Books this place a couple of weeks before coming and had forgotten I'd booked it. Got the pop up that I had a booking here which added 2 hours of driving on a Monday night. When I tried to cancel it they wouldn't let me as it was already within the 24 hour window. My bad. I'm glad that we went as it ended up being a positive experience. It is in Custer which is a central area for the whole South Dakota experience. You're about 12 miles from jewel cave and about the same if not less from Crazy Horse. When we got there at 22:30, the place was absolutely full with only one parking left, in front of our room. Check in was fast and courteous, as were all the staff I met during the visit. There's a pool and spa which were unused by us. I was traveling with wife and two teens. I booked the one room suite with one King and two doubles. There was a microwave, Fridge and a TV in each room. There's a single bath with uncomplicated hot and cold shower controls; a major plus. Aircon was good, if a little whinny. Good furnishings which looks as if the place was modernized recently. Our room had a bath, which is a major plus for the missus. Where this place is great is with the breakfasts. Until 9am, it is inclusive with you stay. Boiled eggs, yogurt, muffins, bagels, juices, cereals, good coffee, waffles,pastries, sort of scrambled eggs and the best sausages outside of the U.K. Really. I asked for the supplier so I can get my own as I haven't found decent sausages in the US u to now. Family slept way past when they should've, which is a compliment to the beds and the noise levels. If I ever come this way again would definitely make this a base for travels in the area. read more

As a longtime Best Western Gold member with more than a decade of loyalty and dozens of stays, my experience at Best Western Buffalo Ridge Inn was extremely disappointing. I specifically reserved and confirmed a ground-floor ADA-accessible room with two beds because both my father and I are unable to carry luggage upstairs. On the day of arrival, after spending over an hour being bounced between the hotel and corporate customer service, I was informed that our reserved room had been given away. We were told our only option was an upstairs room requiring stairs, and that no refund would be provided. When we arrived, there were numerous unassigned rooms still available. The sole employee on duty insisted there were no remaining ground-floor rooms with two beds. However, another party in our group checked in after us and was immediately assigned exactly that type of room. Thankfully they switched rooms with us, though even that was met with resistance and attitude from the front desk. What bothered me most was not the mistake itself, but the complete lack of accountability, empathy, or apology. The only explanation offered was that the employee was "new." Accessibility accommodations are not optional conveniences--they are necessities for many travelers. After this experience, I no longer feel confident that Best Western Buffalo Ridge Inn takes the needs of guests with disabilities seriously. Unfortunately, after years of loyalty to the Best Western brand, I will be looking elsewhere for future stays. read more

My wife and I spent the night at the Buffalo Ridge Inn as we continued our trip west. The hotel is on the west end of Custer which is about a 30min drive from Mt Rushmore. The parking lot does fill up but we were able to find a spot close to our ground floor room. The room had a comfortable king size bed, a large flat screen TV with cable service and a wall mounted AC in the back above the sink. The AC was noisy but in a good way to drown out any outside noise. We enjoyed a good night's rest here. Our only complaint was the small number of towels in the room. I'm sure we could have asked for and received more but we didn't. read more

We only needed a hotel for essentially sleeping and this place suited us perfectly. Nothing too grand but it was clean and just what we needed for a quick overnight stay. The breakfast included a French toast with a strawberry marmalade that was tasty as well. We were very happy with our stay at this Best Western. Our room was very clean and the carpet and paint appeared fairly new. There were no mysterious stains on our carpet. The water pressure is good and the room was very quiet. The heat/AC worked fine and was fairly quiet. The breakfast offerings are the usual eggs, sausage, cereal, breads etc that you find at most motels. There is no elevator and the rooms open to the outside but there appears to be plenty of main floor lodging. The staff was friendly and cheerful. The reason for 4 stars is that there was a noticeable stale smell when you first walk in the room that one got used to pretty quickly. Might be unavoidable. read more

My wife and I stayed at this place. Not bad. BUT, when I made reservations I wanted to use my points. Everything was a go. When I went to check in, the lady wanted my card for a deposit. When we checked out, the manager said I would be reimbursed. I never got my money back and the 40,000 points were gone too. I contacted this place, but to no avail. We won't be back. The motel is surrounded by trees and separated from the main street. Almost all of the rooms face out on the long parking area which does not have any plantings; therefore, the building has a stark feel. The grounds and buildings are in good condition. The lobby is functional and shares space with the breakfast area. There are no luggage carts available to move luggage. The rooms are distributed among two floors with stairs and no elevators to access the second floor. The room size is typical and is nicely appointed. The is a coffee maker, fridge and microwave in the room. The beds are comfortable. The room is short on electrical outlets so you may have to unplug some appliances and use the bathroom outlets. Breakfast is in the lobby, so it is a little on the small side but it works. Breakfast consists of egg, bacon or sausage, biscuit&gravy or pancake or french toast. They have fresh fruit in a basket. Cereal, toast, and yogurt are also available. No waffle maker is available, but they do serve french toast and pancakes on select days. read more

If you can stay at the new Best Western in Rapid City instead of this one, consider it. Picked up an orange at the breakfast and it was moldy. Figuring it might be a fluke I grabbed an apple and bit into it...rotten. A few other minor maintenance issues. Older hotel with a faux fireplace in the room and a pool. read more

This was the worst hotel I have stayed at. The owners of this place just bought some dumpy motel and slapped the Best Western logo on it. My room has a bunch of drain flys coming out of the sink. The bathroom was super gross with no fan so it just turns into a humid mess when you take a shower. Avoid this place if you can! read more

We stayed 2 nights here, both mornings the breakfast was was hot and plentiful. The indoor pool (no spa) was huge and the kids loved it. Close to Mount Rushmore (25 minute drive) and walking distance from the town. We'd stay here again! read more

Since I'm Diamond Status with Best Western, I always try to stay with this chain whenever I'm somewhere with a BW in town. Buffalo Ridge didn't disappoint. They upgraded me to a larger room for my family and gave a small welcome gift. The room is clean, new and with all the amenities such as fridge and microwave. Their breakfast is the bomb. I really enjoyed the meaty gravy and ate it like porridge. My kids enjoyed the pool until closing time which is 10pm. Hubby soaked his weary traveling bones in the jacuzzi. Hotel is pet friendly too. read more

Stayed at this facility for 3 nights and I wished I had chosen a different hotel. Their reservation page states that their $144.00 room can accommodate 4 people. That's not true. I was forced to get a 2nd room because the $144.00 room was so small and only slept 2 people. I stayed in the 2nd room. the shower and sink drains were slow to go down. The heating unit took forever to heat up the small room. There were no USB charging ports in the room. The out door trash cans were over flowing most of the time. The continental breakfast was good. The dining area was clean and the woman who served breakfast was polite and constantly cleaning. The girl who checked us in, Austyn, was very helpful even though it was obvious she was in severe pain due to a broken ear drum. She kept apologizing for not being able to hear us. When I asked her for a bigger room, so our family could stay together, she called her manager. The manager said, "That's all you get" even though the parking lot literally had only 6 cars in it. The place needs a few updates and a nicer manager. read more

It was okay. I was really surprised, though, about the lack of conditioner in the bathroom. There was a complimentary shampoo, but no conditioner -- a definite problem for someone with long hair to detangle. Also, it was super-annoying that there was no facial tissue in the bathroom, either. Though not the fault of the hotel, the continental-breakfast area was filled with extremely rude old people at 7:30 am on a recent Saturday in June. One old person cut in front of me to retrieve a lid when I was waiting in line for coffee. A second old person walked up to me from behind as I was filling my mug with coffee and exclaimed to my backside, "I NEED SOME SUGAR!" (Hey, yo, why don't you wait in line like the rest of us?) A third old person, in front of me, rudely said to a girl who had come back for something she'd forgotten when she was in line: "You know, you're supposed to remember what you want when you're in line the first time." We didn't feel like sticking around with all the old bitties any longer than absolutely necessary (not that we'd have found any seating if we wanted to), so we actually ate our breakfast off the trunk of our car, while standing outside. read more

Tried to make reservation night before Arrival. man at desk kept hanging up on me. Needed room they had openings so booked on my phone instead. Checked in late asked front desk why he hung up on me he said it happens when I get busy. Room clean small bathroom (traveling with two teenagers) not impressed with hotel but fit the need. The WiFi is spotty and slow! We reserved a double queen pet room for 3 and confirmed with the hotel a few days before our arrival. We ended up with a king that was not a pet room. When we tried to change the room, we were told they were sold out and we were told we should have booked a double queen pet room. Duh! Why didn't they honor our booking? I happened to look at my reservation request after we left- it was still for 2 queens- 3 people- 2 dogs. I'm still wondering how a front desk employee could have changed our guaranteed reservation. The room is very small. The staff has to move to chairs outside the room to fit the rollaway bed into the room. The rollaway kept collapsing! Our son slept on the mattress on the floor. The ac wall unit is loud and might cover sounds from outside the room. Towels are thin and small. The bed was not comfortable at all. Most of the room exit to the outside. There is a section of inside rooms. The floor/ceiling is not concrete so heavy foot steps are heard. I won't stay at the motel again. It's not a hotel. read more

This place sucks. When we checked in, I noticed little bugs in the shower. Then the toilet clogged, then overflowed. I kept contacting front desk by phone and in person because they often didn't answer the phone -and they kept leading me on making me think they were sending someone to fix it and they never did. Jerks. They should have just told me that no one was coming to fix it. My daughter got sick and had to throw up in the sink. It kind of ruins your whole day when you can't use the toilet in the morning. There was no toilet in the lobby either - which I had to walk across the parking lot in the snow to get to. People that work there aren't very nice and have heavy accents making them difficult to understand. I paid to use the washer and dryer in the laundry room and the dryer didn't work properly - also a major suck. read more

We booked the room from another best western hotel in Cody WY. We were supposed to have a ground floor room with a rollaway. When they finally brought the rollaway, there wasn't much place to put it. The rollaway had 3 layers of dirty sheets and blankets on it. At least they brought clean linens to put on it, oh wait, the blanket was wet. There was trash in the room, including a water bottle between the beds. When we asked to speak to the manager, he was in a meeting and would call when the meeting was over. He never called. As a best western regular, I know this is not normal, but I am quite disappointed anyway. read more

I found a good rate on Priceline so I called the hotel to see if they could match the rate or offer me a lower rate. When I told the clerk about the better offer online, he told me to reserve it online. We arrived at 10 pm that night and I was told by the same clerk that I didn't have a reservation, but he would sell me a room for a higher price. I argued with him and he backed down fast when I showed him my itinerary from Priceline. He gave me the Priceline rate. The room was clean and nice, but the bathroom fan was broken. Breakfast was okay, but limited seating. FYI If you arrive in Custer after 9 pm, all the places to eat are closed. read more

This is the best of all the best westerns i have stayed. two things the public should know about this best western, for one it is seasonal as in they close in October and open in the spring. Second is that when the gps in your car takes you to the hotel it will not be there as it move recently to the far end of town to right on the main street and keep going til you to get to a restaurant named Captains. Beware of the stairs at the top three and top of the far stairs in the corner there is repair needed there its rough but mostly its crooked enough to make you want to fall backward. This is a building they just moved into and are going to fix a few things in time. But over all the staff made us feel like family and are just the sweetest more caring people. They have a simple breakfast but no waffle maker, but love the over all feel and the view and all and at the far end of town its quiet. just a wonderful stay of two days. We would have stayed another night just the weather was foggy so mt rushmore and crazyhorse memorial were clouded over though we did see crazy horse and i took pictures from the parking lot with my telephoto lense but once we came out of the museum/memorial the scupulture on the hill they are still working on was clouded over. The hotel is in the center of attractions namely Mt Rushmore, Crazyhorse Memorial ( a must see the scupture and the museum is really big, wind caves, another cave. The town however is scarces in eating places. There is a subway of all else fails. most of the restaurants close very early. The one we ate Buglin' Bull Restaurant and Sports Bar (see review). i noticed in the reviews that one lady said that that she got hung up on the phone when she tried to make a reservations ahead of time. Next time try this number Toll Free Reservations (US & Canada Only) 1(800) 780-7234 We tried the hotel also to book ahead as there were only a few rooms left as they are remodeling. So we tried the best western general reservation line and got a reservation. They had just opened at this location so were still organizing things and had not yet hired in enough people in housekeeping and all. When they are closed they plan to fix things and get all the rooms up and running. But i abolutely love this hotel its the staff who make this a great place. read more

We booked on booking.com three months before our visit to plan our trip so there was no stress when arriving. We showed up with the confirmation in hand including reservation number ect. We got to the desk and the gentleman said he doesn't have our reservation and no rooms with what we needed available. We called Booking.com right there on the spot and they said they are looking at the reservation in the computer and they do have our room. We walk back to the and the guy asks if there could be another name it is under. The confirmation had the name right on it and he continued to swear he had no reservation. We called booking.com back and they tried to call the desk for us and by then it was busy with other drama (people who had other rooms they couldn't find) so they didn't answer the phone calls. We told the guy we want to be sure we would not be charged and he said we wouldn't because he didn't even have any record of us. We left and went across the street to Holiday Inn and SO thankful we did.. Amazing customer service and great room! The next day we receive an email from Best Western thanking us for our stay. We called Booking.com again wanting a refund on our credit card because we were possibly charged and they tried calling the hotel again. They answered the phone this time and said they couldn't get into the system right then to check. We are now having to dispute on our credit card or send the bill to Booking.com to take care of this when we return home. SMH done with this place. Good luck if you try to stay here read more

Was not pleased at all with the room!! Booked a non smoking room an when we opened are door it smelt just horrible like smoke!! Also the beds which I think were supposed to be queens were full size..and an old washcloth that was I imagine from the last person that had this room hung on the shower curtain rod..all and all not a good experience for us!! read more

This motel is serviceable, clean, and has reasonable rates. Rooms are quite small, but in good shape. The complimentary breakfast is decent for carb-based foods, but the eggs were pretty gross. The pool is small and smells strongly of chlorine, and the hot tub is only lukewarm (and oddly foamy). Good location for Crazy Horse, reasonably close to Mt. Rushmore, Black Hills. read more
