I stayed here a few times because it's pretty much the only hotel in the area. The price is reasonable but the rooms themselves are not good. Starting with the uncomfortable bed which you can feel the springs on the mattress. As far as housekeeping is concerned, it is not done regularly like most hotels. You have to request it the day before. Even when you request it, they don't come. We had to request clean towels at the front desk because they never came to our room. Never tried their breakfast as this place doesn't look clean enough for me to eat whatever they had. To top it off, I totally understand marijuana is legal but I shouldn't have to smell it when I'm walking towards my room. This place looks like a shelter than a hotel. Do extensive research if you're visiting your college kid b4 booking here because this place is just not good. read more

"Best Western we care"! About what exactly? Cleanliness? NO False advertisements? YES! Charging a ridiculous amount for what you get!? Also YES. The only thing positive is they don't have bed bugs! The pictures shown were all left over after housekeeping supposedly cleaned the room before we arrived. Mold doesn't form over night! The rooms are filthy! The hot tub has been closed for years, despite it being listed on their amenities. We come out here often to see family, after continued filthy rooms at all the hotels in the area which mind you are owned by the same family so they are all the same! We have decided to stay in Buffalo NY or Erie PA and drive the hour in! It suck but at least you will have a decent stay and won't be staying in squalor! Shame on the owners and the staff for letting the only hotels in this town look like this! Mind you the owner has pulled up in a Lamborghini to fill vending machines! So money isn't an issue! This place is a pure rip off. Avoid at all costs. This is the last place in the world you would want to stay. The beds are not comfortable at all I never have back problems but woke up in pain. Upon entering the hotel it had a no smoking policy. When entering our rooms both rooms had a smell of marijuana and the halls smelt like it to. Housekeeping doesn't check the dressers because we open the dresser within the room and they had a random hoodie in the dresser from the previous guest and two of the lamps did not work. read more

It's comfortable and convenient to the thruway. They provide breakfast in the morning. It is mainly continental but also bacon and a waffle maker - better than the typical. Has a nice secluded parking area with no street noise. Overall it is a little dated - but works. Our room was clean - only issue was that the bathtub had some gouges in it near the drain. I found it to be very expensive for what you get. Dunkirk/Fredonia generally isn't a big tourist attraction (Dunkirk's heyday was 100 years ago) - albeit a nice, scenic stop - I suspect pricing is because you are right off the thruway. Something has gone seriously wrong with this place. We used to stay here twice a year on our annual vacation. This year we reserved a specific room on the first floor for our aged dog. We specifically reserved a first floor room a month in advance but after checking in they told us we were on the second floor (no elevator). When we complained the front desk woman stared off into space as if we were no longer there. Incredible. In the past we've ignored the loud neighbors, dingy towels and rooms not ready even as late as 5PM because the location works so well for us. Now on a Saturday night we are in a second floor room without our old dog and the kicker is the TV doesn't work. This is will be the last time we stay at this expensive, poorly run, dump. read more

Came here recently on our way to drop our daughter off to school and needed a break at night. The town itself is a stop on the highway. Very convenient. Pros: - great price. - decent lobby. - provides breakfast in the morning. Mainly continental but also pre made omelette and bacon. Has a waffle maker as well. - nice secluded parking area. No street noise. Cons: - no in house restaurant or bar. Not even for beer or wine. Had to go to tops to get beer. - the hot water in the shower was annoyingly lukewarm. - the room registered 88 degrees when we walked in around 10:30P. And it took a long time for the temperature to drop to reasonable levels. - I would have probably given in 3 stars but my wife felt that the room was not very clean, especially the sheets and towels seemed worn out. read more

My kids and I stayed here for two nights and it was simple and reliable. A standard Best Western with friendly staff (with the exception of Lane-- I called the hotel before arriving with some questions and he was condescending and rude- almost canceled the reservation due to this) and a swimming pool and hot tub off the lobby. $225.00 a night for a (single) room in my dearly beloved, but admittedly no more than possibly "1.5 horse" former Alma Mater's home town???? NO!!!!! There's nothing wrong with this place... It's clean, comfortable and convenient to the thruway, but not a snowball's chance this side of Hades that it's worth even half that much for a night here!! SOMEONE who shall remain nameless (ahhhh, the family ties that bind, and at times, STRANGLE...!!) felt that the fancy PLUS after the name of this place must have meant that we were destined for a night in Western NY's version of the Taj Majal, or maybe Fredonia Ritz, but this place is NOTHING more than a pleasant, boringly AVERAGE, cookie cutter side of the highway place to sleep for the night. I cannot believe that they have the COJONES to price this place that high (and that I was suckered into going along for the RIDE!!) Grrrrrrrrrrr!!! I'm going to say a few good things about this place, which may confuse people on why I'm giving it one star. Well, I'm giving it one star because it is completely unacceptable to have construction going on above the room you have sold for the day. Especially, if you never informed the customer before hand. We woke up and everything was fine, but around 9:15am an annoying buzzing sound started. I called the front desk and asked if the construction can be held off for another hour and half until we left (which would be before checkout) and I was told that it could not happen because the workers are under contract. I asked to speak to a manager and there was not one working at the time. So my mother and I (whom I'm on a road trip with for her 60th bday, which is today), are left with starting off the day with buzzing that can't even be drowned out by the tv. On a last minute decision to stay in Dunkirk, I kayak'ed and for some reason decided to stay here when there were better options. I stayed at the Comfort Inn last time and it was cheaper and newer. The address is somewhat screwed up depending on what you use for navigation. I used my iPhone to guide me here when my Garmin lead down the road despite the big Best Western sign. I was thinking since I booked a Best Western Plus room and my Garmin was taking me elsewhere, that there would be a more upscale place. The hotel itself is pretty old but it's been revamped from what I could tell. When I went to my room, the door was wide open with the lights off. Not sure if that's normal but I've never experienced anything like that before. On the bed, that was made, my pillows were just thrown there. It's almost like someone was still tidying it up. I noticed by the front door that there was some red stain on the carpet. I'm guessing someone partied too hard. The room is nice and the bathroom is enormous! Something I never experienced before was a "fresh" remote was left on on the dresser. It was packaged as such. Interesting. They offered a hot breakfast in the morning which I took advantage of. Basic school food items as I opted for a few sausages and the omelet(not sure if I want to even call it that). If I was to stay in Dunkirk again, I'd probably pick somewhere else. Our toilet overflowed the first time it was flushed on a Saturday morning. The front desk was informed of this and promised that housekeeping would attend to it. When we returned 12 hours later the room had received no service, and the toilet water, dirty towels and fecal material were still on the floor. We called the front desk again and were told that no manager was available on a Saturday night and that nothing could be done until Monday, when a service would be scheduled. After further protest the desk clerk said that she would bring a plunger but did not do so. As of our departure Sunday at noon, the toilet was still overflowed and the water, dirty towels and fecal material were still on the floor after 48 hours. Needing a bathroom on Saturday night, we went to the public facility next to the pool but that toilet was blocked and overflowed too. When contacted on Monday the manager refused to make any adjustment in price, as there were no entries in the maintenance log and "you choose to stay there despite this". The place has a long string of poor reviews for filth and maintenance issues, and this has been reported to Best Western and the Chautauqua County Health Department, read more

The worst bed I've ever slept in, in all my travels. And this includes 3rd world countries and camping. The floor would have been better except it was filthy. Hallway carpets, dirty. No elevator--didn't bother me but others might. Cleaning person in the lobby cussing up a storm, telling personal tales to another worker. We have been on the road for a while and needed rest we walked into the room and it had a really bad odor (smelled like armpits) I was considering just sleeping in the car, all we could hear where the cars going by and the bathroom was terrible there where stains on the wall and everything, I felt very dirty while staying here. Great Hotel we have nothing bad to say. Rooms and common areas clean and attractive. All staff was exceptional. Pool area was small but perfect for our family, the 24 hour food and drink bar was great. We were attempting to drive home from Ohio when we hit severe thunderstorms. We quickly needed a pet friendly hotel to stay at and our closest exit was the one for Dunkirk New York. It was 2am and there only seemed to be two pet friendly hotels, best western and comfort inn. Best western was cheaper ($89) so best western was the choice. Their pet fee was $10. The young man at the desk was very nice and welcoming. He let us look at a few rooms before deciding on one. After having a traumatizing experience at a comfort inn that stunk like cigarettes and perfume, it was a breath of fresh air that the rooms did not smell of anything! The room was very clean and the hotel was cute. Parking was easy to find even though we checked in very late. The best news we got was breakfast was served until 10am even on weekdays. The next morning I got to enjoy their breakfast. It wasn't the best hotel breakfast but I loved their waffles. The breakfast included packaged crumb cakes, do it yourself waffles in original and spice flavors, bananas, apples, eggs, yogurt, cereal, and my favorite item: blueberry compote to put on the waffles. My only issue with this hotel was the air in the room. We blasted the air conditioning all night but it did not bring the temperature down under 74 degrees. If this wasn't a problem I would've rated them 5 stars. read more

When it comes to places like this, I really just need a clean room for the night. Unfortunately, the carpets in this place have not been replaced since the disco era and the amount of dust and allergens was alarming. My dad has asthma and ended up spending the night in the car because his allergies went haywire. In the morning we attempted to eat the complimentary "breakfast", but found it pretty unpalatable - which is hard, considering all we had was a coffee and a bagel. The orange juice was more like orange liquid and every pastry was stale. We told the front desk about the dust problem and he huffily replied that we "WELL, SHOULD have asked for another room!" Because the other rooms are apparently cleaner and he new carpets or something? Yeah... Don't stay here. Of course the two front desk ladies never mentioned there was construction work planned overnight. Christmas pm 2017 Snowstorm.We were driving north on route 90 from PA. Had planned to get off an earlier exit and go East, but it was snowing so hard we couldn't see where the exit was. Followed the rear lights of a truck many miles of "whiteout" going 20 mph and finally called and got a room. A shout out to the woman behind the counter. It looked like she was alone handling the blizzard travelers with much kindness, patience and professionalism. Please give her a raise and a bonus! We had to call her more than once to get directions to the hotel driveway! We couldn't see any streets! Glad for the breakfast too! read more

My wife and I were very disappointed with our stay on this trip as our room had a bad odor and the night manager said he'd make a note for the morning and of course he didn't even though he came into the room and said the smell was unacceptable. I know it's move in weekend for the college but to double the room rate for a room that smelled, had a lot of broken floor tile in the bathroom and the carpets in the hallways were disgusting is beyond ridiculous. After our complaint to the manager on the morning his resolution was a $30 refund. Done with this hotel as we will not use them again. read more

Has a good parking lot for those travelling rte 90 and towing a car or trailer. Room was clean and the gal at the front desk was friendly...although I had to ask for the AAA discount instead of being offered like I am at many other Best Westerns. The only strike was the staff didn't know where one of the restaurants was that advertised in the guest service directory. Applebees is within walking distance for those who are hungry. read more

I called from the road, and got the room. The front desk person was very friendly, although slow when I checked in. There was a local (?) hanging out "chatting" and I had to wait to check in. It was after 13 hours on the road, so I was not too keen on this. The parking lot was well lite and roomy. I had to ask which door I could access from the lot and she told me the front was the closest, that was not the case, so I wonder if she actually knows the hotel. The egg patty at the breakfast bar looked so weird I did not even try it, and the sausages looked like those frozen just zap them kind. I skipped the free breakfast which was ok, because I was heading home, but had this been the offering when I had another long day ahead I would not have been happy. They charge for your animal, $10/night. This place was cheaper than the Comfort Inn across the street. read more

On a severe stormy night driving back home I realized that its extremely foolish to be driving in such a thunderstorm. I called Best Western and a very cheerful young man said he could accommodate us. Before going there I went across the street to comfort inn since I have reward points with them and this unkept woman very rudely said it would be $115 a night even with my AAA card. So I went along with my first idea of staying at Best Western. The young man behind the counter was extremely friendly even though it was 3am. He took us to see the room before we took it. The rooms were very spacious and the shower wonderful. The best part was that breakfast was offered till 10 am even though it was a weekday. My only complaint here was that there was no elevator and I don't like to ever stay on the first floor. But the young man brought up all our stuff and was very helpful. read more

Stayed here for 2 nights & overall was very pleased. The room was clean with plenty of room inside. Included a flat screen TV & refrigerator along with a continental breakfast in the morning at no charge (cereal, coffee, toast & waffles). Would have given this hotel 4 stars but had a concern regarding safety inside. Reason being when we came in the first night after dinner through a side door of the hotel where key access should have been required we found that the lock was not working & anyone could just have walked in. We could not have been happier with this hotel. We are on a trip from Washington State to Boston Massachusetts. We booked this room through Priceline at the last minute, it was just after midnight. Priceline had the date of the check-in for the following day since it was after midnight. When we got to the hotel and discovered the error I called Priceline, unfortunately they told me they were not able to help me fix the reservation. My husband and I were so tired at this point. The young woman at the front desk, named Michaela, was an angel! She went above and beyond to change our reservation and get us a room. The beds were comfortable, The rooms were exceptionally clean. We had a wonderful large shower. They serve an excellent continental breakfast. They have a wonderful pool and hot tub, unfortunately it was too late for us to use it. But we will definitely stay here again. The staff is so friendly and so helpful. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone read more

The receptionists were nice, but we were placed right next to the lobby. The lobby TV was on the other side of the bedroom wall and was extremely loud all night. The refrigerator in the room wasn't working correctly and came on loudly every ten minutes all night long. I went out at 2 am and the receptionist turned the TV down but couldn't help with the refrigerator noise. I didn't sleep at all but couldn't move my two (adult) kids to another room at that hour of the night. The next day the manager was EXTREMELY rude and accused me of never having been in a hotel before (huh? At 64, I'd been in more hotels than he could count), among other things. He wouldn't do a thing to make our stay better (such as offer a discount for my complete lack of sleep). Best Western corp offices gave me some points towards another stay, but I found out that I'd need 16,000 more points to make it work, so we got nothing for the horrible night's stay. I was very disappointed and would never, ever, ever, ever stay there again just because of that rude young manager who needs to go back to manager school. Service is gone, which is a shame. I hope people read this and decide to go elsewhere. Otherwise enjoy the paper thin walls and the nasty day manager. read more

What a dump. The room is dirty. Someone spilled something red and sticky on the bedside table and no one cleaned it up. The carpet is dirty. There isn't an elevator so if you're staying on the second floor, be prepared to haul your stuff up a long flight of stairs. There is no fitness center - not even a treadmill.
