Wonderful, intimate spot in Minneapolis. On our last night before returning home, Flora Room seemed as if it would fit the bill for our cocktail fix. Relatively easy to find, though you do have to hunt a little bit, Flora Room sits behind a nondescript metal door leading down a short hallway to the entrance. Take a long moment to allow your eyes to adjust if you're coming before sunset; this space is DARK. It's also perfect. Once your "night vision" kicks in you're surrounded by a nice bar, numerous bistro-style tables and booths. Candles adorn the tables creating a nice, cozy place to settle in for drinks. Once seated in comfortable chairs at a table, we were quickly greeted and provided with menus. The cocktail selection is relatively "small" but really nicely varied. Prices seemed a tad steep but frankly, given the quality of the drinks I'd say quite worth it. I started out with the Evita, a nice flavorful gin-base cocktail topped with a nice egg white foam. Very tasty. My wife opted for the Tapaculo, with gin, mezcal, pineapple, banana and bitters over ice. Also quite good. There are also bites available from the associated restaurant I can't recall the name of mine but I can say it was delicious. Bread-like bites with a really tasty dipping sauce. To close out the visit I selected Palo, a smoked aged rum cocktail that was really nice and rich. My wife chose the Nahualito with rum, walnut, amontillado and white chocolate. All should be on your radar. Flora Room really fit the bill for a nice, intimate speakeasy-style spot to spend time. Dark and cozy. Savory cocktails and friendly service will stand out and make you want to return. I know we'll seek it out if we return to Minneapolis again. I hope so. read more

Flora Room is a gorgeous cocktail bar located behind and beneath Chef Del Prado's steakhouse Porzana. Fortunately, I arrived at 5:30 PM on a Saturday, which was early enough to avoid a line and a velvet rope. I don't wait in line for anything unless I'm at a pharmacy, bakery, post office, or airport. Lines at restaurants and bars strike me as pretentious or bad management, and I don't tolerate either. However, I'm old, and at my age, nothing is worth waiting for unless it's a necessity. I found a seat at the beautiful and expansive bar and looked around at the Del Prado design. The colors might be different, but Flora was reminiscent of Minari and Noma. All three add to the Twin Cities' cachet. However, I was taken aback by the attire I saw around me. People were dressed in shorts, T-shirts, and sneakers. It's friggen Saturday night Minneapolis. Have some class! Flora Room was a lovely cocktail lounge, perfect for wooing, but don't expect to strike up a conversation with any of the bartenders. At these Del Prado joints, the staff must be trained not to engage. I'm out alone and enjoy talking. Bartenders used to be part of a lounge's attraction when I grew up in NYC. They learned your name, knew what you did, and gave you a hearty welcome. That, I guess, is not part of the culture in Minneapolis. Well, at least not at the Del Prado restaurants and bars. Chef Del Prado is from Argentina, and certainly, Argentina is one of the warmest and friendliest countries in the world, so I don't get it. I now live up the block from the Flora Room. I'm a neighbor and would like to be treated like one. Neighborly and the Flora Room are distant concepts. read more

Went on a Wednesday after dinner and it was surprisingly busy! There is valet parking, which helps a lot I loved the moody greenery (dark green walls, floral prints). Our booth was comfortable and felt cozy. We had some snacks and drinks. The fries came out pipping hot (burned my fingers) and we ordered extra sauce for the second round because they were delicious. I also really liked the empanadas- they were filling with a nice amount of sauce. Two of our group also enjoyed they oysters (with optional add-on caviar). This place has vibes! Swooped in with a decent size group (8) on a Saturday night so we had a bit of a wait, to be expected, but the host was super cool and got us squared away in fair time. This was my first trip and the space is small ish? Solid space for small groups, we definitely stretched the limits but they made it happen for us. The vibes are dark and moody, think, greenhouse at night with candlelights. Drinks were north loop pricing ($15-18) and all well crafted. I'd definitely recommend checking out and plan to go back. Located where the old Marvel Bar used to be. You'll need ID to enter, 21+. It's very dim inside so don't count on too many photo ops. Unless of course you intend to use additional lighting. That said, viewing the menu was quite the challenge, but the the server must have noticed me using my flash and brought over a little lamp which was helpful. Other than that he did seem rather standoffish, but that didn't damper things for my friend and I who enjoyed ourselves. We both got the burger which was good, but eventually began falling apart due to the sauciness. To avoid that, just cut yours in half (which I should have done). To drink I got the Tuco Tuco which was very delicious, not super strong, nor overly sweet. I would get again! She got the Old Fashioned which I typically don't like due to how strong it can be. However, theirs wasn't; it was good. It's not cheap place, and the menu isn't extensive for a full meal. However, it's cool bar to visit for a drink or two before a night out, or to take someone when you want to feel hip and swanky. This is what I like to call a happy accident lol. We were going to stop at the hewing hotel for a cocktail, but I didn't find anything to be too exciting there. Looked up the spot which was around the corner and when we got there saw there was already a little line. It's got that underground speakeasy Vibe so we were happy to wait a little bit. It took only about 10 minutes maybe at the door. Inside it's very dimly lit and kind of sexy with a lot of warm candlelight lighting. This place would've gotten a five star, but we actually got seated at our table and waited over 10 minutes for a server to come by while we watched him bust tables refill peoples water etc, even though he had seen us get seated. I always find that a little frustrating as it was definitely busy, but I think attending to guests first is important. What I will say is the menu is pretty outstanding. I love the design of it and the creativity of everything. The drinks we had were perfectly mixed and delivered in a very creative way. We ended up getting a slice of the chocolate torte and my God. It was one of the best desserts I've ever had in my life. I would be willing to fight somebody for another slice lol. The atmosphere is super cool, the cocktails feature more complex liqueurs and mixers. Our drinks were okay, I prefer a simpler cocktail so I asked for something that wasn't featured on their menu. They didn't have fruit so they substituted with a liqueur which didn't work well. Our server was attentive with filling waters and such but didn't share much menu or recommendation wise. I'd go back but definitely stick to the menu. We came after dinner so we didn't get any food but I'm sure the food is incredible since it comes from upstairs at Porzana. read more

Such a cute spot underneath Porzana! I love the vibes and the music is the perfect volume - not too loud, which makes it easy to hear whomever you're talking to. The espresso martini may actually be the best I've had yet! It was delightfully sweet, but not overly sweet. Bar staff is really nice and the booths are so comfy. I got the pichi drink and it was really good! I stayed away from the stuff on the glass because I think it was spicy, but the drink itself was great! Went on a Saturday right around 6pm, pretty early, but a really good time to come because it was not yet too packed and we got to pick if we wanted the bar or a table. We ended going with the bar. Ordered some cocktails and eventually ended up ordering the burger, burrata, and the tallow fries. MY GOSHHH. Everything was incredible. The fries were light and crispy with the perfect amount of salty flavor, served with a ketchup and a nice aioli. The burger.. yep.. I will definitely be back here for this burger. A lovely smash burger on a light, lovely, pillowy bun with the lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles on the side so you could add as much (or as little) as you liked. Amazing and incredible. 10 outta 10. The burrata was good.. not my favorite way to eat it.. the bread it was served on was a little too crispy and just didn't serve the burrata in the best way, but nonetheless.. not bad at all. This is underneath Porzana.. so you need to go the back of the building and down some stairs and through the sage green door. At least this place isn't in the back of a bodega, with a secret buzzer and requires a reservation code, given only by a secret email address, etc. You just walk in the entrance under the sign and seating is first come first serve. Flora Room is a speakeasy-esque hidden bar behind Porzana. It is in the middle of a small alley, but the sign can be seen from the outside. Once inside the first door, there are some stairs and a second door is a few steps away. Flora Room is inside the second door. Came here on my own on a Friday evening while visiting the Twin Cities. Got here a few minutes before open, and there was only one other group waiting. We were all seated promptly at 5pm. I decided to sit at the bar versus a table. It is dark and moody inside, but all the plants and greenery help bring a livelier vibe. Once seated, Edgar gave me menus and talked me through some food and drink options. I ordered the Ole (an N/A cocktail) and Chipas to start, then had the Southie and Pa amb Tomaquet. Everything was exceptional. Many of the syrups and mixers are made in-house such as the Pomegranate Grenadine (?) in the Ole. The Ole was bright, refreshing, and slightly tart -- a great drink to start off with. The Chipas were a delicious starter. They remind me of Pao de Queijo, which is a Brazilian cheese bread, often served at Brazilian steakhouses or bbq spots. These are smaller, but had a similar airy, texture with a mild cheese flavor. The dipping sauce they came with was divine too. The Southie has savory notes to it, with some tartness from the yuzu and a unique flavor from the shiso. It is also made with Genever, which Edgar explained is kind of a cross between gin and scotch. Amazing drink. It's not as floral as a typical gin drink and the malt comes through. The Pa amb Tomaquet was another excellent dish. It is essentially tomato bread, and reminds me a little of bruchetta. The Ilajua had great flavor with a slight kick. It paired well with the anchovies. The bread was perfectly toasted, with a great balance of crispness and softness. Overall, giving Flora Room a 5/5. Would give it a 10/5 if I could. The service (shoutout to Edgar for the great conversation, hospitality, and recommendations), ambiance, food, and drinks are exceptional. Would highly recommend to anyone and would definitely be back when visiting the Twin Cities. This is an awesome spot for solo diners, and I'm sure just as awesome for groups or dates. read more

came here with a large group for pre-dinner cocktails on a Saturday night. despite the large group, we were able to find seats in the back which was nice because we all got to sit together. the staff was prompt in bringing us water and taking our orders. I had the Calluna which was so light and refreshing with just the right amount of sweetness. Others had the Sao Paolo Girl, the Mediterranea, and the Sachamama among others and everyone seemed to enjoy their food. I visited Flora Room for a date night with my husband and what. a. vibe. This speakeasy style bar located in the back alley behind Porzana is so aesthetic! I've heard Flora Room can get busy but when we visited there was no wait and plenty of tables to choose from (~7:30pm). I loved that it was seat yourself. We sat at the bar and a bartender promptly welcomed us and got us water. In terms of the menu, we aren't sophisticated cocktail drinkers so I wish we would have asked the bartender what to order based on what we typically go for in a cocktail -- next time we'll ask! I ordered the Valentina and my husband ordered the Salacia. We both preferred the Salacia over the Valentina. The service was quick and the bartender was very friendly. Overall, this is a perfect spot for a romantic date night and I look forward to visiting again and trying their food! read more

Great service and atmosphere. The only reason this isn't 5 star is because I had one of their plum hand rolls, and it is profoundly overwhelming. I'm not sure what it was, but it was INTENSE. It's hard to explain what the flavors were - but it was like they took a bunch of taco seasoning/other stuff and just soaked it for eternity. Shorty after the doors open the place was filled. We ended up with about a party of 10 or so. We were served at our table but with it being so crowded it looked like it's a walk-up bar style otherwise. We ended up ordering a few rounds of drinks and food. I ordered the Miami Girl & Alsace (I think) for drinks and popcorn chicken & fries for food. The drinks were good and presented well.
