Pretty good bubble tea! I was in the area for a meeting and planned to grab a cup of coffee...but got sidelined by a place to get me some boba! Owned by Berry Gibb and Berry Manilow. Not to be confused with Barely Manbelow who has a much smaller thingy. This is definitely one of the more average bubble teas I've had lately, and I think I've already made extensive comments on it so let me grab them. Here they are. Berry was a pretty average bubble tea. It didn't taste very much of anything but milk, but it wasn't bad, and it definitely wasn't too sweet. The Boba was kind of tasteless as well, but at least the consistency was good, because consistency is everything with tapioca. So I would say that overall, four stars is a good deal, and they are friendly enough and cheap enough where it didn't really matter to me that the milk tea was pretty average. They have a good selection of other things, so maybe I'll try their lemon black tea sometime. And I had a little more later and I kind of liked it. And it's much better than the competition. Best boba in the Capital region! I've tried almost every boba I can get my hands on in the Albany area and have found myself relying on Berry & Berry for a decent tea and tapioca. Boba- decent consistency and usually a reasonable amount in each drink. There's honestly nothing special with the tapioca but it has the best texture (soft and chewy with a little crunch) compared to all others in the area. Teas- all powder based but the flavors of the tea are still satisfying. Some real fruit would be a good tasty add on to the powder profile. Good boba tea. They have a wide variety to pick from including tea, milk tea, and smoothies. My personal favorite at the moment is the banana and mango smoothie. You can order extra boba tapioca pearls and I recommend saying "two spoons" as they seem to measure them that way. The tapioca pearls really add a fun textural layer to the mouth experience when consuming the tea which comes with a straw sufficiently wide to accommodate the experience. Service is fast with a quick turnaround on order times. Sometimes, depending on who is at the register, you may feel rushed or like there's a language barrier so I advise using the tv screen menu before getting to the person you are going to place your order with. Calling all bubble tea lovers! This bubble tea is thirst quenching and delicious! My staple order anywhere I go is passion fruit green tea with mango popping bubbles (less ice). I personally don't like tapioca balls so I don't usually order the milk teas, but my sisters loved their milk teas and didn't have any complaints! We always pair this with our corn dogs from Kong Dog and are always happy with our little mall snack while doing some damage shopping and getting our steps in! Be sure to pair this with the corn dogs just across the way and you'll be one happy shopper that day. The staff is quick and give you a punch card for every 10 drinks you buy you get 1 free so be sure to ask for your card (or remember to bring it to be stamped). Milk tea/boba shops in malls are a must for me. I love shopping and having a boba tea snack. I have been here a couple times and got a fruit tea each time. I like that you can customize the level of ice or sweetness you want. They also have shaved ice, milk teas, and smoothies. I think they have frozen yogurt too. They're located in the mall across from the food court. I got a grapefruit iced tea. It tasted fine but was definitely made with a syrup. There are few boba places that make it with actual grapefruit pulp. Service was pretty quick. Inside, there are maybe two tables fit for 2-4 people. Their shaved ice is Taiwanese style where it is thinly sliced with a blade and can be eaten with a fork. This place reminds of me Q-Cup or Tapioca Express (minus the popcorn chicken). As a visitor to Albany, I don't know what the options for bubble tea are. I was happy to at least find a place that offered bubble tea, but I was a bit disappointed with the actual drink. I've had a busy summer traveling to big cities(NYC, London, Toronto) and the bubble tea at Berry & Berry doesn't measure up. I went ahead with my recent regular (jasmine milk tea, no sugar, lychee jelly instead of tapioca pearls). The tea flavor was really watered down, and it was still too sweet even without sugar. Maybe the sweetness came from the lychee jelly? And my drink was heavy on milk. Service here was also a little awkward. I ordered with one person, but then he passed off my card to another girl manning the credit card reader...the whole transaction was awkward and I was ready to leave even before I got my drink. The flow of the store is off too. You order to the counter at right, but everyone seemed to be standing waiting in the space at left. It was congested and felt uncomfortable for the people sitting at the few tables available. Berry & Berry offers other options, smoothies, frozen yogurt. Maybe their other offerings are their forte... but for me the bubble tea was not impressive. Located inside of Crossgate Mall on the second floor across from food court is some awesome shaved ice cream! First, you pick your flavored shaved ice cream and then two toppings for $6.95. You can add more toppings for extra $ of course. I had the mango shaved ice with strawberries and lychees. It my was first time trying shaved ice and it was yummy! The portion size was good to share but of course, no one has to share if they don't want to, lol. The place also sell a variety of smoothie and bubble teas with tapioca pearls and frozen yogurt. It was dangerous for me to be here and not go overload with the sugar intake. Before we begin, there's something you should know. Usually it takes me some time to warm up to new foods. The first time I tried dim sum, I was totally unimpressed. In my mind there are liquids and there are solids, and sucking down solids through an extra thick straw gave me miniature panic attacks on every sip. But it's not just Asian foods. The first time I tried New Haven style pizza at Pepe's, I was decidedly underwhelmed by its construction, the thickness of the crust, and the amount of char. Now, I love all of these things. Will the same fate come to pass for shaved snow? Or snow ice? Or whatever you want to call it? I have no idea. But thanks to Christine & Nita's enthusiasm for this milky, frozen confection, I was compelled to try it. I even asked Christine for an expert tutorial before placing my order. And that was certainly helpful. It pushed me towards the mango flavor, with lychee jelly, and no drizzle. Actually, I was going to ask for sweetened condensed milk as the drizzle, but I didn't see it. As it turns out, B&B totally has it, so next time I may go in that direction. Because, man, I do love sweetened condensed milk. I loved the look of this treat, and all the many layers. Based on how it looks, I was expecting the experience of eating it to be a bit lighter and more refreshing. But the texture was much denser. And maybe that's part of the appeal. I'm not entirely sure. The shop as a whole was mostly doing a brisk business selling bubble tea. Mine was the only order of shaved snow during our visit. And it didn't look like the FroYo was getting a lot of love either. On its face, the snow ice may seem expensive. But one order was more than enough for me and my two kids to share. Next time I might try a plain one topped with sweetened condensed milk and red bean, just to get a better understanding of the basics. However, now that I've tried it, I'm not in a big hurry to return. That said, you should absolutely try this for yourself, because it's fantastic to see new things come to the Capital Region. Thus, as soon as I caught wind that it existed at a Westfield within 20 minutes of our hotel stay, I had to go check it out. The store is like your typical fro-yo chain with self-serve levers on their machines. But the shaved snow is served up behind the counter. For about $8, you can get a moderately-sized bowl. Choose from original, mango, matcha and taro flavors. They've got a variety of fruits, jellies and syrups as toppings to choose from. With the standard bowl, you get the choice of two. We went with the mango and topped with mochi and condensed milk, my go-to toppings. This shaved snow wasn't the best I've ever had, but for being the only option around, it's decent! The snow could be softer and flakier, but Berry&Berry makes a solid effort. If you're new to this kind of shaved snow, I'd encourage you to try it. Unlike your typical shaved ice, shaved snow is made by freezing a sweetened milk mixture. The result is a creamier, softer sweet treat! We also had to sample their milk tea with pearls. While the pearls are left unsweetened, they were perfectly al dente. The tea was also very prominent--definitely an accurate portrayal of the drink. My kids love Bubble Tea, and I would say this is one of the most convenient places in the area to grab a bubble tea. Berry Berry is located right next to the food court at Crossgates Mall. We haven't tried their other foods, but they have ice cream and other drinks. Bubble Tea has tapioca 'pearls' in the bottom, and you choose a flavor of drink, from caramel to honeydew melon. The shop has a neat machine that seals the top with a sheet of plastic, which you pierce with your straw. The straw is big enough to suck up the tapioca balls (which are like a hard, tasteless Jello). The shop can be busy, but the staff is always busy preparing your order. It's a clean and nice storefront operated by people who seem to know the in and outs of pmt (they immediately greeted me with mandarin and told me their signature drink, which definitely stopped me in my tracks). Pearl milk tea: I got the jasmine milk tea with pearls. I didn't ask for sweetness variation this time since I wanted to try their classic. Tea: it was a good balance of tea and milk flavors. The tea essence wasn't really strong, and I didn't quite taste the jasmine, but my ice melted a little, so there may have been a diluting factor. I didn't see if they used powder or brewed their tea, but I'll pay more attention next time. Pearls: I like chewy pearls, and these leaned on the softer side for me. It wasn't too sweet, and they gave a good portion of pearls. Though we did go later in the day, so I can't vouch for overall quality of the pearls. That'll have to be determined over a longitudinal study. Anyone want to sponsor this arduous and self-sacrificial project for me? *winks* Variety: I saw a good amount of flavored teas in addition to the classic milk teas, so that's a good sign of authenticity to this place. There's also a good variety of drink-specific toppings, so I'm excited to try out these different combinations in the future. Frozen yogurt: there was a good selection of flavors to choose from, and the toppings had a good amount of fresh fruit, sweets, and popping pearls (if you don't know what that is, you should look up juice spherification). My friend got one and said it was pretty yummy. Shaved Ice: oh man oh man oh man!!! A place hat offers shaved ice in Albany?! The day has finally come! I tried not to get my hopes up about this place, being pretty selective when it comes to shaved ice and boba. I mean, it's mall food. How good can it be? All I have to say is, I'm crying tears of joy right now. My first shaved ice in over a year and a half. I got the mango base with mango chunks and lychee jelly, covered in condensed milk. It really filled a hole in my vacant heart. The Thai milk tea won't be to everyone's taste as it's pretty mild on the tea flavor, which is EXACTLY how I like it so I am quite pleased. I would give this place one star for having shaved ice at all, one star for appearing clean, and another star because I feel like two stars would be a little mean. I was excited to come here for what seems to be the first shaved ice place in the capital region, especially since one of the posters shown in a reviewer's picture depicts traditional toppings. I was a little disappointed to find that the establishment is essentially another frozen yogurt place that happens to also have a shaved ice machine. The toppings are all what you'll get at any other froyo place, but one plus is that they do offer condensed milk, which is a relief. I further found the price to be high for what I was getting...but for the area it's not surprising. I'm sure that most people in the capital region wouldn't understand why I would find this disappointing, and I would even agree with the business owners that it's probably smarter to use the expectedly very sweet, very American/western flavors for a more definite general appeal in this area. I can't help comparing what was offered and what I got with what I can make myself or what I can get in Taiwan, but if I rated the establishment without comparisons, then I would say that this is a decent place for an icy dessert. At any rate I'll just be continuing to make and enjoy my own shaved ice at home. ;) read more

I was feeling like a fruit smoothie today after lunch so I did some research. Berry & Berry advertised that their fruit smoothies were made with real fruit, which is really important to me. Well, I went to pay for my passionfruit smoothie and ask the cashier person (who appears to be the manager) if it was made with real fruit. He says, "yes, it is made with real fruit" with no hesitation whatsoever. I'm watching the guy scoop an orange syrup substance from a container labeled "passionfruit", some orange cubed substance, and some ice and mixes it on the blender. I'm sorry, but none of what was put into the blender was real fruit (I've had actual passionfruit before). Most likely, their strawberry smoothie is made with the red syrup labeled "strawberry". I'm not against using syrup instead of fruit, but I am strongly against advertising something, lying to your face, and then doing something else. read more
