I purchased a used hybrid vehicle from a dealer who had to replace the hybrid battery pack when it failed while the vehicle was on his lot. It was rebuilt by another hybrid battery repair facility who warranted it for two years. The battery pack failed within a month of my purchase and I contacted the rebuilder to have it repaired under the warrantee. After contacting them, I paid to ship the battery to their facility and then the excuses started coming. I tried to work with them but after having the battery in their shop from December to April I started looking for other options. I contacted Best Hybrid Batteries and was impressed with their representative Mike and his knowledge of the industry. I asked the other shop to ship the battery to Mike and Best Hybrid Batteries. Even though the distance to ship the battery to Mike was less than 1/3 of the distance it would have been to return it to me, they still kept making excuses as to why couldn't do it. It took them 3 weeks to get the battery shipped. Once It got to Mike it was rebuilt and shipped within a week. I have waited a year to write this review because I wanted to be sure that everything worked as well as Mike said it would. I have not been disappointed. I had a Ford escape hybrid that needed a new hybrid battery. The dealership wanted three times the value of the car to replace it. I got a great deal from best hybrid batteries on the battery. They shipped the battery to an installer, who we paid separately. That worked fine. Even though they're across the country from us, I went with best hybrid batteries because of their three year warranty. Unfortunately, the first battery they sent failed. This was about nine months later; however, they honored the warranty without issues. They sent several new batteries to our installer until we found one that didn't generate any failure codes. That took some time, but we now have a fully working hybrid again. The total cost ended up being a third of what the dealer asked. So, while I wish they had been able to test and send a fully working battery the first time, best hybrid batteries definitely stuck by their 3 year warranty until we got that car working again. read more

So my take is this: hybrids and their functionality have transitioned from a nascent 'first mover' kind of deal to a practical and smart decision in any market. Michael first got going I'm not sure how long ago but our experience with him went something like this: Prius 2006 or thereabouts got the red triangle indicating hybrid battery failure. Note the Toyota dealer still has crazy expensive options for this consisting of a factory battery. The scare factor keeping many people away from the Prius and hybrids in general WAS more prevalent in the past and it was present in myself and family as well. The 'what do we do' factor was present. A 4K cost wasn't really feasible. Car more or less would have been totaled for that. Michael met me halfway between Chicago and wheee I live in Des Moines IA. He installed the new battery in a parking lot and it was very efficient and he is professional and pleasant to deal with. No issues to speak of for the next year or so. Car got in accident and then another totaled it out. Battery worked well. Oddly enough we have owned 4 Priuses in the last 4 years. One might incorrectly assume that is because of reliability issues. On the contrary we have been extremely happy with the car's reliability and function. We have been buying and driving 200-250k+ miles Priuses now and using them to do ludicrous things they weren't designed for doing ---- real estate projects. As an example I have hauled over 1000lbs of material multiple times with these cars. Not recommended by the way. The Priuses have been part of our journey and if nothing else a symbol of the practicality and ruggedness of the solid design. The ability for Michael to do what he is doing and other vendors like it is a critical part of the whole picture and a nice option especially for what would otherwise be end of life cars. That is not to say that it's not a great option for say a 2008 132k miles prius as well----. But you get the idea. Aftermarket here is awesome and I think Toyota understands this. I do see some negative reviews here for the Civic Hybrid work. It seems as though Michael has switched gears with his approach on these. Oddly enough right now my wife's daily driver is a civic hybrid where the IMA is out. We bought it used that way. It's a manual transmission and we have opted to simply drive the car without he battery/hybrid function. I'm not sure that all allow for this but ours does. One might consider this as an option if it exists for your vehicle. read more

In late spring, I took my 2012 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid to Best Hybrid Batteries to have the battery "reconditioned". I wasn't getting any warning messages, but the mileage was off and so was the cars performance. Mike cycled the batteries and replaced 3 weak battery modules. When I picked up the car I was pleased. The cars performance was noticeably improved and the mileage started climbing back up. However, the EV range was still well below what it had been, and I began to notice an odd odor in the car. I can only describe it as a hot chemical smell. About a week after picking up the car, I was in heavy traffic that required aggressive driving. The odor in the car was becoming very strong and after some hard acceleration, a yellow wrench appeared on the driver's console and all electric assist ceased. All motion was accomplished through the gas engine only. This is referred to as the "limp" mode. The car got me home. I let the car sit for a while and then re-started it. No wrench symbol appeared, and the car drove normally. I contacted Mike at Best Hybrid Batteries and explained what had happened. He indicated that without an error code from the computer he had no idea what was going on. I live 1 1/2 hours from Mike's shop, so I used my regular mechanic to obtain the error codes. The actual codes were P0A9E, P0AC8, P0CCD, P0AEB, and P0BC5. The first four codes indicate 4 of the 5 temperature sensors on the HV battery were returning confirmed high readings. The 5th code is the same error for the 5th sensor, but the error is "pending" rather than confirmed. I contacted mike with the results. After a long silence on his end, I finally said "Do you think this should be looked into?". He finally told me to bring the car in, which I did. After a week, I called Mike to get the status of the car. He told me there was a loose harness connection, but it was fixed, and I could pick up the car, there would be no more error codes. I picked up the car and started home. Within a few minutes the hot chemical smell begins to fill the car. In less than 10 miles from the shop, the yellow wrench popped up on the console and the car dropped into the limp mode. I considered taking it right back to Mike, but realized it wouldn't help, so I drove home. I spent the next couple of weeks going through the internet, reading articles, watching YouTubes and diving into forums. I decided to pull the battery myself and see what was wrong. I removed the rear seat cushion and found a large bolt rolling around under the seat along with an insulator of some sort. Then using the shop manual procedure for removing the battery, I removed the main disconnect plug and other various harness plugs. Then I went to remove the 8 bolts that hold the battery in the car. The four bolts on the trunk side were simply missing. Of the four bolts inside the passenger compartment, one was the bolt I found under the rear seat, another was cross threaded and only partially in its retaining nut, and the last two were actually holding the battery in place. Bear in mind that the battery weighs ±150 Lbs. and slides into the passenger compartment for removal. Now consider that of the 8 bolts used to hold the battery in place during say a bad front-end collision, only two were actually installed. With the help of my brother (a retired electrical engineer in the aerospace industry) we removed the battery to my shop and began to disassemble it. As soon as we opened the insulator caps on the top of the battery, it was obvious there was a big problem. Two of the insulator caps were melted and burned and one of the screws that attach the battery bus bars was discolored suggesting it had been heating. When disassembled, it became obvious what the problem was. One of the burned bus bar screws had not been tightened completely. The other burned screw had been cross threaded and not driven all the way in, creating another loose connection, and the discolored screw had been stripped and could not tighten completely. I did get my car running great again, but I had to buy a replacement battery module, top wire harness, and bus bar screws on eBay to repair the battery. Ford does not sell parts for the HV battery pack. They consider the whole battery pack to be one, $5,800 part. Best Hybrid Batteries had a chance to fix their mistake and failed. Their improper reassembly created a dangerous condition in my car, and left uncorrected, the battery connection problem would have damaged the battery. Use these guys at your own peril! read more

MY 2002 Prius is in excellent condition. When i saw the warning lights indicating it was the battery, I was determined to get it fixed at 170,000 miles. I called and spoke to Mike the owner of BHB and was so shocked with how reasonable a replacement with a 3 yr warranty would cost. My car decided to die on me in the middle of backwoods Maryland. By the grace of God I was able to get my hybrid, purchased in the last years of the Bush administration, to the closest Ford dealer. They kept it overnight and when I was able to trek back to them, they said they needed to replace the battery. For $12,000. I got motor oil in my mouth when my jaw hit the floor. Very disappointed in this company. Purchased battery for my son's 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid in November 2015 paid 1700.00 in total. My son has had nothing but issues over the past 1.5 years. I believe the owner of Best Hybrid has put in 3 new batteries and once again on his way home from college his IMA light went again for the 6-7th time since the original batter was replaced. I understand that nothing lasts forever but when my son called yesterday to once again report his lights were on, the owner told my son that he will replace the battery yet again to the cost of 1100.00, that is with a 25% discount. If I wanted to spend close to 3K on a batter I would have gone directly to Honda who wanted 3K for a brand new battery. I don't feel we should have to pay for another battery considering all of the ones he has installed Didn't WORK!! read more

The price was good for a rebuilt hybrid battery for my 2004 Honda Civic hybrid. Unfortunately, I'm on my 3rd battery in 3 months. My original purchase was in early Dec 2015. They keep replacing the battery (which they should), but the warranty doesn't lengthen any from the first battery purchase date. Also, every time the IMA light came on, I was the one running around town looking for parts stores who could read the IMA codes. Went to 3 stores, and when they came to replace the battery they couldn't pull the same codes. I was hoping after all the hassle they would at least give me a brand new 8.5 amp battery or some sort of compensation for all the headache but never happened. In the end, I don't feel like I was taken care of very well so that is why I am giving 2 stars. read more
