I had a very disappointing experience. From the moment I walked in, I felt unwelcome. Instead of asking about my alterations or taking a look at my items, I was immediately questioned about what I wanted as if I wasn't at a tailoring shop. I was told they couldn't do any of my alterations before I even had the chance to show everything I brought. The interaction left me feeling uncomfortable and uneasy, and I ended up leaving without discussing all of my items. It was my first time using Best Seasons, I decided to try it based on a recommendation from a friend and on good Yelp reviews. I was not disappointed! I brought a dress and a pair of shorts on a Monday and asked if I could pick up the dress on Friday or Saturday morning. I heard turnaround was fast so I did not think it would have been a problem. She said okay, but it was going to be an extra $15, which I didn't expect but went with it because I had wanted to wear it that Saturday. In retrospect, it seems like she would have had them finished by then anyway and I could have saved the $15. Either way the prices are very reasonable! They did a great job hemming both the dress and the shorts, I had it measured where I wanted it hemmed, so I didn't need to try it on. However, there was a button in the way so she texted me to ask if I had wanted it shorter or longer to go around the button, I had asked for it shorter and if she could keep the extra fabric in the hem. She had said yes but that would also be an extra $15.... at that point I was not paying $45 for a simple hem, so I did not keep the extra fabric. Both the shorts and dress were ready by Thursday and I thought they did a great job! read more

It's a small cozy place right on the corner of Chinatown on 10th street run by an older Asian couple (with two adorable cats) who speak both English and Cantonese. This is the second time they've tailored my clothes incorrectly. The first time I wanted my size M button up shirts to a small. The shirts came out great except the length was not even! This time, he hemmed one of my pants way shorter than the other. They said they'll fix it for no charge. I must be an idiot to let them fix it when you clearly ruined my pants. How CAN someone hem TWO pants and make one way shorter than the other. The pants is a lightweight material and where would you get the same material to fix this. Also, I want to know how would you fix this?! They had the nerve to check the receipt if I requested for one pant hemmed shorter for my imaginary midget twin brother. Now why in the world would I asked for pants hemmed shorter than the other!!!!?? They said they won't charge me for the spectacular job they've done (obviously sarcasm). Well, my pants was brand new when I brought it in to get altered so shouldn't they had paid for my pants instead! The lady had the audacity to ask me "you come back?". Oh yes, I'll definitely come back to get my clothes messed up. I should've learned my lesson the first time when they made my shirts uneven. Oh yea, I was telling my cousin what had happen. What a surprise, he said they made all 4 of his pants shorter than he requested. When I went to pick up my uneven shirts up the first time, the man that gave me my shirts smelled like booze. I should've known better when it was uneven and him smelling like booze. But, the day was almost over so I figured maybe he had a beer just before shop closes (about 2 hours before they close is when I picked up my shirts). This update is way overdue, when I began coming to Best Seasons it was almost exclusively for jeans hemming and denim repair. Since then I've evolved into blazers and then into fully tailored suits. To take it a step further, when I was married this past October I opted for suits over the racket of tux rental and there was no doubt where I was taking it. The fit after they were finished with it was remarkable. My jacket size is a 41 however that's not a very common size so I almost exclusively buy 42s. What this mean is that in order to truly make a custom fit the tailor must deconstruct the entire jacket, make the alterations and then put it back together. This removes the slack you see in the shoulders of some men's suits. Its gotten to the point where I can bring a new suit in, try it on and Stephen and his wife will more or less tell me how it needs to be done, and that's how it should be, I'm not an expert. Besides hemming some pants shorter than others I've given them full control and have never once been disappointed. One case in particular really embodies these guys, last winter my buddy gave me his Hugo Boss trench coat he no longer wore. It was beautiful but it was mammoth on me. I took it here and after inspecting it they said they definitely could fit it to me but the cost would be really high and told me I'd be better off buying a new one. They knew I was willing to pay the higher price but made a recommendation that was in my best interest and that's rare these days. To date I've sent 10 or more friends and family here for alterations. read more

The first time I went there a few years ago, I envisioned paying 10, 15 or even 20 bucks, nope, $3.00. My favorite tailor and his cats live here. He is a talent who works quickly at a fair price. Don't lose your receipt or there is a penalty cost. Fees for hemming pants are about $10-12. For hemming with tapering, maybe $15-20. Shirt sleeves and tapering probably around the same. Turnaround time about 3-5 days, though you could probably ask nicely to have things expedited and pay a bit extra. Honestly, the quality can be seen in his stitch replication. You can compare this to the work performed at other advertised $5 hemmings, there is no question of the degree of skill he puts into his work. Enjoy! read more

I brought two dresses for alterations, and not only were they completed promptly, but the quality of work matched the stitching on the dresses very well. One of the dresses was too long, and I asked them to save a portion so I could use as a headband, and they were able to stitch it together so that it looked seamless and intentional. Do you wish there was a tailor That is pretty reasonably priced Well I found you one! I don't think I've ever been able to buy a pair of pants that was actually the right length for me. They're always too long, but most of the time, I buy jeans that are too cheap for me to justify taking them to the tailor. Well, I recently bought a pair of jeans to which I'd like to preserve the integrity of the bottom hem, and since I'm a complete useless person when it comes to sewing things myself, I set out on a trek. I happened across Best Seasons mostly because it's only a block away from my apartment, and I must say, I was pretty lucky. The moment you walk in, you see pants, shirts, tags, and bags lining every nook and cranny of the store, in haphazard yet seemingly organized piles. A happy, older gentleman, with a measuring tape around his neck, spectacles atop his crown, peers over his work, apparently entertaining some friends while he works away. Hemming my pants were $7 each. Average cost of hemming pants apparently is $8-$12. Score. I spoke Mandarin, but he speaks Cantonese, so that was a failed experiment at communication. However, his English is perfectly fine. He asks when I need them by, so I assume he needs a week or something, after taking a glance of all the articles of clothing he has lying around. I tell him I'm in no hurry, and he tells me to come back the following day. He must have elves helping him! In any case, he did a great job, and for $7! I'll definitely be coming back. read more

Amazing. No need to worry anymore about how I'm going to fix the holes in coat pockets, shorten a pair of jeans, or replace a hidden zipper. I am so excited to have a go-to tailor! I needed the straps taken up on a make-shift bridemaids dress (off the rack) in a matter of about a week. This required removing some flower embellishments from one of the straps and reattaching those cool little stringed snaps that hold your bra straps in place, along with whatever shortening lined fabric usually requires. They measured me quickly and said no problem when I told them my deadline. I came back as scheduled and the dress fit perfectly. They even saved the extra flower pieces and gave them to me in a little envelope, just in case I wanted them for something else. Best part? IT WAS $12. It almost feels like I got away with petty theft. That was back in the fall, and since then I've been collecting a small pile of clothes that need repairs or shortening so I can soon return to this fine establishment and recreate my joy over the fantastic quality of work and teeny tiny prices. read more

Definitely 5 stars, but also definitely a relative five stars. The husband and wife combo here charges significantly less for tailoring than other places doing comparable work. I've been here at least ten times for several different items. They do tend to err towards more traditional and conservative fits, but so long as you explicitly ask for slimmer fits, they'll execute perfectly. Something that stood out to me in particular was that when hemming the sleeves of my blazer, they took the effort to move the elbow slant upwards, resulting in a much better fit. That said, if you're looking to be waited on with a glass of whiskey while a man in a perfectly fitted suit measures your rise, then look elsewhere. read more

My good friend who's a former costume maker always tells me, "If you need something altered, go to Chinatown. Tiny Chinese women can work miracles with their tiny Chinese fingers." It isn't a stereotype if it's always true. My boyfriend has been wearing jeans that are 2 inches too long for weeks; I finally persuaded him to go get them shortened. The tailor was able to make the adjustments by eyeball-ing and estimating the height of my boyfriend; he didn't make my boyfriend try the pants on, in order to take the measurement. In the previous weeks, the pants had been dragging so low that the bottoms had torn, so keeping the original hem was not an option. The store itself doesn't have much to look at, but they get the job done. They are quite inexpensive. Compared to the $10-15 that I usually pay to hem my jeans, they only charged us $6.50. We didn't need the pants until the following day, but the tailor could've completed the job within the same day. read more

I went back to Best Seasons after having a good experience taking my first bridesmaid dress there. This second dress only needed to be hemmed, so I figured that it wouldn't cost much and it wouldn't be hard to mess up. Wrong on both accounts. It was $80 to get 2.5 inches taken off the dress (it had 3 layers), and the seam was very uneven. (Side note: Why was it more expensive to hem my second dress than it was to take in the sides of my first dress? Isn't the latter a more difficult process?) When I tried the dress on before I paid and left the shop, it looked good to me. I stood on my tippy toes but I couldn't stand tall enough to simulate the heels I'd be wearing with it. I got home and tried it on with my heels and the dress was shorter on the left side and shorter in the back. I was panicking because I didn't want to look like a mess in my friend's wedding photos. It was very noticeable. With only two days until the wedding I didn't know what to do. I contemplated contacting the shop but the dinner rehearsal was the next day so there was no time to have them fix it. Instead I had to go out and purchase a new pair of shorter heels that hid the fact that it was so uneven. I probably should have brought in my heels for the final fitting and I probably should have contacted the shop once I got home, but that still doesn't excuse the poor craftsmanship this time around. read more

AMAZING!!! I took my Bill Levkoff bridesmaid dress to Best Season's Tailoring as the bridal store ordered the dress two sizes larger than needed. After striking out with multiple other tailors in the area with respect to price (quoted anywhere from $80-$300!), my sister found Best Season's on Yelp and I dropped in the next Friday to get a quote. I changed into the dress in the small back room (completely private) and stepped out for the fitting. She consulted me on the height of the shoes I'd be wearing (to understand if the hem needed adjustment) and if I wanted to wear a bra. Overall, it was decided she would take in two inches on each side of the bust and leave the hem untouched for a total of $65!! I was ecstatic and happy that I wouldn't be spending over $100 in alterations and immediately told my sister to stop in the following day for her fitting. The dress is a 3 layer chiffon dress with side boning in the bust, the alterations were not easy-peasy so to speak and required her to remove the side boning without compromising the integrity of the dress. I returned this past Saturday to try on the dress post-alterations and it fit like a glove!! I am extremely happy (as is my sister) with my dress and Best Season's alterations. This awesome tailor will be my go-to for any easy and difficult alterations needs I have in the future! read more

I have a hard time finding matching pants for suits since there's so much vanity sizing in the womens section. I wish that I thought of getting a tailor sooner because this guy is awesome! I had size zero pants that needed 7 inches removed from the waist, and with his mad alteration skills, it's impossible to see the changes. This place is great. Just because it is located in Chinatown is no reason anyone should worry. The tailor speaks great English and I had no problem communicating what I wanted. He works fast and on time. He prides himself on mimicking the original seams so you can be sure that you won't even be able to tell your item was altered. The shop is small and a little messy, but it's just clothes and cloth everywhere, which is a good indicator that he has a lot of business. There's a changing room in back that neat and clean. I have absolutely no complaints. Furthermore, they have been in business for 30 some years now, so highly experienced and well trusted. I had a dress taken in quite liberally and it fits perfectly now. I checked all the seams and I can't tell any work was done on it at all. At first the tailor didn't want to take it in as much as I did, but when I made it clear I wanted it smaller, he listened and did as I asked. The dress had two layers and was a simple sheath. Give this place lots of time to do their work and be wary of their tendency to make things too short. I was really disappointed by my short-lived experience here. This review is for mainly the customer service and price quoting. My price quote was way above what I had paid at another location for a bridesmaid dress alteration in my old Roxborough neighborhood. I was so bummed last time as my bill levkoff dress had costed $200 alone and alterations were a pricey $90 on top of that so I wanted to shop around for a more reasonable price for something I will only wear once. The wife was not happy about my short timeline request of 10 days (fair enough) but she told me to try on the dress and she would see what she could do. She measured me very quickly and quoted me at $120 for taking in the bust/waist and shortening the length by 2 inches (this simple 2 layer faux-chiffon dress costed $30 on Amazon, yes the bride-to-be is that savvy). They kept insisting that they had to do something special due to the inner hem and the elastic lining the inside bust but this dress was way simpler than my bill levkoff dress in my humble opinion. I discussed my price budget and she told me that I could think about it and explained to me that the prices were set as she is busy with lots of other orders to do before mine, and that she wouldn't be able to get to my order until tomorrow. So I offered to come back the next day after thinking about it but long story semi-short she was not happy about this. I ended up going "all the way" back to the place in Roxborough and they did a more thorough measurement of the alterations (assessing the single shoulder strap that the wife here hadn't done and only taking off an inch off the length as the dress was sitting too low) while charging me my same price ($90) from last year that will be done at the latest in FIVE days without hassle (they actually called and told me it is already done, two days!) Experiences like this make me really miss California where tailor shops are located every few miles and will do amazing quality work for $15 in less than a week.
