I went in for a gel soak off and a fresh polish. The technician who did my nails used a dremel tool bit that was too coarse and destroyed my nail bed. I could tell when I went to get up to wash my hands that something was wrong bc my nail beds were tingling and feeling raw. When I looked at them closer, I could see they were red and damaged. I showed the nail tech and the manager what happened. They encouraged me to finish my service and get gel applied over the top of my now damaged nail beds. No thanks. I wasn't going to let them continue to work on my hands. They charged me $23 for the gel removal. I just wanted to get out of there and paid and left. They are supposed to be professionals at their job, and know how to use their tools to avoid damage to clients nails. My nails beds continued hurting for over a week! It was terrible! Their prices are reasonable but the ventilation in there is poor. The smell was really strong and unpleasant. For a regular non gel manicure, they only charge $15. For reference, I used to pay $12 for a regular non gel manicure in LA during the '90s. I paid $20 for a regular non gel French manicure. Translation was lost, but thankfully, the nail technician sitting next to mine was able to translate for me. Their drying station had a busted flickering light, which was annoying. read more

I had a pedicure emergency and needed a nail salon that was close to me ASAP. Best nails came up on a Google search. I showed up and luckily (?) they weren't busy at all. They gave a prayer on the door about the beverages they offer... I could have used some water since I'd literally just driven in from Dallas... didn't get offered anything - which wouldn't have been worth mentioning had they not had a sign up about beverages. The place was clean enough, and the folks were pleasant enough. OK... here's where my experience went from just ok to "I wish I'd gone somewhere else." You know when you say something to someone in one language and then they immediately start saying someone to someone else who was neither involved in nor even listening to the conversation in a different language? This isn't my first nail salon and I've traveled to several countries and myself speak multiple languages. You can tell when someone is talking smack about you or something you said - tone, body language, lack of eye contact thereafter... yep! It happened. What I'd asked her? Please clean the sides of my toenails... she wasn't planning to, and she got a lot of stuff out of there! So I'm paying for this pedi and u wanna half-butt it!? Nah! Ok so there was that... then I had to ask her to get my nail shape right - y'all, it was literally tilted like the roof of a house - only one of my 10 nails! Oh, and she'd only cut/ trimmed 9/10 which I noticed after the first coat of polish had gone on! (I was tired y'all). I'm sitting there and had been contemplating getting my brows waxed and stuff... quickly decided I'd hold off, because if a pedi is too much, I don't wanna come out without brows. So anyway at this point, I'm just like let me get this polish and dip... y'all, how do you mess up a BASIC polish? No designs, not even glitter in the polish! How does it come out looking like a kid did it?! They didn't cover the color all the way with the clear, so it looks like a weird layered mess. Look I was so turned off by the whole experience. Decided to try this place out on a Friday morning as soon as they opened, before I left town for the weekend.... due to the good reviews I thought I'd be fine. I came in and requested a removal of my sns nails, and a gel manicure. Seemed simple enough. I will say, the staff was friendly when I came in. However, throughout the process, it wasn't great. She drilled pretty hard, and left my skin raw. Then, when I asked her to trim my nails, she cut them very short. The SNS I had taken off was red, and that was left all over my hands, as well as not taken off fully before the gel was applied. The gel was rushed, and the bottle looked to be old, as the polish was gooey and stringy. When I asked about the "wrinkling" the gel did under the lamp, she assured me it was normal, and continued on painting over it until they were about 4 layers thick. About this time, I start to realize there are no licenses on display anywhere. She asks me to go wash my hands, and there is a blue goo all over the sink area. Just not very clean in general. The tools she used were not in a sanitary pouch either.... She dusted a clear coat, cured the polish again and sent me on my way, a little over an hour later. When I got back to my office (since I had used my lunch hour to sit there), I sent them a message requesting a refund for the poor service. They all but told me it was my problem for not saying something while I was there, and that I should come to the shop to let them fix it. Sorry, but I'm not going back somewhere to let them fix a problem they created in the first place. Terrible work, and poor customer service. Would NOT recommend. read more

I went to have my nails done at Best Nails Salon on Mesa Drive in Austin Texas today and found myself, as a 30-year-old black American woman, adopted as a child from Ethiopia, being made fun of by the salon manager who alluded to my being a monkey, eating bananas and wanting my nails painted yellow. I never asked for yellow polish. The other employees of the Best Nail Salon, who are all Asian and speak a foreign language, proceeded to laugh at the man's comments which he made in their language and then said "banana" while looking directly at me. All of the foreign-born employees looked at me and laughed. I didn't need to understand the language to know they were talking and laughing about me. I was so hurt and angry I could scream. I held myself together and tried very hard not to cry. By this time they knew I understood what they had said. They all looked at each other as the woman tried to get me to sit and allow my nails to dry but by that time I was too upset. All I wanted to do was to pay and get out of there. After I left I called a friend who assured me that I had the right to be upset and angry and that I needed to ask for a refund. I returned to the salon to talk to the manager and tell him that I did not appreciate his racist comments. That they were hurtful. He said it was a joke and that he is Asian. I'm not sure what difference it makes that he is Asian. They refused to give me a refund unless I took off the nail polish. I didn't want them touching me again, so I left. I have been going with my boyfriend to this nail salon for 2+ years, they have typically been what you expect from a nail salon. They complete the services as expected as well as do the basic niceties. The place is less than a mile from our condo so it is unfortunate I have to share this with everyone. I just want to say as a side note if Van is ever available to assist, ask for her, she is AMAZING. I recently visited the location asked for the standard wax, chin, eyebrows, and upper lip. They ended up burning my face with the wax. At first it was a little red and irritated, then the burn came to surface and covered both the left and right side of my chin. I went back in to ask if they had anything to fix the situation and their initial response was to deny they were the ones who caused the burn. I was visiting my boyfriends parents and had to go with a wax burn all over my chin. The fact of the matter is I get waxed to look nice and they took that away from me. As a long time customer I went back expecting at least an apology or some sort of accountability of sorts and there was absolutely none whatsoever. Extremely disappointed and I will never return to the place and it makes me so sad to say that. The burn caused scabbing and I will visit a dermatologist in hopes it will not scar, as big as the burn is, hopefully I will not be scarred for life. read more

On a friend's recommendation, I stopped in at Best Nails after work on a Tuesday as a walk-in for a pedicure. I'd never been there before, and I was immediately encouraged by the fact that the place was hopping. There were five technicians working, and there were always a couple of people waiting in line the whole time I was there. Clearly, they do a good business, and with so much competition around, they must be doing something right, right? Anyway, I rarely get pedicures or manicures, so I'm probably not the best person to judge any particular nail salon relative to others in the area, but what I can say is that this place was quite decent, and the staff brisk and efficient. There is nothing fancy or upscale here - just good solid service. I did appreciate having a nice massage chair during the pedicure, and I also liked the vigorous but brief leg/foot massage that came with, but overall, there really isn't anything that stands out about the whole experience. Just a job well done with no fuss and no muss. The pedicure was $25 plus tip - pretty much the going rate for standard nail salons, I believe. Overall, I wouldn't drive miles and miles to go to Best Nails, because you'll probably pass a half-dozen similar places to get there, but if you live or work close by the Spicewood Springs/Mesa intersection and need some nail work, this place will do you right. read more

I'm pretty loyal to Best Nails, especially since they moved into the new space right next door to their old space. I used to come here because it was conveniently 2 minutes away from my apartment, and I still come here, even though I've since moved 25 minutes away. As mentioned in my previous review, the deluxe pedicures at Best Nails are the best! But today I thought I would get my eyebrows waxed - my first time ever! I was guided toward the back of the salon and into a small room, which had a spa-like feel. There was tranquil music playing and the room smelled nice. I laid down on something that seemed like a massage bed with a mat on top of it, and it heated up! I was so comfortable, I felt like I could take a nap. Supposedly they now have facials, and I would gladly have one of those just so I could take advantage of that comfortable room. I told my esthetician that I was very nervous and it was my first time, and it didn't phase her at all. She put a few lotions/creams on my eyebrows, and although I'm not sure what they were, they smelled lovely - like baby powder. The warm wax was the perfect temperature and felt quite soothing when she put it on (a relief, since I've heard horror stories about people coming out of other salons with burnt eyebrows or red spots.) And the best of all, totally painless! Compared to the plucking I did on myself at home, this wax was nothing. It was over in just a few minutes. No red marks, and they were shaped very naturally, which I appreciate because I didn't want a fake, bare look. I also liked that the esthetician made some friendly conversation with me during the waxing. I love the big massage chair pedicure stations. I usually get my eyebrows waxed here and have always been extremely happy with the results. Also, they just recently moved into the space next door to their old location and the bigger space makes a big difference! I made the mistake one Saturday morning of going to another salon down the street just to try them out and was instantly disappointed with my decision. Great nails, horrible, horrible eyebrow waxings!!!!! I wish I could do two separate reviews for this place. Here's why: I used to go to Color Nails on Far West for a full set and to get my eye-brows waxed. One day they had a long wait to get a set, and being impatient I wandered up the street and found Best Nails. Their nails came out AMAZING!! Not too thick, no lumps, super shiny, I was in love. I still went to Color Nails for my eyebrows though because everyone there is always really nice (they're always rather rude at Best Nails) and the girl who does my eyebrows there does an awesome job. Not too long ago, Color Nails had another super long wait, so once again, I went to Best Nails, this time for an eyebrow wax. That was a terrible mistake on my part. Not only were they rude (as usual) but they did a horrible job. I asked the girl to make them skinny. She said no, because they'd look bad. Never had a problem with that at Color Nails, the girl there always agreed and they always came out looking fantastic. Not here. There was no music for me, like I had heard about before. The girl there did not heat up the table. While she was applying the wax I could feel that she wasn't getting entirely under the eyebrow. I thought about saying something, but I kept in mind that I hate it when people come into my work and tell me how to do my job. I honestly thought "She knows what she's doing..." I jumped around nail salons until I found Color Nails, and one thing that I noticed is that almost everywhere I go to get my eyebrows waxed, they'll trim them (I'm a little on the Brook Shields side) and use moisturizer before and after. Now I know why. At Best Nails the girl (very homely with glasses) used something that smelled alcohol based, and it hurt pretty bad every time she would pull the cloth off my skin, and I have a rather high pain tolerance too. There was also no trimming of my eyebrows. When she was done she said "Here," and pointed a mirror in my general direction to reveal incredibly crooked and uneven eyebrows. I thought about asking her to take another go at it, since she missed the mark completely, but then realized that I didn't want her anywhere near my face, and should probably leave while I still had both of my eyelids. The plus side was that it was only $10 before the tip ( I still tipped her, maybe she can save up and go back to school ) but the downside was that I had to spend over half an hour evening them out at home. I don't know if I was given this type of service because I don't look like I have money, (heavily tattooed and this place is off of Mesa) or if this "esthetician" was having a bad day, or if she really can't do her job, but I've already given them my business more times than I can count. I do know that I should have just waited. Color Nails is only a couple dollars more, you get the moisturizer before and after the waxing, they trim them for you, and your eyebrows don't come out looking like you got them done in a back alley at midnight. This wasn't my first visit but, it may be my last...I do not appreciate this kind of deceptive practice. I give this place 5 stars!!! I work on a computer all day and I do alot of typing. Most of the places I go to I leave and end up chipping a nail almost within the first 5 hrs of leaving but thats not the case with Lee!! My nails last me a good 2wks. He is real good at making my tips thick so that I dont chip a nail when I open the car door or unbotton my pants because I hate having to go back to the salon. This is a good, clean, simple nail salon. Pretty standard pricing for a strip mall, walk-in type place ($25 for a pedicure in the spa chair). They were professional and efficient. Not overly fabulous, but they got the job done and the salon is clean and well run. You can call ahead of time to make an appointment if you want.
