My last haircut experience was not good. Shot outs to the owner and other quiet good employees that work there. I went to get a basic round off haircut with a mild fade on the bottom in back of head. For me I'm gonna give my own scenario of a haircut. Haircutting is just like cutting grass or sweeping the remains in a dust pan. I say sweeping because finishing up, you have to keep trying to get them particles off dirt in the dust pan. You're not gonna get everything the first time not the second either. It takes at least 5-6 tries before satisfied. Cutting hair is like that for example. Some lawns have deeper spots / ditches than a flat surface. Some spots have thinner spots than some, along with some thicker spots. So in trimming to get a satisfactory cut. You have to go over the spots more than one time in trimming. Not a no it all Barber telling you it's nothing coming off your hair. When you get home your cut is wrong and you're not going back to the barber for them to grandstand on you telling you it's nothing there. When you've had them go over it. Hair steady falling onto the apron while they in your face trying to tell you. You don't know what you know. A barbershop to me suppose to have different vibes than a beauty parlor. Beauty parlor have always made me feel some kind of way with all the different kinds of women coming in and out. Trying to be all they can be. In making an image that the stylist are the truth. In all in all. A lot of people go with the hype, I was one to be influenced on the hype. In real life experience now. I know you can't do that! Everybody that says they can cook cannot.. Today I have enough since to stand firm on what I know I, know. I don't care how smart you act! Plus if you were all that you would have your own business and license to operate. I was real vexed with my last haircut from , ( DARNELL ) I choose to go to. Along with bringing my daughter for a haircut which we paid $80 for 2 basic ass haircuts charging $40 each. Although it wasn't even an hour a piece for the cuts he rushed us & receiving. Plus we waited for him like 20 minutes while he was out of the shop. I gave Darnell great reviews before. Unfortunately thus what happens people get real cute in showing off. Plus acting entitled, like their irreplaceable. Like I said beauty parlor vibes, loud, showing off wanting to be the center of attention or attraction. $80 for an hour & a half job! For a basic cutting Barber putting in / on no designs just a basic cut. It's time for me to move on all the barber's I've gone to, in the past have valued my opinion & did what I asked them to do. Like I said we all have different sides. It's been a couple times I've went to Darnell and I felt a not good spirit about him. I give a person get a few chances before I make my final decision in discontinuing messing with them. He lucky because other's don't give all them chances. One strike you're out. I don't have to show off for the uptown boys. I'm truly an uptown chick. Ledroit Park 5th & U at. NW 30 years ( Howard University). True uptowners don't have to be loud and try to impress. We use to getting monies! Unfortunately I'm on the Southside now. I come all way uptown to feel treated like disrespected along with overcharging me. NEVER LET JOHN STATEN (HU Barber) cut your hair. I bet other barbers at this place is excellent. John cut my hair carelessly. Didn't even line up my beard correctly and charged me $45. The relationship with my barber at Best Cuts is the longest running relationship I have ever had with any man - 12 years. Federico Lindo owns the shop. He only takes appointments. Other barbers take walk-ins. Rico's chair is the first one as you walk in. That's important because he keeps a close eye on what's going on and is in total control of the space. Most of the clientele is Howard students and working professionals who live nearby. There's a woman in the back who does locs exclusively. She's amazingly talented. Rico is licensed and understands that cutting women's hair is not the same as cutting dudes. And it's not just about the hair line. My hair is thinning but Rico has trained it to be fuller by cutting it in its natural wave pattern. Previously I was brushing it against the grain which made it appear thinner. He educated me and now I regularly receive compliments on my cut. I'll never leave Rico. I drive 40 minutes into the city to get my hair cut and would gladly drive longer. He's professional (rarely runs late) and lets me practice my Spanish on him (he's from Panama). When he's going on vacation, I always try to get in so I won't have to suffer while he's away. This barber shop is hit or miss. I used to go, for a nice shave, but stopped after a series of events I describe below. Walking in from alley behind the shop, I saw & smelled all of the barbers smoking weed out back. Please don't smoke weed the. Yield razors and scissors on someone's head. When I walked in and said that I wanted someone who wasn't high, they said they all were and it was cool. But it's not cool for me. You can smoke all you want, don't cut hair after. Dangerous and rude. Next, upon my previous visits I have heard the barbers pretty obviously making racist comments to white guys. I'm black, but I have friends of all kinds. And was disturbed by this. Along the same lines, the barbers were talking about a "white faggot" the last time I walked in. I waited about ten minutes, and then heard them again talk about that, when I turned around and saw a white guy walk by, holding hands with a Latino-looking guy. What's the need for the hate and rude language? Lastly, when I told them not to be so rude, and so obviously in front of customers, the short fat one (he drives around in a Benz) told me to never come back, because they can hate who they want, and I should be a "true n-gga" and learn from then. I will never go back and am reporting their smoking, and poor business to the BBB. Disgusting. Don't go, save your money & respect. read more

My search for a new barber shop has finally ended after moving from Maryland. Best Cuts Barber Shop is defiantly the place to go. If you're looking for a good fade, straight shape up, and good cut, i highly recommend Best Cuts Barber Shop. The place was booming with business at 11am on a weekday. The older barber on the left hand side of the shop in the middle chair cut all my edges off...the lady who twisted my hair seemed nice until my hairstyle fell down after two days and I reached out to come in...she responded saying I could come in but then disappeared...it's been over a week and she hasn't answered my calls or responded to my text messages. To their credit I watched other barbers cut and they were really cool and did a nice job...I don't know how I ended up with the two worst people in the shop. read more

Nice cut for an even better price. Cornell hooked me up. I was looking for a new barber since I just moved to Washington, D.C. Search concluded. My cut was $22+tip. It included a fade, facial trim/shave (not straight edge, but a nice option at no additional cost), and razor finish to your line.
