant, is also an insurance whiz. She dealt with dingus me ("I haz no idea wat is my insurinse?") and found out everything my plan covered, without me having to lift a finger. Talk about an angel. Dr. Zavaterro is a great dentist with wonderful bedside manner. He answered my questions thoroughly and politely, when most dentists just look at me exasperatedly when I tell them I want to know what's going on inside my mouth. He has loads of patience, and listens to you. These guys handle control freaks (moi) pretty well. I can't recommend them enough. read more

The last time I came here the experience was the worst I have ever had with any dentist. I had a cavity that needed help and so i went in. I have bad gums and the dentist Dr. Zavaterro recommended i go to a gum specialist he is associated with. I couldn't afford that option so i brought up that I have a an uncle in Mexico that is a really talented dentist and that could recommend me to one of his associates for gum work. The doctor then proceeded to go on a rant about how instead of wasting his time I should go to Mexico and get my cavity fixed there. He literally shamed me for being a lower income and a minority (latino) and implied that Mexican dentists are inferior to American ones. Which is absolutely not true, Mexico like any other modern country has many great & experienced professionals in the medical industry. Unfortunately dental work is cheaper down their due to economic disadvantage so that is an option some of us Americans have to consider when we can't afford the high price of dental work in the USA. You would think that with Donald Trump being president most of us California-folk are trying differentiate ourselves from the classism and racism being pushed by the far-right. I get that even racists could be good dentists. But I would rather not go to a racist one who shames me for my income read more

The older woman who is their receptionist seemed extremely put out and inconvenienced when I discovered our dental care provider had changed due to a job change. I am not going back, and I am canceling all appointments for my wife and my child. You should step the customer service up. read more

Just have to tell everyone that Dr. Cynthia Cox has been a literal lifesaver time and time again with nearly every member of our family. She is extremely compassionate and technically brilliant - we've had a number of difficult dental problems and she ALWAYS not only solves the difficulties but comes up with novel approaches that have saved us both pain and (when possible) excessive expense. We feel really fortunate to have found her through a friend when we moved here six years ago from Naples, Florida. The whole staff is friendly and helpful. I had been scared of dentists since my horrible childhood experiences with them, back in Russia. When I found Doctor Zavattaro, it was a true blessing. Not only he is the brilliant dentist but he also understands medical trauma, and is being extremely soothing, calming and understanding with people like me suffering from dentophobia. The only problem is that I am self-employed, and it' impossible to find individual dental insurance plan that covers all expensive services. Otherwise, i would see Doctor Zavattero and his wonderful staff on regular basis. read more

Dr. Cox is great! I found her through my dental insurance and then I searched on Yelp to read reviews. All the reviews were stunning so I made an appointment. She hurt her arm a few months ago so her availability wasn't great. I was willing to wait so I made an appointment for a little over a month away. It was worth the wait! She is friendly and pleasant and she has a great sense of humor! She's also very thoughtful and wants to make sure you understand everything that's happening and is open to questions. I had a filling done on the second visit and she was super careful and gentle. I had absolutely no pain! She also called to follow up and make sure all was well :) Anne at the front desk took time to go over my insurance coverage and what I would pay out of pocket. She even mailed me a summary. Pia, the assistant is friendly and supportive. She took a thousand pictures (it seemed!) while having me bite down on the thingy (my dental lingo's not the best) and carried a wonderful conversation. Excellent dentist..excellent service. I have been a patient of Dr. Zavattero for years and will continue to use him until he retires! He has always been honest and direct, never pushing any extra or unnecessary treatment. He and his staff have always been friendly and concerned. On my last visit I had a crown put in. It took just 1 visit!!! Dr. Zavattero has a CEREC computer that scans and creates a 3-D image of the crown and then cuts it right in the office in just 15 minutes. After the doctor did some custom adjustments to ensure my bite was perfect, I was out of the office in 90 minutes. Now that's service! read more

Chipped off the bottom of my front tooth within the first two weeks in the Bay Area. Went to Zavattero on a whim hoping for the best. Mt husband and I have been seeing Cynthia Cox for over 10 years. She is a fabulous dentist, has a great presence with patients, and really goes out of her way to manage pain. Cynthia is one of the few professionals I've been to who really takes time to listen, and whose work is impeccable (commented on by oral surgeons and others). We've called her during emergencies (on vacation when my husband's tooth flared up with an infection) and she has always come through for us. I would never go to anyone else, even if I had to do it without insurance. We give her our highest recommendation. read more

I've been going to Dr. Z. since I was a kid (I'm in my mid 30s). He and the staff are wonderful and would recommend this office to anyone.

I had two crowns put on back molars that required 5 visits over a two-month period. Because of their location, it was necessary for Dr. Zavaterro to numb my jaw on each side prior to each visit. This required multiple injections of numbing agent on each visit. I have to say that he and his assistant, Kim, did a great job. Two months later I am feeling so much better that I had prior to my visits to Dr. Zavaterro. He clearly explained each procedure in advance and did a good job managing expectations. I would highly recommend Dr. Zavaterro for a solid, competent dentist in the downtown Oakland area. read more

I highly recommend Dr. Cynthia Cox. I will never go to another dentist. Where do I start? She really listens to my questions and concerns and explains things so well. Clearly very knowledgeable and up on the latest info. AND she seems genuinely concerned with my comfort. I just saw her to have an old filling (with more decay underneath) replaced. I mentioned that last time I did this my neck had been a bit sore when I got up from the chair. I told her I thought it had been due to feeling a little tense. So she loaned me her ipod, found some relaxing music on it, gave me a lavender eye pillow to use, and put a little pillow under my neck. (In addition her chair has a massage pad on it!). She has such a calm manner, which also helped with me feeling relaxed. Oh, and a couple of times during the treatment, when my lips got dry she applied some Burt's Bee's lip balm with a cotton swab. So thoughtful. The front office staff and Dr. Cox's assistant are also a pleasure. I never feel rushed there. It is simply the best dental office ever. read more

My family has been going to Dr. Z for YEARS... can't even remember for how long. We have had consistent professional, reliable dental care (and we are very picky about this kind of thing). The staff is very helpful and pleasant to each of us. Our hygenist (Kerry) always seems to have plenty of time to provide thorough care. Dental x-rays are done on up-to-date equipment. When we need any dental work from Dr. Z (not too often, thanks to good advice and a good hygenist) he has been so caring and careful. Can honestly say he does not 'push' unnecessary procedures, whether cosmetic or 'just because'. When you allow someone to 'take over' your mouth, you really want it to be a good experience. I can still recall some childhood experiences that nearly caused me to run from any adult dentists. Fear not, if Dr. Z is your guy!! read more

This was the worst dental experience ever. I recently moved to the Bay Area, and I was hoping to find a permanent dentist at the Pacific Dental Group. While there, I hoped to get my yearly x-rays and a cleaning. Unfortunately I wasn't told that the doctor was planning to go on a fishing trip, and that seemed to trump my level of care. As a result, I was given a very high-tech and extremely overpriced series of x-rays, after which the dentist decided to actually sit and talk to me. During this chat, he attempted to push me into spending lots of money on unnecessary dental work like getting new cosmetic fillings though I explained I was a graduate student in no position to pay large fees for dental work. After realizing I wasn't going to bite, he still suggested I get a filling for a cavity he couldn't even find on my "high-tech" x-ray. Needless to say, that was the first and last visit to this dentist office. Thank you very much, Dr. Zavattero - FOR NOTHING!!!! read more

I made an appointment at Pacific Dental following excellent online reviews of their services, and I have to say I was quite disappointed. I went in for a consultation for having my wisdom teeth removed, as I was in quite a lot of pain. They looked at my teeth, giving me a complete oral evaluation, and then went on to suggest that I get x-rays taken to assist in the extraction and to be forwarded to the dental surgeon they recommended. The charge for the photos was close to 400 dollars, way over-priced for this sort of procedure. To make matters worse, when I went to another oral surgeon to have the wisdom teeth removed, they could not even use these x-rays as they did not show the lower nerve in my jaw. So, pretty much I lost 300 dollars of my dental insurance for a set of x-rays that were useless to me. As a student with limited funds who relies heavily on insurance for dental procedures, I felt that this charge for the x-rays was unfounded and unfair. It seems that this dental office is more concerned with profits than with the well-being or financial constraints of its patients. read more
