I was able to stay with my mom 24/7 thanks to the cafeteria, which sells fresh, affordable meals. I can't speak for other people's experiences but I am very surprised that HopeHeath doesn't have a 5-star rating. My family and I will always be so grateful that we found this hospice. They helped us make the last days of my mother's life so much better. Cannot recommend enough.

My mother-in-law was a resident at Wingate Residences on the East Side for 2.5 years - for most of…read morethat time in a lovely apartment on the Assisted Living side. Our family was impressed with the caring floor staff, activities, meals, grounds, pool, and convenient location. When COVID hit, the facility did as much as they could to keep everyone safe during incredibly challenging circumstances. Unfortunately, near the end of Mom's time at Wingate, she had a sudden medical crisis that resulted in her being moved to the Memory Care side and put on hospice, just at the time a new Nursing Director named Misty Keough came on board there. Misty exhibited a very troubling ignorance about hospice, end of life care, and Alzheimer's. She was also horribly antagonistic toward our family and the hospice personnel. (Her unprofessional behavior was witnessed not just by our family and the hospice nurses, but also our private aides and members of her own floor staff.) In conversation with our family, Misty was demonstrably contemptuous of hospice care. On various occasions she referred to hospice, pro-hospice people, and the use of comfort meds on one's deathbed - as "euthanizers." Her gatekeeping behavior resulted in the truly horrible and unnecessary suffering of our mom on her deathbed. (Misty literally refused our aide's and family's requests and pleas for comfort meds on the last day of our Mom's life - until the hospice nurse forcefully confronted Misty. Misty actually threatened to kick me out of the building that day, when I reported our mom in distress.) In the days preceding Mom's death, when she could no longer swallow, the hospice nurse left specific orders to quit force-feeding her because it caused her to aspirate. Misty overruled that order and told her staff to continue - resulting in painful episodes of Mom choking and vomiting. The reason I'm not leaving a single star on this review is that to Corporate Wingate's credit, when their leaders found out about Misty's actions, they took the matter extremely seriously. The VP Chris Stack responded immediately - reassuring our family that Wingate as a company was not anti-hospice, and that the entire staff at Wingate would undergo extensive training so that this situation would never happen again. The Exec. Director Vincent Messina, to his credit, was also immediately receptive to hospice training for Misty and his staff. Last bit of advice - for families looking specifically for Memory Care - I would suggest you look at the Wingate Blackstone facility nearby instead. It's recently renovated, has two levels of memory care, and has a proper medical director/doctor on site.

Beacon Hospice was not there at all in the last days of my father's illness. We could not get a…read morenurse or doctor from Beacon to come into the nursing home where my father was to assess his pain. Because we had agreed to palliative care for my father, the nurses at the nursing home could not do anything for pain management without going through Beacon Hospice. The nurses and staff at Beacon were unresponsive to the nursing homes phone calls. When the nursing home finally got someone to call back, the night before my father passed, I took the phone call. I explained to the nurse from Beacon that my father was in pain and I wanted to have someone come to help and administer medication that could help comfort him. The nurse from Beacon had screaming kids in the background and barely gave me the time of day. I was told someone would come the next day. No one came. My father passed that next evening and suffered in the days leading up to his passing. I would caution anyone who agrees to using Beacon Hospice. Especially if your loved one is in a Nursing Home. Once you agree to using them then all administration and approval of testing and medications goes through them instead of directly from the nursing home. All this does is create another layer that you have to go through to get care for your loved one.

They explained every step and answered any questions we had.. Most importantly they made sure my dad would be as comfortable as possible. Today, I received a card in the mail from them signed by multiple people who work there.. Losing my father has hit my heart in ways I'm not sure I can come back from but it's comforting to know that my family and I have met some great people along the way If you or someone you know has a loved one in need of hospice care I strongly recommend Beacon.

A brusque woman took my name and # and told me someone would get right back to me. No one ever called back. Pretty lame, eh? Again, I know from dealing with another Hospice organization that they do such hard, important jobs, but JEEZ.

I witnessed horrifying scenarios daily there, and called my friends to come rescue me but after my roommate called and threatened the administrator with legal action, they visited me and responded to my complaints... I was convinced to stay the last five days so I could be discharged with the so-called home care package of in-home follow up therapy visits for my recovery because if I had left early, I would've gone home against doctors orders and been denied that Health service. I don't even know if it was worth it at this point because of how it felt to be in there... I just experienced another terrible episode of bad Healthcare at the Elmhurst facility at 50 Maude St. in Providence but as bad as that place was, Lincolnwood was much worse. Stay far away.

We transferred my dad from another assisted living to St. Elizabeth's a little over a month ago. Every time I come here, the staff is always smiling & friendly, the place is clean, & my dad looks well cared for. Administration is very helpful as well & very prompt handling any concerns. My dad likes the food too, which is great! He barely ate at the last place because the food was terrible. The building is in the old side. Seems to be a bit of delay transitioning from heat to AC when the weather warms up, but I'm told this is common for most facilities. It's been maintained well, but the windows definitely need to be replaced. Besides that, my dad's only complaint so far is the room size, but he opted for the smaller room & it IS bigger that the room he had at the other place; larger ones are available. The have a lot of places for family to gather. They also have 2 kitchens the residents can use to cook/entertain, a small gym-like room, a chapel, snack area, 2 sunrooms, a salon, & lots of TVs if residents want to get out of their rooms. And other rooms that I know I'm forgetting. Very happy so far.

Home Instead apparently has issues when CNAs call in sick...etc. and apparently do not have ample staff to cover such events (surprising as this is their business). This has caused our family many issues due to last minute cancelations which is sort of ironic as we need to give 7 days notice for schedule changes but they can do it to us at the drop of a dime. What is VERY upsetting is that recently we gave notice that we would be making a change for our mother's care and gave 7 days notice. Yesterday we received a call telling us that the CNA scheduled could not come for the remaining several days and that there was no replacement either. Thanks for being professional Home Instead!!! Nothing like putting it to us / and our mother on the way out. I only hope that this review doesn't mysteriously disappear like some of the others I see out there. I would urge anyone looking for CNA services to ask a lot of questions and be prepared to jump in at the last minute and cover for the inevitable scheduling issues which we experienced far too often..... oh - and dont tell them your leaving until the last minute or they will leave you hanging!
