Hidden gem in Downtown Roanoke! Small restaurant with a bar and tv in the back section. Friendly staff that greet you with a smile . Must try's are the fried pickles and mussels for starters. The portions are big so consider sharing. I ordered the Cottage pie and loved it . The Hamburger with cheese with a side of fries and the shrimp with grits are also great and definitely worth trying. This restaurant has one of the tastiest menus all around ! Worth a visit!

Another amazing meal at Bernard's, the service and food were top notch! It was a very busy evening, but everything was delicious and the service was excellent, as it always is.

I came here with a work group. We did not have reservations and ended up at the bar. It's a quaint cozy place with local vibes. You can see the open kitchen while sitting at the bar so beware your clothing may smell like a kitchen when you leave. Our food was ok. The French onion soup was a little bland and made w croutons not sliced bread. Three of us had Irishmen (Reuben) and the corned beef was thick sliced. Typically I prefer mine shaved. The thousand island dressing comes in the side, not on top which I think takes away from the melted flavors of the sandwich. Very nice staff. Not on my top list for places, but definitely not bad.

The chicken and dumpling soup is out of this world. It was real chicken swimming in a soup of creamy delicious broth clearly homemade topped with little pillows of goodness. The burger and risotto was also great, but it was really the soup that made the experience for me. That, and the team. They were so kind and we had the best time telling ghost stories and they told me all about Roanoke as it was my first time here. Great experience and I wish I got the bartenders names but they were both wonderful as was the owner Lindsay. Definitely recommend if you want a cozy at home vibe over a delicious food.

Truth be told, I am very stingy with my 5 star reviews (no really, check my record!). The ambiance is upscale pub. We went with the popular dishes - cottage pie and bourbon salmon. My salmon was a tad sweet for me and I'd have preferred it a cooked a tiny bit less, but still very flavorful and not dry. My husband enjoyed the cottage pie and it was a generous portion as promised. Jimmy our waiter was super friendly and accommodating. I appreciated the fact that the patio was open in November and could accommodate our dog, which pushed me from 4 to 5 stars!

What a great gastropub. I stoped in for lunch. The decor is great. It was cold outside, but the interior Christmas decor and music warmed me right up. The service was excellent. Great recommendations and appropriately attentive. I ordered the warm spinach salad: delicious and large. The dressing was amazing. I had the Steakhouse Burger. A great burger!!! Thank you.

Bernard's holds a very close place to my heart! From the first time I visited I knew this would be one of my favorite restaurants, owned and operated by the chef it has an elegant feel with a personal touch. I have never been disappointed by the dishes and find any and every excuse to invite my friends and family when they are in town. You can't go wrong with their mussels carbonara, the salmon, wings, or crab cakes. On a day where a martini and a Caesar salad are calling my name this is the the place I answer that calling. I love the servers and the optional patio seating. This place is a gem so they're busy on the weekends but usually bar seating is available, Oh and how could I forget their Banana pudding is one of the most magnificent takes on the classic dish. All and all this is one of the best restaurants in Virginia and I say this as a promise you will love it!!!

We came in a bit later in the evening, and it was quiet which was exactly what we were looking for after a long day on the road. This place was fantastic! We stopped in town for the night on our way to NC, and it ended up being the perfect spot to wind down. The staff was warm and welcoming, and the food was even better. It's pretty dark inside, so we were briefly worried they might be closed but we're so glad they weren't! We ordered a chocolate Manhattan, pear martini, chicken piccata, and cottage pie everything was delicious and the portions were huge. We were traveling and couldn't take leftovers with us, but I honestly would've been happy with half the portion size. Still, it was an amazing experience all around. Thanks for giving us a relaxing and memorable night before hitting the road again!

It highly went beyond the highest of my expectations, and delivered an extraordinary dining experience. After making an appointment for five o'clock and mentioning that I would be celebrating my birthday there on that day, I wondered how it would be, for everytime I have dined there, their attention to detail has been superb, and their cuisine has been exquisite. The day finally arrived and I was standing by the door at five minutes to the hour. Inside I could see through their large front windows the movement of all the staff getting ready for the opening of the restaurant. At exactly five o'clock, the hostess approached and opened the door for me to enter. She warmly greeted me and apologized for not being able to give me the table I requested because they needed it to unite with other tables for a large group they would be having. But they had prepared another one in front of the open kitchen for me, where I would be able to observe the Chef and other cooks preparing my food. It was definitely to my satisfaction, and when she took me there I was very impressed with the small detail on the table of a Happy Birthday card from the restaurant signed by everyone there and suspended by a little stand. Things like that are priceless in my eyes. Shortly afterwards, my friendly and efficient server Ivy, came by, wished me a Happy Birthday and took my order. To drink I had my favorite Mocktail there, the Butterfly Kisses. As appetizer I ordered the Oyster Wraps. And for my main entrée, the Hanger Steak, my favorite item in their menu and that of all the other restaurants around the area. My server did an excellent job of bringing out my ordered items in a well-paced manner. I noticed the small but significant detail that the chef had of serving me a slightly larger amount of Hanger Steak than the usual, and this meant more to me than any of the other complimentary desserts which are given in most other restaurants on your birthday. The Hanger Steak was so delicious. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and the high-quality of their food. Also to read my former review where I explain what a Hanger Steak is all about. For the Grand Finale of my Birthday meal I had their Panna Cotta dessert deliver with a burning birthday candle on top, another wonderful detail that many restaurants leave out now-a-days yet is so meaningful to many of us. This was truly a memorable dining experience. One that I will always remember and cherish dearly.

My friend and I walked in at 9 o'clock EXACTLY on a Thursday night to have a drink. The sign on the door said they were open until 10:00. There were 4 or 5 tables seated, enjoying dinner and cocktails. 5 or 6 people at the bar. There was no one to start with at the actual hostess stand and servers saw us standing at the door but did not approach us even though there was an hour left on their operating time. So we walked directly to the bar and sat down. We had just eaten at Fork in the Alley so all we wanted was one drink and we figured an hour was plenty of time to get that done. The first thing the bartender said to us was "The kitchen is closed." Not "hello" or "Hey what can I get you?" but the kitchen is closed. I said "oh I'm sorry I thought you closed at 10:00." He said "well, that's up for debate we were actually discussing that right now. We're basically closed but you can have a drink because it's not like the rest of these people are going anywhere." What do you mean that's up for discussion? Your hours say you're open till 10 o'clock, it's 9 o'clock I have an hour to eat and have drinks! The other bartender, or perhaps he was only a bar back, gave us a very disapproving look. I get it, I work in the food service industry. I'm a server at a 4 diamond restaurant, and I hate when people walk in minutes before we close and want to sit down. But if we post that we're open until 10 and you walk in at 9:45 I'm going to serve you and treat you like anyone else that walked in at 6:00 because it's your tips that pay my bills and put food on my table. It's definitely not the hourly wage I get from my employer! And as a server I never walk into a restaurant with less than 30 minutes to close. And it's more like an hour if I'm looking to eat a meal. I know you want to go home. When it's the end of the night and I'm at work, so do I! But there's an hour left and I wanted one drink. That's it! We continued to get disappointed looks from a few other employees even though we weren't the last people in the place. I told my friend (it's 9:45 at this point) that we obviously need to go since servers are standing around looking at us like we've got the plague. We paid our bill and promptly left. Two couples still at the bar. It's 9:59 right now as I'm writing this at home (you're still technically open btw) but I left feeling like I had stayed hours past your closing time. It's a real shame because we really enjoyed our drinks! They were super yummy! And I'm always getting asked by guests where's a good place for a late night cocktail and I used to recommend The River and Rail right along with Lucky's because we had a shuttle that would take guests out, but after tonight I won't be doing that anymore. Because there's nothing worse than feeling unwelcome at a restaurant that is still open.

This year I happened to go to Table 50, located on Market Street in the heart of Downtown Roanoke. Table 50 is one of those fine-dining restaurants in all the sense of the word. It is known for its upscale, progressive American cuisine that uses locally sourced ingredients from the nearby farmers' market. It offers an elegant atmosphere with features like copper tables and brick walls. Exquisite food like filet mignon. And exceptional customer service. After making my reservation through the OpenTable app, I showed up the following day right on time. A young lady hostess greeted me at the Host's station and after confirming my reservation took me to my table at a corner of the restaurant. My eloquent server Trent came by soon after to give me a warm welcome and take my drink order. I asked him to see if the bartender could make me a Pina Colada Mocktail. When he brought me the Mocktail, he took my food order. As a starter, I ordered the Seared Jumbo Sea Scallops served with a Parmigiano-Reggiano & Brandy Cream Sauce. Followed by a Mixed Green House Salad with Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing. And as my main course the Bienville Filet, a Certified Angus Beef 8oz Filet Mignon served with Fried Shrimps, Asparagus, Mashed Potatoes, and a New Orleans style parmesan cream sauce. My server then went to place the order and came back with a rectangular shape plate filled with a sliced baguette and little bowl of whipped butter. I always say that the quality of a restaurant's bread and water is an indication of the quality of its cuisine. My server did an exceptional job at bringing out all my items at the proper pace. And all was amazingly delicious. For the Grand Finale dessert, I asked for the Chocolate Mousse Torte. This is one of my favorites desserts out of all the restaurants around. My server brought it out on.a white plate with the words Happy Birthday written with a chocolate dip. It was delicious, even though this year they didn't include a candle on top. As if this wasn't enough, after paying and going to the restroom to wash my hands, as I was headed towards the door, my server runs by me and opens the door, thanking me for my visit on this special occasion and wishing that I come back soon. What a way to end an outstanding dining experience!

The place is small but quaint, with dim lighting, a full bar, and a fun mix of music genres that keeps the vibe relaxed but lively. I ordered the Gregg Brady, and my sister had the Doctor Gozo, both made with 100% Wagyu beef. You can taste the quality immediately. I added mushrooms and grilled onions for a small extra fee, and had my BBQ chips that come on it, on the side. We shared the crinkle‑cut fries, which came with their incredible house sauce. The sauce was so good I asked if they sold it, they do not, but the waitress sent me home with some samples for free. Service was fast and friendly. The waitresses were dressed in black tank tops, black shorts, and black shoes, and every one of them worked with a smile, like they were glad you came. The restaurant entrance itself is handicap accessible, but the bathrooms are not, they're very clean but also very small and too tight for a wheelchair to fit inside. One of the coolest things about Jack Brown's is their Beer Club. If you drink 100 different beers, you become a "Notcher." If you drink 1,000, different beers you become a "Saint." On Saint's Day, Saints get all food and drinks free, unlimited, with no tab. It's a huge part of their culture and adds to the fun, and a loyal community. Overall, the food was phenomenal, the staff went above and beyond, and the atmosphere made the whole visit top notch. I will definitely be coming back the next time I roll through this part of town. How to Become a Notcher (repeat for the Saints) To achieve Notcher status, individuals must follow these steps: 1. And Alexander's, in the heart of Downtown Roanoke, is a perfect example. From the moment I arrived and walked through their door, I was greeted in such a way, by none other than Bjorn, the Dining Room Manager himself, that made me feel appreciated and immediately made me feel at home. Neither the coldness of the weather nor the accumulated snow could hinder me from my decision to dine here this evening. I was the first one to arrive after they opened their doors. Since the streets were still icy and filled with snow, I left my Lexus at home and took a Lyft to the restaurant, which was not far from my neighborhood, the Historic Old Southwest. Since it was a slow night due to the weather, the Dining Room Manager himself doubled as my server for the evening. To drink, we discussed my flavor liking for a Mocktail, and he came up with a special one, that ended up tasting amazing. To dine, I started with the Deconstructed cajunese california roll appetizer. It was amazingly delicious! Then I had a Salad vinaigrette, which was included with every entrée, and a French Baguette with a cube of butter. The baguette slices with butter were so fresh, soft in the inside and crispy on the outside, that they confirmed my view that the quality of a restaurant's bread and butter is a reflection of the quality of the restaurant and its cuisine. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and the quality of their food. As my main entrée, I had the Grilled filet of beef, sauce marchand de vin, cooked medium-rare. The filet was cooked to perfection, just as ordered, so tender, juicy, and flavorful. It was a culinary masterpiece from Chef and General Manager, Boni M. Webb, who graciously came out to greet me, and gave me an opportunity to personally celebrate her magnificent cuisine. She reminded me of my Japanese student who obtained the best grade in my Business class at the university where I taught. She was very humble and kind. As the Grand Finale dessert, on the advice of my server and general manager, I ordered their Glace au chocolat. It was wonderful. What an outstanding dining experience I once again had in this outstanding restaurant with a unique combination of exceptional food, atmosphere, and heartfelt service. I highly recommend it, and can't wait to return.

It has been in existence since 1948, owned and operated by a lovely Greek immigrant couple, who from the moment you walk in, make you feel at home. Open daily from Monday through Friday, it is one of the few restaurants around that opens the earliest for breakfast, at 6AM, and closes at 1:30PM. Today, I decided to re-visit the place for an early breakfast, since it has plenty of free offstreet parking up to 8AM. I arrived at around 6:45AM and parked next to the sidewalk in front of the restaurant on a street parking spot. There were already some steady customers dining inside. As soon as I arrived the wife and co-owner gave me a warm welcome and I reciprocated by wishing her a Good Morning in Greek. Somehow, I find that making an effort to speak to others in their native language, establishes an immediate, friendly connection with them. I sat at one of their booths, and she asked me if I wanted coffee to start off with. I answered in the affirmative and then gave her my order. I ordered Paul's Breakfast Special. 2 eggs, with choice of bacon, ham or sausage, home fries and toast. All this, including the drink of your choice, for $8.00. I ordered my eggs over easy, bacon for the meat, and white toast. If you look at my photographs accompanying this review you will notice the quality of each of the items in my breakfast and how they were cooked to perfection, just as I requested. The bacon strips were thick and meaty, and cooked to order. The eggs were perfectly over easy. And the home fries were slices of potatoes fried just right. After delivering my breakfast to my table, she came by to refill my coffee. While I was enjoying my breakfast, other groups of customers came in and also received a friendly, warm welcome. A father and daughter came in, and soon after, the lady co-owner brought a slice of freshly baked cake with a lit candle on top and sang to the girl the Happy Birthday song. Relaxed ambiance, quality food, and excellent service, make for an extraordinary dining experience. Sometimes one finds the most amazing restaurants, tucked away on a side street.

After all, I've often liked to sit in the front row when attending live events. What I found was a bit disappointing. More than a restaurant this is a place to drink beer and cocktails while watching a game on a large screen TV. It has a very limited food menu and when I went the place seemed deserted. While I was there only one other customer came in, drank two beers while watching the big screen TV, talked.over the phone, and left. My server was very nice and friendly, but the food left much to be desired. I ordered a BBQ Burger that was listed on the menu as a 1/3 lb Angus burger with onion rings, bacon, cheddar cheese, and BBQ sauce. Sounded great but I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review. The beef patty was small and dry and the one onion ring looked beaten. Even though it has a pool table in the back and signs up that seemed to have activities going on throughout the week, this is not a place that I would like to be in the front row, especially for the poor quality of their food and questionable ambiance.

The Regency Room at Hotel Roanoke, fine-dining at its best. Experience an opulent setting,…read moresophisticated ambiance, exquisite flavors, and refined service. After having been selected as number 4 of Yelp's Top 50 most prolific Elites of 2025, a year when I was also awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Photographer of the Year Award at their Yelpies 2025 Award Ceremony, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, and where last year I was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Yelper of the Year Award, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and businesses, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And The Regency Room in Roanoke, Virginia, is a perfect example. Hidden in one of the most magestic rooms of the historic Hotel Roanoke, The Regency Room is more than just a restaurant, it is a memorable fine-dining experience like none other. And once you experience it for the first time, you'll always want to return. In my case I made that come back this evening after making my reservation through OpenTable requesting my usual table. As a member of The Dogwood Club, they always honor my request whenever possible. If I would have brought my pearl white Lexus Luxury Edition I would have also had complimentary valet parking with the restaurant validation. But I preferred to leave my car at home and have a Lift drive me there. When I arrived, the long-standing Maitre d, Lowell, welcomed me with their signature AAA Four Diamond hospitality. I was so happy to see him, for in his position he sets the hospitable tone of the restaurant with his attention to detail and desire to make the dining experience of all guests a memorable one. He not only had my usual table setup for me, but also had the new chef de cuisine, Wells Selbe, come out to greet me. Growing up in the Roanoke area and trained at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, I was really looking forward to tasting his menu focus. I had read that he blended classical techniques with Appalachian flavors, local ingredients, and foraged items from his family's Franklin County family. Brittany, one of my favorites servers there and whom I had during my first visit, was my server and did an excellent job in explaining the new menu and dining events. She brought me fresh bread with whipped butter, a sign of a great restaurant. She help me choose The Summer Belle Mocktail. She also brought me a small bowl of She Crab Soup that was delicious. She then surprised me with an Amuse Bouche. To dine I started with the Stuff Squid a la Provencal. And for the main entrée, The Dry Aged Filet Mignon Au Poivre. Everything was amazingly delicious. And the Jazz live music playing in the background added to the the enjoyment of the dining experience. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to see the gastronomic masterpieces. For dessert I had a special dessert that the chef de cuisine made for me and brought out, explaining all the items it was made with. In conclusion, once again I had an extraordinary dining experience here today, and I highly recommend this restaurant for a fine-dining experience above all others.

Nothing spectacular and no imagination at all. Very overpriced for such a bland breakfast $40 a person. It was all buffet style. Service was not the best, had to ask for water multiple times, and the dirty dishes were taking up most of the table. We had to start stacking them. We had a table of four people so it was quite annoying. At one point our server said a large table was coming in after us and was about to be seated so he needed to take care of them before he could ask us our drink order. We had already eaten more than half our food before we ordered our drinks. There was plenty of parking cost $6 for up to two hours. Bathrooms and lobby were beautiful and very clean. I think I will stick to night time dining. At least i can check the Regency Sunday Brunch off my brunch list.
