Tried their pineapple Boston shake which was a vanilla milkshake topped with Dole whip. It was interesting but felt after a few minutes that there was no longer any discernable difference and everything just tasted like a cup of sweet cream. Love Jims! Drove out of our way so I could get a seasonal flavor: Maple soft serve. Even though there was a line, you know that means it is good! I can't believe I'm the first person to document the Boston shake. I've heard about this for years, but this is my first. I almost don't want to post the pic because there goes the surprise and anticipation for other first timers. I'm not really sure why this is so great except that it is. I have really come to enjoy Jim's Tastee Freez. The vanilla and chocolate are always a win. However, this season (2021) the ice cream flavor of the week has been grainy on several occasions. It doesn't impact the flavor, but the grainy (almost sticky on the teeth if you chew it) mouthfeel isn't ideal for soft serve. This is not a problem with the standard vanilla or chocolate, just the flavor of the week. Tastee Freez is one of the places I visit regularly but for some reason have never reviewed. Perhaps it's because I feel I should only write a review after a fresh visit, or maybe it's because I hardly consider myself objective any longer. I started going to Tastee Freez when I worked out in Delmar when I was relying on a rusted old car to get back and forth. We had one really bad day where the gas tank literally rusted off the frame of the car and was being dragged along the pavement. We knew we did not have the money for a new vehicle, and didn't have the money to get this one repaired, and really had not thought about how to get home. We just pulled off to the side of the road and decided to spend our last cash in hand on some cones. It was the best decision I made that day. Some 15 years later, we're still going back when the mood strikes. This evening I had one of my old standby favorites, medium chocolate sugar cone with sprinkles. We even brought our dog Samson and let him enjoy a kid size of his own. It is hard to separate the quality ice cream of this visit from the nostalgia of years of visits, but its hard to ignore the effect it can have on my mood. I do not get out as often, which is probably a good thing for my waistline, so we make it a point to go when we're craving. It's a small building with limited outside seating. Depending on the time of day you might want to eat in your car. Personally, I love getting to the benches if there's one available because interacting with other ice cream fans can really add to the fun. If you're looking for a quick treat that's a bit unique, ask for a Boston Shake. A shot of vanilla soft serve inside a chocolate shake that can fill an ice cream craving with the convenience of a drink. One note for those watching their gluten intake, be mindful when ordering. They do have malt and sometimes add it to shakes. While they generally only add it if you ask for it, they do employ some younger staff at certain times and they can make mistakes. Just mention it and save your insides some turmoil. read more

My husband and I stopped here for a quick treat yesterday, and I'm not sure what the hype was about. I ordered an Oreo Freez, which was just mediocre soft serve ice cream blended with mashed Oreos in it. It was not blended well, as the bottom have of the cup was just vanilla ice cream, with no Oreos. The menu is a little weird, it's scattered across multiple signs on the exterior menus, with some signs on the inside. We didn't even realize they had hot dogs or anything until after we already paid. It is cash only, but they do have an ATM in the rear of the building. It was a little pricey for the kind of food they serve. Besides the food, our biggest complaint was that while my husband and I were waiting for our ice cream, we could clearly hear the staff talking about customers. It actually made us extremely uncomfortable. We decided we would give this place one more shot, but we aren't hopeful that the experience will be any different. read more

For me, summer is pretty much synonymous with soft-serve. I can't help it - the eternal kid in me absolutely loves the stuff. This is one of my absolute favorite local places to get soft-serve. It's creamy and sweet, without being cloying like some places, and there's a large selection of different types of frozen desserts, i.e. nonfat, sugar-free, dairy-free, etc. I'm pretty much a chocolate-vanilla twist devotee, but every so often I venture out of that comfort zone. The mainly young staff is friendly and the prices really aren't that bad. I'm not sure if they still do, but I know they used to use milk and cream from local dairy Meadowbrook Farms in Clarksville. There are several picnic tables outside, so sometimes I bring the pooch with me. If it's a real splurge, I buy him a kiddie cup of the sugar-free, nonfat vanilla frozen yogurt. It also happens to be right next to a laundromat. Sometimes when I really don't feel like dealing with laundry, I try to sweeten the deal for myself by going to that location so I can get ice cream while I wait for the dryer cycle. The one downside is that the parking lot is on the small side. Oh, and it's only open seasonally, but really, who wants to eat soft-serve in the middle of February anyway? read more

Delmar staple soft serve. Seemingly we all go in the spring as soon as it opens. I think we go three days a week all summer for a cone after dinner. Vanilla, Chocolate and Twist. They have a special flavor that rotates too. They also have Glace' which is a substituted for those who can't or don't want to eat something good Hot fudge, peanut butter, jimmies, chocolate crunch.....
