Came for a birthday jazz show, drinks and snacks and had an incredible time. The setting in North Loop Minneapolis sets you up for a nice time (besides parking). The atmosphere of the place gives a nice relaxed and colorful vibe, and the drinks and food menu had a stunning variety. The music was performed by Javier Hernandez and his band and was beautiful. The music here will change day to day, but on this Friday evening ours was beautiful. It included piano, trumpet, bongos, drums and bass. Staff were all attentive without being overbearing and allowed us to enjoy the music, and the food ended up being fantastic. We got deviled eggs (some of the best I've ever had) and Okonomiyaki which in this case was a variation of fried sweet potato and was delicious. Drink variety ranges from fruity cocktails to wine to N.A. beer and they had something for everyone. My only complaint of the evening was the booth we sat in was not very comfortable and it required a lot of fidgeting. Other than this 5/5 experience. read more

Beautiful spot! I loved the show, and felt so immersed. The candlit setting was very romantic and cozy, and I felt so into the show! I went on a night where the Berlin donated all proceeds to the Immigrant Defense Network, and I appreciated seeing them stand with their community. The staff explained the cause, and why they participated in the no buy day. This place was worth the hype, I put off going for months, but will be going back! Next time I go, I'll need to try a snack or get a drink! I think it would really elevate the experience. read more

We were in Minneapolis a couple weeks ago for a week. Its been fun the last few trips to see where the town we are in sets up the local jazz. I had already been to another spot that was solid. But we wanted to try Berlin. We found parking pretty easily right neat the place. It was pretty full, but we got seats near the back, but elevated so a great view. There was a group of people playing a bit of fun jazz. We got a couple good drinks and enjoyed the tunes. They switched out people a few times, with one guy coming out doing a great karaoke jam that hit some amazing notes. It was a nice mix of musicians. It had a college campus energy. We were some of the oldest people there, which was cool. The youthful energy was somewhat unique from any spot I have been to recently. read more

I celebrated my 76th birthday at Berlin with friends last Friday night. A woman trumpet player was introducing the world to her new album. Her playing was good, but very esoteric. At the bar, most of the music was in the background, as I proceeded to get buzzed. One of my friends used belittling language addressing a female bartender, calling her young lady, not terrible, but I knew it was time to hustle him out of there. I had a great time despite my buddy's faux pas. I tried to apologize, but it was too late. I hope I can return because Berlin is a great bar. read more

Very cozy space, drinks are good, have been here several times and never disappointed

I've been curious about Berlin, but I really wanted to see room3 in the sort of place they deserve to be. Not that they aren't great at a street festival or basement party, but Berlin provides the perfect mellow, classy, jazz vibe. The sound system is great too; you aren't really aware that it's a sound system, you just hear the band playing. I appreciated the parking advice on the website, but in the end the valet parking was full since it was the late show. However, the valets pointed me towards a street parking place I'd missed, so I zipped over and ended up parking for cheap since the city doesn't charge after 10 pm. I was seated at a table fairly quickly, and soon had my drink choice in hand. Since I was driving, it was not one of the very interesting cocktails, but a mild THC beverage I knew I could handle. That just gave me more of an excuse to try a "listening snack". I chose the cauliflower fritters which were big enough to share, but I had no problem eating it all; the cauliflower was still a bit crisp, the crust was evenly crusty, and the sauce was perfectly matched. The servers were like shadows, getting around to the tables without disturbing the music experience. After room3's set was done, which came too fast for me, I got a look at the bathrooms. 2 nicely decorated one seaters. and a real scented candle! Having been there a few more times, it's been one of my top 3 favorite spots in Northloop. I tried a few new cocktails and food, everything is amazing. For the non-alcoholic drinks, the miso old fashioned is definitely worthy, I am not a huge fan of mocktails, but they really nailed it, sweet and savory, no need to imagine too hard on the alcohol. The brow butter came with cherry upside down cake is another highlight, very nicely done! Salmon crudo is one of the kind, highly recommended. Services have been consistently non-intrusive which is crucial for a jazz bar to serve food and drink. Thank you! I've watched 5-6 shows in the past a few weeks, wow, never a show disappointed. In a way, I think it beats Dakota, as you will have 3 shows from early evening to late night, if you don't like planning, just a spontaneous idea to have a jazzy night, you can easily have one here. read more

Visited 12/30/24. I would give Berlin a 3.5/5 on vibes alone but not necessarily due to food. Give yourself a chunk of time in advance to park because it's in North Loop (aka the hardest area to find parking in twin cities lol) but once you're in, it's all walk in. Our group of 4 got there at 5 and at that point it wasn't busy at all. Really started to pick up around 6 or so. Super fun drink options and honestly I would come back for the music and bar alone. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable, but definitely seemed like she had her hands full as the place picked up (she was awesome throughout all of this). Our party ordered: savory monkey bread, taleggio and pine honey pizza, fried chicken katsu sandwich, ricotta and spinach gnudi, and cauliflower fritters. Sadly none of this really stood out in a way that I would want to get anything again. My favorite of these that I tried was the flavor of the pizza (size was pretty small for price point) and the gnudi. Would not recommend the katsu sandwich. Definitely recommend it for the experience and drinks and music, but not necessarily for the food at this point! read more

Stopped in Berlin for a couple of drinks before a dinner reservation and overall it was good! We arrived around 6 pm and there were plenty of tables available but we opted for the bar facing towards the stage. We ordered a glass of Sauvignon blanc, Aperol spritz, and my husband wanted something light and refreshing so the bartender made him a gin cocktail not on the menu, which was tasty! The live music was good and the cocktails were cold and delicious. Berlin has a chill, upscale vibe, which was great for our date night out. We'll be back to try other cocktails and maybe their food too! read more

After my 1st visit, I am dying to go back to listen to some live jazz music at Berlin! This place is beyond dreamy, and magical - it is a slice of jazz heaven The staff was incredibly friendly and polite. The menu is small, but delicious. I enjoyed a yummy THC drink. Great atmosphere and beverages! We did not have any food, but the beverages didn't disappoint. I wish there was jazz music playing at all times because when we went before a show there was folk music playing. The highlight was salmon crudo, cauliflower fritter and upside down cherry cake with amaretto whip cream. The pizza could be better, we thought it was a little dough-y. The shrimp could've been better also, it was a little grainy for our taste. The old fashioned was also good for a drink to sip throughout the show. Stopped into Berlin for a drink and some jazz before a Porzana reservation. Loved the vibes, with the small intimate tables, candlelights, etc. I was a little disappointed as I was looking forward to jazz but it was a folk band. They do post the schedule though so if you're able to find the bands ahead of time you could scope out the type of music. I definitely want to go back for a late-evening jazz experience sometime soon. So glad we have a place like this in Minneapolis! read more

Always come here for cherry pit and end up having a great time ! Only thing is the prices are very high for the small food portion sizes, and honestly the food isn't very good. I went here with a friend and had an ABSOLUTE BLAST!!! I didn't really know what to expect when I walked in but was greeted by a warmly lit room and incredibly friendly hostess. She walked us to our table which was located right in front of the band. Our waitress came over quickly and was very attentive throughout the course of our time there. I ordered an extra dirty gin martini which was $12; a price I found INCREDIBLY fair. The amount of olive juice was the perfect amount and the blue cheese stuffed olive was wonderful. The band was super fun and took breaks to give time for chatting. The one thing I will note is that the music (especially in front) is VERY loud and doesn't leave any room for talking and even hearing the waitress was tough. Overall though, it was a super fun and hip spot and I will definitely be coming back!!! read more

Great ambiance but from the minute we walked in the service was not great. It was my first time there so I had no idea what to expect. It was highly unorganized and the staff made us feel unwelcome. When we were finally seated, despite open tables, we felt able to relax & enjoy the music! Music was 10/10! We didn't have any food so I can't comment on that. One example of the staff not being up to par is that there was one song left & the server decided that was the time to clear tables. The bar remained open after the last song so it wasn't a matter of them trying to get out of there for the night. And even if it was, don't walk in front of everyone during the last song. read more

I've been to The Berlin about six times and have been disappointed each time. A drummer playing a wooden box with switches accompanied by a trumpet player with no mouthpiece. Another time , a trio each playing different songs at the same time . Isn't there any groups in the twin cities that play regular jazz( Take Five etc). The music has been excruciating and I couldn't finish my drink fast enough to get out of there. read more

My husband and I sat at the bar and had a variety of small plates and "Mocktails". The shrimp cocktail was extraordinary and the drinks were delicious! The wait staff was friendly and the jazz music was so much fun. Our favorite was the bar manager: Ruby. She was very accommodating and creative.
