Update - I went to pick up another load of "dry cleaning" today. Or, what I thought was dry cleaning. What do I mean? I had dropped off a few of my husbands button down work shirts and a full size down-alternative comforter. The comforter came back to me in a plastic zip-up covering which I like, and cost only $38 which is pretty good for a comforter. What I am unhappy about is that I was told upon pick-up that two of the shirts had a residual "grease" stain on them (?? what? they're shirts...) that the "water couldn't get out" and would need to be dry cleaned. Wait. Stop. Is that not what you just did? Answer: no, apparently not. Unfortunately for another reviewer who thought his shirts had been dry cleaned for the amazing price of $2-something a shirt, they were not. Unless specified, Besson's Cleaners simply launder your shirts with water for $2-something a shirt. Dry cleaning has to be specified and is $5.95/shirt. Because I was already there and the stain has to be dealt with, I simply told her to take them back and DRY CLEAN them this time, and to go ahead and add to my account that if I bring something to them, I WANT IT DRY CLEANED. If I can just launder it, I'll do it at home, thank you. I'm not happy about having to pay twice for these shirts to be cleaned, that the stains may still not come out, that I have to come back, and that they never specified this "policy" to me in the first place. I've never had this issue at any other cleaner. This is probably enough for me to look for another cleaner in the future. So be warned - IF YOU WANT IT DRY CLEANED, SPECIFY IT! They are SO nice here! And they do a great job. I have a black re-usable garment bag that I like to use instead of all the plastic bags, and they are totally willing to do that for me. They have a great turn around time- able to hem a dress for me I took in on Wed night that I needed on Saturday and it was no problem. Awesome dry cleaner. There is stiff competition for dry cleaning service in the area, and after trying out each one, Besson is clearly the best. The prices are on average with the rest of the area if not more affordable. Price aside, what keeps me coming back is the great customer service. You are always greeted with a huge smile the second you walk in and the owners treat you like family even if you use their services sparingly. They always do a fantastic job and the turn around is pretty quick. I really like that they do their dry cleaning on premise instead of shipping clothes to a central facility. My only criticism is that their heavy starch could be more crisp. I like my creases razor sharp! Aside from standard dry cleaning, Besson offers many more services including on-site tailoring and shoe repaired. I have had my heels replaced, tapped, and buffed all for about 25 dollars. Besson's Cleansing is truly the best dry cleaning establishment in D.C. Before going to Besson's, I went to three other dry cleaners in the area who were average. One place cleaned a brand new pair of pants and ironed them incorrectly where they left faded marks in the fabric and the pockets looked melted. I was told by other dry cleaners that nothing could be done to fix this. I took them into Besson's hoping they could fix them, even if it was just a minor improvement to the damaged fabric, and somehow they worked a miracle and made them look brand new again! I take everything here now, and will only be going here in the future. Everyone I've talked to here is unbelievably kind, and to second another review that was left about them, they're very honest about the proper way to clean an item and they won't upsell you. I've always had excellent experiences with their cleaning and customer service, but recently realized an added bonus: the on site alterations are really exceptional for a drycleaner. I had two suits altered to fit me after losing some weight. The tailor/seamstress pinned everything out and the suits came back fitting exactly as I had hoped in just a week. I love this place. There are endless dry cleaners in the Dupont area but I walk a few blocks east and come to Besson's. It took Yelp for me to find this place but I am so glad I did. Not only are the people who work here very friendly but also they are pretty speedy with service. Prices are reasonable, about the same as other dry cleaners in the DC area. One thing which really made this place stand out is when I went to pick up my clothing this past Monday. After I paid for my dry cleaning the woman handed me a lint brush. Yes, I was excited about a lint brush. It was a nice Christmas gift and 'thank you' to their customers (and it also supports the Toys for Tots organization). I will continue to bring my clothes here for excellent customer service and alterations. read more

I dropped off an evening dress at Besson's Cleansing and *took off the tag before I walked in*. The dress was brand new, and I needed the bottom hemmed about three inches -- I also pinned the bottom myself so I am positive the dress was in perfect condition. On a Saturday, I picked up the dress and wore it that night to a formal event. On that Sunday, I noticed that the inside of the lining was completely destroyed in the back (there are ripples across the bottom, and it is fuzzy), and there was new stitching far higher than the hem. Again, as I attended a formal event that evening: 1. I did not go to another cleaner between the time I picked it up and wore the dress; and 2. I do not recall rubbing the inside of the lining against the concrete. I asked Besson's to fix the lining of the dress or refund the cost of the hemming -- both which they refused and said that my shoes or wearing the dress caused the damage -- even though a quick google search will show that this is a common problem with dry cleaning. Look - I understand that mistakes happen and obviously do not assume that this was done intentionally. But, refunding the cost of the hem at the minimum would have been the professional response. In addition, I echo someone's post below that notes to NOT get hemming done here due to the cost. This cost $35 -- they said it was because they had to hem both the outside of the dress and the lining. Yet, about two months ago, I was charged $40 to hem a dress without a lining. Again, I do not recommend Besson's Cleansing due to the unprofessional response and the poor quality of work. read more

Overall, they're a great service. They're very friendly and have done a good job with my clothes. Fairly cheap for normal dry cleaning - about $1.80 per men's shirt and with quick turnaround. Taking away one star though because their alterations are overpriced in my opinion. I was charged $20 just to hem a pair of jeans. I think that's a bit much. They did a good job, but I feel like just doing a hem should be more like $10-15. read more

I have used Besson's Cleansing twice for laundry pickup/drop off. Their service is phenomenal! They truly show that they care. Their employee Dominic picked up the laundry and showed kindness, professionalism, and was very communicative. Truly a great wash and fold to use while traveling with a family. Its expensive at $3 a pound as far as wash and fold goes nationwide (More common would be under $2.) But they did a great job, same day service and i had 8 lbs done for $25. Have you ever had your hotel do laundry at like $12 for each pair of shorts, $8 for socks... you would spend $100s so they are worth it - so i can spend those hundreds eating. Super nice folks - I've never gotten but the BEST customer service here. They even let me walk my dog into the store when picking up/dropping off clothes. Prices are a tad high but I guess that's city living for ya. (About $15 to dry clean a 2-piece men's suit and $15 to hem men's pants.) However, DO NOT get your nice dresses hemmed here. I had a fairly inexpensive ($68) bridesmaids dress hemmed here and was shocked at the $70 charge. I expected something more in the $30 range based on past experience. On the upside, they were able to hem the dress in under a week's time, but they didn't list any extra upcharges for the speedy service so I have to assume that $70 is their standard fee for women's dress hemming. On the downside, the hemming still left the dress a little long so now I can only wear it with the tallest heels. (Not to mention the dress cost less than the hemming charge... so I'm sure it will disintegrate after a few more wears...) read more

Went to Besson's for a bridesmaid dress hem. The job was more than the regular bottom hem - the sides needed to be taken in several inches per side. They did a great job, on very short notice. I got chided for bringing it in with so little notice, but the job still got done in time and turned out great. ($55 for the sides to be taken in) Will go back and have other items hemmed. read more

I have to echo what everyone else says about this place. It's not the cheapest but I don't even mind the price because I know that my clothes will look perfect. I have used them three times so far. When I had a dress to get drycleaned that had an expensive sort of brooch/pin sewn on, they removed it before cleaning the dress and then resewed the pin back on. I have only met one women there before, but she always has such a big smile on her face when you come in. My go-to dry cleaner in Logan Circle. I've lived in the area for ~18 months and, in my experience, this is the best and most trustworthy dry cleaner there. I've given them everything from straightforward dry cleaning to spot stains to sewing/alterations, and they've handled it all spectacularly. Their staff is super warm and welcoming, and honest and up front about what they can and cannot accomplish (which I sincerely appreciate); their prices are reasonable; and their turnaround is quick. Lee and Phil are an excellent addition to the neighborhood. Friendly, accommodating, and most importantly, do all their cleaning in-house rather than outsourcing the cleaning. I've had about three buttons on three separate button down dress shirts missing over the period of four months, but considering I take at least 5-7 shirts in weekly, that's not too bad for me, especially with the shop being nice about fixing the button for your next pickup. The shop also does some basic alterations in-house. I've had five pairs of pants taken in at the waist and hem, and have been totally satisfied with the work done here every time. read more

I went to three other dry cleaners before committing to these guys. The service is incredibly friendly. They not only know your name, but what's going on in your life- and schedule to accommodate it. For example, I went in today with about 12 items of clothes and asked when they thought they could get it all done. The woman who works there asked when I was going to be traveling again, because she knows that I travel so frequently. I responded that I'd be leaving in two mornings. And to meet my needs, she said all my dry cleaning would be done tomorrow afternoon! (at no additional cost). Not only is the service great, but the quality of the dry cleaning is wonderful. I've sent in some very fine and delicate dresses and shirts, and they've come back clean and in tip top shape. The color is maintained and the clothes come out looking brand new. I also went into get my shoes fixed- about $3 more expensive than going to a shoe-repair place, but it saved me a trip! Summary- quality work, affordable prices, and accommodating staff. I waited until my third service to write this review, just to make sure it was as great as I thought. First of all, the work is perfect. I had a pair of very fine pants, a dress impossible to be cleaned (it has been like that for a year) and finally, a bridesmaids dress that needed to have the bust area modified two inches. Everything was ready on time, and perfectly done. Second, the staff is very friendly, and they listen to your concerns. This is high-end cleaning for the neighbourhood, but with affordable prices! I write this with great reluctance because I do appreciate immigrants trying to do their best and running a business. But what just happened was simply unacceptable. I just got back a brand new $250 shirt from them and there were blue stains on the right sleeve. I took it back to them and they tried to tell me it was already there when I brought it to them. I offered to show them the receipt to show that it was new, I just didn't want to iron it myself, and then finally they said they'll try to take it out for me. They tried. It's still blue. And not once was there ever an apology uttered. I'm not gonna make a fuss about this but I just hope folks are aware of this kind of attitude if you take your clothes there. read more

I've been a regular customer and my clothes were taken good care of, alterations were great, and the team was always friendly. The one time they messed something up they didn't want to take any responsibility for it. I'm disappointed. If you don't...continue reading: The first few times we came here they were amazing. It's been difficult to find a reliable dry cleaner in the DC area, and the fact that Bessons picks up was a dream come true. After a few times though my boyfriend started noticing his shirts smelled. It was a must smell combined with B.O. kind of like someone didn't actually clean, but just steamed a shirt so that all of the existing smells multiplied. THEN we started noticing that buttons were breaking and we were getting notes that our clothing had been fixed. Weirdly our clothing hadn't been broken. Initially we thought it was out of the goodness of their hearts but then we realized they were breaking all of the buttons on every single shirt. There were a few times when they failed to pick up our clothes, but we ignored it because shit happens. THE FINAL STRAW was when we received the most recent round of clothing we had dropped off and everything was ruined beyond repair, shirts that hadn't been stained prior to dropping off were severely stained. For the Guys: This is one of few (there are nearly zero) dry cleaners in the city that irons mens shirts like shirts, not like blouses. Blouse=collar pressed downward onto the front of the shirt. Shirt=Collar pressed individually in order to stand erect at a man's neck. The proprietors are friendly, generous, and show extreme attention to detail. I have used many local dry cleaners (Bergman's, Soapy Joes (Avoid), Dupont Court Cleaners) and Besson's is the best by far. Also, if you have a decent amount of dry cleaning per week, they offer pick up and delivery at no charge. read more
