Cute little loft that looks like it may have been a house before but I was told it used to be a tiny bank with one teller window (still there). I liked the warm lighting and nice touch with chandelier. I think I found my spot. They also do men's cut and kids cut was well. Not only is it professional to respond to each and every client review but it tells much about Bert's character as does the care one receives in his chair. Bert is an experienced specialist so he makes work look easy. You know you are in good hands. I needed help deciding whether to color the grey - to hide it for only a few weeks - or - to incorporate a shade of platinum blond so to look natural longer! A bit of brassiness needed correcting and the Toner softened it beautifully into a gorgeous harmonized shade. This was the first time I followed recommendation from Yelp and my experience was great. I absolutely cannot recommend Bert's Hair Salon enough. In the past 3 times that I visited; I got consistent quality service. I have hardly been comfortable with other establishments, in the past. Most of them didn't have experience with different types of hair and more important, they didn't even listen to my request on what exactly I wanted. The best thing about Bert LaMar is that he serves one customer at a time where you get his full attention. Bert listened to me, asked questions, checked my hair and took time to color, highlight, cut and style exactly the way that I wanted. Somewhere I saw a picture of him with his daughter and got a sense of really good energy from it. My intention was strictly to get a quick haircut and styling of which I was in desperate need! I recently went there to get my hair dyed and a trim and he did a perfect job. I asked for a reddish-brown color for fall and winter and he delivered beautifully. It felt very Zen to me, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. ‍ But all of that aside, Kelly's skills are what really deserve the spotlight. I have been looking for someone who truly knows how to cut curly hair for YEARS. My daughter and her friends recommended Kelly, and OMG...they were RIGHT! Kelly is an absolute perfectionist. She took her time with my hair and paid attention to every detail, making sure everything flowed beautifully and blended perfectly. Curly hair is a completely different beast and requires a different approach to cutting, and Kelly absolutely ROCKED it. I honestly don't know if Kelly advertises herself as a curly-hair specialist, but she really should because she has the skills! I walked out of there feeling like I finally found my person. Thank you, Kelly, for giving me the haircut I've been searching for all these years. You are officially--and forever--my girl! If you have curly hair and have been struggling to find someone who understands how to cut it, GO SEE KELLY. You won't regret it!

I love the shampoo wash she does in the beginning with a light temple massage & after the cut she blows your hair out to perfection, so make sure you have something planned for the day she does it so you can show it off lol. And to you Yelpers, thank you too for finding me a great stylist! Me and a friend had originally planned on booking an appointment with another stylist but it fell thru when the owner wasn't available to do our hair. Not to sound pretentious and snobby, but I'd prefer the owner or director do my hair than a stylist. The reason for that is, they succeeded enough to open THEIR own salon and they have that credibility. Abe I believe is not the owner or Genesis Salon, but because I had read the few five star reviews he has, and was nearby my workplace, I decided to check him out. I called, left a voicemail, and Abe promptly returned my call. I scheduled an appointment, and two hours later was entering the salon with my friend. Now, for my consultation, I had recently had a cut and color done at Premier at Sears with Sonya. I had asked to go brown, but it really didn't make a dent on my black hair. Damn. So wanting a softer appearance for personal and work, I had wanted to do a full head color but to the suggestion of Abe, highlighting might have been better. Sadly, it is not better. It is worse. I look like I belong in a gang with big baggy denim and a wife-beater to match. The red undertones show thru, the tips are too light, and there is no uniformity with the hightlights. The trim on the otherhand, miraculous. He definitely helped to clean up the uneven unsightly hair from my previous cut and I love the fact that he doesn't use a clipper. Nor did I see one in my sight. Abe had mentioned to me that he'll fix it, and I will have to take him up on that offer. But other than that, love the trim. He's a fun person to talk to and a great stylist. Thanks again Yelpers for recommending. ^^
