They went to other dental consultations where everything mentioned above was FREE. After my parents complained and had a full blown public argument with him, Dr. Phan finally refunded them the money. Way to take advantage of senior citizens who are already financially strapped. Then, we find out that he charged my parents' insurance almost $200 for the "consultation." Dr. Phan and his team were so amazing and guided me the whole way! I was so nervous but everything went very smoothly so I would definitely recommend coming here. They made sure that I had everything ready to take of myself afterward and gave me detailed instructions and a video. I would give 5 stars for Dr Phan and the dental staff - they were very warm , friendly and informative . Got my wisdom teeth removed at 38 - you can imagine how scared I was . Dr Phan was very helpful , gentle and talked me through the entire process on what to expect which helped me calm down . The extraction was quick and he talked me through it and let me know what's next to expect at a time :) only mild complaint I have is that it is pricey- it was 550 dollars to get 1 teeth removed( anesthesia seems to be the more expensive option- to be put to sleep is over $700 ) . Amazing work by Dr. Phan and his team. He was professional, good bed side manners and very knowledgeable. I went in for my consultation last week after I read how bad the billing dept was and the front desk was. Lupita took my X-rays and explained in detail what my after care would like if I decided to extract my teeth. Dr. Phan came in and saw the X-rays and suggested I only extract one wisdom tooth as opposed to all 4 ( the dentist suggested I extract all 4). Dr. Phan could have extracted all 4, easy work for him but he was ethical and didn't think about the money but more about keeping my teeth if I didn't have problems. I already liked him. I called them on Monday 01/20 to make appointment for my sister on 01/23 @9AM and gave them all info of her 2 insurances. They obviously forgot to put her into schedule and make her to come back @3:30PM. Then they called her around 3PM to say that they could only use 1 insurance since Cigna took time for pre-auth. My goodness why wait til very last minute to tell patient that?? And the front desk was rude and irresponsible. Got my wisdom teeth pulled out from Dr.Thomas, the person who quoted did not explain my bill at all and I felt so rushed because I was getting my procedure done that very same day. They over estimated me and made me pay out of pocket almost $900, called my insurance and I should have not paid that much. Double check with your insurance before you book an appointment. Dr. Phan and his assistant Melvin are amazing! I had my wisdom teeth pulled about a week ago. During the procedure I chose to be put under. The procedure was done in under 30 minutes. While he worked on me he had my mom go to the pharmacy to grab all my medication. I really appreciated that once the pain started to kick in! The front desk ladies were also very kind and helpful. Today I walked in because I was having a horrible taste in my mouth and was scared that it had become infected. Basically the reviews are true. The dental team was flawless, but the billing team could improve. I called a month in advance for a 4 wisdom teeth removal and had everything done on the same day. The events were front desk paperwork - consultation - paying - procedure. It was smooth but I minus a star because during the paying part we were charged a $1100 difference compared to the updated price and it got corrected after my dad asked why it was so different from my siblings price while I was in surgery. My recommendation is YES come here for the dentists but sort out the pricing with your insurance and front desk/billing team before heading in. I didn't have a problem with bad service from anyone there so be the one to ask questions about the bill. I went back to work after five days without experiencing a dry socket and only taking the pain medication once on Day 1. read more

The only good thing i can say about this place are the dental assistant and receptionist. Careful with billing, went in for an implant this was a second consultation and they explained i had enough bone to do the implant. During the very rough handled where everything was prepaid implant procedure Dr. Phan stopped and said only "we can not complete the implant today instead we have to do a bone graft" never was i informed during or after the procedure about cost he sent me on my way and i went back for check up around a month after, again never was informed about any payment or cost! In my head i was up to date with my payment. 6 months after the appointment i went in for a check up on the bone graft and was cleared to produce with my implant i schedule it in the front desk and they show me my remaining balance. Apparently they used the prepaid 1070 for my implant for the bone graft and I had a left over balance of almost 200 dollars they just left in my account they never mentioned. They had 6 months to inform me of this. I went back to the first place that did the consultation for the implant and of course we had x-rays done, my new place inform me when they looked at my old and new x-rays that Dr Phan didn't even use a lot of bone graft and it was unnecessary so they basically just opened me up were very rough so i had a panic attack and was crying during the procedure just to charge more ? places like this are why people hate getting dental work done. Also the manager is USELESS i went in around 5 times and she never spoke to me about anything waited 45 mins for someone to talk and explain to about the billing and why i wasn't informed about the balance and she only came out after granted a refund because after almost an hour of no answers about the balance bills I needed to leave and raised my voice because i was getting no answers. The next day i only realized she was the manager because she wrote the check for the refund. You would think she would address the issue after i was given the balance, when i walked out i told her it wouldn't been so much easier if she just talked to me she tired to argue that she did but she didn't. So I was referred to this location for wisdom teeth extraction by my dentist. Wisdom teeth removal was quick and painless. (Besides the numbing shots) The assistant highly encouraged me to be put to sleep during the procedure, which I refused. The process took about 30 mins, and I did not feel any pain at all. I had Metlife dental so it covered about 80% of the procedure. Total cost out of pocket was about $280. Probably depends on your situation, I pulled out 1 top, and the 2 impacted bottom ones. I was referred to this dental office by my dentist for wisdom teeth removal, and Dr. Pham performed the procedure effectively. Throughout the procedure, Dr. Pham provided clear and thorough explanations. However, the billing department lacks effective communication skills. They informed me that I would need to pay the full amount before the procedure and that a refund check would be issued as my insurance would cover some of the cost. Unfortunately, this was not the case. You have to call multiple times to even discuss the refund check. As mentioned in other reviews, this office completely blindsides patients with the billing and cost. When I contacted the billing department to inquire about the refund check, I was met with hostility. When picking up my check, the lady was being unprofessional and gave me attitude, stating, "we normally don't do this," and well normally the billing team communicates with you how much you're going to be charged. read more

I was referred to Berryessa Oral Surgery to get my wisdom teeth removed and had a great experience. Dr. Phan and his staff were professional and provided a lot of information on healing and aftercare. I had a straightforward surgery and smooth healing process. During the consultation I was provided with a payment estimate that I was required to pay up front. A couple weeks later I received my Explanation of Benefits from my dental insurance on the actual costs of the treatment. I had to look up what this meant, but generally dentists as small businesses can't know exactly what your insurance will cover and can't afford to be chasing clients down for missed payments so they'll initially charge an estimate. IMPORTANT: if you see that the total cost for the services is less than the amount you paid upfront, you simply call the office to get the refund started. They're not ripping you off or anything. read more

A procedure long overdue, Alas the time has come. A recent one for me, Many moons ago for some. I came to get my wisdom teeth removed, Not one or two, but all four! I know reading that can be scary, Pushing many out the door. But to be honest, it wasn't bad! The first appointment was swift. I didn't understand a thing or two at first, But Dr. Phan was super legit. He gave me the full 101, The staff explained the entire procedure, I felt extremely reassured, Heck, they even reassured my mother! Within seconds of anesthesia, I fell into a deep sleep. To be slowly awoken, With no soreness around my teeth! I got my pain medication in advance, And phone calls from Dr. Phan. To make sure I knew what I needed, From jello to mashed potatoes on the pan ;)! ------------------------------------------------------------------- Overall my experience was great! I was referred to Dr. Phan by my primary dentist Dr. Dorlikar over at Evergreen Family Dentistry. Getting my wisdom teeth removed in my 20s was definitely scary, especially since I was worried about the recovery process. But they really did a great job explaining all the prep work that I needed to do beforehand + with the aftercare. A big plus that they were able to explain it Vietnamese for my mother too :)! I knocked off one star from my review because of how they handled my payment. There was an amount left that my insurance didn't cover and instead of giving me a call to let me know, I got a letter in the mail from them two months later saying that they were going to get their lawyer to act on it if I didn't pay up soon. As someone with anxiety and ptsd, the all caps in their letter and the mention of bringing an attorney for action came off as a scary threat, especially since this could have been solved with a simple phone call. But when I came into the office during the weekday to provide my remaining amount, the receptionist handled the matter so kindly that all the scary feelings from the letter were swept away. The lady from front office called me the day before asking me to come early as they had an opening. I showed up 15 mins before my new appointment time and signed in. I sat down and waited patiently while a couple other patients who came in after me with later appointment times were called. After 30 mins I got up and spoke to the 2 female staff members at the front desk. My review is about my consultation appointment with Thomas Phan to discuss the removal of my wisdom teeth. His front desk Gabby and Tiffany and his assistant Melvin were all extremely nice and kind. Everything was great until the oral surgeon ("Dr. Thomas Phan") came into the room to discuss what to do with my wisdom teeth. He started off with saying "the younger the better" when it comes to extracting wisdom teeth. He asked how old I am and i said 28. He began to belittle and blame me for knowing about my wisdom teeth and deciding to wait 10 years to remove them. He continues to repeat "so you knew for 10 years! you knew 10 years you had wisdom teeth and you didn't remove them." He constantly repeats this phrase and this blaming continues through the entire appointment even after I mentioned that my orthodontist never mentioned about removing my wisdom teeth nor did the other dentists that I have been to before, all because I was never in pain. Thomas Phan interrupts me and asks when I got my braces done and I said at 16. He continues to blame and says "see? you even knew WAY before you were 18. So you knew for more than 10 years." So in reality, I spent 70$ for a consultation to sit and be belittled for waiting more than 10 years to take my wisdom teeth out. By the end of the appointment, I share with him that I don't appreciate him putting all that blame on me. He states "it's no ones fault, its not your fault." and apologizes to me BUT soon after I mentioned "so if my orthodontist did not tell me about my wisdom teeth, is it their fault?" Thomas Phan states "no it's not their fault and maybe they did mention it but you were too young to even pay attention." ... So he continues to belittle even after apologizing. I really can't speak for his performance of surgery but the way he speaks to people is so rude, degrading, and not a way any healthcare provider should speak to their patient. As a future medical professional myself, I have worked with other surgeons, doctors, nurses, and physician assistances inter- professionally and I've never met a health provider as discourteous and impolite as this oral surgeon. "Dr. Phan" shows an extreme lack of compassion and empathy for his patients. He is one of the most pretentious, egregious and most undeserving of his medical degree. I'm writing this as I wait for my procedure to happen. First off, let me say that my dentist referred me here bc Dr. Phan and my dentist work in the same building. I have never met Dr. Phan prior to the day of my procedure but I have interacted with their front desk receptionists (PLURAL). I called three weeks ago to make an appointment and provided them my dad's SSN so they can look up my insurance policy number. Cool. Earlier this week, they left a message on my phone saying that they need my dad's social. I called them back and mentioned I already gave it to them, but they mentioned "we never got it." Ok....fine, so I gave it to them again. The day before my appointment, they called me TWICE (two hours apart) to remind me that I have an appointment coming up. I was literally so confused but at that point I already knew this office was going to be disorganized. Booooyyyyy, I was right. I came in 15 mins before my procedure and noticed there are only four seats located in their SUPER SMALL lobby but they had way more patients in the lobby than seats. It was literally like a madhouse. They had probably 4-5 receptionists running around the office talking on the phone and checking people in. Phones were ringing left and right. Some phones were even on speaker as they were calling insurance. Definitely not a pleasant experience. I even noticed a receptionist stressing out and blew up on a patient. Totally unprofessional. It was evident that they clearly overbooked the ONE surgeon's schedule. Poor guy. Unless it was his orders lol. Anyway, so I got called in around 315 (for my 3pm appt) and was asked to take the pano x rays and was briefed on how much i'd have to pay, blah blah. After viewing my x rays with the FRONT DESK LADY, she told me I should remove all of my wisdom teeth instead of doing what my dentist recommended. I was like are you serious? LOL excuse me, where is your degree to be offering me dental advice?! But I didn't say that. But anyway she didn't want to argue with me so Dr. Phan briefed me on my x rays and was happy to do what I requested (which was what my dentist recommended). He then played a video for me about post op procedure. THEN... The same front desk lady literally escorted me OUTSIDE the office to tell me to sit in the hallway to wait until my turn. Let me reiterate that -- my appointment was at 3 and I pretty much did not get seen until 5!!!!! and they are having me sit OUTSIDE the office because they lack sufficient chairs for their patients. 4:15 - they just called me in to sign a consent form but they CANNOT find it in their big stacks of paper.... And when they did, they told me to wait an ADDITIONAL 30 mins for the doctor to see me. Are you serious. There is literally ZERO point in scheduling an appointment here. 4:30 - they called me into a room to SIT. Lol. 5:05 they JUST gave me numbing shots. 5:11 another receptionist just referred to me as another patient. Holy shit am I glad that she is not performing the procedure or she would've removed the wrong tooth!!!!! 5:15 dr Phan and prodigy (lmao) came in and removed my tooth. Literally took TWO minutes!!!! Maybe even less. And then I left!! The two stars are for the two minutes it took for my procedure. But literally everything else was the absolute worst. The front desk and the billing employees are very bad, they don't explain much about insurance. You should call yourself first to verify your insurance coverage before you make appointment for consultation or treatment because they will make you to pay first and if insurance pay them later, they will send you a check. Since they already got your money, they will either delay or won't bill insurance. It is terrible service. You should go home and have second opinion. DO NOT take treatment same day. I was referred here by my Ortho to extract my impacted canine so, I called for a consultation. The office is small and seem very busy. Waited 20 minutes before I got called in, waited another 15 minutes before the surgeon come in. He looked at my 3D scan, told me how it was gonna go down, let me watch post oral surgery after care, asked if I have any question. He sent me out to make an appointment. The receptionist go over my insurance and said I have to pay $29 today for the consultation because it's $179 and insurance only pay $150. I asked her how come you did not tell me I have to pay for consultation? She just look at me dumb then I asked her, shouldn't it get deduct from the final cost since I choose to go the surgery? Still look at me with a clueless face. I paid the fee, asked her how much I have to pay on the day of surgery etc.. made the appointment. Left the building and had to go back because she forgot to give me the before surgery handout because I have to fast 8 hours. On the day of surgery, office open at 9AM. I arrived at 8:45AM and am the third patients. Asked to pay before checking in, another receptionist hand me the bill and it's $100 more than the original quote. I was pissed and question her. She just kept saying she don't know. She said she will investigate and refund me if there is a mistake. I got no choice but to pay. Got on the dentist chair, the surgeon explain everything to my husband and I then send him off to buy all the medicine. I was told not to eat or drink but he pre-med me with antibiotics with water. I remember asking him if it was okay for me to drink water and he said yeah. IV in, gas on and I was kO, I remember waking up feeling sick, I threw up and was wheel out to my husband. Got home and threw up again, took a 2 hour nap and felt better. Surgeon called me 9 hours later to check on me. I told him I threw up and such. He said the receptionist didn't give you extra gauzes? I said nope. He asked if the receptionist made me a follow appointment. I said nope. He schedule the post oral surgery appointment himself. The healing process was ok and went back 2 week later for post oral surgery. Didn't see the surgeon but only his assistant. Worst part is he doesn't even know which tooth I got extracted. Why 3 stars? It's for the surgeon. The assistant is not up to speed. The receptionist is irresponsible. All in all I have to pay extra $279. $179 for the stupid consultation fee no one told me about and $100 for the extra charge on top of my ordinal quote. Got Rob Big Time. read more

Below are more detailed explanations for the three points listed above. 1. I got my two upper wisdom teeth extracted. After the surgical site was injected with anesthetic, I waited for about 15 minutes for the numbing to take full effect. The entire procedure (opening the sites, extraction of both wisdom teeth, and stitching the sites back up) took about 5 minutes total. I didn't feel any pain, just some pressure. 2. Aside from the wisdom teeth extraction, I came to the consultation prepared to discuss another procedure that my orthodontist had recommended. After I brought it up, Dr. Phan gave me a well-informed explanation as to why he recommended against it. Whereas other doctors might have agreed to the procedure to appease their client as well as to make more money off of them, Dr. Phan gave me advice that had my best interests at heart. Since my procedure was on a Friday, Dr. Phan went out of his way to personally call me on the following Sunday (when his office was closed) to check up on me and offer postoperative care pointers. I missed his first call, and he left me a detailed voicemail, but he was very thorough and called me a second time to repeat his message and to make sure that I was doing okay. Based on my interactions with Dr. Phan, I can tell that he cares for his patients and only wants what's best for them. 3. Dr. Phan and his staff were professional and efficient. The period of time that I waited in the waiting room on the day of my consultation and on the day of my procedure never exceeded 10 minutes. Throughout my consultation, and on the day of the procedure, Dr. Phan and his staff were very thorough in their explanations of the procedure and postoperative care, and they were patient in answering all of my questions. 3/10/2021 1030am- Retrain your front desk workers. I should've asked her name!! She didn't answer the phone stating her name, lucky for her!! Don't interrupt me when I'm explaining something!! Your sassy attitude leaves a huge impression. I've been waiting 2 months for a referral from our dental insurance which was supposedly submitted second week of january 2021. I did not hear back from the office, so I called the 3rd week of January, still no referral. Called back the last week of January and was told they would resubmit it. Third week of February 2021 I get a letter in the mail stating dental treatment is approved, but office never called me letting me know they "had received" the payment for treatment. Called 1st week of March, another worker stated it has to get resubmitted? What is she talking about? I got a letter saying it's already been approved. Today 3/10/21 1030am- I call again and this sassy worker tells me that it's my responsibility to call the dental insurance for payment for treatment. My responsibility? Since when is it the responsibility of the patient? So, if this is true then why was I not told that it was my responsibility back in January to get the referral/ payment for treatment??? Today, 2 months later I'm told this? I have NEVER EVER had to call any dental insurance to have them send over payment for treatment before! NEVER! What was the point of your office requesting referral then?? In which, I was told today your office never received. Does your front desk workers or whom ever not follow up? This is money your office is losing because of your lazy employees. If they don't plan to follow up or don't plan to get the payment for treatment/referral then maybe let your patients know that it's OUR RESPONSIBILITY to get that information from our dental insurance and have it sent to your office. Then I asked the girl this morning how should the dental insurance send over the payment for treatment? Fax? Mail? It seemed as though she didn't know. I asked for the fax number and she gave it to me, but really?! What was the hesitation for? Isn't it going to be received via fax or mail? Get knew staff! One's that are not lazy! BEWARE - If your are referred I am a Medicare patient, with Liberty Dental Ins.; and I needed to have a wisdom tooth removed. I was referred to Dr. Thomas Phan., and got a quick appointment. A couple of hours before the visit, I got a call from Dr. Phan's office; my co-pay would be 80%?? How much, I asked? I was told... $583.00!! Ouch! Just to have a wisdom tooth extracted. I said "No thanks". Called up my wife's dentist; and they did it immediately; no insurance; total price with full-mouth X-rays $240.00 Dentist spent just 5 min.! Can't understand why they charge so much. Buyer beware!! If you have a lot of dental work, think of going down to Tia Juana. The cost is about 30% of USA rates; and have even Harvard qualified dentists with the most up to date equipment. Most of them have US phones as well. read more

I was really nervous about getting all 4 wisdom teeth extracted. I've heard horror stories from people. The procedure was quick, about an hour, and Dr. Phan put me at ease. At 4 hours post surgery, once the bleeding stopped and took a dose of prescribed ibuprofen, I felt fine to eat soft foods and walk around my house and do dishes. I did not need the stronger prescribed pain medications. Also, I didn't have any swelling in the face. The staff at the office are very courteous as well. There was confusion with my appt time as their office wasn't open yet but they were very apologetic when I called and when they arrived. Dr. Phan also called me after 7 pm to see how I was doing. This doctor loved to stick needle into my arm so that he could bill the insurance! I was referred by my dentist to have a tooth extracted. There were so many times I kept telling him that I wanted to preserve my insurance money for other dental procedures. He made it sound like I was going to die if I chose to have local anesthesia; talking about pressure and milking the insurance for money, lol. When I told him that I did not want to do it, he became upset and left the room. So, I went to another oral surgeon to get it done. The procedure took literally 5 minutes... Came here just for a wisdom teeth consult after being referred by my dentist literally 3 doors down the hallway. My wisdom teeth were starting to break through and was getting pretty uncomfortable to eat, but still manageable. I walked in just thinking I was going to get a bunch of information and an x-ray, but I walked out with a price quote and an appointment for my wisdom teeth removal, all in just 30 minutes!! Wisdom teeth removal is probably an everyday procedure for this place and they've made the process super simple, not scary, and easy for any patient undergoing oral surgery for the first time. I went in, watched a video (that looked like it was made in the 90s) on what to expect and do before/after the surgery, got an xray, discussed removal and anesthesia with Dr. Phan, discussed financials/insurance with the front desk, made an appointment, and DONE. Day of, I remember going in, getting an IV, getting comfortable, and then falling asleep! I woke up, mouth was numb, was groggy, got wheelchaired to the car, and then woke up at home. Recovery was easy and painless! I had 3 wisdom teeth removed, and my mouth experienced mostly soreness than pain. Just listen to the doctor and don't eat any solids or drink through a straw the first week. I was off pain meds by day 3. Honestly, you will experience no complications if you listen and follow Dr. Phan's after care directions. Went back in for a 2 week check up, all was good, and I never came back....and that's a good thing! read more

My appointment was at 12:00 pm for my wisdom tooth removal, I did inform them of being late by 10 minutes, and I got there by 12:10. Everything seemed to be going fine, filled everything out, and thought I would be taken in right away because mind you, there was no other patients in the waiting room. However, I did not get inside until nearly 1:00 pm. Once, I got in, Dr. and his assistants gave me what I needed and played a video to watch before the procedure. Dr. numbed me around 1:15, then left the room, and I waited for another 40-45 minutes. He then came in and did the procedure under 10 minutes. He was kind, however I just didn't understand why I had to wait nearly 2 hours for a 5-10 min procedure. Sorry to those who experienced the staff being rude to them, hopefully they can do better in the future. read more

This is my first time removing a wistom tooth, and I was a little nervous. Dr. Phan was very efficient at removing my wistom tooth, which was big and growed horizontally. He finished the entire procedure, not including the numbing time, in probably less than 5 or 10 minutes, so I did not feel unconfortable at all.
