I had a water pump fail, so I went to the GMC Dealership in Gilroy. They would not give me an appointment because they are booked. Not a good sign for having a GMC vehicle. They took the vehicle in and completed it by the following morning. They did a great job and charged quite a bit less than the original estimate, which was fair to begin with. I recently purchased a classic car in Gilroy and was unfamiliar with the area. Following the good reviews, I had Gilroy Automotive do the pre-sale inspection and they were incredibly helpful and patient to me in the process. They were easy to talk to and explained the rationale for why some things were more immediate versus others and the inspection itself was easy and thorough, as is the online system to review estimates and approve/decline work. Was introduced to this business a few years ago when I was asked to give a ride to a friend to pick up her car from here. I remembered it was a family owned and operated auto repair establishment and thought that would be a great place to check out if the need should ever arise. Thought I'd get an oil change here and was pleased with the same care and service that my friend received (from both the father & the son) even though I didn't drop names nor had the relationship that my friend had with this place. They all seem to always be working as opposed to being on their cell phones or many other things that a small business can experience other than hard work. NEGLIGENT. UNPROFESSIONAL. VEHICLE DAMAGE. BAR COMPLAINT. I trusted Gilroy Automotive Repair to complete the necessary repairs on my 2005 Honda Civic LX in early November 2021 which consisted of an alleged Cylinder Head Gasket/Valve Head Issue. Meanwhile the vehicle was in their shop, they were also scheduled to replace the right rear Door Lock Actuator, all repairs resulting in a total of $2,557.44. (Let me state this. Many can relate to the importance of having a working vehicle for everyday use so I needed to have my car repaired but also did my due diligence in comparing the cost of the repairs, expected time frame and whether it would be worth having this vehicle repaired with other reputable small businesses and the answer was unanimously approved) The completion date was on 11/16, however, there were issues when I picked up the vehicle; coolant odor from the air vents and interior vehicle damage. Both of which were addressed to the shop owner, Jeremy Orosco and his staff. I expressed how unsafe and dangerous this was. Their response was that there was a coolant spill but cleaned it as best as they could. (Listen, I'm not a mechanic or a car expert but even I know this is unacceptable and negligent) Additionally, they had the audacity to state that the vehicle may have another issue which might be causing the vehicle to smell like coolant. (I wish I could say I was making this up but I'm not. You know that saying, if it doesn't look or feel right, it most likely isn't? Well, it wasn't. Keep reading, it only gets worse) While replacing the door actuator, Gilroy Automotive Repair also damaged the interior right rear door while prying off the panel to replace the door lock. Jeremy attempted to justify their actions stating they had to remove a piece of the door and had some difficulty with doing so. (You can now imagine my concern with their workmanship if there was "difficulty" with replacing something as simple as a door lock and it was done incorrectly) Jeremy offered to replace the damaged part, however, the color did not match the interior of the car. Due to my concerns being dismissed, unresolved and getting the run around, the only reasonable thing to do was to file a complaint with the Bureau of Automotive Repair. ( Please visit https://www.bar.ca.gov/Enforcement for more information) Especially since weeks later the vehicle began to tremble uncontrollably, my initial concerns had not been resolved, other repair shops refused to inspect the vehicle and I did not feel comfortable returning to Gilroy Automotive Repair. (I mean, would you?) Meanwhile BAR mediated this investigation, my vehicle was now inoperable. Yes, the vehicle no longer starts. ( Can you imagine if an injury would have resulted due to their defective work? ) Since purchasing this vehicle in 2014, it has been well maintained. In my opinion, Gilroy Automotive Repair is careless, inexperienced, unprofessional and should receive disciplinary action. Going forward, I genuinely hope they work on their workmanship to prevent situations like this from occurring again. read more

Took My RV Motorhome in after talking with the owner (Jeremy) who assured me he could replace my Alternator. The Motorhome was running before they took off the Alternator. After the new Alternator was installed the Motorhome refused to start.. Before starting repairs, the auxiliary fan In the engine compartment continued to run (The Fan is on a short timer that automatically would have turned off in a few minutes after the engine stopped and cooled off) THE Mechanic before he started working on the Motorhome was yelling "How do I turn this fan off" I was sitting in the Motorhome (Physically Disabled) unable to move I tried yelling to him as he started frantically searching for a way to disconnect the fan, him in a panic and in a hurry to finish an easy job. Jeremy the owner later stated to me they had disconnected the fan after pushing all kinds of switches.and buttons. When they tried to start the Bus after the Repair was completed the Motorhome would not start, no matter what they did to find the problem it still wouldn't start ! I was informed they had done nothing wrong and they would appreciate me at my own expense to move my Motor home off their property, and informed me they in fact we're not Diesel Mechanics and had no idea what the problem might be. They informed me the problem was mine, and mine alone ! After sitting with my Motorhome for a couple of days unable to move, I Finally found and called a Mobile Diesel Mechanic from San Jose, who after coming down to Gilroy, found the problem A START IGNITION SWITCH THEY HAD TURNED OFF AND JAMMED. (The MOBILE DIESEL MECHANIC WAS AT MY EXPENSE) AFTER SPENDING NIGHTS IN THE PARKING LOT IN MY UNWANTED MOTORHOME AND FENDING FOR MYSELF, I was Finally on my way NO THANKS TO THIS BUSINESS WHO REFUSED TO ADMIT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR MISTAKE Note: THIS SHOP ASSURED ME THEY COULD DO THE JOB AND WHEN THEY MADE THEIR MISTAKE, TURNING ON, AND OFF SWITCHES, DISABLING THE ENGINE/MOTORHOME, THEY LEFT HOW TO FIX THE STARTING PROBLEM ENTIRELY UP TO ME ! I didn't use their service as it appeared my car is still under the dealership warranty, but.. let me tell you something about their approach to my issue! Hats off for such customer service!! I came to Gilroy Automotive Repair after I noticed burning smell from my engine and they were recommended to me by the local smog check service. As soon as I parked my car I noticed they are very busy, but.. "hey I'm here, why not to see what they can do for me". I went straight to their front desk and asked for help... Once I told them about my issue - Jeremy with one of his mechanics walked with me to the parking lot to inspect my car (I didn't even ask for it!!). Both of them were able to notice the burning smell right away, but were unable to recognize what caused it - they looked around, but obviously without taking all covers off they couldn't see anything (just like me), but Jeremy quickly diagnosed there is a leak somewhere! Ok, everyone would know that even just from my description of the issue, but... he took his efforts to take a look right away without even me asking for it!! He was able to schedule the service for the very next day morning (even he and his Guys had another work to do) making sure I'm not gonna drive this "broken" car anymore! Professional and kind!! Explaining everything! Why I didn't end up to use their help? Only bc I called my dealership to find out I'm still covered by the warranty for the next couple months! What a great news!! But... if something happens to my car after my warranty expires, Gilroy Automotive Repair will be my first choice to go!! We have 4 different types of vehicles (Chevy, Infinity, Toyota, and BMW) and Gilroy auto has always been able to repair them every time with an honest price. The manager and workers their are very friendly and they always finish the job in a reasonable amount of time. This is in my opinion the best auto shop in Gilroy hands down. I work on cars at home and was stuck in a pinch. I pulled out my down pipes off my car and couldn't remove these rusted pressed in studs. I brought it over to Gilroy auto and they were able to punch them out for me. Didn't even charge me for his time punching them out. Going to be heading here for as long as I'm in Gilroy. read more

A family business that treats you like family! I recently brought our tow vehicle in for service to replace a compression clutch that was failing. It was a Friday before we were going camping, and they were able to accommodate us. Unfortunately, the new part failed during our return trip damaging the fan, radiator, belts, hoses, and filters. It stranded us about 100 miles from home - on a Sunday! So how on earth is this a 5-star review? Read on... This place is 10/10! I'm definitely coming back, so this was actually my first time seeking a mechanic and I'm glad I found this place as my first option because you can definitely trust these guys! I went in and immediately they took my car in and inspected what the issue was for a great price too by the way. I had an issue with my car making an unusual noise, after a while, we debunked that it was my fan hitting a guard whenever the A/C was on. These guys that work here are very nice, trustworthy and straightforward to hit the nail on the head when it comes to finding out the issues. My mom and I were driving back from Sequoia National Park. After descending massive mountains, our brakes didn't feel quite right. Had such a great experience. I have a 2016 Dodge Journey and the ac was not working on the passenger side. I took it to lightning repair on railroad and they told me to diagnose it would be $800 because they needed to take my dashboard apart. I wasn't happy with that answer because I feel like that was a little absurd so I did my homework spoke to my boss who is a car collector and said it shouldn't cost more the $200 I looked here on yelp for ac repair and came across another place that said they could look at it but they were busy and didn't have time till the following week. Me I'm impatient and it's summer so next on yelp was here Gilroy automotive repair. They called the owner said sure sounds like something we have felt with before come on by. That was about 11am at 2 we got the call that it was all good to go! He broke it down to me what was wrong in a way that I would understand but not like I was stupid. He was honest and told me about my check engine light that was on and that they checked it and it was my emissions sensor and that he could fix it but my car is leas then 100,000 miles and should still be covered by warranty. He said if not bring it back and we can take care of but the dealership should take care of it for free. He easily could have tried to upcharge and sell me to fix but he didn't he was honest and trustworthy and this is definitely exactly what we needed.
