Well. I finally decided that it was time to cut my four-year-old son's curly hair for the first…read moretime. I love his coils, and I'd put it off for as long as I could. However, his curls were making him hot, and my husband and I agreed that I was time. We'd always said by the time he was four, so...! I finally searched Yelp for curly hair cut, and I landed on PREP. I wanted someone who could do biracial curly hair and someone who was good with kids. I wanted a salon experience for my son's first haircut. PREP had great reviews and Maria was mentioned multiple times. I Googled and found the website, and booking was super easy. The payment was also done online. PREP is located in the Town & Country shopping center, and while the center is busy, it's perfect for a haircut. You can run errands before or after your appointment! Anyway, we entered PREP AT 11:27. I saw reviews that being late was a big no, so we hustled to make sure we did not arrive past 11:30. The salon is clean. They have multiple chairs at at least two shampoo bowls. Our son was a bit hesitant and nervous, so he was shy and started to act up just a bit. Maria had a tablet on deck and that piqued his interest. We talked about the look we wanted to achieve and Maria gave some suggestions. I almost had a heart attack when his ponytail was cut, but I survived! Maria is calm, patient, and easy to work with. She cut his hair and then shampooed, conditioned, and styled his hair. When we asked for a few areas to be fixed, she obliged. I'm super happy with this experience, and I've found our go-to spot. Thank you, Maria!

Review is for a cut with Daisy…read more TLDR: Cut was fine but a shorter than we wanted, and the stylist was incredibly rude & had very little patience or understanding. Told my mom chat about the experience and another mom guessed which stylist it was based on having a very similar experience with Daisy in the past. Long version: Took my son to Prep today for his first haircut. His father and I didn't want much cut off, but he had a few very long scraggly strands and a bit of a rat's tail and I didn't trust myself to trim it and get it right. I messaged the salon ahead of time and warned them that he's 21mo, it was his first cut, and that he may be upset & specifically stated I wanted to warn them about that. They said that was fine and offered for us to come a bit early so he could get comfortable. Got there, he was immediately wary but calmed down with the iPad and a cartoon. Great! Told the hairdresser what we wanted and that I really didn't want much cut off at all and my preference was for less than she'd normally do. She said that was fine, and she'd generally take off 1/2 an inch and in some areas she'd cut more since it was his first cut and the length was very uneven. I said great, but I wanted 1/4 inch as the baseline and understood that some strands definitely needed more than that. My son has beautiful big curls/waves and we wanted to keep as much of that as possible. She starts, he's a bit uncomfortable but focuses on the iPad (thank god for screens when you need them) and is generally doing ok. Yay! At one point I tell her I like the length at the back and don't want more trimmed. She moves to sides. Maybe 3-4 mins later she goes back and is taking more off the back and I told her again I didn't want it any shorter again. I didn't say it rudely, raise my voice, or have any sort of mean tone. I just made the request I had clearly stated from the start. She steps back and huffs and says "I can't work like this!" She proceeds to go on a tirade about how she told me she had to even out his hair so it could grow out properly, and kept saying she can't work like this. I assume the "like this" meant with a parent giving her feedback on the cut. Then she proceeds to SOLELY address my husband as if I was crazy & unreasonable and he was the reasonable man who would set me straight. Also added "and on top of it he's a difficult child and he's constantly moving!" Like... yeah duh? He's not even 2? And I even warned the salon he was likely to be upset! I ended up in tears - she made me feel terrible and I basically told her as much and stepped outside to compose myself. I go back in, and she begrudgingly finishes the cut with a terrible attitude, without any apologies, and then leaves in a huff at the end. She ruined our experience of our son's first haircut - and that's something we'll never get back. I was already emotional at the idea of cutting it, and she really made the experience awful. If a children's stylist isn't used to parents being a bit uneasy for a first time cut, getting feedback on length, or a child that moves and isn't happy to be getting a cut - then frankly she isn't in the right role. Also - giving a hair stylist feedback on length is an incredibly common & normal thing to do! The bare minimum she could have done was given us the feedback with a calm and professional attitude and offered to have a different stylist finish the cut. Instead she made a rude scene. I was incredibly upset and gave feedback to the woman at the front desk (who was very kind) who then had the manager come speak to me. She was very apologetic but acted surprised & incredulous that Daisy could have been rude or impatient. That said, when I messaged my mom group who had recommended Prep to me sharing my experience, another mom GUESSED which stylist it was (I hadn't named her) based off of having a very similar experience with her. Clearly this isn't an isolated experience. The same mom told me she has since had great experiences with Kate S.

Our kid is an "A student" and a very good writer, but is not one of those super genius kids who gets perfect scores on everything. We wanted our kid to have every advantage available because schools are extremely competitive nowadays, especially the UC's. First, we attended the PrepPoint SAT prep course, which is very reasonably priced and does a great job preparing your kid for the SAT. Our kid thought that it really helped. Then, when it came time for college essays, we hired Eva Holtz directly to help fine-tune the essay. At first my kid didn't like the idea and told us that we were wasting our money. However, by the time the process was finished, it was a different story. Our kid was saying that Eva was a tremendous help, and that the essays wouldn't have been anywhere near as well written without Eva's keen eye and unique perspective. Our kid got accepted into UCLA, UC Davis, and a bunch of other UC's, CSU's and out of state universities. We definitely feel that that every penny we paid for Eva's tutoring was very well spent! We emailed her to tell her the great news and thank her. We have a younger kid who will be a junior in high school next year, and we will hire Eva again without hesitation, starting with her excellent SAT preparation class. There are a lot of companies out there who do SAT prep and college prep. You will be in very good hands with Eva and any of the tutors that she employs. I think it made the difference that helped our kid get into that dream school. We couldn't be happier with the outcome!!!

Do not use Learning Care Academy…read more Shakha Gupta the part owner of Learning Care Academy, and the director running the program on site, will tell you anything you want to hear to get you to sign their Contract. Shakha Gupta, will tell you they will customize the program for your child, that they focus on homework and their packets are just 1-2 optional pages of work. She will tell you have these extra activities as well. Shakha lied about everything she told us. My son came home crying every day for the first weeks as the teachers were forcing 7 - 10 page packets on him daily or no extra activities. All this after a full day of school. No fun activities if he didn't, even though Shakha said this would not happen. We spoke to Shaka again as it was clear in the first 2 weeks that the program was not what she had said. Even the teachers seemed uniformed of anything Shaka had said. She showed me the packet, only after I pushed, and it was 7 pages for that one day. She tried to justify it as one two sided page was one page, and that they didn't really need to read a book if they did her reading, so in her mind it was 1-2 pages. She tried to tell me that they "were hearing the schools now have homework, so they will be adjusting" when I expressed concern about HW. What??? The schools always had homework. As I said, she will say anything you want to hear to get you to sign up, then when you unenroll, she takes 4 weeks plus the 2 weeks she took as a deposit, all as free money and a reward for being dishonest. Very Shady practice. The Straw that broke the camels back for us was when we picked up our son on September 12th, crying again because he and another kid were being punished for not finishing their packets. They were being excluded from dance, despite her words to me that "Non of the teachers would do that". Then planned to keep him out of other activities, all for pushing his way through a bathroom line because he had to pee. She is not kind to the kids and frankly has too many in that one small facility. We have removed our son since September 16th. She knows this as we have had countless communications. She has not stopped sending invoices and even had her bus people calling to see where Chase was 2 weeks after we unenrolled him. Made me wonder if they really know which kids they are supposed to pick up. I would not trust them to keep track of your young child for sure. Shakha Gupta misrepresented her program and is verbally abusive to the kids and parents. Do not send your child here.
