Showed him multiple videos exactly like this. Had to go through corporate to get it fixed at another shop. Got it fixed at another shop. Do not go to Rommel. Corporate is alright. Rommel will say he couldn't duplicate the problem. He claimed it was fixed and it got stuck in gear 2 days later and I showed him a video. Rommel demanded to see a timestamp. Claimed he fixed it again. Got stuck in gear. He told me truck shifted beautifully and to take it back to Texas and see if they want to give me a new transmission. He does not stand by his work. When one of his techs said he heard the noise I was telling them about, Rommel yelled at him. In front of me. Then he yelled at him in the back room. Rommel is not cool. Go to Santa Cruz AAMCO if you must go to AAMCO for Warranty work. ​

Brought my 2013 Lexus GS 350 in for a coolant leak and paid about $180 in diagnostic fees. They…read moretold me I needed a full radiator, thermostat, and hoses replaced -- quoted around $1,800. Their own paperwork admitted the cooling system only lost 1 psi in 15 minutes and that they couldn't actually find a leak. I got a second opinion at a dealership. The real problem was just the radiator cap -- the worn cap couldn't hold pressure, so the coolant was boiling over and escaping. About $100 to replace, and the car has run perfectly ever since. The cap was even listed on their own quote (a $26 part), but instead of trying the cheap fix first, they pushed a $1,500 radiator job. Either they couldn't diagnose a basic cooling issue or they were counting on me not getting a second opinion. Get your quote checked elsewhere before paying these guys.

After checking out multiple shops, I decided to take my car to ray at the transmission clinic for a…read morecouple of reasons. First, he's been in gilroy since at least the early 90's. I figured he wouldn't have been in business that long if he was in the habit of screwing over his customers. Second, he's former military and I like supporting veterans. Given the other positive reviews, I expected to get decent service. He's a small independent mechanic with a no frills operation. Ray tells me to bring my car in on Thursday, because he was busy. I come back later that week and drop off my car. Ray then removed the transmission from my car to repair the squeaking noise my clutch was making, rendering it inoperable. Then he stopped working on my car for the next four weeks. Ray began working on other customers cars which were probably better paying than my small job. Week one the excuse was "we are waiting on parts to be delivered ". I knew this was a lie, because all the bearings and parts needed were in stock at the Napa auto parts, two doors down from his shop. Week two he said he was swamped with work, and would get to my car tomorrow. Each day I came to get my car he hadn't made any progress on it. It's about a 4 hour job to fix what needed to be replaced, it took four weeks. By week three, his response became "maybe tomorrow ". What could I do but throw my hands up and wait? My car was apart. By week four, I said this is getting ridiculous, so Ray promised to have my car ready to go by Tuesday at 1:00pm. Promise! By 1 pm the next day my car was not only not ready it was just getting worked on. My ride had to take me back home and I walked to work. Ray had apologized for not having the car ready, he said "sh!% happens, ya know." My car was finished later that day. The damage? $650 for labor (about $130 an hour) and $232 for parts and tax. I feel his prices are fair for the Bay Area. Your experience may vary. I think ray is a decent mechanic, but he has a hard time saying 'no' to other jobs and I suffered as a result. Not the most professional . I'll have my car towed to San Jose next time. I can't recommend this place.
