The owners are very friendly and helpful, recommending a great casual, Italian restaurant in the area, Bark's Grill, where they make their own sauces and dressings. The Brick House adds all those little details that make your stay memorable; cookies in the dining room, holiday decorations, a game room, fridge, microwave, bottles of water, etc. My BF and I stayed in the Grape Room of this house that was built in the 1800s. The rooms are decorated in antiques and rich colors which I can really appreciate coming from stark white apartment city living. The room had a comfortable king-sized bed, an electric fireplace and private bath. I assume because it was the Grape Room, we also found a couple cans of grape juice in the room and a free mug to take if you choose to w the name of the B&B on it. The BF was a big fan of the soft towels. The fresh coffee was ready in the morning by 7 and breakfast by 8:30. You won't leave hungry with eggs, bacon, fruit, pastries, juice, and homemade pound cake. The best add-on to the stay is the opportunity to use the 2 infrared dry saunas. They provide white fluffy robes for their guests to wear in them. If you are stopping by the wineries in the area, 21 Brix is only about 4 miles down the road and their Cabernet is more than worth a stop.

A note to visitors: the shared refrigerator for guests is only a mini-fridge, so there isn't much storage space. We'd suggest planning ahead and bringing a cooler for any larger items you wanted to store - or calling ahead to see about options. Cons: Everything was outdated and in need of an upgrade: cracked stained ceiling, old carpet, window air conditioning unit that sounded like it was going to take off. The private bathroom is across hallway- not connected to room and the window in bathroom did not open nor did it have an exhaust fan. The dorm fridge provided was hardly balancing on an old chair, not safe or stable at all. Lastly their breakfast was okay at best. I've had better breakfast at hotel chains that offer continental breakfast. All that was offered was scrambled eggs, sausage and some fruit. No homemade pastries,pancakes,potatoes, quiche or typical "Bed and Breakfast" food. No jelly or jam and the 4 slice toaster didn't cut it when you had a room full of people waiting to make toast. We were very disappointed, especially after reading the good reviews from others.

We ate at EBC and were able to walk around this very quaint little town, which is just about an hour and a halfs drive from Buffalo. I would definitely recommend staying at the Bemus Point lodge to anyone that asks. Adam and Kristi have a great lodge and are making improvements to it since they've bought it a few years ago. They offer boat rentals, kayak launches, a courtesy boat slip is also available. It is a diamond in the making.

I changed my mind after receiving a marketing email from them. W O W! It really had me shaking my head. When we stayed, we reported so many things broken and unusable in our unit it got to be a joke. Important things like faucets and hot water. We HAD to laugh because we were stuck and they were barely responsive. We were there for a family funeral and didn't want to pile onto our family during a hard time. Whoever we were dealing with was super annoyed we found hot water and a working bathroom sink faucet important. Cabinets and faucets were literally falling off in our hands. One thing would break and we'd head into another area and pop...a cabinet knob would fall off. It was something I had never experienced before nor have I again with an AirBnB! To top that fun off, I had called probably a month before to cut our visit short by one night because we were going to need to get to the city to help our daughter move into college her freshman year. When I found that they hadn't canceled that night and had charged us, I contacted them and the person I spoke to said we never had the phone conversation and because I didn't have an electronic record and just trusted their "agent" I was out of luck and they charged me for the night anyway. Beyond lame. The audacity of their sending out their "friendly" solicitation message after their treatment of us during our stay and non-responsiveness afterwards was outrageous. So tacky! If you stay here, keep good records. Hopefully, they've fixed the many problems since our stay and have amped up their customer service (a LOT). I responded to their solicitation email and said basically what was above. Of course, no response. I would find another place, frankly.

Great customer service from Wilma! She's very knowledgeable and helpful, which I appreciated. Breakfast is not served on site. They give you vouchers for breakfast/lunch at nearby restaurants. We went to one within walking distance (less than .5 miles). It was a great morning walk and we stopped by several of the antique stores on the way back to CL. We definitely plan to visit again. Westfield is a lovely town. There are nearby wineries to visit, and the Lucille Ball & Desi Arnaz museum is a short drive away (located in Jamestown).

This was our third stay at the Athenaeum, and we've now spent the last two years in Suite 8. We've…read morealready booked our return for 2027. Suite 8 has become our favorite room. It has its own private entrance and porch, and it's located right next to the Amphitheater. One of our favorite parts of the week is sitting on the porch in the evening and listening to the concerts without ever leaving the room. We still love the Athenaeum for its history, charm, and unbeatable location. Being able to purchase our Chautauqua gate passes through the hotel is another nice perk. They're printed and waiting for us when we check in, making arrival quick and easy. So why did I lower my rating from five stars to four? Housekeeping has changed noticeably since our first visit. During our week-long stay, the room was never actually cleaned. Towels were replaced and the trash was emptied, but the floors weren't cleaned, the bed linens weren't changed, and the room was never refreshed beyond the basics. We also ran into a maintenance issue. Although the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash dispensers in the shower were full, none of them worked. We ended up buying shampoo and conditioner from the Plaza store and relying on the bar soap provided by the hotel. Neither issue ruined our stay, and we'll absolutely be back. But for a hotel of this caliber, I expect housekeeping and basic room maintenance to be better than what we experienced this year.

Run down. The two…read morestars are for the location. If you're seeing a show here, you're about 20 feet from the hotel. Also, Chautauqua Institute is a lovely place. The room: peeling wallpaper, chipped paint, cracks in the floor and cracks in the ceiling, and floors so warped it's like a little skate park. The shower is small and dingy, also unlit. There's a light over the sink, but it's doesn't really reach the shower, especially with the shower curtain closed. The concert let out around 10:30, and we took a stroll around the grounds to skip rocks and look at constellations. When we got back to the hotel, bar closed. 11 on a Saturday night. Also no food to be had. Sunday morning continental breakfast was paltry at best. Even the coffee sucks, watery and tasteless. All this for the bargain price of about $400/night. For two of the crappiest double beds I've ever slept on. All that money is for the location.
