Wow! The answer to my prayers. This actually worked to lift the chronic knots / pain out of my back. I wanted to wait until at least the next morning to write this review although I was so excited to do so! Firstly, I felt right at home when I arrived. She asked me questions & wanted to get to know my health state & also get to know me in general. It felt personal. She used acupuncture ( the skinny needles ) first. It felt warm & like the pain was lifting out of my body slowly & gently. Then later, she took them out & used the suction cups ( cupping) . I was afraid about the bruising I've seen my son had marks for a week. Let me tell you if your worried about that , it's minor compared to was it does for your pain. It was sucking out the build up of knots and stress out of my back! I've been getting massages for 8 months each week. All my money has been to try and relive this annoying pain. In my neck shoulders and back. So desperate to get rid of this pain. Nothing has worked until now! It's only been overnight. Dr. Ma and Bay Acupuncture are listed as a provider for my health care system but she refused to accept my copay ($25) and asked for $80 up front saying she'd pay me back if my health insurance ended up paying her. (Her rejection of my copay was also after I told her my pain was high on a scale of 1-10, and just before the weekend). So while I can't comment on her acupuncture skills I can say I'm very disappointed with the bait-and-switch and I would like an acupuncturist who has both medical skills and ethics. read more

I had a really bad bout of sciatica during December of 2019. I was laying on the ground out of fear of moving because the pain was so intense. It got so bad that I called Dr. Lily in desperation the day after Christmas. She had me come in and I went through a two hour session that evening. The next morning I woke up and was able to actually walk around and felt better overall. I was able to sleep in my own bed again and actually stay asleep during the night. I then scheduled a second appointment less than a week later, and then a third appointment a little over one week after the first session. I've felt tremendously better since then. Those the sessions have me able to do things without the sciatic pain anymore. I'm able to walk around, go to work, lift weights and exercise. Basically I've been able to live my life again. Had major back pain and Dr. Lily helped out a lot. After 1 weekend sessions, most of my back pain went away. Every time I had back pain, would come by and had another acupuncture session. I drive a lot and spend the rest of my time sitting in front of a computer at a desk, hence back pain. Was so impressed that when my pregnant wife had middle back pain, I told her about Dr. Lily and how much it helped me. Dr. Lily is great at what she does. I've visited her for acupuncture and acupressure several times over the years and she always helps relieve my back, joint, muscle, and disc issues. Dr. LILY is really good. I didn't want to write a review until I had experienced acupuncture more than once. I've been going to Dr. Lily for a little while now and I have to say my experience has been a positive and wonderful experience. Dr. Lily genuinely cares about her patients. There is a language barrier, on my part. Dr. Lily does understand what I want and even what I don't know I want. She has been doing this for a long time and her service is well worth it. She's gentle, nice, and accommodating. I've lost 17lbs since I started working with her and that's just over a month and with me not doing any exercise, but most importantly I am able to sleep at night, I have more energy during the day and I don't feel sluggish. I've had shoulder pain for more than 2 decades. On very rare occasions, the chronic pain has soared to acute intensity, spreading to the neck. This occurred once in June 1998 and again in January 2019. The Warriors' physical therapist treated the earlier bout, but he has since retired. Having had good results with acupuncture for a joint problem and ear congestion in the past, I recently consulted Dr. Ma. She treated my acute flare-up with acupuncture, electrical stimulation, and acupressure. The first treatment cured the most pressing problem: acute neck pain on the left side. The second treatment, a few days later, relieved the neck and shoulder pain on the right side . . . substantially, altho' not completely. I look forward to the upcoming third treatment this week. I anticipate a full recovery, with periodic follow-up sessions every 3 or 4 months. I recommend Dr. Ma for her conscientiousness . . . and the vigorous massages that complement the acupuncture and electrical stimulation. read more

Dr. Lily is amazing. I started to go to her 5 years ago, and every time she helps with any pain. My latest experience with Dr. Lily was during my pregnancy and after. That was super help while I was moving slow, or my muscles were painful. She always know how to help and how to relieve the pain. Can't say to her healing skills but can speak to the poor experience. Scheduled a time to see beforehand, and provided insurance coverage information. Co pay was discussed on the phone beforehand. Fast forward to appointment, suddenly she talks about how she was billing my type of insurance plans before from 2019 and only a few got paid..? Then was asking for the entire payment of 90 upfront and will refund me if insurance pays out? If you wanted that couldn't you have said over the phone instead of wasting everyone's time? If I can put review without a I will do it but I cant...Icalled to get appointment for my pain and she said she can take me in same day. I went in, filled out the paperwork and I even called my insurance to get the benefits while she listen as I confirm everything. She continued to talk about how difficult to get payment from insurance and she asked that I pay her upfront. I said no because I have benefits and all I have to pay is the co pay of $25.00. She keeps on complaining about 3 months processing before she gets paid. I asked her for the last time if she can treat me and she said she can if I will pay upfront and get refund from my insurance. I refused and walked away. Its hard if treating provider is not about the well being of the patient but goes after the money. why are they listed as in-network provider if they can't provide services to the Blue Shield members? read more

Very disappointed. Arrived for a consultation to a locked door. After knocking twice, Dr. Lily Ma let me in and took me to a very stuffy room with the heater blasting - in the summer! She then had me take a seat and I began explaining my problems. My problems are primarily depression and fatigue, both of which began with a reproductive disorder earlier this year. As I tried to elaborate on the reproductive disorder I'd had, I found myself having to explain - to her, the DOCTOR - what different parts of the female anatomy were! She didn't know what a uterus, a hymen, or a tampon were - among other things. I expressed that I wanted to leave, and she told me that, even though I hadn't received any treatment, this consultation would cost me $60. She had NOT mentioned this on the phone when I had called about booking a consultation, and her website had not warned me of this cost, either. Dr. Li Ma then spent the next 20 minutes making sure I got my money's worth of a consultation by going on about how I must have suffered some sort of infection or complication from a recent gynecological surgery (I hadn't), and the importance of eating more black-colored foods to help my kidneys. There was more to the speech, but she didn't know enough anatomy terms to expound further on what she was trying to tell me. After 20 minutes of THAT, I finally gave in and paid her, then grabbed my patient sheet and got the hell out of there. Worst. Consultation. Ever. read more

She goes beyond the call of duty, giving advice regarding what foods to eat to help you heal as well. She doesn't try to make more money off you; she just really cares. Dr. Lily, as we call her, treated me for the first time several years ago for elbow joint pain, which had grown to the point of making me lose my grip over the previous couple of months. After one treatment it was fixed, and the problem never came back. While there, she noticed some tension in my back. I told her it was from a car accident that I had had several years earlier. Chiropracters had told me that I'd have to see them once a month for the rest of my life to keep the pain under control. I couldn't afford that, so I only went about twice a year. After she treated me once, the pain never came back. Sounds too good to be true, but I know other people who have had the same experience with her. Dr. Ma reports she has 25 years of experience as an acupuncturist---5 years in Castro Valley and 20 years in China in a reputable medical center. She says she is a licensed physician and surgeon in China. She was personable and attentive, but her technique was rough. She drove the needles deep into muscles and my entire body was in spasm for most of the session. I've had only one prior acupuncture treatment, a few years ago, and it was pleasant. My experience with this practioner was painful. Needle insertion stung, the symptoms I sought treatment for intensified during and after therapy, and a few hours after I completed treatment, my body was covered with bruises at the needle insertion sites. Although she took me on short notice and gave me plenty of individualized attention, I wouldn't want to go through another treatment like my initial one. She also performed acupressure massage, but I had to ask her to stop because it felt more like severe pinching than massage. I left feeling much worse than when I went in and had to take pain medication for the discomfort when I got home. I won't recommend her to my friends. read more
