Talk about bait and switch! I went into the store to buy a keyboard. I found one with a price tag on the shelf of 142.99. A little pricey, but it's a good brand, so ok. I get up to the register and it rings up as 169.99. When I showed Management the price tag on the shelf AND confirmed the model number, I was told it was a shelf tag error and if I wanted it I needed to pay another 30 bucks! Screw that! I used to live in the area and go to school nearby. I would always stop in this location. It's a smaller Best Buy tier store. It hasn't changed in 20 years, which isn't a bad thing because I've never had a bad experience. Sometimes you can find some good computer returns (maybe the college students have buyers remorse). When we arrived at the appointment we were met by ANTHONY who clearly told us what our wait time would probably be and what needed to be done. He was spot on! Best Buy Dekalb just did me a big favor! Had to ask three different times for someone to help us as we wanted to buy a printer. Around $350. Finally got a guy to tell us it wasn't in stock but we could order it and have it delivered. Mind you we have an account and other the last three years have purchased a laptop and fridge. Not small purchases. An associate rang us up and we wrote a check. Bang it came up denied. Sorry we can't do anything about it. There's a number on the back you can call. Called India we think and was told we had written a lot of checks and we couldn't be approved. From googling Best Buy we found this has been a problem for a decade and apparently they don't care because we were told there was no one at Best Buy that can intercede. Pissed off we left. Wow! Purchased a NEW laptop here in the month of November,2017. Had a problem with the screen the following November, 2018 and it needed to be sent to repair in St. Louis and was assured it's still under warranty. (The warranty should have been good for 13 months.) St. Louis repair calls me up and says this lap top had its warranty activated in SEPTEMBER of 2017 and the warranty was expired. How could the warranty have been activated 2 months before I bought it ? ? ? I swear they sold me a product that someone had earlier purchased and activated the warranty. Went in to buy an Apple Watch, the salesperson was soooo unknowledgeable that I didn't feel confident in dropping almost $400 when she couldn't even confirm what colors it came in, and kept going back and fourth on her answers to my questions. After she stood there and literally googled my questions in front of me, I saw it more worth my time to just do the research myself. Better off going to Apple, lesson learned. Also I ordered an google home online to be picked up in store, get there and they don't have it at the front ready like the email indicated, after waiting for about 15 min for them to find it I guess?? My experience in this Best Buy location was interesting. I was in the store in search of EarPods. As I was looking for a great set I was wondering if the two sales reps (that were talking among themselves) were going to approach me. So happens they did NOT, I purposely walk past them and didn't even get a "hello sir can I help you". Until a gentleman by the name Diego approach me and was very helpful. They pressure you into Samsung phones , however these phones hold no value . I asked what would they do for the I phone . While overpriced, their selection is good. However, every time I go in with my boyfriend they swarm us and try to talk to him when I'm the one buying. When I go by myself I'd have to walk around topless to get the salespeople to notice me and help. I also own a mac and have learned that I know more about mp3 players, routers, etc and how they will work with a mac than the sales people. I just go in and don't bother with the salespeople. I have Boost because I didn't want a 2 year contract. Granted that's silly now seeing I have been with Boost at least 9 years now. I have bought several cells here for myself, and my kids. My last purchase was a Samsung Galaxy 5 for some reason or another I had to return it 3 times. I bought the accidental insurance every time. Each time I returned it, they made me buy new insurance. I didn't agree, but whatever! The final time I went in....they handled it like I was on a contract. said they were going to charge me an additional $149.00 and mail me out a refurbished POS - With pay as you go...you ALWAYS leave with a brand new cell. Mind you I JUST bought my youngest a laptop not 10 minutes earlier and the sales girl springs this new "We have the right to change our contract CRAP!" onto me. I drop the F bomb a few times at her,she gets her manager, I dropped the F bomb at her too. Told her to refund the dang laptop I just bought also. Reminded little Cindy Lou Hoo that I already paid the insurance. Over my dead body I was giving them another penny for this crappy phone. She had the balls to get in my face and try to compare it to car insurance, "They have the right to raise their rates blah blah" So I informed dumb ass at least my car insurance notifies me with any rate changes. I added you have my name, address, e-mail. WTF?!? That got her to waive the stupid 149.00 fee. Best Buy will only see me if I'm dealing with an older purchase/warranty issue. I'm done! An excessive number of floor reps are crawling all over the place but they are sadly understaffed at the checkout. I waited 8 minutes to purchase a few CDs. While I was not at all impressed with DeKalb's Best Buy in general, I WAS impressed with the Geek Squad tech who came out to my apartment to set up the computer. He did a great job. Polite, professional, totally seemed to know what he was doing. His first name was Tyler. So my unhappy review of the store really should not reflect on Tyler. My husband and I went to best buy last month to see if we were eligible for an upgrade on our Verizon plan. They helped us find out we were eligible, got us on the edge plan (which means after 2 years we own our phones and get to keep them). We also got gift cards for our current phones, and more gift cards for signing up. We walked out with brand new upgraded phones, didn't pay a penny out of pocket, AND we have gift cards to spend. We got all the best accessories too! Be on the lookout for when they offer this deal. It's awesome! And the worker was so patient, even when our phones needed updating before switching. I bought a tv on 12/16 beautiful 65" vizio brought it home over an hour away hooked it up started watching and next thing you know I saw lines appearing and they started in the middle and went down so we packed it up and took it back on 1/12 still within warranty to the store. I walked in with my family and the guy up front was nice and so was the other two who helped us then this woman who must be the manager that night we will call her whiskey male voice was very rude and told us there was a palm print on the top and they could not take it back even though it was already defective the only thing she offered was to take in for $85 and fix it which then she said it might cost us up to $1200 to fix it the tv was not even worth that much. I wish I could give zero stars but I can not so if you dare go back in there and you see her give her a big one finger salute from the guy who bought a 65" Vizio. Disappointing service at best. My desktop computer had a virus. I dropped it off and they removed the "worm" program on my hard drive. It cost $199 for this. It has been a week and the "worm" is back. I can't take the computer in again and to have them come out I have to pay again. I got this computer there. It has been nothing but problems since I got it. Slow as molasses even after the "worm" is gone. They "helped" me pick it out. Don't waste your time and money on this place. I think that the Best Buy in Dekalb is the one stop shop for your electronic fix. Now, lets face it, Dekalb is in the middle of a corn field so in store variety might not be as good as say the Best Buy in St. Charles. Never the less it is the ONLY store of its kind in the area, I have noticed over the years that Best Buy has gotten a lot more competitive with their prices and store policies. The staff (which consists of mostly college students) is ever changing and with that said I think they are all really laid back and willing to help. The areas population is steadily climbing and with more stores making their way into the Dekalb area I see Best Buy getting more and more in store upgrades (hopefully an Apple kiosk!) as well as additional services. read more

Love Best Buy, just want to make that clear. However, this location often doesn't have items in the sales flyer on the Sunday the flyer starts. The reason behind this according to the employees is "we're a small store so we don't get many of the items in the sales flyer." That's ridiculous. I can understand having a few of each item in the sales flyer due to size of store but I can't understand not having any of several items. My advice is to go to the South Elgin or Batavia stores if you can. They always have at least 1 of every item in the Best Buy flyer. read more

I purchased a projector I needed in a pinch, asked the sales guy about the return policy and any restocking fee, I was told return policy was 30 days for the projector. Well on day 18 I tried to return the projector and was told I was past the 14 day return policy. No one, Mike Sak "manager" ,doesn't care that the employees that HE MANAGES is telling customers incorrect information and don't know what they are talking about. Way to manage Mike Sak! BB obviously doesn't care about me as a good customer either. It didn't mean a thing that i have purchased 2 macs, who knows how many camcorders and cameras, ink, paper etc. They will never see another penny from me under any circumstances. A company that has ignorant employees and an ah 20 year old big shot manager isn't a place I will ever do business with again. I would be out of business if i conducted business this way. I just wish I didn't give them so much money over the past years. and yes, on the back of the recpt it did say 14 days for projectors, why wouldn't the word of an employee be good enough. Why would I think to even question the employee, the answer is simple, they are idiots making the minimum wage and the manager just doesn't care. The customer support number I was told to call told me I should have gone on line to see the return policy. Again, why would I do this after being told by the guy who sold it to me that the return policy was 30 days? Again, cuz they are IDIOTS! Do not get service from Geek Squad. Told a friend of mine that their computer needed a new motherboard that was going to cost $600. More than the computer costed new. I was able to fix the issue (which wasn't even a motherboard) for $75 (needed a new hard drive and fresh Windows install). Not all of their techs are A+ certified, so beware. It's a money-making business for them, to sell extra stuff people probably don't need. Plus, I do not believe they are certified to perform warranty repairs, so you may be voiding your warranty by taking your items here to be serviced. Go with a certified repair facility, they will ensure that your warranty is maintained and not voided. read more

I just went there to buy a tablet and the box looked old but he assured me that it was new. It took him almost TWO hours to "let it charge" so he could activate it! I like Best Buy for picking up a quick DVD or electronic device. However, I always dread going there when I need help or have a problem. My most recent visit to this Best Buy store was for the repair of a TV that the manufacturer, Insignia (Best Buy's own brand), promised would be fixed under warranty. When I arrived, the clerk said they don't do the type of warranty repair I needed without authorization from Insignia (which Insignia, in turn, said they don't even deal with). After some back and forth with Best Buy, Insignia, and Geek Squad, he then eagerly tried to sell me a new TV. I'm not a big fan of businesses that try to quote any "policy" they can to not help you instead of standing behind their products and strengthening customer relationships. Perhaps if they cut some payroll from the 5+ employees that were standing in the corner giggling and goofing off the entire time I was there, they wouldn't need to worry as much about protecting their margin through servicing customers. read more

I took it back and they told me my only option was to send it out for repair and my cost. They would not let me return/exchange with the reasoning that I must have broken it. This Best Buy sucks. I got a remote car start for Christmas from here. Had an appointment set to get it installed, got called about 3 hours before the appointment (after having to play musical cars and find someone else to take my car to the appointment as I am a grad student and have ZERO free time) and the appointment was cancelled due to the installer being sick. Next appointment offered was either an inconvienent time for me or a month and a half out. Took the inconvienent one and somehow made it work, again playing musical cars. Then I lost my remote..my fault, yes. They agreed to reprogram the new one for free....awesome right?!?! No. I have been trying for over a month to get in touch with the installer to get it reporgramed. Everytime I call or go into the store it is his day off and no one else in the store knows his schedule. To reporgram the remote would probably take 15 minutes and I cannot get the service to get that done. It is ridiculous and they have definately lost mine and my families business over this. There is not reason it should be this difficult to get things done. The customer service at this store is just horrendous. read more
