Emack & Bolio's was the last place in Albany that I visited, and I will say... their vegan ice cream was exceptionally good. I would have never known this was part of a chain unless I looked on their website and found multiple other locations (even outside the US!) I love that the place is fashioned into a kids' candy store - a place I wish I had in my own childhood. Staff are also very friendly and welcoming. Best part is: tons of free samples before you order! Emack and Bolio's did not have all the vegan flavors that were advertised on their website, but I did love the vegan coffee fudge that they had on their menu. A kid's scoop was the perfect size. In fact, the small scoop might have been a little too much. Unlike some vegan ice creams I've had (too icy, not creamy enough, overall bland), the vegan coffee fudge had a texture and flavor that tasted almost the same as a dairy base! When you first enter the store, it gives you a warm vibe, which is perfect for eating ice cream! I went when it was high noon. When I got to the counter, Sam greeted me right away, and she offered excellent suggestions. It took me a while to decide on what to get because the menu has unique names. Sam offered me samples, which helped me make my decision. She was very professional even though I was standing there for a while, trying to decide what to get with asking for multiple samples. In my personal experience, some people get impatient when you can't decide right away. You can't go wrong with any flavor! The ice cream was super tasty and amazing. The seating area is very cozy and organized. It feels like you got teleported to your living room. One thing that caught my eye was the chess board on the table. Make sure to clean up after yourself because we all know you don't leave garbage around in your living room. Overall, I have to say the experience was amazing because of Sam. Seems like I'm not the only 1 that thinks the associates cares more about socializing than getting the customer order. Was explaining to a friend last night how I ordered only 2 items the other night which were an ice cream and a smoothie . Which was atleast 20$ . And this girl literally was chit chatting and was taking a sweet time to making the smoothie . Meanwhile no communication happened amongst them . And another girl ended up making my icecream way too early . Finished half way still waiting for the smoothie , I look back up and this girl was still just getting the supplies for the smoothie . Which shocked me cause what was she doing the whole time before ???? . Covid update: plenty of outdoor seating! I no longer live in the neighborhood but this is a GEM. The ice cream is not too sweet and true to its flavor. None of that artificial flavoring business. I always end up getting the strawberry because it's just so good, with big chunks of strawberry. Grasshopper is good as well! The husband is a big fan of the vegan mango and coconut. The dipped cones are fun to try but they're HUGE. I've had the cocoa crisp, cinnamon crunch and chocolate+walnut combo. All are good but come hungry! I wish I could convey the childish exhilaration I felt when I got my ice cream at Emack and Bolio's. I spent an excruciatingly long time deciding on a flavor, and ended up getting a mint chocolate chip scoop with a sprinkle waffle cone (all in a cup of course, because I am a guaranteed spiller). Keep in mind that the ice cream pictured here is a KIDS SCOOP, and it was large enough to act as my dinner. What really stood out to me was the satisfying snap as I bit into the chocolate-coated waffle cone; I would eat that on its own as a cookie alternative, it's that good! Love their ginormous-sized cones! A bit too much (very sweet with all the marshmallow in order to bind the cereal/topping to the cone), but it certainly made for a fun treat-yoself treat and photo. My parents and I got a total of 5 scoops, 2 specialty cones and 1 waffle cone, and it came out to $21... so not inexpensive. Def worth it at least once though:) Really cute shop too! Yum! I don't know why I forgot Albany had an E&B's and kept hunting for a good ice cream place in the area. This is a chain with multiple locations including in NYC and Boston. The ice cream quality is top notch, I always go for the grasshopper pie and it never fails me. It's also super cute inside with toys, gifts, cakes, and chocolates. There is an area with seating inside and outdoor seating as well. They are taking precautions for COVID and it's a really cheerful place to go get your ice cream fix. Not a darn thing wrong with this place. Wow! Went to the one in NYC about 100 years ago and wasn't impressed. This is a much better setting, and not sure what the Hudson river connection is. This is an ice cream shop for all ages. I want to look at all the candy, toys, gifts and ICE CREAM. who doesn't want to look, touch and eat everything in here. Price is very affordable considering how big a scoop of ice cream is. I lost count of how many flavors of ice cream they sell. It can come on either a cup or different type of cones. Cones include regular, chocolate, smores etc. They also have deserts including brownies, cookies, cake. There's also a chocolate section where you can buy assorted chocolates which is also pretty affordable. And I didn't forget to mention how they also have espresso, coffe, chai as well. The store is filled with things to buy or look at with decorations everywhere which makes the place very comforting and relaxing. I loved every second i spent here. We got 2 scoops, one was the blackberry and the other was the yellowcake. Both were so delectable, enjoyed each spoon to the fullest. Upon entering the store, I was bombarded with colors and smells at the same time. This store is a feast for the senses, with plenty of choices of ice cream, as well as candy, and in the back, some toys. The store was clean, and despite the visual overload, everything was in its place and well organized. There were plenty of options for ice cream, and i chose a double scoop in a sugar cone of "mud pie" which consisted of coffee ice cream with chocolate chips and oreo pieces mixed in. The employee was friendly and served me quickly. They also had a soda fridge, and to their credit, they had high-quality Boylans sodas in the glass bottle. I got a black cherry soda in addition to the ice cream. The cone itself was very fresh. Taste was as expected and had a nice, non-stale crisp to it. The ice cream had a good flavor. No ice crystals, but had that almost gummy texture that can sometimes come from ice cream with preservatives. It still was delicious though. Overall, a great experience.
