Not my go to grocery store. I'd go there only in a pinch only if I didn't want to drive further somewhere else where the selection is better and prices are lower. What especially turned me off for this particular location was a deli clerk who was too busy doing nothing to wait on me even though I was the only customer at the deli. Produce dept smells . Prices are often work when items are in stock and service desk employees are rude. Worst berkots in the whole chain

My husband used to know the owner when it was a small chain; his loyalty blinds him. Despite being in a farming community the produce is consistently the worst I have ever seen. The photo below is what set me off - a simple bag of potatoes yielded only three that were edible. The rest were tender to the touch (rotting), ill-sized proportionately (cooking times rendered meaningless) or in need of an ICU. His bad is ever getting a bag of anything you cannot inspect individually. My bad is asking him for five potatoes for my clam chowder. Berkot's bad is selling produce of a quality equivalent to restaurant dumpster treasures in Bangladesh. The worst, however is hearing snippy comments TO CUSTOMERS about the young people who do the grunt work from Sue. Sweetie pie is so nice when it suits her but trashing these young kids in front of customers is revealing and sickening. Give a hand up - not a bash. read more

This store is a dump! You need to check the dates on everything! The deli closes hours before the store does! They wrap their "fresh baked" bread in cellophane! They are always understaffed at the checkouts. A dirty outdated store! read more

Of all the Berkot's this is hands down the worst of them all. There's always long lines at checkout, I've purchased rotten smelling meat a few times and the Deli employee turnover rate is ridiculous. Just give up. read more

This is the worst grocery store in town and only one. I would rather drive out of town. It has only one checker most times, takes too much time to check out. Waited 30 mins in line today, was 2cnd in line. Waiting for someone 21 to check out beer. They people behind me were even more pissed. Hire some freaking people or get new management! read more

Ridiculous. No masks - even employees not wearing. Inconsiderate and a danger for some of the elderly citizens of the town that the store serves. Manager/Owner needs to wake up help this spreading end like every other business. Will never shop in such an irresponsible store again with no regard to customer safety. read more

I have a lot of history with Berkots of Peotone and I'm very pleased with the prices and quality of the products. Peotone is a small town and is probably not a big profit maker for the owner. I think it is a well managed store but I feel that if you have a really good employees in the Deli that also are required to be a good chef of the Fried Chicken, Roasted Chicken and all the other prepared meals which require a food handling certification, that these employees are very important to your success and should be paid $25 dollars an hour so that they stick around and remain loyal to your business. I feel the same applies to your assistant managers and the butchers. Pay your employees and in the process have employees that come to work with a good attitude. Winning! read more

Margaret in the food section has to go to anger management Classes i recently visited the store and she had the worst attitude ever, she is not suppose to treat clients with an attitude neither talk to them the way she talked to us. I just Hope anyone can else would not go through this horrible situation. read more

I would love to support this small local business but there is no effort on their part to make the shopping experience at all easy. Lines are long... 20 minutes last two times I've been there and you constantly have to check expiration dates. Just ended up throwing half of my strawberries out that were bad I just purchased today. There is usually only one cashier and no bagger I feel horrible for what they have to go through and they are always pleasant despite this. With the amount of business they will lose you think they could hire another cashier and bagger. I'm going to start going out of town unfortunately. read more

I've only lived near Peotone for about four years... I have always gone to Berkot's in Peotone for small things or "quick pick ups" it's always kinda busy and one line is open....today (12/23/19) I walked in with my three younger sisters. We went in to get some last minute things for dinner for the night and while standing in line to pay for the couple of things the cashier, who seemed be a women in her 50s or so, called out my little sister (who is only 6) and tells her she shouldn't be talking the same way she does... WHAT THE HELL?! Are you kidding me? My little sister struggles with a speech impediment and after hearing that lady say that to MY sister and seeing my sister get quiet and tear up broke my heart! I hope this lady has a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS, because good job for making a little girl cry! Absolutely unnecessary and irritating! Everyone behind me heard and saw it happen too. Very upsetting! read more
