I went to Berny's on Saturday around 2pm and had a great experience overall. Shortly after that the place started filling up. It's a small restaurant, but the decor is absolutely beautiful. They were playing kompa music, which immediately set the vibe and made the atmosphere even better. Now the food--10/10 across the board. Everything we ordered was packed with flavor. Every single bite was delicious. The pikliz was perfect for me because I love spicy food, but if you're not used to heat, be careful because it definitely has a kick. Shoutout to Dave, who took care of us. He gave excellent recommendations, and provided great service. I'll definitely be back, especially later at night because I can already tell the vibes are probably even better then. TikTok brought me here. I wanted to love it but all I can say is I like it. It's a very small but lively restaurant, almost gives like a lounge feel. The service is pretty good too but we waited a little while for our food and then when it came out it wasn't hot. I was disappointed in the spaghetti, I never had Haitian spaghetti before and was expecting more flavor. Our waitress was nice and helpful, and gave great suggestions. We tried their plantain appetizer which was great, the shredded griot topped with the spicy sauce paired well together. Their lambi was so tender, felt like the conch was melting in my mouth. The classic griot was my favorite; it was fried perfectly where it was tender and moist. I have been wanting to try this place for a very long time and was so excited when I finally had some free time, to my surprise I was disappointed. Upon entering the restaurant there was no greeting, I had to walk up to bar area to ask if we can sit anywhere. Once seated, a waitress did bring my menu very quickly. I wasn't too hungry so I just ordered a hookah and a drink- I got the passion punch. The passion punch was not cold and tasted super thick. I also ordered a hookah as soon as I sat down, and it took 30 minutes to come and the restaurant was not busy. My friend was meeting me and by the time she arrived the hookah was still not there. She asked for wine and it did not seem like the bartenders were knowledgeable, so she opted for sparkling water. The brand she requested and was told they had was not what they brought out - this could have just been a miscommunication. As my experience was not so great, I opted out of ordering food so I cannot speak to that. My friend did order Griot Tostadas and she stated they were cold. He brings the check with a medium snapper and says " oh we don't do small snappers" Very misleading and bad service. The snapper didn't have enough seasoning and was small. I had something to eat not long before we popped in so we decided to get the food to go; meatballs and rice. Food took about 30+ minutes to come out. While waiting they have music playing. It was very loud. If I stayed to eat, I would've felt a bit bothered. No way to have a normal conversation without raising your voice. It wasn't club hour/scene so I think the music can be a bit lower. The rice and plantains were good. The sauce had a little spicy kick to it which was good. The meatballs were burnt a bit. I had to ask for the owner before I left the restaurant. The food tasted like I had been to Haiti itself! The seasoning was impeccable. There was not a single thing that didn't taste amazing on the menu. I wished I could have eaten more but my stomach was too full! Lol. This place DESERVES TO BE 5 stars but they need better wait staff. The ladies they have there are almost just standing around trying to figure out how to do it. We didn't get silverware, small plates for appetizers, etc. The young lady didn't even check in much. I wasn't sure if it was because we came on Mother's Day so she might have been tired. Either way, the food was delicious and I almost forgot the waitress like she seemed to forget us! Decor and dining area : pretty small ; a lot of tables together in a small space . A lot of the tables were extremely wobbly so having food drinks and even hookah was a bit nerve wrecking since the tables shook a lot . Drinks : The drinks here are not advertised , items were served in plastic cups which was odd. A lot of drinks were unable to be made either not in stock or made really bad . I drove 40 minutes in 6pm traffic on a Friday to eat here. That's how bad I wanted to try this restaurant. lol. And they did not disappoint. We arrived a little bit after 7pm. It was only one other party in there. That was definitely a plus for me. We were seated immediately. The restaurant is dim and ambiance is nice. They play great music and have hookahs available for a decent price. I ordered 2 Henny Passion and my friend had a Tequila Sunrise. I ordered a medium fried fish and my friend had the griot. They could benefit from changing up some things with their decor. Dj started off bad got better then it just got bad. Drinks were ok. They were out of passion fruit juice which was disappointing Service was not good. There wasn't too many people in there and she still managed to keep forgetting small basic things. At first I tried to be understanding but then it got annoying especially since it's a small space and we were right in her face by the bar! Food is the reason why I kept it to 3 stars. Everything I had was good. The macaroni was a very small portion so ended up buying one to go. Hookah took extremely long to get. Again felt like she forgot, to a point someone else stepped in asking if everything is ok. We let her know we were still missing our hookah so she reminded our server. She ended up bringing the hookah without even clearing the table! We had to ask her to clear the table. These are small basic serving skills that were overlooked. Customer service definitely was lacking. I also didn't care for the crowd on that day. Where do I begin, let me start off by saying come to this restaurant if you're okay with waiting an hour plus for food. But to wait an hour for it.... i'll pass. The restaurant is very small with a nice vibe but the customer service is the real reason it has three stars. You'll definitely be entertained with music while you wait. In that time frame my table was never asked if we needed anything or do we even want another drink. Nor did our waiter let us know about the wait. My friend decided to get a small snapper fried and his food came out 30 mins before the rest of the table, he waited the whole time for everyone's food to come because he wanted us all to eat together. He had to ask for them to heat up his rice. Then here comes the bill, both my friends ordered the small snapper but on the receipt it was something totally different. When it was brought to the waiter's attention she automatically got defensive saying she advised us that there's no small snapper only medium..that was never told! The manger did drop the price but kept say they don't offer small snapper and it isn't on the menu when it 's shown online and on the menu we had. My mother in law really wanted to go out to a nice sit down dinner for Mothers Day , after looking around this place seemed to have a nice indoor dining based on photos so I made a reservation. Let me break down some observations. I called a few days prior to ask if they were kid friendly which they mentioned they were so I was put at ease wanting my kids with me for Mother's Day dinner. I personally as a parent wouldn't mark it as kid friendly offering hookahs given the smoke and it being a small establishment. Whoever held responsibility in decor , great job . Of course being in a small shopping plaza it was really small and tight but they made due for sure. It being Mother's Day I have to assume they were promoting celebration given the music was super loud , honestly If you have to speak directly in your servers ear , like close it's a problem. Service was subpar , I think some customer service training needs to be refreshed with maybe letting the servers know to be a bit more attentive and checking on your tables. I honestly could not tell besides the 3 servers I could tell work there based on their logo shirts but there were regular dresses individuals behind the bar . Walking in the kitchen I couldn't tell who was staff or not. After receiving our food I wanted to ask my server for some additional sides but couldn't see her ( not realizing she was in the corner smoking hookah ) There was a nice young lady come by our table, again didn't know if she worked there but assumed after she asked if everything was alright. To the food understanding that they also do takeout and it being Mother's Day I will give that it was understandable for the wait on our food. The food was well seasoned, well portioned and definitely authentic Haitian food I should know , and it's exactly the food we were hoping for so if I could just rate the food I would give 5 stars. But sometimes food doesn't exceed the bad service. I definitely would try again but takeout only, I think this establishment has a lot of potential on expanding their customer range and clientele but some new management skills need to come in for sure ! read more

It was a group of three of us that went to dine in yesterday night, and when we tried to call prior to going there... they mention that we don't need a reservation. Once we got there, it was a 45 minute wait for us, and the waitress never came back to let us know if our table was ready or not. We saw people got up from their table to leave and then seen another server go and clean, so then we took the initiative to sit ourselves down. It took another 30 minutes for the waitress to give us our menus and then to come back in another additional 10 minutes to ask to see if someone has asked what we ordered for our drinks. From that point on, my friends and I decided to place an order for both our entrée and our foods, since we saw how slow the service was. We then sat for an hour waiting for our food, until we decided to get up and leave. No one came to accommodate us for patiently waiting, they catered more to the to go orders than anything. read more

The crowd is a mixture of young and older people. When I picked up my food, I could not wait to get home to tear it up because I just figured I was gonna have some bomb ass chicken wings.
